Has anyone thought of buying condoms the colors that are usually used in green screen work? Then it would be possible to delete the condom in post production and then fill in the flesh details.

You'd be able to do a scene with a condom in it but it won't look like it. Would it work? It sounds worth a try.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard people say that you could take out the condoms in post-editing.

Even with chroma-keying, this type of work has to be done on a frame-by-frame basis. With the best possible foresight, you might be able to let it render itself for a few seconds at a time. So a few seconds, then re-tweak the post. Go a few more seconds into the scene, re-tweak the post. A few more seconds, re-tweak the post.

Sound tedious? It would be. Something as simple as digitally "erasing" a wart from a girl's skin for a few minutes of video takes quite awhile too. And then you don't have to worry about it looking too obvious because the skin around it is smooth. Can you imagine having to touch up the veins in the dick after "erasing" or keying-out the condom?

I'm not trying to pick on you Lordish. It's just that too many people seem to think this is the fix for porn. I wanted to put a full answer again so that the next few dozen times I get this suggestion, I can point them to this thread.

Right now, the technology that porn editors are using for editing porn would not be able to handle this for less than about $20,000 of editing labor. And even then, it would probably still look obvious, like a bad CGI dick or a really cheap rubber flesh-colored dildo. Which negates the whole purpose of trying to erase the condom in the first place.

Unless it's for comedy porn, I don't recommend it.

I remember only one SFX dick. IIRC, In "F", John Leslie fucked a golden chick, his dick was 'glowing' like a light saber when he pulled out, and he used it as a key to unlock a magic door. Was kind of funny.

There is apparently a new condom in the development stages that is sprayed on, it comes in a can. You spray your cock and it gets coated with a condom, but the great thing is that it's pretty much almost invisible. It's very difficult to actually tell someone is wearing it unless you look very very closely and even then they say it's hard to tell. If this thing ends up working, especially the invisibility part, it could be a huge plus for porn companies.

Not knowing is why I asked the question Tricia, and I don't feel picked on. Obviously, the key here is advancing technology. If they can make Tobey Maguire climb a wall like a spider and make it totally convincing, you'd think something simple like taking out a condom would be easy-peasy.

Why doesn't the industry as a whole invest in the development of new CGI programs that can make that kind of editing easier? Everyone would benefit, and the safety of the job would be much higher.

It seems to me with the regulatory atmosphere getting hotter, this kind of technical development has to be done or we're back to the good old days of making 8mm loops in basements and shipping them one at a time to folks by unmarked cars.

The industry could invest in making protective wear more invisible itself, say a fully internal female condom.

Nobody wants to reduce their enormous profits I'm sure, but a short term loss could curb all the industry's disease problems and get the product out.

What's wrong with a modicum of foresight?

Ahh my second post has an answer already. It's THIS kind of development work that's necessary. This spray on condom also looks like it would be a winner for the general public!

The budget for a movie like Spiderman 2 is in the hundreds of millions. For Spiderman, CGI probably uses up around a third of that budget.

The budget for a typical porn movie is in the thousands. A big budget porn movie cost tens of thousands. A huge budget porn movie is in the low hundreds of thousands.

Either the cost of GCI has to come way down, or the price of porn has to go way up before we will see good CGI in porn.

Keep CGI away from the genitalia in my porn!

Sorry but I can live with condoms. No biggie. But CGI and other trickery is a huge no-no.
The sex in porn should be real IMO. Luckily the tech is still not good enough for it to be financially viable to fake it in porn with CGI yet.

Of course I'm just speaking for myself here, but I suspect that the vehement anticondomites won't like the idea much either.

If the condom was overlaid with CGI why would the guy even need a hard-on? There'd be no need for penetration either. Just use a virtual dick and fake the widening effect on various orifices.
Cumshots should be even easier to fake.
And as the tech gets better, who needs performers? Just get a couple of voice actors or even cheaper some canned moaning.

Might as well watch hentai.

Oh, the horror, the horror.

Me thinks there is no such thing as "industry as a whole". It's not a single organization with the board of directors who can make a decision like "Let's do that or that." It's not even a union.

Some company/business might do it, but there is no point.
CG are expensive and take time to do which means production costs and times of porn will skyrocket; that is provided porn companies will be able to afford such technology in the first place.

Besides, for CG (dicks) to work in porn, they need to be perfect (as Tricia mentioned) and technology to flawlessly simulate human physiology in great detail isn't there yet, even in mainstream -- so far it's more like approximation.
And if it ain't perfect, you can just as well equip male performers with strap-ons.

Full ACK.
No, try "Angriff der Pornosaurier" instead; no CGI, only old fashioned SFX-cocks.

MB - I have heard something about the spray-on condoms, but haven't actually seen them yet.

That could be a really, really great compromise between safety for the performers and not ruining the fantasy for the viewers.

What about when it's time for the cumshot? A needle to puncture it, or a dab of acetone to dissolve it?

I would have thought that things like a2m and swapping partners would not be possible with condoms. Am i right? I' ve always thought that the acts that condoms make impossible is more of a problem than the way they look to gthe viewer.

i don't understand what's the big deal with condoms in porn, they don't change anything. do they ? that's just to freaky to think about excessive post production issues on porn.

cheers, waterproof
