sometimes they get so pissed! anyone else ever have that experience? guess they just want to be in "character" all the time outside of their personal life
In my case, they clearly have...real names used when we have met in person, hung out, talked on phone, and via email (things like MySpace and Facebook too)...so now I have two "real names" in my head :)

That's a little different. You didn't say that they specifically told YOU their real name or that you had hung out with them at their invitation. Whatever... females are entitled to be fickle. It's our reward for having to bleed every month. ;)

You think it's odd they want you to respect their public persona? Such boundaries are not unique to porn - try calling Pink or Axl Rose by their given names at an event and see the response it gets you.

We appreciate that you bleed every month :) I wouldnt be caught dead at an event with Pink or Axl Rose these days...much rather hang out in the world of porn...so much more fun!

You might want to be a little more clear on an example of when they got pissed. Were they in front of another fan that didn't know them by their real name?

Nope...I would never "expose" their real name to anyone...just sometimes i would say to them on the phone/text/email, "hey insert real name here, how are you?" instead of "hey insert porn name here, how are you?" :) No big deal at all, was just curious...we all also just have "one of those days" when something pisses you off and it often has nothing to do with what is really bothering you

I've always wondered the opposite. Would it be appropriate to call them by their stage name. Say for example if you saw one out and about and you got the nerve to approach them OR if it was even right to approach them and you called them by their stage name. And say they were with someone. What if the other people didn't know what they did and you're calling them this name.

Jacco said it correctly. If you don't know what's appropriate, don't say either. If they're with someone who looks like their parent or their child, it's probably best to not approach them at all. I was at a party last night that Dave Navarro was co-hosting. I was amazed at all the people who HAD to go up to him. I think he's amazing, but it's few and far between that I go up to a celebrity unless they're at a meet-and-greet.
I don't like people approaching me in public unless it's an official porn event like a convention or a signing. Especially when I am with civilian friends that have nothing to do with porn or my family. I don't want to talk about anal gang bangs in the grocery store. I don't like people screaming sexual stuff all the way from the other corner of the store so that every single person in there that didn't know before, now is totally aware of what I do. and plus I don't like to take photos when I just got out of the gym or so...

I personally would never go up to a pornstar on the street and just start chatting to them as if i know them. You wouldn't be talking to the person you see on screen anyway.

Just to be totally clear, or please re-read above, these are girls that i know (in person hanging out, phone, text, email, etc)...I would never approach a girl in their personal life I didnt know...would never shout out anything...that is just plain rude
Because he did not meet them as civilians, that is why. He met them as entertainers and accidentally (hopefully) saw their real names. This does not entitle him to that intimacy of calling them by their Christian names. It seems like this guy wants a higher level of intimacy that what is appropriate in his interactions with these girls. Look dude, can't you just by the DVDs and be happy and have relationships with real woman, instead of pursuing fantasy objects? Getting performers phone numbers, etc is really excessive.
Aren't they in the wrong business if they are worried about people knowing their real names? What is so "intimate" about calling somebody by their real name? Is there a reason they should be embarrased by their real names or something?

So you know them in real life they told you their real name but they get shitty if you call them by it?....sorry but what you're saying doesn't make a lot of sense. If they don't want you using their real name why did they tell you?

Like hi my real name is sally but if you ever call me that i will cut your balls off. Only way i could see them getting pissed is if you found out their real name from a third party, the way you are describing it makes the girl/girls in question sound a bit of their rocker.
Could you please define "know" and "hanging out" in the sentence above, because I'm inclined to to agree with wheat. If somebody actually knows you and told you their real name, why would they be pissed about it when you call them that? On the other hand, you do seem to have somewhat suspicious interest in pornstar's [ invalid url ].. Edited by - Zoid on 5/14/2008 10:31:21 AM
I also use that when I forgot somebody's name, darling! (oh, and for the Americans, darling is a very common way to address somebody in the UK, even if you hardly know them) Jacco
Well, with that attitude, isn't anyone who in entertainment in any of its forms in the wrong business if they have a stage name prefer it to be used? They are thought up for a reason in any profession, why should it be in this one that the stage name is put under tighter scrutiny?
I think you don't understand how women feel about their physical safety. I'm a sales clerk, and I work with the public all day. I don't wear my last name on my name tag. It's nobody's business. Having gone through the hellish experience of being stalked by a stranger, a man who fixated on me after 2 minutes of cordial small-talk during a retail transaction, I can tell you these women have every right to be protective of their personal lives. This happened when I worked in a mainstream video store. The guy was waiting in his Jeep outside the shop every night, and tried to follow me home. It's not pleasant to feel hunted. I have a question for you. When you "hang out" with these porn girls, do you pay for anything, or ever give them gifts?
There are a couple of porn girls that *I* feel I know well enough to use a real name instead of a stage name. But, one has never used her real name when speaking with me. Is that just habit or her preference? I don't know and it doesn't matter: I use her stage name and everyone is happy. It's more about "everyone is happy" than "can I get away with it". With the other girl I use her real name around civilians but her stage name in private or with her boyfriend, out of habit. She seems happy with this so it can't be that wrong.... Both have done Boss Bitches scenes so I am careful not to trigger any flashbacks... Just use the stage name unless she says not to. I think it's going to be rare that that's the wrong thing to do.
If I was fortunate to be that close with a pornstar I'd call her what ever the hell she wanted me to call her with no bitching about it. If she wanted me to call her "Your Heiness" I'd do it.
So let me get this straight...if I run into a star at a supermarket with no one else around I should say nothing? I should just stand there and stare? (that was sarcasm in case anyone thought I was serious) But seriously, what is more creepy saying something or just staring? And before someone says well just don't stare" I would argue that it is human nature. I am sure I could refrain for about 99.9% of the girls out there but if it was someone like Janine I would probably turn into a slobbering fan boy and I think everyone has their all time fav/breaking point too and if that was to happen what is the correct course of action?
Well, I think the coming up to them in public situations, once again, falls down to what you would do n the case of anyone in another type of entertainment. I mean, there are musicians I downright fucking worship, and would go crazy if I met in person, and in a few cases I have and was fucking flabergasted and had no clue of what to say. But the environment was not just around in public, it was at an event. I don't know if I'd want to go up to one of them in just a normal life situation. it just seems to me like I'd be bugging a person when they're just trying to relax and be away from the career, ya know?
Real names and personal information can, potentially, place girls at risk from stalkers and sickos -- not that there would be any of them targeting porn girls and strippers The ADT community, for example, has many of us who all know what everybody's real names are, and who a given screen name actually belongs to, but we don't use them publicly. Example: Thanks to recent events, a certain female star, who regularly posts on ADT, has had her real name made very public. We all still refer to her by her "porn" name. It's just better for everybody to keep industry people's real names out of everyday discussion.
Stage names are meant to protect performers. I always call them by the stage names unless it's in a private setting outside the industry and then I may call them by their real names.
So... If I am your number one fan you'd want me to come up to you in the supermarket and say "Hey Cody Bangs! I loved you in Assgasums 7 ?!?! You take cock like no one else!" I highly doubt it. I know people should have decorum but I highly doubt everyone would.

I think the point was more that they don't want you calling them by any name at the supermarket. They probably want to get their grocery's and go home just like you or i would. Edited by - wheat on 5/14/2008 2:44:52 PM

Tricia, How do porn personalities address each other in non-performing meetings? That is to say, that in the supermarket you bump into a performer that you know well. Do you greet them with their stage name or do you use their real names? Another example might be a performer that you do business with calls/speaks to you, which name do you/they use?
Hm, having read all this, I am somewhat curious about how performers introduce themselves to new people .. in general. I don't mean being confronted in grocery stores by crazy fans, but more like in unrelated to porn social situations. Surely everybody goes to bars, clubs, libraries, gyms, restaurants, attends concerts, sport matches and whatnot, meets other people, etc. People do have social life outside adult entertainment, don't they? I am sure good-looking chicks get spoken to and approached by guys, and obviously not every guy out there knows that a girl is in fact a pornstar (or works in the sex industry). So, if you feel like socializing with somebody do you like say, "I am [stagename]" or use the real name?
That depends on the individual. I call one of my friends always by her stagename, even her husband does that, she prefers her stagename over her real name. Luckily her non-industry friends (at least the ones I've met) know what she does, but I can imagine it was weird for the waiter when we were in a restaurant and one half of the people called her by one name, and the other half by a very different name and she reacted to both. For some girls I don't even know what their current stagename is. But "Hi darling, how are you?" always works. Jacco (edit to say: this was not a reply to Clam Digger, not Zoid (he ninjad me) but it fits too)
Well, I think performers would be in denial if someone approached them like that. But if you were calm about it and asked if that's who they are, I'm sure many performers wouldn't mind. I think Christie Lee used to talk about this guy she keeps seeing everywhere. It seems like he knows who she is and it would be more comfortable if he just said hi. But if you don't know a performer personally, I wouldn't call them by their real name. There's only a small handful who I do call by their real names but that's only because we both know each other outside the industry.

Not my style at all, but you have tyo admit that it is a hazzard of the job. Most famous people don't like to be approached, but when you do a job of a sexual nature you have to know that you are going to attract some people that lack class and tact.
The people have spoken. I'm a nitpicking dick. Woo! 8757 Posts 1/04

Not to derail this thread but I work with someone who's real name is the same as this star's stage name. I'm sure she has no idea she has a porn girl with the same name.
If I see somebody from porn in the grocery store I usually leave them alone, especially if they are not alone. If I see a porn performer in public and they are with somebody I don't know, I don't say nothing unless they come up to me because I don't know who the person is. It's always possible they are on their first date and the person doesn't know what they do. That's usually how I think of the situation. I expect the same. If I am somewhere with my civilian boyfriend or family members I don't want somebody to come up to me and talk about the last gang bang we did together. It's not cool... My family and everybody I deal with normally know but I still don't want to talk about the very details of my porn career in front of my little sisters. In my personal life I introduce myself by my real name and I usually say I do modeling/acting if they ask me what I do for a living which is not that far from the truth in my eyes. Other than that I don't talk about it any further. If somebody asks me too many questions I just tell them they are being too nosy and that's it for me. now for me it doesn't really matter anymore because I have done so many movies and I'm sure everybody knows. I get recognized all the time, there's no way of hiding it. and even if I wear no make up and sweat pants and even if don't talk about it I think everybody at the gym, grocery store etc knows but I still prefer not to really address it and I don't want to be asked sexual questions in public. yes, it's a job hazard, you are right, but I deserve myself the right to just say that it makes me uncomfortable and I chose not to talk about it and I expect everybody to respect that and move on with their day.

I saw Juli Ashton at the grocery store. I actually didn't know her real name at the time, but we were cool with each other in the business. So I caught her eye, and said "hey - good to see you. How are you?" Do you greet EVERYONE that you know with their name every time you see them, or do you sometimes just say hi and not use their name? I mean, if you met someone you DID know and temporarily forgot their name, have you ever passed it off by saying "hi, how are you?" and wait for them to introduce themself to someone and listen for what name they say? Just do that. And if you ARE cool with a porn girl (or a celebrity of any type with a stage name) you should be cool enough with them that you could ask them in private what to do if this situation ever comes up. And then go with what they ask.
Think of it as superheroes and their secret identities. If you know a superhero's true identity--Superman/Clark Kent, Spider-Man/Peter Parker, Don Diego/Zorro, etc.--you know not to call them by that identity in public, because protecting a superhero's secret identity is important. The same applies with pornstars and their real names. If you see a porn star in public--and you happen to know their real name--you should know not to call them by that name in public. Because that's important. Not to mention polite. The vast majority of us--if not, indeed, all of us--are here posting to these boards because we love porn and the men and women who make it. Especially the women. And the vast majority of us who love porn would, I think, love the women who make porn to, if not love us, at least like us a whole lot. (We certainly don't want them to hate us, do we?) And the way we--hopefully--get them to like us, is to be polite and respectful. Which means not shouting at them from across a crowded grocery store, or somesuch similar place. Or waiting for them to say "hello" first. Or not calling them by their real names in public. After all, we hope that our favorite stars will continue to get naked and sexy for us on video camera, so we have to prove that we, their devoted fans, are worthy of their nudity and sexiness. And the way to do that--apart from buying all their stuff, and buying all the stuff on their wishlists--is, again, to be polite and respectful when encountering them in public or private. Hope that helps. _____________________________________________________________

Does this kind of thing happen much? I find it really difficult to recognise people in real life as opposed to on camera. I might think they look similar but I am never really sure
i know many of the performers real names they have seed them to me but i got to know them by there pr former name so that's what i use . same thing with online buddy's like bono Dick Fitswell and others i know there names but i call em by how i got to know them first :)

OK - there's two different types of public. There's public at porn events, and there's public in everyday life, like the grocery store or the gym. Like Katja said, a lot of porn girls (and celebrities in general) would like to be able to go throughout their day without people they don't actually know talking to them. If it's a porn event, ALWAYS ALWAYS call a porn girl by her stage name, unless she specifically asks you to do different. If it's at a non-porn event, even if you feel you know the girl, make sure you use what she's asked you to. If you don't know the girl at all off-camera and really want to say hi, I'd suggest something like this: "hi, I really enjoy your work." If she responds warmly, she might be ok with a short conversation. If she says thanks and turns around, she might just want to go on with her day. Everyone's entitled to a rough day in their personal life where they just kind of want to be private, if that's what they choose.
Well, the way I see it, if you happen to run into a porn star at the grocery store or wherever, there's not a whole lot you can say that isn't going to simply be inappropriate. Like Katja said. Talking about anal gangbangs in the frozen meat department at Piggly Wiggly Might well be part of a half-baked plot for a low budget porn flick but it's part of the plot of a porn flick for a reason. It just doesn't happen in reality. Sure I'd be tempted to say hello if I ran into my favorite porn girl but if I said anything, it would probably be just a friendly "Hi". It's just an awkward thing that doesn't need to happen. What's she supposed to say? These girls have men drooling all over them all day long every day. I'm sure that even if they like it, they have their limits. As far as what to call them? Call them whatever they want you to call them. If you really want to meet a porn star, go to a convention or something and call them by their stage names. If you see them outside of that, just say "hi". You don't have to call them anything.
