I imagine that some of you know a lot about the technical aspects of dvds so please help settle an argument for me. My friend says that its possible to copy from a dvd player on to a vhs tape. I say that it isn't. Which of us is right?

It can be done if you can work around the macrovision.

ramsey is right.

i have copied dvd to vhs several times with very good results. i use a 800MHz intel machine equipped with matrox MGA-400MAX graphics and a pioneer scsi dvd rom drive.
no problems so far, matrox output quality for tv is excellent.

cheers, waterproof

Assuming you have the proper equipment and computer processing power, there remain only two issues:
  • your right to copy (i.e., ownership of the material and its copyright), and
  • copy protection (e.g., MacroVision) incorporated into the original source.
For obvious legal reasons, bypassing copy protection methods and duplication of copyrighted materials are not discussed on this board.
