Mason's gonzo work is outstanding and I always welcome that, I just hope she enjoys shooting some creative narrative scenarios too for variety's sake. IMO she has a great eye for it based on the narrative scenes so far. It's all about creative shots and varied perspectives, not just the "God view" but close-ups of both characters from each others' viewpoints. Honestly I think Mason's style is more interesting than Lansky's, and given Lansky's reliance on formula, there's more opportunity for Mason to stand out IMO. I think Lansky fashions himself as the Stanley Kubrick of porn, obsessing over presenting things with parallax perfection and making every shot look like a Hallmark ad. But I think Lansky forgets that Kubrick also understood the power of handheld and dynamic camera motion. Yes there are iconic scenes in 2001: ASO and The Shining. But don't forget the impact of A Clockwork Orange and Paths of Glory. The tracking shots in Paths of Glory and gritty handheld traversing was so powerful it would influence movies 4 decades later like Saving Private Ryan. Kubrick made great use of various techniques. Update: No sooner than I post this did I catch the Brooke Wylde trailer. This is exactly what I'm talking about. From simple things like how the colors pop, the fruit on the kitchen island, the blue on Rico's shirt, to the core of the scene, the uninhibited banging. As usual, the pounding pulp of the scene is second to none. The passion it evinces is so genuine. That's why I generally prefer Mason's style because when I watch the performers going at it, I don't get the impression that they are being dictated to which is how most of the competition comes across. Consistently the scenes on DarkX feel like the performers enjoying the physical engagement as they would privately. It feels very natural. [Link]
