I expect a tax refund of around 3-30 thousand dollars which means I want to make a computer.
Is it worth getting an excessive SKI sysytem (part is for boasting rights).

An Intel quad-core processor is definitely worth the expense, especially considering how little the Q6600 costs. Personally, I think that SLI (nVidia) and/or CrossFire (ATI) dual, triple or quad video cards are a stupid waste of resources for negligible gain; however, I'm not a gamer, much less a rabid one.
