You are right. I should be clearer.

I mean could you be happy as a bachelor with porn or would you rather have the real thing and be married.

I will edit the original post shortly. Thanks.

This question is easy for me, I would much rather (and already do have) the real thing. Years ago porn was fine but its all fantasy. Are the women hot? Yes, but having a woman to satisfy your sexual needs is one million times better than being a bachelor getting off on porn. My wife (well we are getting married next year but we are engaged and call each other husband and wife) is the total package...she is gorgeous and has a better rack (40DD) than any pornstar plus she has the sexiest bush (if you are into that, I am). We have sex at least three times a week, sometimes more and its always fire plus when we dont have sex and she isn't home I have an endless amount of nude pics of her plus videos.

Why does marriage have to be part of the deal? Why is there an apparent assumption women see marriage as the end game for relationships with men when many hetero women either have no aspirations of marriage or reject it entirely?

I watch porn and I have casual sex on a semi-regular basis (Covid has put a damper on the latter) with women. I have to say for myself that porn can't be a fulfilling substitute for a woman whose intimate company you appreciate.

Is there a particular reason you don't point out that while some women may be more picky, they are much more open in exploring their sexuality with a man they connect with and they may also be more open to approaching a man who appeals to them?

All I did was offer two of many possible choices and then ask which one you would prefer.

No doubt there are multifarious alternatives!

Considering the MGTOWs have only been around for 50 years, people are just making assumptions that these great minds would have identified as such. And personally, I don't think any group that lessens women is filled with great minds.

I have always been a bachelor, so I have no experience with marriage.
I really can't give a reasonable answer without having experienced both, in my view.
This is the principal reason I asked this question, for a little edification. lol

The implication that marriage is about sex is badly flawed. Aside from that, nobody has an intimate relationship with their porn collection.

Being clearer is something you've had a tendency of not doing. You provided two options with no obvious recognition of grey areas until you were questioned on it. I opt for my own choices as neither of those you gave appeal.

_________________________________________

I don't agree with your definition of MGTOW. Frankly, I would say you are way off the mark in your understanding of it. As I think Flash alluded to, feminist movements, particularly those since the 1950s are the undeniable basis of MGTOW. To say MGTOW is about carving your own way in is a pretty grievous oversimplification, if not plain inaccurate. The movement is a denunciation of feminism and an avoidance of putting oneself in a position where perceived gender bias favouring women puts men at the shit end of the deal when it comes to custody of children or the distribution of wealth and assets when a marriage or domestic partnership comes to an end.

The notion of Newton being a MGTOW merely because of his reported voluntary celibacy sounds like nothing but a false equivalent because the circumstances and basis of MGTOW's "philosophy" simply did not exist in Newton's lifetime. I would say the same on your labelling of Da Vinci just because he didn't marry.

Just because a MGTOW member rejects marriage or any relationship where he believes he stands to lose more than the woman, it doesn't mean all men who avoid marriage/relationships are MGTOW.

All cars that run on gasoline have internal combustion engines but it would be patently absurd to say all internal combustion engines run on gasoline.

Interesting topic. I have been married for 3 years but we've been together for 12 years now. Sex in the beginning was non-stop and anywhere we could do it. But as years passed by the frequency of our sex has reduced somewhat for a number of reasons that are not the subject of this post. However, porn has always been there to provide me with some degree of "relief", so to speak. I don't cheat on my wife AT ALL (unless fapping to porn counts! lol) so porn is really my vent valve.

Funilly enough we had just ended a very long "draught" with a hot session of anal today. Being on vacation at the beach house (with absolutely no one around as we're socially distancing) and with her stress levels "regulated" the fire is still there, thankfully. She's fully aware of my thing with porn and will even watch some lesbian porn.

So my short answer is - you can have both!

OK. So, to summarize, a man who went his own way before the term MGTOW appeared would not in your view be considered a MGTOW if his choice was not related to the current "women can do no wrong" environment, even though he was still going his own way?

Well obviously not. MGTOW is indelibly rooted in anti-feminist sentiment. The fact that you spelt it in capitals is an acknowledgement of it being a proper noun from a grammatical standpoint, in this case being indicative of an organization. MGTOW's core narrative that feminism screws men over in relationships renders personal definitions of "MGTOW" that do not denounce or reject feminism not to be MGTOW. I don't think Voltaire will help you on this.

I refuse to marry and I've been called "unorthodox" for going about things my own way but does that qualify me as MGTOW? Not a chance. I may have openly advocated for men's rights in other topics but that is purely based on wanting equal responsibility that should come with equal rights.

Thanks. Good points. Maybe a pseudo-organization at most when translated to the actual individuals.

I don't think Voltaire can help anyone with this, but he was a Capital fellow!

I had to look up what MGTOW meant, though there is some further discussion I hadn't gotten to that gets into that a bit.

A few responses to the thread...

* There are a lot-lot-lot of troubling assumptions from the get-go with this topic. Most of them fall under the very big umbrella of relationship structures, from marital status to sexual orientation to points in between. Another is the rhetorical equivocation of an inanimate, objectifying, non-personal form of entertainment with another human-fucking-being.

* While not necessarily required, it's common to capitalize acronyms, whether they're official organizations or not.

* I strongly reject the idea that there is a "current 'women can do no wrong' environment," and the very notion strikes me as inherently hostile and potentially violent toward women.

* I have a hard time understanding how the choice between porn and a real life partner could be remotely challenging for anyone who has experienced both, but I'm open to listening to explanations.

* Most of my fetishes/fantasies existed in some form before I had someone to explore them with in real life. I was jerking off waaaaay before I had sex with another person. Masturbation also helps people get to know themselves, which is a pretty important prerequisite to communication and confidence with a partner. To this day, married 26 years next week, there are times when a quick, porn-assisted wank is more fitting the energy and time I have. There is more work involved with a partner because their needs matter, too, from emotional connection to sexual satisfaction, etc. But ultimately, hands-down (get it? "hands-down"?), sex with a partner is way, way, way, way better.

Nobody disputed this. The disagreement was on the definition of MGTOW, not the qualifying criteria of an acronym.

^ That is a classic case of wading in and responding without having seen the OP's posts before they were edited so you failed to gather the original context.

The OP originally defined MGTOW on his own terms and not those aligned to the anti-feminist rhetoric. The counterargument stated that MGTOW is an organization so if the OP acknowledges that MGTOW is an organization, an opinion-based definition doesn't hold much up to the fact-based definition of what MGTOW stands for. When you first responded, the fact that only I seemed to refer to Newton and Da Vinci without context should surely have hinted to you that something was amiss - the OP claimed Newton and Da Vinci were pioneers of the movement but because he removed those statements when he edited his post weeks before your response, you missed that among other things.

The same guy who can tell someone else that "being clearer is something [they]'ve had a tendency of not doing" (not to mention saying it like that)is the same guy who waits until his second response to mention edits.

I guess I failed by overestimating the ability of such a tough talker to handle a tiny point of information about acronym use.

^ I overestimated your capacity to read and see OP's posts were edited and that responses appeared out of context. The fact that the posts were edited isn't hidden from you. That's on you not to have spotted it - go ahead and waste your time telling yourself otherwise.

I was clear in saying acronym usage wasn't relevant to the dispute but you insisted on pushing a narrative to the contrary without the facts of the situation. It's not my fault you got it wrong or that you failed to establish context and you had ample opportunity to ask for information since the thread went dormant for 3 months.

You called it incorrectly. A grown-ass adult such as yourself should be able to take that on the chin, learn and move on.

Y'know, I thought my tiny tidbit of correct info about acronyms was the least interesting of the 5 things I mentioned, but it really seems to bother you. You should probably focus more on your own quivering chin. Your overly sensitive bully character just doesn't do it for me.

^ Is there an obligation for anyone to "do it" for you? What I took exception to was your wilful attempt to misrepresent what I said in response to the OP.

It's curious that you've made more effort in portraying me as a bully than in acknowledging you missed details that were lying in plain sight that exposed your false narrative of the debate. Before you go straw man again, the missed details are the fact that the OP's posts were edited, not the original content of them.

Wait: Was I WILLFULLY attempting to misrepresent you with a false narrative, or did I FAILFAILINCOMPETENCEFAIL to assume the best and give you all the benefits of all the doubts you feel entitled to based on edits someone else made?

If referencing other things you've said in this very thread portrays you as a bully and hypocrite, it sure hasn't taken any effort and it's not a me problem.

How much longer do you want to obsess about acronyms and edits, and defend your fragile ego, instead of discussing anything related to the purpose of this thread that had been dormant for oh-so long?

^ I'm a hypocrite? If that's the case, what does that make you for pushing something irrelevant to the discussion a second time despite having been advised of its lack of relevance only to ask me to speak on something relevant. You can't claim the virtuous high ground on relevant discussion when your "tidbit" wasn't relevant.

Good lord this thread took a turn. Anyway, this is my first thought too:
Supports the argument about whatever that acronym is being anti-feminist and anti-woman (genuinely never heard of it but from what I found on google, it's a new manifestation of incels. Yawn.)

Had to look it up: Men Sent Their Own Way. Best I can figure in the brief period of time it held my interest, it's a way of distinguishing incels from healthy dude's who just aren't interested, or of insulting guys who are pretending it was their choice.

Nowhere near as much fun as trying to figure out who an actress from a still is.

Hi,

I am the OP and have not been following this topic for a few months.

Things have gotten even more intense, it seems, in some of the posts.

So I have finally crawled out of my place of hiding and am trying to look at things here with fresh eyes.

First thing I realize is that I have asked two questions that don't quite line up. My apologies.

Q 1: Is Porn an adequate substitute for a Wife? This is not quite the same thing as saying, in the topic itself,

Q 2: Would you rather be a Celibate Bachelor + Porn or a Married Man + Sex

As Jacques_Doh2 has said,

Agree with you fully, Jacques.

What I really wanted to get at, in Q 2, is this: from a Costs/Benefits standpoint, which of these two lifestyles would you prefer, if you had to choose? I am thinking how much more free time a Celibate Bachelor would have to explore the world, and maybe lead a more contemplative lifestyle, although missing out on intimacy. Something along the lines of a Tesla. The Married Man will have intimacy, but will probably experience a host of obligations that prevent him from having a chance to again put into action that wunderlust that most boys are born with.

As a loner bachelor, I would rather make the mistake of being overly alone than make the mistake of being overly married, in the sense that changing the latter situation involves at least one other person as well.

My history is very different from others. I studied hard to get university degrees in biology and botany, but would have much rather wandered in the woods. In my 20s I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and spent another roughly 20 years mostly lying in bed in my room as the meds totally took away my energy, in all areas. That was not the plan, but was the effect of the normal dosage, which the doctors refused to reduce, to keep me "safe." I always felt that I did not have this illness, but that I did have a couple of weird experiences early on, related to overdoing yoga. When in hospital, I was often asked to take other patients through the halls on brief walks. I was told I had a mild case. I thought schizophrenia was considered a serious illness. About 20 years in, I secretly went off the meds by reducing the dosage by half every couple of months over the course of a year. When I told my parents at the end of this period, they did not freak out as expected, probably because I showed no symptoms, and was now out of bed for several hours a day instead of two hours. My doctor said to me, "I just don't see it (the illness)." "Take a Ritalin if you feel nervous." (I had not seen him in 3 years. Nor had I been asked to see him. How is this a serious illness?)

The point is I now wander about as a kind of Rip Van Winkle figure, and would like to know if staying alone and celibate is the better approach to life. Maybe there are too many variables to expect a definitive answer. Just looking for someone with some experience in both lifestyles to fill in some blanks. I have been this med-free Rip Van Winkle for about 15 years now.

There was also the problem that my argument that MGTOW could refer to any man who carves out his own life without the anti-feminist connotation did not fit with how most interpret the expression MGTOW. So I just deleted that part, although I do mention the editing. I guess it is time for yet another, perhaps more suitable acronym: MDTOT - Men Doing Their Own Thing. That is when men like Da Vinci, Newton, etc. were brought into the picture.

Thanks for courageous vulnerability, kronos.

I would hope this info softens the tone of some others who have responded. I doubt it fundamentally changes many answers, other than adding a disclaimer that your results may vary. I think the common sense happens to align with the biological imperative to reproduce, which ultimately evolves into seeking partnership of some sort. My firm answer is that porn is not equivalent to human relationships.

That said, there are plenty of people who didn't choose to be unpartnered for life, but make their peace with it and are fulfilled and happy. I would imagine people who have less interest in a life partner from the beginning have an easier time making peace with it, on average.

It has sounded from the beginning and through all your clarifications that on some level you're looking for validation to remain unpartnered and use porn for sexual enjoyment. Whether that's a healthy need for validation or not, you have mine. Based on your background and the doctorate in psychology I just found in a cereal box, it doesn't sound like you're ready for a relationship now, if you ever will be. Whether you ever want a relationship or not determines whether you even need to get ready for it or not.

And two parting thoughts:
1. If going the bachelor + porn route includes very little other real human interaction, it could really warp your mind about sex and women and you'd need to be sure to check that shit.
2. If you decide you want relationship and work really hard for it, remember that it doesn't entitle you to anything. You could still end up a life-long bachelor and that's no one's fault, including your own.

This shit is more like exercise edging...I rarely if ever use it as an outlet...Call it Taoist Yoga call it what you will...I suggest trying it for a week or two to see if it works for you I find there is very little downside... With none of the NoFap horseshit at all...

However

You know what blows any vag/Anal/BJ combination??? A male head attachment on a hitachi magic wand you'll be speaking in tongues ie making sounds grunts gasps moans you did not know possible...AND nutting all over yourself in as little as 30 seconds...and it wont be on full power...You wont even know your wife's name in the middle of that shit...

But I say you can have your cake and eat it to...At my peak with multiple partners and ejaculating four or five times most days for months if not years...

Thanks, Simple Simon. That's a good idea, one I thought of also, although I find it somewhat awkward in execution and with aftereffects, especially if someone does not look specifically for an edited post.

As the OP, I did "reset" things in my first post, and indicated the editing. Later, I did delete a whole post regarding the MGTOW thing and my own interpretation of it, because I soon saw that the thread was going to get more controversial than I had anticipated or wished. But the ball was already rolling, and then all hell broke loose!

Porn is like an ad for a Big Mac. It's carefully staged so that it looks as good as it possibly can, but that's all you can do, look.

Real sex is like buying a big mac and eating it. Doesn't look as good, but superior in every other way.
