I can be kind of dense when it come to reading instructions and manuals but is there any menu buried in this camera that has some kind of battery meter? When it runs out of battery power the screen says something line "change batteries now". Then Vanishes. This is not helpful. I need some kind of warning so I can get ready with fresh batteries. I apologize if the answer is obvious. I researched in forums a bit and didn.t not find anything too useful. ---~~~Paging GaySatyr~~~--- Could GaySatyr please pick up the courtesy phone.
From the manual (page 17): BATTERY STATUS INDICATIONS The LCD monitor displays an icon or message to let you know when batteries are low or depleted. POWER LAMP BLINKS GREEN (Icon of battery half-filled): Batteries are beginning to run low. Replace or recharge if you wish to continue using the camera. If the LCD monitor is off, this icon will appear when you press any of the follwing buttions: DISP., [lighting bolt (flash)], or [flower]/MF button. CHANGE THE BATTERIES: Batteries are fully depleted and the camera can no longer operate. You should replace the batteries immediately.
All the digicams I've ever used had a battery level indicator that stayed on the LCD whenever it was on. It usually looks like an AA battery with little bars. That said, I've never used a Canon (Only Sony, Kodak and Olympus) so they might have different ways of doing things. There may be a setting that you have to turn on somewhere in the menu so that it displays the battery meter. I would look under the menu heading for the display. Most cameras have this. It would be for contrast and brightness and various things. If all else fails, you could just try calling Canon. They're one of the major digicam players so I would guess they have decent tech support. There's also probably a Canon newsgroup or message board. Jayo, I appreciate your research but I have discovered all of this. MY issue is that when I am taking pictures out of nowhere it will tell me to change the batteries and then shut off. WHat I wanted was some advanced warning. SO if I am taking a series of pics I like I can change the batteries to fresh ones withought really interrupting my picture taking. Some great hamster photos have been missed because of the need for the surprise battery change. So you don't know of any meter to help my problem? I looked (just a bit) and I can not find any updated firmware that might fix it. If you have any ideas please help. But it may just turn out thr a95 doesn't do it at all. Thanks Jayo and RP.

I don't think my LCD screen does that. If it helps I always take pictures with the Canon dial set to "c" for custom.
I have a different Canon, but I do get the little battery icon when the battery is low. I haven't noticed whether mine gives me the blinking power light. I'll have to check.

There is NO kind of batter level related icon on the lcd.
Get a Fluke multi-meter and solder it to the battery terminals inside the camera. Fashion a velcro strap to wear the Fluke meter on your wrist, and never wonder about your battery life again. [Image not found DB]
CQ - What kind of batteries are you using? If you're just using regular alkaline batteries, you can get a lot more juice from rechargeables. I wouldn't even think of running a digicam on regular alkalines. Digital cameras eat them for breakfast. If you don't have rechargeables already, get yourself some but don't get NiCAD. They suck. The other kind. Get the highest capacity ones you can find. Get two or three sets and a good quick charger. Mine charges them in about 45 minutes. Sorry if this is redundant and you're already using them but a lot of people don't know.
I have the A95 too, as far as I can remember the red icon comes up for low battery but I can generally continue with maybe five or six more shots then it'll stop going. It doesn't just say low battery then turn off. I'm not sure if you can change the notification process,I'll look in the manual and see if I can see anything. I use NIMH rechargeables, they go for a very long time, I carry a spare set charged up in the camera case and mostly it's no trouble.
I've never used a canon, only olympus and sony, but ....... Do you have the LCD status displays turned off? Some cameras let you do this. The LCD should have all kinds of text, symbols and stuff all over it, including the battery meter. If it only has the picture and nothing else, check the manual for "display modes".

Licker I don't have all the optiond on thr LCD on. ON my Canon on the dial is a "C" for custom mode. There is very little going on and I use it for hamster pictures. I lust want to knoe if there was an easy way to tell if my batteries were getting loe. I don't think you can do it in "C"mode. It doesn't even have a lite meter in that function.. Check out my photos please.
