| conquistador Deactivated User Hellhamster. 2947 Posts 10/03 | I want you to try extracting each of the data files (.iwd). The data files are just large zipped archives. It is possible for there to be errors in the pak files that do not show up during the copy process, these will most likely present themselves when we unpack the data files. First you will need an archival extraction program (like winrar available at http://www.rarlab.com/) Launch the archival extraction program The exact option you are looking for will be different with each option but you are looking for an option that says "open" or "open archive" (you may need to look in the file menu for this) Select this option then browse to the location of the data files (default is c:\program files\activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\main) Select one of the data files Where you are selecting where to extract it to you should select an empty folder, you may want to create a temporary folder inside the game directory to extract to (depending on how much hard drive space you have free you may need to empty out this folder each time you unpack one of these files). Let it finish extracting the data file Repeat this process for each of the data files Let us know how you make out. |
| conquistador Deactivated User Hellhamster. 2947 Posts 10/03 | "Hi, Please download and install the beta drivers for your video card. http://www.nvidia.com/object/win169.21.html Turn the sound acceleration for your card down to basic. 1) Go to start -> run 2) Type dxdiag, hit ok 3) Go to the sound tab 4) Locate the hardware sound acceleration slider 5) Move this slider to the second notch from the left (it should say basic) 6) Hit exit If you continue to have problems, please generate and submit another directx diagnostic file with your next response. " The funny part is those nvidia beta drivers are they ones they told me to uninstall the first time I asked for help. I am so glad I don't have a job doing tech support, it must be infuriating. |

| conquistador Deactivated User Hellhamster. 2947 Posts 10/03 | The copy I have is not fried. I have proven that. It seems to just be one of those games that my computer dislikes. It is very rare but not totally unlikely. My computer hated FarCry. I have not tried the laTEST aCTIUVISION EMAIL FIX WHICH INVOLVES LOWERING SOUND ACCELERATION. The caps were an accident. Maybe it will work but for now I am mad and playing Crisis instead. The thing that pisses me off worst is that I *could* have pirated COD4. I bought it instead and I spent almost 60 bucks Canadian on a useless item. If anyone wants to buy Call of Duuty 4 from me me please do I will ship it to you. I want to trade you buying it for around 30 bucks canadian. or you coulkd be super nice and I will trade you Viva Pinata for PC for Call of Duty 4. |
| conquistador Deactivated User Hellhamster. 2947 Posts 10/03 | Especially my CPU was built by me, it has some.. odd foibles sometimes. No worries. ANd tell your boyfriend I would play some Team Fortress Classic 2 with him if he wants. Thanks for the note, I wish Computer stuff was less complicated. |

| conquistador Deactivated User Hellhamster. 2947 Posts 10/03 | If you can help now would be the time. This is going to be a huge message but it will also show you how useful Activision support has been for me. I paid 59.99 +14%tax Canadian for the collectors edition of their game. Here is our exchange. It starts out pretty helpful (read from the bottom-up) Then gets brain damaged and they forget I have even contacted them before. I spoke to them on the phone for approx 4 hours (it was not a collect call) and spent tons of time uninstalling and reinstalling and so on, you'll see if you take the time, I wouldn't blame you if you don't care though. And whatever advice you may be able to give me DO NOT TELL ME TO GET A CONSOLE. It will make me feel enraged. It is emailed to you because it has personal info in it, feel free to share it with your friend who works at the game company though, I don't mind if they know who I am. Thank you. |

| kukm4 Member so-cal 212 Posts 9/04 | Do you have Xfire Installed? checking google. Someone else on a diff forum suggested closing xfire or updating it. "Well, it was apparently Xfire that was doing it. Shut down Xfire and all is good. Just downloaded an update to Xfire, hopefully that fixes it." Worth a shot. Hope this fixes your prob. |
| conquistador Deactivated User Hellhamster. 2947 Posts 10/03 | I don't know if this could belong in the DVD trading forums but if you want to do a straight up trade for Call of Duty 4 Special Edition (with the book, it might be wonky to transfer the supposed special multiplayer vehicle). I will straight trade for a PC copy of ViVa Pinata as long as it has it's free month of online play intact. VP is a way cheaper game new then COD4 and cod 4 was barely used. I have all the diagnostic files to prove it. it just HATES my machine. I can't guarantee it won't HATE yours either but I have so much documented tech support files from Activision if nothing else you will be totally assured the dis contains all of the files and that it will install them if you have the required specs (look them up if you need to know them). Past that I can't tell you much.. I just want to trade for Viva Pinata and if you want to do that we can probably make it happen, just post here about it because my forum email is goofed. |

Im sorry activision is giving you such a hard time. Dont get me wrong, Im pro console but I am completely aware of that being just preference, you should be able to play PC if you want. I'll get back to you with any answers I may have tomorrow. I game is fucking outstanding so it really sucks to hear when someone cant play it ;) |
| conquistador Deactivated User Hellhamster. 2947 Posts 10/03 | I am going to go trade in my game using EB's return policy I can trade in an item for the same thing except a sealed version which I will then trade in for whatever it is worth and just end up taking a bit of a loss. My girlfriend wants Nintendo DS tetris and a few other DS things so if I can remember what they were she will be getting some gifts. Before you say anything I know a new patch was released for COD4. It did not help. The current thinking is that the mess-up has something to do with computers that are using onboard sound made by a company called RealTek. It might be a hardware thing or a specific driver thing. I tried everything. I am willing to accept the sound thing as a possible explanation but no amount of fussing with the sound card or the sound "acceleration" and starting the game resulted in any new progress. So, I am giving up. No doubt you understand how I feel. Interestingly, checking all over on all the forums I could find many other people are having the same problem and some have solved it through fussing with sound and some just can not solve it. There is all sorts of mysterious shit that could be causing my problem. They said that sometimes the game wouldn't work with CD emulation software-I say fuck you to that, it's my computer and I will have any software I please loaded. If it isn't related to your game it should not be an excuse for your game not to work. (I have a copy of a "Twilight" album mounted with Daemon tools right now). Sorry to rant and I know it's not anything even to do with you but this is the first time I have ever had such a shitty game buying experience. I am going back to the shop today but this shit makes me want to hoist up the ol' pirate flag and stop paying for broken shit. Thanks for listening. |

| conquistador Deactivated User Hellhamster. 2947 Posts 10/03 | You can, with relative ease, set up computer gaming on your television if you are able to plug in the relevant cables. You usually have DVI, VGA and S-Video standard. And there are all manner of dongle and converter. And as far as upgrades, of course you need more power, PC gaming is capable of being higher performance then console because of this ability. The ability to upgrade is not a hindrance. EDIT much later: also console users need to upgrade to stay with the times as well. (PS1,PS2,PS3,XBOX,XBOX360,Master System, Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, Dreamcast, and so on. These may be different consoles but they are also "upgrades") Edited by - conquistador on 12/24/2007 5:43:50 AM |
