It, apparently, came from Legal Porno. The email thanks me for registering an account with them, and includes a Login name and password. There are at least three things wrong with this: (1) I have never visited the Legal Porno website (2) I have never created/registered for an account with Legal Porno (3) The Login name and password they sent in the scam email are, in fact, the same Login name and password I have actually used for two other porn websites This leaves us with several distinct possibilities: (a) One of the websites where I used the Login name and password is part of the scam (b) One of the websites where I used the Login name and password has been hacked (c) My computer and/or email client (Outlook) has been hacked I immediately checked my credit card account, and no unauthorized charges appear on the account. The scam email, of course, included the message "If you didn't register on our site, please click on the following link to disable the account {link}". Needless to say, I'm too smart to get tricked into clicking on any such thing. Any thoughts? [Link] |

I've never had anything to do with Legal Porno; Never having even visited their website. Ever. YET, the Login and Password in the scam email are identical to ones I used on two different membership sites that I have belonged to. I've used the same Login/Password combination on two different porn sites that, to the best of my knowledge, have nothing to do with Legal Porno. On one of the sites I let the membership expire well over a month ago. So, this leaves me with one current membership site -- Brazzers -- that uses this Login and Password combination. And, I hadn't been there for the past 3-4 weeks (as I have been active on other sites -- with altogether different logins and passwords -- that I belong to). Now, I don't believe it a coincidence that immediately after I visited (i.e. and logged into) Brazzers, for the first time in 3-4 weeks, this scam email from Legal Porno shows up within a matter of a few hours. And, with the same Login and Password that I use for Brazzers. But, who is the culprit here? I can't believe that Brazzers would be signing me up for Legal Porno? Someone has clearly intercepted my login with Brazzers and/or hacked into my account with Brazzers. (I've never disclosed or shared my Login/Password information with anyone). Is that someone Legal Porno? Is Brazzers storing information in an unsafe and/or unprotected manner? Is a 3rd-party scamming both Brazzers and Legal Porno in their attempt to scam me? And, why Legal Porno? Why is hack attempt involving Legal Porno in an attempt to get me to click on the link and, presumably, disclose personal and financial information? Hell, maybe all they need is for me just to click on the link just to confirm my email and/or the link is spring-loaded to make it look like I am actually authorizing whatever nefarious scam they have waiting for me?In any event, this scam really caught my attention, and I believe our little community should be made aware that "something" may be going on, and everyone needs to keep their eyes open and wits about them. | ninja1 Senior Member 2939 Posts 1/08 | Posted - May 26 2016 : 1:30PM The least nefarious scenario I can think of here is: The site with expired membership "shared" your expired credentials with LP. The LP membership is just a free membership to the free parts of their site; in the hopes that if you spend time on their forums etc, you will be enticed to eventually spend money on their products. So, it is a backdoor promotional/marketing thing rather than an underhanded scam/phishing thing to steal your info. But it's still shady for any site to share your credentials with another site. Here's why The other site (a) had an issue where my credentials no longer worked, and (b) created an altogether different set of credentials, so that I could access the site again for the remainder of my membership term. In other words, when I left that site my credentials (which were originally the same as my Brazzers credentials, and the ones used in the scam email) no longer existed as my credentials on that site. I'm 99 and 44/100ths percent convinced that the problem originates with Brazzers. I'm thinking "Heartbleed," and that their site has security issues. And, as I previously posted... [Link] |
