I moved this discussion from "How does a girl become successful in porn?" I moved two post here too. Drug Testing in porn Agree? Disagree? Or Are drugs a problem?
I'm for drug testing in porn. Drug use should be a requirement and by God they should be able to prove it!

I don't think an employer should have the right to control an employee's free time. As long as the employee performs on the job that's all the employer needs to know.
I dunno Mike. I see where you're coming from but if you're allowing fake tits, labiaplasty, collagen injections and nosejobs how can you deny the men viagra and caverject?
Do you view these in the same category as heron and meth. If you do please explain. And while your at it. Is the drug addicted girl vital to porn. Edited by - Shagdog on 2/10/2008 6:50:07 PM
I have to support the as long as an employee performs their given task their free time shouldn't be under scrutiny. Yes this battle has been lost in many places and in many places it should have been lost but that's no reason to take the defeatist attitude into other things. Porn is a unique job anyway and as a results needs unique rules.
The fact is drugs do interfere with every part of your life. And every employer in the US is free to make drug testing a condition of employment. Answer the question do you think porn can survive without drug addicted girls.
I would be for mental health evaluations for those under 25. Making sure they know what they are getting into and are capable of dealing with the realities.
God, i have to hear about drug testing everyday on ESPN with athletes, now it has made its way over to my favorite message board. i don't use drugs, i don't advocate drugs, but it seems like drugs and porn have gone hand in hand since the beginning. i doubt it would change anything if you did or did not test. Checking for STDs is far more important.

I read the subject line and was all ready to make exactly the same suggestion.
Honestly I doubt it. Drugs interfere with every part of your life. So does being in love, or having a fight with your lover, or alcohol. Come off the high horse. If a girl passes the STD test, shows up on time and fucks her brains out it's cool. I don't see the issue. It's not like driving a truck where regular drug tests are administered and rightly so. You can kill a lot of people with an 18 wheeler. It's not like being a cop where if you're a junkie who knows what other crooked things you're into that could damage your integrity. I can go on and on. The fact that employers CAN do something has nothing do with if they should be allowed to do something. If no solid reason can be given for why drugs would be damaging to your bussiness (and honestly you could catch all into, they won't show up on time) then fine if not you shouldn't be allowed. Right now the government CAN tap into any conversation they want, without a warrant. Are you going to tell me that because they legally have this ability that we should shrug or should we be trying our best to get people into office who will change these things?
Great idea, this would force the porn talent to choose between drugs and porn (if they can afford their drug habbit without doing porn). As a consumer it would be good knowing the talent are not on heavy drugs.
Your rational is completely irrational. Honestly, I think you're one of those guys that has that view of pornstars... like they should be put up on some special peddle stool and not be allowed to do things that "you" feel are detrimental to their image... like using drugs, escorting, etc. Why not try to impliment mandatory drug testing for Hollywood actors? Shouldn't they be placed on the peddle stool too?
So much JONDRA, so little time. Actually mainstream actors are drug tested, poked and prodded. Insurance companies won't underwrite mainstream productions without drawing fluids from performers. Naturally some fail, and their rates are correspondingly higher.
LOL you're kidding right? I'm all for testing athletes, schoolbus drivers and the guy that presses the red button that sends a dozen nuclear bombs towards Russia. But pornstars, rappers, etc. NO. That's just funny.
Oh yea I forgot look at the amazing things drugs did for Keith Ledgers, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Lindsay Lohan, and before them John Belushi, Kurt Cobain , Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and porns on Haley Page. cobalt60 I think the artist would be a live.
Quasar: I'm still laughing from your post. I'm with the majority here. Just because we can do it doesn't mean we should do it. Waaay too many companies/industries drug test these days for jobs that shouldn't require it. The direction we're going is more and more loss of liberties. And this is just another nail on the porn industry's casket. The increasingly infecting laws and law enforcement hassles, the whole employee/workman's comp thing, now this debate. What's next? And then there's the double standard with alcohol I've never come to terms with. If you get drunk Friday night and show up for work Monday and do your job, well, that's fiiiiine. But if you smoke a joint Friday night and show up for work Monday and do your job and they have you pee in a cup mid-morning and you fail, you get fired. And...last thing, I swear...if you're an alcoholic you need help. If you're strung out on drugs, you need to get the fuck out of here. I'm just sayin'. I don't really have an opinion on the subject, one way or the other.
Drug-testing in porn will completely change the course of your standard squirting scene. Instead of 'Squirt in my gape' we'll have 'Squirt in my Specimen Jar.' Pissing films won't be titillating, they'll become documentary footage. Instead of titles like 'Squirteen' we'll have 'The Testing Process.' Jenna Jameson will be found to have taken performance enhancing implants and will need to return her AVN awards.
Double checked all druggies all died from drugs. Except Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Lindsay Lohan who will die if they continue to do drugs. If drugs were so great for them Whitney Houston should be biggest star ever. Why was Amy Winehouse boo off the stage for being fucked up. Drugs didn't make these careers Drugs ended these careers The idea that anyone or any industry needs drugs is insane. Edited by - Shagdog on 2/11/2008 8:57:41 AM
+1 That's my stand on this issue in any field. And if they want to do that, then why not go out and investigate everything in a person's life and give them breathalizers at the door, too?
no we aren't that's my point, unless he also said this? in which case we are all in agreement and you can stop your hysterical laughing? Edited by - dead horse on 2/11/2008 10:07:14 AM
Don't care but if I have to answer, I disagree. I don't believe drugs impair the ability of a porn performer to do their job. And in fact, may enhance their performance (depending on the drug). Drug testing makes sense for commercial airline pilots and truck drivers. There's no reason a porn performer can't be a little high. The only issue, really, is that it gives the anti porners something else to whine about (Not that they ever needed anything to whine about). Never mind that it's BS. Those who buy their arguments are the same people who believe the universe will end if weed (for instance) isn't wiped out. I have no problem stating that I'm not in favor of meth. But I do think that a porn performer shouldn't need to prove they aren't high unless the company they're working for insists that performers not be high. That's their right, I suppose.

RandomPrecision We have agreed a lot in the past, but do you really think the crack heads and heron addicts have this great sex life. They're so horny they have to go out on the street and turn tricks?

I refuse to watch a porn scene if the girl looks fucked up on alcohol or drugs. I'm not talking about pot, but I remember times seeing a girl get fucked up on whatever to loosen up her inhibitions. I don't want a girl to have to loosen up. I'd hope she's cool with doing what she's doing even if she were sober. I don't need drug testing to be able to tell if a girl is seriously fucked up. If she got high the night before and she comes to set with a clear head, ready to do her thing, that's what I need.
I have no idea. Never tried heroin or crack. I merely said that some drugs do appear to enhance the performance of some porn stars. It does seem to depend on what the drug is, how much they've used and the person in question. If it doesn't hurt their performance, I don't see the point of requiring they be drug free, other than just moral grandstanding. In the case of weed, I know from personal experience that sex can be infinitely more pleasurable after having a few tokes. But weed is a lot softer than something like heroin or crack. I don't know much about them except that I have no desire to use them myself. I don't care if other people do. If studios don't want performers to be high during scenes, I can understand that. But the thing with drug testing is that I don't think it's nuanced enough to be able to tell whether or not the person being tested has used anything recently. If it was three weeks ago, why does it matter? It's probably not going to kill their performance unless they took something really hardcore and it fucked up their mind permanently.

I was asked to explain so I will I think if you have to do drugs to be in this business you have no business in this business I dont allow drugs or alcohol on a set, if the girl appears fucked up she goes home and doesnt come back. Its a legal move as well, if she is impaired when she signs that model release the release is null and void, under a legal precedent known as diminished capacity. And the same holds true for the guys...if you are 40 years old and have to use Viagra to get your dick hard for thesae girls...thats Gods way of telling you you dont belong in this biz, or maybe that you are gay. As a purely protective measure for the industry look at the headaches we'd avoid if everyone in the biz used the same screening I do. No Shelly Lubbens, no more kristineyes etc. These are my choices for doing business and they work for me, as a Libertarian I don't think anyone should be drug tested but if you are gonna do it...do it and include all substance abuse.
First of all a positive drug test doesn’t have mean a performer has to be suspended or banned from the industry. Why should the porn industry care about drugs in the industry? The same reason other industry care money. The porn industry belongs to the porn agents and porn producers not some girl from Kansas that comes to town for 3 months. But that girl from Kansas is the face of YOUR industry. If she goes back home with a new car and money other girls will follow. But if you send her home addicted to drugs, with a blown out asshole and no money. She will not say, " It's my fault I blew all my money" “I was a drug whore” but she will blame the porn industry (YOUR industry) to anyone that will listen. See Shelly Lubbens and the crusaders. As for drug testing. These girl are all ready being tested once a month. Why not include drugs. The risk of an intravenous drug user to the industry is great. As is the risky sexual behaver of drug users. AIM is already set up to do counseling. Sharon Mitchel is an ex drug user. AIM should be set for drug testing and counseling as well. Don't you think it would benefit the other performers to know the extent of their co-worker drug use? In the days past porn was stuck with any girl willing to fuck on camera. That is not the case today. With testing and it on they're test results other performer and producers would know what they were dealing with. The drug testing along with drug counseling could save someone from addiction and death. Porn producers and agents should make reasonable efforts to get these girls back to Kansas clean and sober with a new car and money in their pockets if possible. Being a nurse I see way too many results from overdoses. Not just the individual but their children. I don't know how many times I've had my heart broken when I wind up having to turn some beautiful little child over to social services because mommie and/or daddy are all F'D up on drugs. Sex is a great drug for me, I don't need another chemical to mess it up. But, while porn is a business, it's not like going to work at Lowe's or McD's or IBM or driving an 18 wheeler. From what I have read here you already have Cal-OSHA sticking their nose into how to screw on camera. Drug testing seems to make no sense in porn, but from what I have seen in my everyday job, it's a very mixed feeling.
