Does anyone know where to get some decent DVD players which does Ntsc to PAL conversion? Dixons don't have any and Argos only sells two models. Is there anywhere else with a wider selection?

I'm in the process of buying a DVD player for my Brother this Christmas. I tend to buy online, however there are a few highstreet stores I would consider.
Check out some of these links

Richer sounds: Very competively priced. They also price match a number of other stores and online shops!

Amazon.co.uk: They have some great reviews and are very reliable. Check out the

Toshiba SD330E Multi-region DVD PlayerBTW....good machine at a low price!

Finally, I use Price guide UK alot when comparing prices of the various on line stores.

If I were you, on-line, I'd buy from 'amazon'. From a high street store, I'd recommend Richer sounds.

Good luck in your search mate. I know...so much to choose from.

Depending on your graphics card.....

If you can do TV out then whan you want is almost any PC DVD-ROM player. Because even if you buy it in Britian and it's default is *region whatever only*, you can crack it (if you, like me are one of them unethical type people). For around US$50.00 you can get a DVD player which you can easily make play whatever you want.

you should be able to find info on this sort of thing yourself, because (legally) from me this is purely speculation.

hey, it was just an idea

Have a look for a PowerPoint/Woon Model 838Y if you can find one. Plays any region dvd with no hack codes needed and outputs a PAL signal from NTSC discs. Saw some locally, here in Ireland for as little as €109, so look around. Deadly little player. Even bypasses ALL OUTPUT problems , straight out of the box. Have a look here.

When a DVD player says it converts from NTSC to PAL does that mean if you hook it up to a VCR with a scart you will be able to tape from an NTSC disc or does it only allow you to watch an NTSC on a TV ?

thanks

Some DVD players will output NTSC in true PAL (PAL 50) and these can be backed up onto VHS. Some players output in PAL 60 (Pseudo PAL) which allows an NTSC film to be viewed on a PAL only TV. You cannot record a PAL 60 signal on your standard PAL VCR though.

I have a Diamond DVD302. This is a Chinese model which I bought about 2 years ago. It does NTSC to PAL conversion, and can also be set to be region free. Quality and image are fine when I watch US NTSC discs with my PAL TV.

I expect this particular model is probably no longer made, but it may be worth your time to check out the more recent players from Diamond.

Have you had a look at Techtronics?

They sell chipped players @ pretty much the price charged by the high street for the standard item.

Lots of other useful info on their site too.
