Let's talk about a serious question in porn. The impact of OnlyFans on the industry. Thank you. Between killing porn and finacial independance.

I don't see how OnlyFans is killing the adult industry. I see it as working congruent with the adult movie industry. The stars get the fans through their adult industry work that will sign up for their OnlyFans. And actors and actresses getting financial independence is a great thing.

Are you suggesting OnlyFans only has a negative impact on the industry?

Why is OnlyFans a having an impact, good or "killing porn" as you put it? For a start, piracy is rampant and this impacts the money studios can pay models and performers be it rates and/or the frequency of shoots. Seeing that a major player in the industry ironically takes in revenue from pirated content, it has little incentive to change that, even if it comes at the cost of hurting individual performers incomes.

Porn performers often have a very limited time in the industry and with career prospects offering comparable wages outside the industry being rather limited due to financial, social and corporate prejudice toward former or current sex workers, it is in a performer's best interests to maximize their income while they're in the industry. This situation is compounded by royalty-based earnings from studios being in the minority of cases.

The likes of OnlyFans and ManyVids are easy and lazy scapegoats but they are mere responses to problems that have been in the industry for years albeit problems that customers and freeloaders did not see the impact of immediately. Financial independence is luxury not afforded to many in the industry.

If belittling and denouncing OF or MV makes you feel better about yourself, that's your prerogative though it's curious why you haven't called out freeloaders and industry players else whose actions or inactions have contributed to the financial woes of the industry, leading performers to turn to platforms you find disagreeable in the hope of securing higher revenue streams.

Lena Paul had a good thread about this last year, but it really boils down to economics. If you shoot for a studio, your average contract girl is making approximately $60k in LA. That's not terrible, but not great considering the cost of living in the area. So you shoot a couple of scenes a month, make around $500 or so per scene and that's it. It's not a bad way to start, but honestly it's hard for most girls to book more than 5-6 scenes a month.

Alternatively, you can shoot 20 scenes a month at home. On your own time. You still have to give up between 20-40% of the clip price, but you also can sell that clip forever. Bundle it up. License it for DVD use and distribution to international markets. Etc. Also you can hop on OnlyFans and promote your longer clips, while still filming casual stuff as well. I find a lot of peers are doing a snapchat/onlyfans type combo where they basically shoot the cum shows and daily grind on snap, and push a few of them to OnlyFans later. Any girl with a reasonable audience is going to likely make more than doing contract work, and with a lot less hassle.

The difficulty, of course, is the constant online presence you have to maintain. You literally are constantly shooting video, photos while marketing to social media. Most girls I know are working 12-14 hours a day doing the former, while contract girls often work a lot less hours overall. It's really a lot of work either way, but the OnlyFans girls are definitely juggling a bunch of different hats with marketing, editing, promos, shooting, etc.

This is just my point of view, I've never worked for a studio although I've considered it. I'm sure someone can speak to it though!

^^^$500-$600 a scene?? wtf? Maybe for male talent. Also, some of these onlyfans girls make five to six figures a month off of subscribers. It's ridiculous how much for so little some people post on their onlyfans they make. Onlyfans got bought by Myfreecams so not sure how they will change the site to compete for the better up to date ones like Stars.AVN. Onlyfans has payout issues, stream issues, support for their members is horrendous.

many girls with a decent following on twitter/instagram are killing it. making anywhere from 20k-100k a month just from onlyfans.

I'm talking the average girl. In order to make 5-6 figures a month on OnlyFans you're literally in the top 2-3% of talent, OnlyFans conveniently shows you what percentile you are in so a lot of us have talked about what we are earning on Twitter.. So yes, the top percent of girls are making a lot of money. I was more speaking to the average model.

Yes, I know of the percentage that Onlyfans tells you about. Girls love to post what percentage they are and how close they are to 1%. Stars.AVN is way better of a site for girls to use than Onlyfans.

I like Stars a lot, and the general consensus is that its a much better site as you stated. Onlyfans just has a much larger user base, for now.

Sorry for derailing the topic a bit, but yea... a lot of girls are definitely moving to a more independent role. It's sad, in a way, I miss the fun and campy stuff like Pirates, which I don't think would be made in today's climate.

That is such a clumsy sweeping statement. A sizeable amount of content may seem to have been shot with a toaster, worsened by being done so indoors with bad lighting but on the other hand there's plenty that was shot with decent cameras and good lighting so even with OF's compression they come out reasonably well.

Some girls Onlyfans aren't worth the money though. You pay $14.99 a month to see what? 5-30 sec vids and some pics? Then to see the girl cum you get offered in DM a pay per view video for another $9.99 on top of your monthly bill. Other girls will post straight up long sex videos on theirs for $14.99 and sometimes less except it's difficult to tell which girls are the ones who do that and who don't. Porn sites I feel will always be around because for the low price of $9.99 a month you can view hardcore XXX scenes as much as you want whenever you want in full HD pics or vids, no lag, no hidden extra fees, of numerous girls on said sites such as Brazzers, Bangbros, Realitykings, etc...

Initially I was doing 1 scene per week, in 4K and 20+ mins in length. I charged about $14.99 a month, and was doing ok. After talking to some other girls, I switched to posting 1 scene per month, and just messaging my other scenes at clip site prices while changing my monthly to $6.69. I was able to 4x my OnlyFans revenue by doing that, and generally this seems to be the model most girls are moving to. However, I'm not a big fan of this, so I've opted to just do a member's site and gradually phase out my OF. Anyhow, that's my experience with OnlyFans. I liked it ok, but honestly members want constant updates and it can be difficult to keep up. I'd rather do 4-6 scenes per month, and 2-3 photo sets vs the daily thing.

^^^That is the reason why I only subscribe to a couple girls who I know post regularly full porn vids for regular price. This microtransaction technique is a gaming industry practice. I know girls do that because I've seen guys tweet complaints about paying to subscribe only to find out its another payment of said price for a 10min cumshow vid. They'd rather just join a porn site I mentioned earlier and receive more for less. I think only hard core fan bois are the dedicated don't care I'll pay whatever for an exclusive or bts vid.

I get it. There's a bit of pressure on all sides. Obviously if there's an audience that's responsive to that model, it's going to be used. However, it creates a feedback loop that pushes you to message everyone and create content rapidly, which is difficult to maintain for some girls. That being said, it does enable a lot of models to forgo the old studio freelancer/contract system. Ultimately, I think amateur and pro-am is an incredible way to work without having to give up creative control nor acquiesce to a faceless corp while also making more money. Personally, I think studios will become more and more boutique over time, but they will have tons of back catalog to maintain themselves for a long while.

Yeah, but how are girls getting exposure these days to get so many subscribers on those sites? By shooting for porn companies then once they have that fan base they move on to Onlyfans. They feed off of each other. It's just like the way now,get famous real quick in porn, establish a large fan base ten move on to selling your own content on Onlyfans. It's that, because once you reach a certain age in porn your scene hires dwindle down I suppose.

Absolutely! Many girls get their start with studios, but I think there is a growing number of models who start on IG, or Reddit, etc.

I get that. In some cases I can live with microtransactions depending on what content is available and the price you pay for the base sub. There was one lass I subscribed to for a modest fee and her premium exclusive content was available via microtransaction. I was willing to pay for it and I was very specific about the content I was after since she had advertised it on Twitter so I asked her about two specific scenes. The problem was that she kept trying to push other premium content first, never offering what I was truly after, almost like a loot crate business model. I didn't renew my base subscription.

On the other hand there was different lady who offered some of her premium/bonus content via microtransaction, I enquired about buying some of it, she gave a price so I paid and she's retained me as a subscriber.

When most fans talk about the impact of Onlyfans, they're mostly talking about it in the sense of "It's meant that performers I like don't shoot for major companies as much as I want them to" more than the actual impact it has had on the industry as a whole.

Performers being able to self-publish content without as many hoops to jump through (i.e. making your own website and setting up payment systems) has almost unquestionably been a good thing. Some people are always gonna look at it in terms of the performers that choose to self-publish instead of shooting for major companies, but I'm always gonna see it as the performers that never would have shot for major companies in the first place, or the performers that before (as in post economic downturn) would have shot a few scenes, and then ended up leaving the industry because the work for them dried up, being able to continue to put out content and stick around if that's what they want to do. Getting a handle on pricing and frequency of content will come, but I'm willing to deal without just for the fact that we'll be getting more diverse content than we were in the past.

OnlyFans is unquestionably a positive thing for performers being able to access another revenue stream. It's not exactly a secret that the porn industry is a shadow of what it used to be back in the glory days of big returns for companies like Vivid. Will some of the really successful performers eventually wall-off all their content behind OF? Maybe, but I haven't yet seen that from the most popular performers. If the end result is performers having a somewhat smaller catalogue of public content (with the other portion going to their OF account) in exchange for more longevity I'll be happy.

One small adjustment I'd like to see to the platform is being able to have some kind of preview window into what type of content is on a performer's OF. A few times I've subscribed to someone's page, and quickly realized there's nothing there other than low-res photos & 10 second vids of nothing happening. It's not a huge source of frustration (I just think of the $6-15 initial charge as a tip), but I think it would help smooth things over with skeptical consumers.

It would definitely be nice, and something that would probably result in more subs overall and improve customer satisfaction. Maybe one of the OnlyFans competitors coming up can work that into their platform.

I don't know how you can possibly not think Onlyfans is killing the industry. Well it will never truly die as an industry, but if this thing goes as far as it's going with the current rate, it's gonna end up killing off the diversity and versatility of porn. You'll only have a couple of big companies producing generic porn(because most people who buy porn are into 'normal porn') and all the studios with the specific fetishes and movies themes will cease to exist. You will no longer see big stars having a decade long career with a giant filmography with tons of different types of movies and fetishes.

tldr: The possible future is a handful of big companies like mindgeek are left where performers make a name for themselves for a couple of months and then switch over to Onlyfans.

OR, and it is possible it could go another route, is enough people finally see how many of these onlyfans pages are ripoffs and stop funding it. Then things might go back to normal.

What would actually happen in that scenario (which I still don't think is particularly likely, because there's still gonna be people that like to see various performers doing the same type of niche content, so the membership sites for them would still bring in enough money to exist) is that the diversity wouldn't really die, it would move to OnlyFans. The people who are into the niche content would end up being under-served, so some entrepreneurial performers would end up creating an OnlyFans page to serve them, and those pages would get popular. And content trades would mean that if a performer is really into that type of scene but doesn't want to specialize in it, they'd be able to do with another performer who is more known for it, and have it on both their pages.

In order words, the audience for those types of content wouldn't actually go away, so if the studios that are currently providing them were to "cease to exist", the performers would pick up the slack.

Edit: Thinking about it a little further, what you'd actually end up with in this situation is the rise of the performer as a producer, where they start shooting a type content themselves as a performer, and then move into shooting the same type of content but with other performers as well. You've already got some pretty popular examples over the past few years with The Madisons and their network of sites, and MissaX and theirs.

Kelly and Ryan Madison have been established for a long, long time now as their own powerhouse. The money they saved over the years of having only Ryan as the male talent must've been nuts. Plus, they branched out contracting other performers to shoot in various locations other than their home which stuff was mostly shot.

There is now girls who make so much on Onlyfans that they are hiring videographers to fly around with them to film them in various places. I saw an ad on reddit earlier this month and it's shocking how much the girl can afford to pay the person for a year just off of sales from that site.

So in other words, porn as we know it would certainly die off like I said since "moving it to onlyfans" would mean that it would be turned into bad quality, ridiculous overpricing and all the other problems that this company presents. Performers aren't 'producers'. Horrible lighting, angles, small duration and all of this glorious stuff under several paywalls isn't gonna replace what we got now.

I've always said that porn fans are the biggest suckers on the planet. The really thirsty ones are gonna continue funding this onlyfans ripoff. The rest of the majority of folks in the world will continue watching the big mainstream brazzers, bangbros etc. That leaves the rest of us, the ones in the middle ground, left to deal with a dead industry.

Given the trajectory of the industry over the last 10 years, I don't get how someone can hand wring over a platform like OnlyFans as if THAT is going to be what kills the industry. Not sure where everyone's been looking, but the glory days of big budget movies & dozens of successful mid-level studios are long gone. Telling performers that they can't try to maximize their income in an industry where their revenue has been dramatically reduced in the last few years is simply dumb. The most likely reality I can see is the industry will consist of a few major conglomerates and networks like a MindGeek and Adulttime which bankroll the larger sites for monthly fees to the consumers, along with the legacy brands that have large archives of material (Something like GirlFriends Films). And the sites replacing those mid-level studios will most likely be a combination of fetish-sites & indie clip stores (like ManyVids). Platforms like OnlyFans will continue to exist as a walled-garden for those who are particularly interested in specific stars and are willing to pay extra for additional content. Is that my ideal scenario? Not exactly, but it's far superior to a world in which all the major studios have closed and we're stuck with some crappy Go-Pro content on Pornhub.

^It's the platforms like Onlyfans that is gonna cause those studios to close indirectly. You're way off the mark. The "piracy is gonna kill porn" has been a thing for decades now, people have adapted. It's not a scapegoat for this.

What's keeping them alive is a constant influx of young, willing starlets who turn into big stars and have careers of atleast 2 to 3 years, sometimes more, and then they're constantly replaced by nercomers to rinse and repeat. But what's happening now is every girl who has started and has gotten herself even a decent name is already dipping into the onlyfans sites, finds out that the thirsty crowds are willing enough to get milked so they like it and soon enough, they either say goodbye to their porn career or only do a couple of scenes a year with the big companies. It has been spotted countless times now and only increasing despite all the bad press onlyfans get from ripping off their customers.

Well for starters at no point did I say here that piracy was the sole reason for the relative decline in profits for porn studios, but it is an unarguable reality that the profit-margins are simply
nowhere near where they were during the heydays of the late 90's-early 00's. Furthermore, this idea that potential stars are all dropping out to stay exclusively on OnlyFans is a pretty tenuous argument at best. There's no objective way to measure a hypothetical but take a glance at Pornhub's popularity rankings of models over the last month. Of the Top 25, only about 3 haven't appeared in any traditional consumer porn network or film. And from what I've seen, all the burgeoning stars who have OF accounts are still regularly booking shoots with studios & sites. There have always been instances of some notable person making a splash then immediately disappearing into obscurity, or charging fans directly for non-studio content. But that long predated the existence of OnlyFans. Lastly, I'm not sure what you think your recourse is here. You can't stop performers from seeking additional revenue streams (nor should you, because that's a pretty shit thing to do), and if consumers find the content available worth paying for then they'll pay for it.

Also, the idea that "bad quality and ridiculous overpricing" are somehow intrinsic to OnlyFans and part and parcel of the platform are just kinda nuts. The popular pricing models for OnlyFans has been changing over the past year, as stated by an actual performer in this thread. We may end up settling at the prices we have now, or someone might find a newer pricing model that makes even more money for the performers while being less costly for the casual fans. And the quality is literally whatever the performer wants it to be, as it's possible to shoot and edit content as well as studio does and then upload it to OnlyFans, it's just that cell phone quality is easier to shoot and distribute for one, and for many fans makes it feel more "real" and less "acted/staged" than studio scenes, which is what A LOT of fans want from their content nowadays.

Edit: And the idea that "performers aren't producers" is such bullshit that I'm not sure it's worth a response. The modern landscape of porn has some of the most popular producers around being either former or even current performers (Jules Jordan is a performer/producer, Dana Vespoli is a performer/producer, Manuel is a performer/produer, Kayden Kross is a performer/producer, and I could list about 10 other ones on top of that, including nearly the entire roster of producers for Evil Angel).

@ whatsatelephonebill

I have seen these complaints about the overwhelming majority of cases I've looked into. And as long as they do shady business I will never spend a dime on it, frankly I still can't believe the apparent success of such a platform where you don't know what you're getting, and you hear about others saying they paid to get access for an advertised scene and then stumble into another paywall.

I have bought scenes from Manyvids & Clips4sale though. I always can see exactly what I'm getting and paying for. No scams there, so I'm fine with it.

I didn't see you make other arguments so yeah, relying on the piracy argument to defend a platform like OF doesn't work. Like I said piracy has been around for many, many years now and companies have adapted, it's no longer a death sentence anymore like it was theorized. As long as the industry keeps getting hot young girls willing to perform. Piracy won't affect the latter, but a platform that poaches them away will. Porn is nothing without the girls.

Alright then we can pretend that it doesn't happen, lets pretend that many pornstars wether A-list or B-list aren't either leaving porn or using it as a part-time job to promote their true calling: Onlythirstyfans.

Uh yeah, I'm totally like gonna use loansharks and hire lawyers to forcibly stop performers to seek other revenues and see if this can be taken to supreme court. You alright buddy, You wanna sit down?

^^Impressive names mentioned, sure. Which represents what % of performers again, remind me please? Yeah I'm gonna stick to believing that young girls recording with their Iphones, while having sex in an unlit room, is not the mark of a great producer.

^ Whether they're in the minority or not is irrelevant. Your comment read like there was no wiggle room: The are either a performer OR a producer, never the two, no exceptions, no caveats stating you are only talking about those with a crew or a good understanding of production values.

The fact that performers capable of good production exist means more can raise their game. It's certainly not a guarantee that production will improve but it rubbishes the decree that you cannot possibly be a good performer and a good producer.

^You're getting triggered over nothing, this discussion is about performers and their onlyfans accounts and how it compares to professional shot porn, it is well known that it's poorly shot material on those personal porn sites. bringing up those pro producers and industry vets(who to my knowledge aren't into OF, if so could you provide proof or will you be directed to several paywalls before you finally get what you thought you wanted?) is a straw man argument.

This is exactly why I dislike Onlyfans: it's keeping the product a secret and not giving the potential buyer all details about it. I subbed to someone's free Onlyfans (This one), and they found out Onlyfans has the option for paid clips in the feed. Then there are the paid messages as well. I get that some people like to interact with models through messages, but I'm not interested in that, I just want to pay for a scene, so there's very little appeal in Onlyfans for me.

I also have bought through Manyvids, and also Modelhub. I have found many performers who offer high-quality content, because some of them hire directors or get content trade from professionals sites like Spizoo, and many performers have full scenes shot for Spizoo to sell themselves.

I also know that some performers like Skylar Snow, Britney Amber, Lyra Lockhart and Violet Starr have some well-produced content, so not all performers just film five-minute clips with their cellphone to put on their Onlyfans.

Anyway, it looks like models are getting upset with Onlyfans because of something with their tax forms and they aren't able to withdraw their money. Some may be ditching the platform.

^^ Triggered? I'm remarking on you backtracking after being called out on a false absolute declaration. Without the power of clairvoyance, nobody should be expected to assume you are talking about industry vets unless you make it abundantly clear.

The discussion is about whether OF is detrimental to the wider industry where the quality of content and payment structure are part of that discussion. Your apparent failure to provide clarity on what you meant is hardly conducive to discussion despite your attempt to lecture.

I enjoy that you skated past the observation that the porn industry is unarguably less profitable for stars & directors relative to previous generations by a very significant degree (which is literally why stars are opting to find different revenue streams) and simply are relying on "Well it's not completely dead yet!" as some kind of defense. The cause of porn revenues being in significant decline are less important to me than the simple fact that they are. Also, the entirety of your complaining is built on a hypothetical that hasn't even occurred yet. So I'm not entirely sure how you think this is some kind of open and shut thing.

As an aside, this is happening right now and turning into a giant clusterfuck. OnlyFans has a fairly shitty history with payment for such a young platform, but there's a huge audience there so it's hard to dismiss it. As a a performer and a customer, the site is far from perfect but hopefully MFC can turn it around.

This is another case of the "the sky is falling!, the sky is falling!" IMHO, Onlyfans will be a "myspace" of porn, soon to be forgotten when another idea comes along.

I dont see the appeal of Onlyfans from a consumer perspective. Many of the girls charge over 20 dollars a month for very little content and you have no idea what kind of content it will even be most of the time. Can anybody name a single onlyfans page that is worth the monthly cost?

Personally I think Mary Moody has a great content model, one that I mentioned above. Her page is free, with some photos and short videos, and you can get content on an adhoc basis. While I am moving to having a pay site, I think I may also do a "freemium" re-launch of my OnlyFans and basically turn it into a clipstore with the occasional free video. It feels more genuine that way.

I'd also check out:

Karma RX
Violet October
Ashlee Juliet
Lydia Love

I've personally subscribed to Ashlee Juliet and think her feed is worth it but YMMV

Yeah I think this is a big sticking point that a lot of people have with using OnlyFans. They'd win over a lot more people if they gave you an idea of what was in a performer's page before you actually pay the initial subscription. Given that and the other issues that a lot of performers are having in terms of payout timelines I imagine that they'll have to turn it around soon, or be supplanted by a superior product. In terms of accounts worth subscribing to, some really good ones are Alex Coal, Karmen Karma, Angel Long (she has hundreds of videos posted and quite a few of them are full-length scenes). Serene Siren's account doesn't have a huge amount, but the vids she uploads are definitely worth the cost. I've heard Karma Rx's is really good also, though she's not my cup of tea personally.

I'm going to let you in on a not so little secret - Onlyfans isn't exactly immune to piracy, to their material getting stolen. The curse or dark side of technology is that it facilitates grand theft and the sheer volume of people who benefit from this pretty much makes prosecuting anyone for it all but impossible. The idea that Onlyfans is going to help bury studios is ludicrous.

The whole personal and direct messaging thing that all these girls advertise is so shady (not that that's why I join any of these in the first place), but I have suspicions that some of these girls all share the same Social Media assistant. Case in point: I asked a OnlyFans pornstar (KS) about a certain scene that she tweeted about and she immediately shut it down saying she won't discuss other social media accounts on OnlyFans. Now she isn't the first one to tell me this, as another star (AM) has also said the same thing and I mention to KS that "AM or whoever handles her social media" said the same, and KS started throwing an attitude about it saying how I wasn't respecting her and stuff for saying some of these stars don't handle their OnlyFans. Now why would KS be pissed off about me suggesting another starlet doesn't handle her social media unless it's the same person handling both of these OnlyFans accounts? Lots of other cues point to the fact that these aren't the stars: like being on 24/7, worse English than what's evident from their tweets, being confused about sending the right clips, etc.

Personally though, idc who I'm talking to as long as I get what I'm looking for and it's honestly understandable that you would put someone else to handle constantly messaging with a 100+ horny dudes. I'm there for the nudes and the pics and vids, not some personal connection or shit.

https://forum.adultdvdtalk.com/porn-companies-should-pay-better-then

clearly ... not the same subject

'cause ...

i agree with you at 100%

Onlyfans is the best thing that ever happened to porn industry ! (god bless these people)

I'm talking about sex workers who use porn as a springboard

they use pornography as their primary platform ... (1 year or 2) to make a name for themselves, to make themselves known outside their smaller circles of influence

they built a fanbase

then, they are stepping back for the porn industry

"thank you Greg lansky, Mason, Jules Jordan, Pat myne, chris stream, but i don't need you anymore ... i don't want to shoot my first anal for you guys ... i'm famous now ..."

so .. they shoot for their own platform (manyvids, onlyfans, camsoda ...)

I can't tell if you're sarcastic but it doesn't matter. I never understood how some act like they know these people personally and love them as if they're family. Wishing them the best is one thing but the fact is that they're strangers who don't know that you exist, they are providing a product and we have a choice to purchase it, that's it, there's no further connection that you will ever have with pornstars. This new platform hurts the business and therefore the product. Maybe you like the new platform that much, fine, but there's no defense argument of the reasoning that you're so happy for them because you love them so much as if they're your actual friends.
