There has been talk on this board in various threads about porn stars branded for life and can never re-enter decent society.

I think this is hogwash. I think they can re-enter society at any level they choose too. And can get any job they are qualified for with the exception of politics.

Now there was a teacher not too long ago, that was fired for being in porn movies, but someone she knew turned her in for revenge. Even then they were reluctant to take action until she admitted it was her. What are they going to do if you deny it?

Who’s going to go up to mother in the stands at little league game and ask her if she’s a former porn star. Or a lady at your office? Or anywhere else.

We can prove it right now with our porn star contributors. Are you ever recognized as a porn star when you go to the super market, the mall, does civilians ever come up and ask you, if you’re a porn star.

I think porn stars can re-enter decent society because they never left it. I think a girl that comes in and does her job. Leaves porn drug free after making her goals should be proud of herself.

No I'm not a right winger please read the bottom line of my post.

I said
"I think porn stars can re-enter decent society because they never left it. I think a girl that comes in and does her job. Leaves porn drug free after making her goals should be proud of herself".

And I got this question from other threads. Where people were of the opinion porn scared porn girls for life.
That was in my post too, did you read any of my post?

It would be a very sad world if they couldn't. I mean if murderers and rapists can get back into society than why not pornstars?

Does this employ that working in porn is not decent?

I make a decent living out of it, thank you!

I'm amazed at the criticism of the original poster...if the post is read in its entirety, it is obvious that the poster is not criticizing adult performers.

I am also amazed !! Shagdog is asking a legitimate question and he doesn't seem to be judging or criticizing anybody in porn.

I think the question the OP is asking is not whether they can re-enter decent society, but can they re-enter it and be taken seriously?

Getting recognized on the street can probably be annoying, regardless of why you are recognized. I would personally hate it. So that fact alone would make it harder to live a life after porn than if you never did anything on tape.

When your biggest claim to fame is double anal or how many loads you swallowed, and you're walking in the mall with your 4 year old and her father, a "fan" is the last thing you want to see. That's what we mean by re-entering decent society.

I think there's a knee-jerk reaction to the title which poses a question, but the post itself isn't asking that question, but discussing the idea behind it.

As for the idea of porn stars having a stigma that prevents them from entering other lines of work, surely there is (in the US) because, generally, the people that raise a fuss are shortsighted and ignorant. And loud.

Should there be? There's two parts to that question. Ability and morality.

As for ability.. There's nothing about porn that precludes someone from being able to be good at another profession or even becoming a Nobel Prize laureate. It would be no more logical than saying because someone is a doctor, they are incapable of becoming a lawyer.

As for morality.. Everyone's morals are different to state the obvious. There are folks that think porn is wrong or it is to some degree, there are folks that don't. There may also be a lot of people that are afraid to argue for porn; they may not think porn is wrong or that porn stars shouldn't teach their children, but they are afraid to speak out and say that. Together, as a community, that determines what might look bad.

Why does morality figure in? Morality clauses in contracts for employment. That teacher probably signed a contract and it was deemed that that clause was violated. Those clauses are there to protect the employer from someone doing something that isn't technically illegal, but makes the employer look bad. And as for what "looks bad" it would depend on the community. (it might look bad in a very conservative town for a married couple to kiss in a park, for instance, which to many sounds ludicrous)

Ah, recognition in a situation like that is different than the teacher mentioned by the original post.

For that, I would think the person coming up is certainly without tact and does not require a response that has.

Furthermore, does porn mean you've essentially shown your boobs to the world? Sure. Does it mean you're forever in the public domain? Not at all.

Saying all that doesn't mean some freak isn't going to wander up in the mall and ask some terribly rude and insensitive question, but nothing says you'll never have some freak wander up in the mall and expose himself, either.

I personally don't think that anyone should want to be part of a society that shuns them unless they behave exactly as that society would have them behave. All that does is validates and legitimizes bullying people into compliance with unwritten rules and regulations.

Society can't (yet) make official laws banning porn and preventing people from participating in porn so it castigates and ostracizes them after the fact in any and every way that it legally can. When someone goes into something like porn as a career, they're giving society the finger, basically. If they then come out of porn and "apologize" to society and do everything they can to play nice, they're essentially letting the moralists win and reinforcing their belief that they can bully people into compliance with their wishes if they fuck with their heads in enough ways to confuse them.

"Decent society" isn't worth the sweat off my balls.

I own my own cosmetics business and as such make use of models for many of the products we manufacture. On at least two different occasions, I've hired former porn star models to do "body part" modeling for our firm (well actually my wife hired them, that's her job). They were pretty enough to be used for "full body" modeling work but we didn't need that...one was a hand model, the other an eye model. Both models were pretty much fully employed doing a variety of modeling, voice over and other types of work. One did non-nude fitness and swimsuit modeling, the other just did "body work" but that was her choice. She felt she was too recognizeable and didn't want to place undue burdens on a company who suddenly found themselves associated with a former porn star (unknown to them at the time). Actually, I find that kind of behavior EXTREMELY refreshing and very professional. I wish my lawyers had that kind of work ethic lol.

At any rate, i think beautiful people can always find work in a variety of industries, porn is just one of them. In fact, beautiful people have a MUCH HIGHER CHANCE of finding gainful employment than do those individuals not so well blessed with attractive looks....that's the nature of our society, although we talk much about "merit" and such. It really boils down to a) do you look good enough to get attention and b) do you have a brain and can contribute. Many porn stars are entrepreneurial, learning how to effectively market themselves and successfully navigate the crowded market to create a "brand of one." That takes talent....and it's just as important outside of the porn world as it inside the porn world. Mia Rose is a great example of a self-marketer who truly understands branding, marketing and the importance of distribution. The girls who come on and do 500 scenes in 2 years are the ones who concern me....that's oversaturation by anyone's measure.

Societal values are far more forgiving now than they used to be. 25 years ago, being divorced was a stigma. Now it's the norm. If Jesse and Arnold can be governors, I think you can even say that porn stars could be politicians in another decade or so.

There is more than enough work available for those with the talent and drive to deliver it. The good performers will be banking their funds now to help establish themselves not as someone elses' future "employee" but as business owners/leaders themselves. Who the hell wants to work for someone else for the rest of their non-porn life anyways? And in a world where you are your own boss.....screw "da man" :P

By the way, I'm not sure which teach you were referring to in your OP, but if it was the one in the news most recently, what really got her into trouble was not shooting porn in the first place....but lying about her involvement in same repeatedly when questioned about it. Frankly, I find lying the mistake she made, not the porn. I understand WHY she lied, but given that the internet basically means "forever" these days, that was just plain stupid on her part. You can lie about something all you want but it's still lying.....the truth will eventually come out.

Shagdog, i agree with you.

what complicates this is that there are porn consumers who don't want this to be true.

they want to feel morally superior to the girls they jerk over. they want the girls to be shamed

for these consumers, part of what's arousing about porn is the idea that the female performers are being ruined and must live in disgrace, filled with misery and regret

to me, it's a pathetic attitude, born of resentment toward women and a fundamental alienation about sexuality. but i find it's all too common among modern porn consumers

I once worked as a truck driver for one year in my youth. Someone brought a stack of men's magazines to the garage.
The county commissioner was looking thru them and obviously enjoying the experience but said "What kind of people would pose for pictures like this." I then said "What kind of people would look at pictures like this." People in the adult industry are no better or worse than the best of us. They provide a valuable service and I thank them for it.

Yeah, in my opinion some of them can. Being a porn actress is a legit job.

On the other hand from my experience vast majority of porn starlets perfectly fit the pattern of "dumb slutty porn star". For those, the career opportunities outside the adult industry are probably limited.

Well we are seeing more cases of girls doing good after porn, either in the media spotlight or in business. So that is a sign of progress, and it will get even better i think.

The fact that Paris Hilton and the other celebrities that were "caught" doing nasty things on tape, do not get shunned nor get special treatment is also a good sign.

Becoming a celebrity is not the same thing as re-entering society. Not that Paris Hilton was ever in what would be considered normal day to day society, I would be very hard pressed to find someone who has ever had more special treatment than she has.

I would imagine the ones that have had the most success at re-entering society (Bad phrase, no one really ever leaves society unless they are living in a cave somewhere. The actual inferance here is too a certain section or level of society but this is just semantics) would be the ones that people ask whatever happen to so and so.

well yes. I think its sorta a stupid question in this day and age the industry has come a long way from girls getting into it and having nothing to show for it. Haven't had many suicides and drug overdoses have been low. some do it to pay for school to acheive a higher goal some do it to have money to live and start a business. what makes this society so decent any ways??? its not decent. its shit. but we make the best of it so why not them? Some even have families to tend to and some you wouldn't recognize walking down the street.

LOL! Jacco I love you(and that avatar) :0) In answer to the question......Yes it possible for them to re-enter "regular" society. Why would you want to? I bait people in "decent" society all the time when they ask me what I do for a living. I give them two pieces of carefully chosen information just to see the response. 90% of the time it's the same. Here's how it goes...

Decent person says "So what do you do for a living"

I say " I work for Playboy TV"(at this point if they respond well to PBTV, I give them the whole enchiliada)

Decent person says "Oh................well that's interesting.........chirp.....chirp......chirp" LOL!

I say "And I grew up in a minister's home"

Decent persona says "Wow! That's great. What church? Is he still preaching to his congregation? You must be really proud....blah,blah,blah"

At that point when the diarrea of the mouth kicks in a couple of things run though my head.
1. Why would I want to be part of such a superficial society when I can make more money on the net and have a support system of "real" friends.
2. Do they know how they sound when talking to people with untraditional backgrounds?
3. I found a place where I am happy, I live well and I must find the patience to forgive their ignorance. It's okay with me.

Part of it is where you live right now, imak.

If you were in L.A., San Francisco, New York, or Chicago, to name a few places, the reaction would be somewhat different.

I’m sorry for your situation imak. I’m not familiar with your story or or your url. Are you talent?

I still think I’m right. This is a big country with 300 million people. There are sections in every city that tolerance and acceptance is the rule.

Of course there are also sections where intolerance and exclusion is the rule.

There are even small towns where tolerance and acceptance is practiced.

No one is accepted everywhere. No one can work at every place.

But I think people can find a good home and a job. And be reasonable happy.

I hope you and your kids are happy and successful.

I think the "decent" is very ironic, or ? (twinkle)

To be honest, I doubt it. At least in a society that is so
hypocrite - or should I say hypocrypticial - with sex than the USA.
In Italy, a porn actress could be a politician. This is also possible in Denmark, and may be in a few more countries. I dont think in my native country NL anymore.
For 5 years, there is an anti porno campaign, not by the people, but by some right wing and "christian" politicans.
They dominate the "public opinion". And the rest...is silent.

Yes, there are always liberal and friendly people respecting the starlets. But if someone wants to hurt you,
your porn career is always a target point.

What's the problem, at least here in Europe, you can fit into society. What is normal and what is not? Who shall we include and who's not to be? I mean, does anybody really care? I am sure that 50% of all Republicans and Democrats are secretly perverts. Enjoy diversity, and celebrate life, from the smallest ant to the fattest pornstar!
