Just wondering if an escort can turn down a john? I'm not referring to low-level street prostitutes (who I'm assuming see just about anyone) but the "mid-level" or "high-class" escorts.
And how does escorting work e.g. does an escort see what their client looks like before sucking their dicks and getting fucked by them? For example if a guy is 300 pounds and ugly as hell. Or if a guy shows up smelling bad, or if a guys shows up and gives off a bad vibe or something, how does that work?

That's why I'm asking the question, I have no idea how the "industry" of escorting works. Not to mention, it's not like I can ask any people I know since I don't know any who either work as or visit escorts.

I also am curious as to how the industry works in terms of does an escort/prostitute get to SEE THE GUY that she is going to service prior to meeting, or is the first time she sees him when he shows up for the "date"?

Well I guess it varies a bit from country to country but generally they don't see their client prior, and it's basic survival instinct to decline a weirdo, a drunk or someone visibly sick.
If you have an interest in the subject, I'm sure you can find books, specialized online forums, etc...

Don't high-end escorts (i.e. their agencies) get "deposits" upfront, before they even meet the client?
Also, wouldn't the nature of prostitution have a large percentage of socially awkward/unattractive men seeking female companionship as routine business?
Of course, the girls have the right to turn-down a client for their own health and personal safety.
But, we're talking prostitution here, not setting standards for evaluating a potential boyfriend

^ I think comparing European with American prostitution is almost pointless, in terms of having a common frame-of-reference.
In the United States, prostitution is illegal everywhere (except for a few isolated locations in Nevada).
Whereas, in most of the world, especially Europe, prostitution is legal.
(scroll your pointer over the map on the linked-to page)
So, is the original poster, and this thread, asking about the U.S. or the rest of the world?
No point in expressing an American-based discussion, if we then try to define it with European legal prostitution standards and practices.
typo corrected (which should have been obvious it was a typo to anyone who read the post and/or followed the links I provide)

I don't think we can generalize anyway. Situation must be quite different between different US (and European) states.

If mid and top shelf escorts turn down guys over their looks; they will limit their market and not be very "busy".
Girls will turn guys away for bad hygiene. If you haven't showered, your mouth stinks like hell, you are dressed like a street bum, your genital area is covered in gooey sweat, etc they might give you the toss.
The good ones are used to seeing fat guys, old guys, handicapped guys, all the time. Sure, they get lots of nice looking men they are attracted to, but that is only a percentage of their market and they will not make a career out of it if they go that route.
Most girls emotionally turn off some switches so they are just providing sex. So to them, they don't care if the guy looks good or not because it is not "emotional sex" or " dating sex", if you know what I mean.
If you are clean, it will be nearly impossible to be turned away by quality escort. They will provide what you are looking for.

So I'm assuming that escorts rarely/never actually enjoy the sex unless the guy is very attractive or really good in bed, am I right?

^ Wouldn't that apply to all humans? Being attracted to your partner and quality sex = enjoying sex?
In answer to the original question: yes, escorts can decline clients.

Yes but I'm trying to figure out what percent of escorts actually enjoy the sex versus just doing it for the money. Also, what are some reasons in your opinion an escort will actually decline a potential client?

All human beings act based upon multiple, and sometimes conflicting, motives. Being an escort doesn't change that.

I think it would make sense that they enjoy the sex most of the time, and don't enjoy it some of the time. And always are doing it for the money as it is their career! We all have great and fulfilling days and other days where we "phone it in" just to get through the day and get a paycheck. Escorting is no different.

Your confusion should, in part, answer your question. Your question assumes people do a job either because they enjoy it or because they just want money. The reality is a little more complex, as everyone who has a (paying) job realises.

Except there's one big difference. If you work at a crappy job for 8 hours a day at low wage then I would imagine that is much worse than getting paid $200 for one hour (more than twice as much as someone making $10 an hour working at job for 8 hours of work) to fuck a stranger or suck his dick. This in my opinion is an example of blatant female privilege that almost never gets discussed.

^ I suppose that would depend on the day, the client, and the job. You should also take into account that the low wage worker often has benefits such as healthcare and basic human rights (debatable these days, of course, but you get the idea), likely will not be harassed, assaulted, or raped by the customer and if they are, the police can be called and the worker probably won't go to jail. They probably won't be assaulted and/or raped by the police officer, too. Oh, and they can probably tell their friends and family what they do for a living without fear of ostracization or worse. In addition, the low wage worker isn't always male and the sex worker isn't always female, but I know you have an obsession with "female privilege" so I understand why this discussion has taken this manner of detour.

1- Your complaints about escorts being arrested only applies to a small number of countries like the U.S. where it is still illegal
2- What percentage of escorts actually get harassed, raped, or assaulted? I don't know the answer but I'm guessing it's a very small percent since from what I've read they take numerous security measures, as well as knowing the name and phone number of the john so they can track him down later if he assaults them in any way
3- If you know anything about the corporate fascist country know as the U.S. (where I live unfortunately) you'll know low-wage workers get treated like shit and often have inadequate and very expensive private healthcare (compared to Europe where healthcare is a human right and is free)
4- The thing about escorts being raped by police I call BS on, how common is that in all reality?
5- As far as the gender differences in escorting I should have clarified, yes there are gay male escorts but if you did a survey I would say escorts are 99% female, trans, or gay men. I'm aware that straight male escorts are out there but they probably make up less than 1% of all escorts, and the women they have to fuck probably are obese and disgusting in all likelihood, since most women have a much easier time getting laid for free (another example of female privilege that you probably don't want to discuss)

If you'd like women to pay for sex then men would have to stop putting out so easily. Why is it female privilege if men are just doing what they want? Women (in general) do not want to have sex outside of relationships, so men (who do apparently want to have sex outside of relationships) must pay for that service from women. This is not privilege, this is economics. Generally speaking, we pay people to do things they would otherwise not do, because we recognize that they are working (doing something that is not "fun").

No, it's definetly a privilege because most of the men would opt to have sex for free instead of paying. Geting paid for sex is a privilige exclusively for reasonable attractive women and very attractive and young GAY prostitutes. The Male escort for women is a myth, it's avery limited audiance and half of the time sex isn't even involved.
Yet I wouldn;t say it's wonderful situation to be a prostitute. Most of them have a wrecked life because of this job. For them it's a job, nothing else. It's just a job that only some poeple can do. Not everyone, so deciding to do it is a privilige or, should we say, a qualification.
There two types of prostitutes:
- The industrial ones who take so many client every day that the question of enjoying doesn't even cross the mind. They do it. Minutes are counted. The service is very bad, definetly a ripp-off. Their goal is to take the money and do as less as possible.
- The amateurs/occasional ones who do enjoy it. They are not more expensive but they do it less often, thus enjoy it also much more. Almost every prostitue realy like sex and enjoy their job, except when they turn industrial.
Most of the clients are, contrary to all beliefs, young men between 20 and 50. Many are in their 20's and good looking. It's just that these guys don't have a g/f.
The old guys are coming too but not that often.
Prositutes hate very young boys (18 or something). What they want is wealthy men in their 40's.
About obesity and smell: I guess that a prostitute with the same attributes won't decline. Many prositutes are overweight, dirty and sometimes not at all attractive. So why should they be capricious?

The only "privilege" a woman has as far as this is concerned is not having to have sex with anybody that she doesn't want to, for whatever reason. And for most civilized people, that's a pretty basic human right. Some of you choose to see it as a privilege because you quite obviously resent something about that. Whether that's due to a complete lack of understanding and empathy or a totally warped sense of entitlement is something only a paid professional can help you with.

Also you mentioned a "warped sense of entitlement".
Warped entitlement is a woman expecting a man to shell out $300 or $400 or $500 to her for sex. That's warped entitlement, now go and think about that one for a little bit...

Why is it warped to request that a man demonstrate that he values what you have to offer as much as you value offering it? He obviously has the choice to refuse and seek entertainment elsewhere. No one is forcing him to pay for anything, sex or otherwise.

I choose the manner in which I address the subject because it's comical to me that you actually believe what you're saying. Of course, it wouldn't be so comical if you weren't just a screen name. In that case, I might be forced to actually weep for humanity... and nobody wants to do that if they can help it.
I've never experienced this in my life. No woman has ever come up to me and demanded money from me for anything. Never. Not once.
I'd honestly be curious to know how you'd feel if a woman held you to the same standard to which you hold them? That you should just "put out" for the sake of her incredulity at the notion that you wouldn't.

There's nothing taboo about the topic. The problem is that, again, you are overgeneralizing from the particular to encompass an entire sex. In other words, just because all women are female does not mean that Rosie O'Donnell can pick up a guy easier than Tom Cruise can pick up a gal. Did you need that with pictures?
Furthermore, you chose your words, not I. According to dictionary.com:
privilege:
1. a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most: the privileges of the very rich.
2. a special right, immunity, or exemption granted to persons in authority or office to free them from certain obligations or liabilities: the privilege of a senator to speak in Congress without danger of a libel suit.
3. a grant to an individual, corporation, etc., of a special right or immunity, under certain conditions.
4. the principle or condition of enjoying special rights or immunities.
5. any of the rights common to all citizens under a modern constitutional government: We enjoy the privileges of a free people

...
arrogant:
1. making claims or pretensions to superior importance or rights; overbearingly assuming; insolently proud: an arrogant public official.
2. characterized by or proceeding from arrogance, or a sense of superiority, self-importance, or entitlement: arrogant claims.

Pointing out the flaws in your word choice does not constitute arrogance, and the ad hominem doesn't impress anybody.

Cloudburst, your resentment towards women is palpable. It's bordering on hatred, and it's a bit scary. I certainly mean you no disrespect, but I suggest you seek professional help. Boogie suggested it first, and I'm also in support of that idea. This is not simply a matter of us having differing opinions. This is a matter of you having opinions that are so at odds with reality that you may end up hurting someone else or yourself if you are really sincere about the stuff you've posted here.

The point I'm trying to make here is that a man DOESN'T HAVE THE CHOICE to seek entertainment elsewhere (w/o paying money of course) whereas a female DOES. If a hot guy turns a girl down she can just move on to the next and within hitting on a few attractive guys she will almost certainly find one who will have casual sex with her for free. Now if you're an average good-looking straight guy go out and try doing that and see what happens. Your chances are much lower you will be able to obtain casual sex with an attractive 8+ female without having to spend money on her and even then the chances are slimmer. Again, that is just one example of female sexual privilege that you choose to ignore.

You are distorting my point once again. It's not about a woman putting out, it's about the ease in which a woman (and for that matter a gay male - I should have mentioned that also) can obtain sex when compared to a straight male.

I truly had to laugh out loud at that, right because I bring up uncomfortable truths about society I need to seek mental help. That's been told to lots of people throughout history, so again it doesn't surprise me that people on here would make statements like that. Nice ad hominem though Macko. And I have no hatred for women, I have hatred for double-standards, inequality, and sexism.

Let's take a quick look at what you said in the other thread, shall we?
So your reason for not visiting a hooker is because if you start to choke her, she'll tell you to stop and that will remind you that you've paid for sex and made you feel like a chump. You don't have any regard for the poor woman you're imagining you choked. It's all about her making you feel like a chump. Uh huh. I'm not going to call you a rapist, but this sounds quite "rapey" to me.
This, combined with all of what you've said above? This is a code red, my friend. Unless you get an attitude adjustment right quick, I predict something very bad will happen.

I'm not necessarily blaming anyone, and yes I am resentful as you and all straight males should also feel. I'm pointing out female privileges (just one of many by the way, women don't just have sexual privilege) that never get discussed for some reason. Whenever a double-standard negatively affects females it gets discussed and attacked as sexism or misogyny. Not true for the opposite, men are supposed to be quiet and not complain...

Now I'm being accused of being a potential rapist, nice one. Of course Hardware will bring up this ad hominem right?? Oh I forgot, he only brings up ad hominems that I make (or don't make).
Anyway don't worry, I have never raped anyone before and in the future will never do so, I don't have it in me to do something like that.
And thanks Macko for distorting my words again while completely dodging my points about double-standards, and then on top of that selectively picking out quotes from another thread.

Hey, great. Now I feel so much better.
So let's address your double standard issue, shall we? I would agree that if a woman was at least somewhat attractive, she would find it easier to make money selling sex than most men would if they tried to sell sex to women. So what? Do you see the need for a change? If so, how should it go? Should all kinds of hot women be giving you sex for free? Or should women be paying you to fuck them with your magical dick? Either way, it ain't happening, so put on your big-boy pants and try to view the world for what it is, rather than what you think it should be.

I don't understand your disconnect on this issue. ALL services rendered require someone to make payment. If I want to go view a movie, I must pay the theatre. If I want a speciality meal, I must pay a restaurateur to cook for me. If I can't roof my house by myself, I have to pay a roofer. Those people WORK to provide me with a service that I choose to utilize. Nobody forces me to use the service, but if I want the service, I must pay the people who provide it.
Complaining that a roofer doesn't have to pay someone to put a roof on his own house is ridiculous. Complaining that a chef doesn't have to pay someone else to cook for him is ridiculous. So on and so forth...
Women have something (a service) that men want in high demand. Men do not have an equal service that women want in equal demand. Thus, by all social rules of commerce, men end up paying for what they want, but women do not. This is not privilege, it is supply and demand. If men did not want to have sex freely with women, then (if women wanted sex with men) women would have to pay to get what they wanted. This is simply not the case.
