This may be OT, but I received a DVD a few months ago that had the correct title and cover art on the DVD surface matching the title and some of the art work on the boxcover AND an entirely different video burned into the DVD. I contacted the retail distributor and he told me that happens every so often (wrong content burned on the DVD) and requests to the producer to correct it (do another production run using the correct content) are ignored. Of course my question to him at this point was what 'title' should I order so I can get a DVD that has the content that I originally wanted to view. Talk about lost footage! Naturally, he didn't have a clue and surprisingly (to me) he told me that the production company wouldn't even take back the mixed up DVDs.

what year is that movie from? I know mistakes happen. But we are very careful about our boxes. The only thing that was in question was a menus issue with Brand new Faces. That was fixed and yes it was a mistake on the art dept. end. The Positions Menu that Don Houston said was not in there, was in fact in there. To be compared to Leisure Time and say we are thieves was a bit over the line. Especially since the issue had nothing to do with us excluding talent in a movie that appeared in the box art. I do see every box cover and do see the scene breakdowns. I do make sure they mesh. As does 3 other people. That has never been are MO. I don't mind getting slammed for something we did, then we can fix it, I do mind getting slammed for something we didn't do, and being called a thief. That was just flat out wrong.
Pretty Girl was released in 2004. The pic of the back cover posted on ADE has only one image of Cherokee. She appears twice on the copy I hold in my hand so someone noticed, but I guess wasn't able to get her off the cover altogether.

Aha! I figured out the two versions so you can stop laughing BigBob :). It's not that someone removed one of the images. It's that there's two of Cherokee on the soft version and only one on the hard. It's never been revised. I never wrote I thought Vivid were thieves. That was someone else. And of course it's a mistake, HW. Just like BigBob's example is surely a mistake and something else is a mistake and this is a mistake and that is a mistake. All that adds up and leaves a very bad impression as far as professionalism goes. And is it less important somehow because it's not the contract star? That train of thought bothers me. The WHOLE package should matter. I buying the whole thing.
Except for those (perhaps like Savoy) who bought the DVD based on the pictures on the box cover? The stated cast list means nothing when you are showing performer's pictures on the cover. I deal with incomplete and/or incorrect cast lists, and confusing/inaccurate cover credits and pics, all day long. I'm willing to bet that, a majority of porn customers base their buying decisions on the pictures on the cover, and that most customers can NOT identify a large percentage of the performers solely by name. Indeed, it takes ADT posters, reviewers, database editors, etc. (i.e. dedicated porn people) to catch such mistakes in the first place. Mistake or not (and I believe it probably was), "seeing is believing" for most people.

Before the internet blew up, this use to annoy me to no end; but thanks to the 'net, I can kinda search around to see if what i'm buying is the real deal. What annoys me more these days, is alot of 70's and 80's porn that is being re-released on DVD, has scenes cut out. I understand cutting scenes because of the "Traci Lords factor", but some of them just have scenes cut for no reason.

I know you never wrote that, i did not say you did. I was referring to the other poster. I understand your point and agree with you. But in all fairness you are talking about a 6 year old movie, one of an easy 360 that were released between then and now. You and I both know that is not a practice Vivid does. So mistakes do happen, this is one of them. Also let's admit she is not listed in the credits. Why that picture is on there I do not know, but I will find out. I will ask the art dept, and I'm pretty sure that will say it was a mistake. An honest mistake.

I am having the gen. manager check that movie to make sure she is not in it. You are 100% right and thank God it is not something that usually happens. We will redo the boxcover at the expense of our Art Dept.
Oh, you don't need to go through all that. I've always believed it was a mistake. I even wrote it in my initial post. I was only offering up an example showing that talent not in the movie do pop up on your covers (or at least one). That's all.Yay! 'Boo' that ya'll gotta spend money, but 'yay' that you guys care to correct it. :)

Why do you take this so personally? We have every right to gripe about Vivid stuff... like bad boob jobs or that bad lighting like it's animated playboy (with all the editing to the pictures/film, washout, etc.), apparently lies on the marketing, etc. That's the nature of this forum and you're out of line making it personal and ignoring the point. Well, I appreciate your passion and loyalty but it doesn't change reality a bit. I know which companies I boycott due to covers that are not forthright, and vivid is on my list. I don't really care if you disagree or feel tantrumesque. I don't keep a log of my movies woody but if I find a companies stuff to be consistently crap either with boxcovers, content or otherwise, they pretty much get 86ed forever. I should really consider a database though, last year I think I bought one movie 3 frickin times by accident lol. Woody, I partially envy your job and I'm sure you're a cool guy in person, but I still don't respect your employer. BTW what's with the picture? Are you incognito or what's the deal with that?

No downside for you at all. Email me. That is an Apple store photo. If you ask anyone on this site I think you will find, that is not Vivids MO, never has been. Mistakes happen with everyone, but we are not in the deception business, if we were we would have long been gone.

Those scenes were cut in the 80s after Reagan went after Adam & Eve and VCX and VCA in a big way. People went to jail. It obviously sucks that they had to cut their videos but one can see why they did back then. What makes little sense is why they release the films today cut, perhaps they don't have the original uncut prints anymore?
Traci Lords was a pornstar from the 80's. It was discovered ("after the fact") that she was underage. In a nutshell, Tracy Lords porn = borderline illegal porn due to the confusion of what was made when, and if it was re-edited to remove her scenes and I think it is/was illegal in some countries due to those countries having different age requirements for porn. It's just one big mess. So a lot of Tracy Lords movies have been re-edited to remove her while leaving the rest of the movie intact. This is the "understandable" editing that TeganLovesSara refers to. Regarding the Reagan stuff, I haven't a clue what that's all about.

My 2 cents: I'm so used to 90% of my porn not being appropriately represented by its boxcover (most of my porn is old, and has some cheesy sexy shot of the main star, done in a way that bears no resemblance to the content/tone of the film). I'm also used to routine typos, movies advertised as features (on ADT no less) which are not features at all, etc etc. I've stopped caring. I'm simply appreciative if a good movie has been made, and that I can actually get a copy. My most annoying experience: I bought Stiff Competition, and watched nearly an hour of the movie before finally admitting that I was watching Stiff Competition 2. I notified the seller, and he got me another copy...which also had SC 2 inside. Turns out, all of the SC dvds from this dude's Caballero supplier has the wrong dvd. It sounded like all of the Caballero copies have the sequel inside. Nuts.
woody: you might be damaging vivid's reputation with offers of free dvds, like you're begging for a positive review. it might be standard practice, but you practice it much more than anyone else.

I am not begging for good reviews, just honest reviews. If you have ever read any of my posts, that is all i ask for. I have even specified that if you don't like it, please state that and why. I am very confident of the product, that is why i want to get it in the hands of people who have not seen it in a while. Especially those that say they don't like it. So thanks for your comments, but i think they are way off base. How can it damage Vivid by getting someone to watch a movie and give an honest review?
If a boxcover depicts a scene not present on the disc, that is false advertising. I wish somebody would sue one of these companies to make an example out of them. I stopped buying vivid stuff over 15 years ago. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. These companies have lost a customer for life. BTW-some of the T. Lords stuff is avaliable internationally (most of her stuff) on DVD.

BTW Traci Lords stuff internationally, if downloaded domestic, you are downloading child porn, which you most certainly will go to jail for. ^ I'll add Cry Wolf to Woody's list - if you're interested in a film that has a complex plot, good acting, and dynamic sex scenes, that is. If you don't like to think or be challenged, it might not be for you though. I think Cry Wolf is one of the best features made in the last five years or more.
Girls Eat Girl is one of the first dvds i bought years ago. i did not notice it's vivid until i played it again today. wow, did i buy some crap. it's labeled as 4 hours, which might be true with the trailers, but it's also large chunks of awful and boring ads between the scenes. Vivids are probably better now, since they can't be worse, but they are still years too late and they probably lost their g/g customers to GFF. now GFF is sliding downhill and losing customers to Abby Winters, Triangle, Sweetheart, and many sites. woody: asking for people's home addresses could be stalkerish. maybe vivid should start their own tubesite, so you can email passwords instead of dvds.
A company can get away with a misleading box cover once with me, but I'll never buy or rent their stuff again. In particular, I hate condoms--I never use them myself, and I don't want to see them in porn. I check box covers closely and only buy or rent dvds where the box cover does not depict the use of condoms. If, upon watching the dvd, however, I see that a guy is wearing a condom, I remove the dvd from the player at once, and I'll never be a customer of that company again.

We made all the commercials so you can skip thru them a while ago. Vivid stopped making 4 hours 3 years ago. Vivid features are doing very well,they have been getting 4 and 5 star reviews. It is never too late to improve a product, and when you do, the customers will read the reviews and come back, which they have. No one seems to think it is odd to give me their address if they want to review screeners, I do not get on a plane and visit them for holidays.

Are you talking about older films from say the 90's or even the 80's that were re-released? That may have been because of the 2257 rule, not sure though. I haven't bought anything older from Vivid in a while, but the last older films I got from them seemed totally intact from a time/scene standpoint. That is one of my issues with older content though.

Wow, hate, that is strong. You are talking about product that fell under 2257. I can assure you that any of our older titles are completely intact. Our new releases in the last year have received nothing but 4 and 5 star reviews. I would be glad to send you a couple new releases to see just how good the new Vivid stuff is. I certainly don't want you to hate us or have some resentment about Vivid. Just email me your shipping address.
As you can read in the threads, a lot of venom vivid experiences today is due to what was done years ago (2/5/10/15 years ago). Once you lose the trust of a consumer, it is very difficult to gain it back. I wish vivid all the best luck and hope the company produces world class porn. (I dont want screeners-but will probably take a look at what their producing by downloading a pirated copy and if I like what I see I'll buy) But please dont put those freaking company bugs/logos embedded into the video.
