| Drew Black broken crankshaft 8009 Posts 9/99 | I was spoiled with unlimited data. I would stream Pandora constantly and use it as a hotspot to browse the web and work from anywhere. I was concerned I wouldn't be able to easily adapt to being data-conscious. I was wrong. It was easy. I used just under 1GB of mobile data on Fi in my first month and didn't miss the convenience of always-on data everywhere. I stopped streaming over mobile networks, disabled background data for all apps that weren't absolutely necessary, and removed Facebook from my phone. The phone service quality is generally as good as Verizon's service but I do occasionally have calls where the person on the other end of the call complains that they hear their own voice echoing. This echo problem is random. Data coverage has been good for our area. Fi uses T-Mobile and Sprint's cellular networks in the USA. If you have LTE coverage on these networks in your area you'll likely love Fi. I only have 3G coverage here in rural Maine but that's good enough for me considering I'm saving about $100/month vs. what I was paying at Verizon. Yes, I could have switched my Verizon plan and dumped the unlimited data for a more apples-apples comparison of average monthly costs. But Verizon doesn't have a flat $10/GB billing model and they don't credit you for unused data. With Fi I can tether my computer when I want and simply pay for the data I use at the normal billing rate. If you go over your limits with Verizon they rape your ass like a horny ape. I'll continue with Fi for another 2 months before I decide to let Verizon go. Fi is still in Beta stage. It's not perfect but it's good enough for my needs. |
