Being lazy I figured I would open it up to everyone to submit contributions that I can cut/paste into a new document. Any takers? Things to cover: forgot your password, avatar uploading, image uploads, profile settings, private message system settings, PM system preferences, forum code. I'm sure there's more. I know some of this stuff exists here already in random posts but I have no idea where. [Link] |

It is Visible at all times in the Forums. Clicking on this opens a new screen called Search form. There are three sections: The upper section uses ADT's internal search routines. Well below that there are two more search boxes which use Google to do the heavy lifting: the upper one only searches the Forums, the bottommost searches the entire site. The following describes the use the upper portion, which uses ADT's internal Search routines. At the top is the Search For box. Type in the word or words you wish to search on. Below this are three radio buttons: "Search for all Words", "Match any of the words," "Look for this phrase." Choose the one that fits what you want to do. Putting phrases in quotations won't matter: choose "look for this phrase." In reality it is best not to use "Match Any of the words" because it doesn't really work. It is best to search one word at a time. It is also best to search for an entire word, not just part of a word. "Masturbate" will only hit on "masturbate," not "masturbating" or "masturbates" or "masturbated." Wildcards ("masturbate*") will not work at all. The checkbox "Only Search in Topic Titles" limits the search accordingly. Otherwise the full body of the thread will be searched. The Search Forum box allows you to choose which forum to search. "All Forums" searches the entire group, otherwise you can only choose a single forum. You cannot choose multiple forums at a single time. The Search Date box sets the time period. Actual dates are not allowed. Finally, search by Member allows you to find posts by a single member. You can use this with or without key words to help limit your search; if you leave the search term blank at the top, you'll get a list of all posts by the member name. If you specify a term, it'll fetch all posts by that member containing that word. Results are displayed as a list of posts by forum thread, which can then be clicked-on to read. The link goes directly to the post within that forum thread. [Link] |

(I think that lots of newbies who claim that they searched for, but couldn't find something, and are actually not lying about that, are not seeing the Search link over on the right at all, and are just using the box. The resulting search results page doesn't offer any way to modify the search, so they may conclude that that is the extent of the site's search functionality. There should be a link right under the search box -- something like "advanced search" -- that leads to the search form.) [Link] |

That implies the site is not able to recognize you as being logged into the profile you are attempting to edit. This can be a cookie issue if your browser is not accepting our cookies.
