The few blinks have happened to me once so far (been only a week since I have DSL).
Maybe someone else might have a better answer to this.

When this happens while I am gaming I experience it as lag. Simultaneous with this "lag out" the "LAN" labeled LED (light emitting diode) blinks out on my cable modem, which apparently means that a connection from my modem to the NIC in my computer can't be found (as if I had disconnected the cable running between them). This only happens sometimes, but sometimes when it does it happens for several minutes. Othertimes just a few blinks (cut outs) and it's solid again. Anybody know if this is normal? Do you have this happen with your cable modem connection at times? Is this a sign of a shoddy NIC or cable modem? I got high quality cable connecting them. i got a com21 doxport modem and a 3com NIC. | jamesn Senior Member Cambridge, MA 750 Posts 1/04 | Posted - Sep 30 2004 : 12:00AM and http://www.cbn.net.id/cbnweb/faq-3.asp?lang=en&fileid=81 for info on com21 modems. i'd pay particular attention to make sure that your signals are within the db ranges they should be via-the diagnostic page. there's not much info about that modem, 3com makes some of the best affordable networking products out there though. i'd get a motorola if you're in the market for a modem soon. there's always the chance it's your cat-5 needing replacement or that it's just stressful beyond what the connection is stable at. then there's always a chance some 14-year old in the ukraine is being sketchy, maybe try out etherreal and see what's really going on with your network if your isp won't freak. routers claiming stateful packet inspection under 300-dollars are useless without adding 2 hubs to either side of them, so don't assume that's going to get rid of nasty stuff.
