I have cable, and generally thing 'pop' onto the screen. If there is a slow load, it's usually the server at the other end that can't feed that data fast enough.

My primary concern is that it's going to consume a ton of bandwidth. Google will be prefetching pages from links that users simply mouseover. The user may never actually visit the page but we'll be sending the data over the wire to google's caching servers anyway.

FWIW, I've been using the software for over an hour and it hasn't sped up a thing for me. It keeps track of how much time it thinks it's saving. Mine still says "0.0 seconds saved" but I can see the prefetching service hitting the server hard.

Collecting this data will allow google to more accurately target ads to specific types of users based on the URLs they click and the content of those pages. They will be able to build statistical models of individual surfers from this data.

Some sites sometimes load slow, but i'am sure it's my computer, 400MHz, Recommended for Firefox is 500MHz or more.

In this case I wouldn't trust software that says it will accelerate your web experience. It sounds like it's a modified proxy server but I bet it's more like server-side spyware.

I'm joining the "google is evil" crowd and try to use them as little as possible now that they've decided that they won't do anything gun-related in searchs. It does sound like a wasted thing that's more than anything trying to gather information in a sneaky way.

Honestly what does Google produce? How does their product line compare to Microsoft? The internet is too global and too fickle to guarantee web traffic.

There will be a new "in" search engine (www.AskOatmeal.com Feeling lucky? Click on the random link generator called the Crumbler) later this year, another next, another after that.

I use Google for my searches but if that doesn't give me good results I try Yahoo. Between them I usually find what I want.

If I am looking for an image I use unfiltered image searches at AltaVista.

Note: a Google search using "guns are for killing people" and "national rifle association are lunatics" returned 3,900,000 and 22,900 results respectively.

google hasn't done anything right for a while- everything's perenially in beta, they killed dejanews after they bought it, the other heavyweights muted gmal's fanfare quickly by upping their storage without google's privacy violations, desktop search is junk, the toolbar doesn't offer much not built into firefox and ie's got an effective popup-blocker and the web-accelerator is getting tons of flak. they just shut the downloads down early after it caused problems and pissed off webmasters. aside from their archiving services, nothing new is any good and their engine itself is aging and askjeeves will have a new one out that's different, but a generation ahead of theirs coming out soon.

they're also going to deal with pressure to dumb-down their engine as google-hacking becomes more and more of a security and theft issue. they've got an awesome bread-and-butter, but they're trying to force things in other areas too much. i'm just not sure there's room for them to expand past being the standard for search engines unless they do something a lot better than what they've done recently.
