Is it more shallow to be turned on by looks than by intelligence, confidence, wealth, etc? Motivation for this question: I had this female friend(sic)who said she was most attracted to intelligence. Later she criticized me for placing some importance on looks. Looks are not the only thing of importance to me, but they are important. Honesty is very important as well. She said that she really wanted to be mentally stimulated. Is the desire to be mentally stimulated any better than the desire to be visually stimulated? | Endorphin Luminary 1185 Posts 3/00 | I can see the importance of confidence, but I don't see why looking for it is necessarily superior to the others. Close ties can be generated between confidence and looks and other things. First, good looks can be a representation of confidence. People sure of themselves will be more likely to work out. Plenty of insecure people will avoid going to the gym because they are insecure about how they look when working out. Are looks necessarily the best representation of confidence? No. But what is? People can be attracted to others because they appear confident, but only find out that they are insecure. How do we gauge confidence in the short run? By mere perceptions. Second, confidence can stem from good looks. Granted, there are insecure people that are good looking, but some confidence can come from good looks. If you have more people complimenting you more frequently, you should be more likely to be confident. In other words, the confidence stems from the good looks.
