I appreciate all the people who are in relationships and have serious time invested in porn. I feel a little bit like Dexter in the Showtime TV show. Yes, he's a liar for not telling his wife he's a murderer. He can't give up killing, But he doesn't want to leave her either. You don't have to point out how that relationship ended because I follow the show. But also see how messed up his relationship was when he's with another murderer. I even have "blood slides" of my collections of the porn videos I have collected on my blog. Like Dexter to his addiction, porn is comforting. It makes me feel powerful that I can have imaginary sex with hundreds of pornstars. And when I haven't jacked off in a while (2 days and more), I have trouble sleeping and all I can think about is porn.
You lost me; You say I'm wrong about the DMCA and the "means of protection", but then say you are right because circumventing the means of protection violates the DMCA? In any case, you should read the DMCA; If you did, you would appreciate the difference between making an illegal copy, which would violate copyright, and "data in transit". Because SCOTUS upheld the idea of Fair Use and First Sale, content providers needed another weapon to make copying media illegal. The DMCA is it. The "tell" is the fact that it doesn't even matter what that access control method is; there just has to be one. I could XOR every bit with 1, and call that my method. I could ROT128 everything and call that my method. The method does not need to be effective, it just needs to exist. And if you circumvent it with DeCSS, or whatever, you're breaking the law again. It's great that you run Linux (Gentoo Rocks!) but that doesn't itself make it inherently illegal to play a DVD. There are commercially available, closed source DVD players for Linux as well, that would legally allow you to play DVDs. It's just that some open source project isn't going to pay the license fee to the RIAA or MPAA or whatever it is called.Totally incorrect. Fair Use says that making a copy for, say, backups, does not violate copyright law. But to make a perfect copy, you have to somehow get the cleartext signal out of devices designed to not expose the cleartext (Have you every wondered why there's such thing as analog video capture cards, but not digital ones that work with anything other than a game console? That's because everything other than a game console keeps the signal encrypted end-to-end.). That's not possible without running afoul of the DMCA. It's the DMCA you're violating, not copyright law; that's the whole reason why they came up with the DCMA: Copyright alone was not good enough according to SCOTUS. But yes, we can agree that the free market, one way or another, is going to solve this problem. The one constant is the pervy demand.
Yes it is a problem when you have to crack the CSS encryption just to watch a store bought DVD on a computer or home built DVR that isn't running Windows or Mac then the law is inherently broken. In order to make your otherwise legal backup you still have to defeat the encryption, which is a violation of the DMCA. If it wasn't the case then Linux distros would include the codecs and extremely useful bits of ubiquitously used GPU code like S3 Texture Compression with every distro as well as the closed source hardware drivers for tons and tons of gear since it's trivial to blow up the install media size from a single CD up to 4Gb where it fits on single layer DVDs and cheap flash sticks just so you have all possible bases covered. But they don't for legal reasons that they don't have the money or time to go deal with some idiot trying to make money for nothing. And no, paying for the privilege to playback the MPEG-2 codec or any other codec for that matter is not a valid option. Especially since pretty much every GPU made for the last, what is in now, 15 years has had the ability to offload the processing and all modern DSPs can implement accelerated playback of any codec that they are fast enough to handle with just a software update. Don't demand that people pay for the privilege to use what they own, it's a battle you can't win. Take for example Tivo, and how they sued every cable and sattelite provider that had DVRs, I don't know how the hell they won that case, I even offered Dish Network's lawyers an ancient ISA TV tuner card from 1989 out of a Packard Bell that could actually record small clips on such ancient hardware, it was prior art that should have invalidated Tivo's entire argument. If you have a problem with someone making backups just look around this forum, theres tons of people that openly talk about how they bounce monthly from industry site to industry site, it's trivial to download all you like from these sites in a month especially if you live in one of the lucky 1Gbps connection areas. - While that may be the case with capture cards designed for the US market there are strippers for the encryption, you place them in line with your HDMI cable, it's a chip that tricks the system into thinking that the whole chain is still TCPA/HDCP protected and passes along the signal without the encryption. I won't link to the Chinese import sites you can get them from. Though they aren't necessary for something where the keys have already been made public like DVD and Bluray. - The SCOTUS didn't create the DMCA, the industry did as a whole to try and keep from having to moderize their products, no different from what happened when the VCR first came out. But you are right that they upheld first sale and fair use, although in a very stupid manner. and likewise he'd be violating neither by ripping his collection and doing whatever he likes with the DVDs, because they fall under Fair Use and First Sale, even though he has to break the encryption to do it. Because he isn't reselling them nor is he throwing them up on Pirate Bay. The people have spoken: theoatmeal.com/comics/game_of_thrones -/- theoatmeal.com/comics/music_industry
This is an interesting topic, let's try to bring it back around. Why don't men stand their ground and not let their wives push them around. My wife is not a porn fan but my entire collection is on about 5 shelves in my closet and I don't hide it at all. As with every other aspect of a relationship their has to be give and take.
My girlfriend is aware that I have a little room where I have 'my personal effects' which is not just porn but my sports vids and mags plus a fair collection of comics and comic tpb's. I love them all, porn sport and comics,in that order. I sure shes aware that theres a fair amount of porn there,I don't know if she has a sneak peak when I'm out but while we've never really discussed it, but she was aware of my 'vices' where she met me and still chose to be with me so I think she ok with it or at least turns a blind eye to it. Slightly off-topic but it does bring back memories of my early teen years. When I first got hold of porns mags for the first time, I used to hide them under the clothes in my closet and under the bed and mothers being mothers, my mom felt the need to tidy my room every so often. One day when I got home from school I saw that she had definitely being tidying up my room again. All the clothes were folded neatly and she must have seen what I had hidden beneath them. I was totally horrified, and felt so embarrassed that I could have died on the spot. To my relief she never did mention what she must have seen but for months afterwards, I was still dreading that she would mention it at any moment. Its kinda funny looking back now and it was all part of growing up, I guess but I will never forget the feelings of utter despair and embarrassment I felt back then when I knew my porn stash was discovered.
It seems there is a fair number of married men on here, so I got to thinking, do men tend to mary the same type of woman (as far as looks) that they prefer to watch in porn?
This is a little too much reality for me. But you guys have at it.

Dude, I'm sorry, but if you're a married man and you can't help but spend hours a week viewing hardcore porn (and masturbating to it), that's a SERIOUS problem...on your end. It's one thing for a married man to check out some porn for a few minutes every now and then (like 30 minutes or so once every couple weeks); this is understandable considering today's over-sexualized television & media, not to mention the incredible ease of access to porn. But when you have to have it on an almost daily basis that is a severe problem, and to expect your wife to be accepting of this behavior is just plain absurd; even more so when sex between you and her is virtually non-existent. Instead of trying to figure out ways to hide this porn collection of yours, you ought to ask yourself what you can do to kick this habit. It probably would've been better to ask yourself that years ago, like BEFORE YOU GOT MARRIED. Edited by - Mass Facialties on 10/8/2013 1:55:32 AM

And this whole notion that all women should be accepting of their guys viewing hardcore porn because "we men have needs!" is also ridiculous. Hey, I love my porn (hell, I'm a self-confessed porn addict), but I'm at least realistic and honest enough to acknowledge that porn is not "a-okay" and that the constant need to view it is not normal. Just because porn has become more "mainstream" doesn't mean that everybody should be accepting of it and willing to embrace it. While there are surely some girls out there who are fine with their significant other viewing porn, I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of girls & women out there are disgusted by it all..and I wouldn't blame them. Quite frankly, I doubt that most even know what hardcore porn is and just how "hardcore" it really is; I would suspect that the average girl thinks that porn is just the softcore stuff they show on premium cable channels like "Skinemax" and Showtime. I think that the vast majority of women would be shocked/appalled/horrified if they really knew how nasty hardcore porn is, the stuff that porn fans like me and you view as normal: anal, double anal, double vag, blowbang, gangbang, etc. Edited by - Mass Facialties on 10/8/2013 3:06:48 AM

BTW, the romantic books/movies to hardcore porn comparison is laughable...of course they're exactly the same.

My wife hates porn and once made me visit a Sexaholics anonymous meeting. When I told them my problem was watching porn, they didn't understand why I was there. Something like 75% of men watch porn, some estimates are higher, some lower, we are in the majority. I have 70 beer boxes of 40 VHS videos in each box, that must be 2750 or so. I store them in my garage rafters, I stand on the top of a ladder and use a golf club to pull them out. There's some real nuggets stored there. I make discs I keep unlabeled so they aren't noticeable, I hide some of them in plain sight. I separate them by dvd spindle so I know which discs are where. I own about 1200 of those, the good thing is, 2 dvd's fit on a blank disc, they record well in 4 hour mode, the quality drops a little but it's a small price to pay. If 1 movie is 2 1/2 hours, I try to pair it with one that is 1 1/2 hours. A beer box stores 8 100 disc spindles, I keep 400 around and 800 stored in the rafters, I switch them out on occasion. Works for me.
Well, if I had a wife that loved something I HATE, can't stand, say she watched shitty romantic comedies, soap-operas whatever, it's not like I have the right to say "Why do you need those fantasies when you have ME! Stop watching it or we're through!". This is about taste, which is usually a part of one's identity. And what about all the violent movies in our collections? Say if you got some horror, splatter, zombie, kung-fu... is that ok? Should you throw that out because your girl was a die-hard pacifist thinking that shit makes people violent? Ridiculous, of course not. I will never embrace romantic comedies, but still there's trailers shoving that totally offensive garbage down my throat. Stereotypical romances so far from reality a gonzo gang-bang seems like a sex education piece shown to young teens...
^ I once saw an interview with Nora Ephron, where she said that as a teen she was really confused about how relationships work because she thought it was like in the movies. (She dated some guys she hated because in the movies, the co-stars never get along from the start.) At the end she joked that her goal in writing romantic comedies was to confuse a new generation of teens.
Any woman in this day & age who honestly believes for the merest instant that her significant (male) other isn't viewing porn, whether openly or furtively, is sadly deluded. In this regard, I almost feel sorry for them; it's an utterly lost cause for the 21st Century female. I've been with my girl for 15 years (married for the last 5 of those) and we've had all the porn-related arguments. Years ago, when she had a weight problem she was really down on herself but since losing it all (entirely her own choice & not due to any pressure from myself - I'm actually a fan of larger ladies) she's quite the changed person and we've never argued about porn since (it was obvious the issue was her own lack of self-confidence). My collection is pretty vast but I store it all out of sight (necessary as we have a young son), only involving her when she expresses an interest, which she occasionally does. I truly believe nowadays that my wife (I can't speak for others) accepts my interest (oh, okay, obsession) as an inevitability in the modern age in which we live. She seems to understand that wanting to watch other people suck & fuck doesn't make me a bad or unloveable person, or incapable of expressing love. We've certainly never been closer than of late & are looking forward to growing old together. I believe I'm living proof that you can have your cake & eat it and I know I'm incredibly lucky to have found this girl. But then, isn't that what marriage is all about: accepting a person for who they are & not trying to change or mould them to your will?
I am one of the few females I know who watches porn and enjoys it, but it amuses me how most guys are ashamed to admit they watch it. Like I'll be seeing a guy for awhile and things get really sexual and when I ask him if he watches porn or not, he's always adamant that he doesn't. I guess it's because of the negative reaction most women have towards it. I find that it really takes them awhile to get used to the idea of a girl who likes porn and is fine with them watching it.
I did... After seeing in Kamila in Buttman Back in Rio, I knew that I could never be faithful to a normal woman when there are exotic beauties like that in the world. My solution: Marry an exotic beauty.
I know how to get a guy really eager to watching porn with you. All you have to do is tell the guy, "You choose your favorite scene, and we'll do a reenactment of that scene as we watch it." I guarantee you that after that, the guy will be showing you porn whenever he has a chance.

Are you into the hardcore stuff, i.e. anal, double anal, double vag, deep-throating, blowbangs & gangbangs? I can see a girl willing to watch some softcore stuff, like on "Skinemax," with her significant other and her even enjoying it (some therapists will actually recommend it), but I just don't see how a girl would be willing to watch the nasty stuff like DP and throat-fucking. One might tolerate her man watching that stuff, but that knowledge that her guy's so "obsessed" with nasty shit like that would freak her out, whether she's willing to admit it or not. I agree with your point, though, that if a guy is asked by his girl if he watches porn or ever has, he's better off just admitting so. But that's it, don't go any further with details like your favorite titles, pornstars, fetishes; that's when you start making her uneasy. If you've got a thing for blowbangs and bukkake facials, it's best that you keep that to yourself.

Good for you, although I don't think she so much accepts it as she does just "puts up with it." There's a difference between her accepting things you do, like watching too much football on the weekends, and tolerating bad shit you do like watching hardcore porn; not only watching it, but watching it so much that you've built up this massive collection. This is where I find a problem-it's understandable if you watch a lil' bit every now and then, but when you watch so much of it that you're spending hours every week whackin' off to it, with a large collection to prove it, that's a problem. If you're single and living on your own, fine, but once you get married I just think you gotta stop with your "daily dose" of porn. When you get married, there are some things you just gotta cut back on, like viewing porn or partying with friends.
^ If whacking off INSTEAD of fucking the wife, now I can see that as an issue. But I think it's more like the wife wants the power over sex in a relation... she doesn't need sex at least twice a day... then you shouldn't either. But why should one wait and get frustrated if whacking off does not interfer with quality of the sex life? Then I think it becomes natural that there will be less time watching porn, but few hours a week? Now that is not much time spent on a hobby. And while many on here have pretty large collection, it's been gathered over a long time... has sentimental value... it's not weirder than a vast record collection, which people would be impressed by, not thinking your a sick freak...
Excuse me, "bad shit I do like watching hardcore porn"? And who made you the arbiter of what is a "good" or "bad" thing to do? My missus smokes (I don't) and is hooked on TV soap operas (which I can't stand) but I understand those things don't define her as a person. They're things she enjoys in order to unwind and porn serves the same purpose for me. FYI, it's far from the only thing I enjoy; my interests are many and varied and encompass mainstream films, TV, music, literature and video games, to name a few. Yes, I have a large collection of porno but that's been an ongoing thing since the late 80s. I've never been secretive about my use and yet my wife chose to hook up with me regardless. As I said in my previous post, I can only speak for myself but I honestly think if you meet the right person (and I did) one's porn collection can happily co-exist with a healthy, happy relationship.
As far as my sex life goes...I've been with this girl 15 years. Ask any guy in a long-term relationship if he wouldn't rather whack off than fuck the missus and...well, you see where I'm going with this . Okay, I'm joking. Sure, we're not exactly setting the sheets alight any more but I still desire her and still thoroughly enjoy sex when it happens. Moreover, I get better erections and have better orgasms than I do from jacking off. As I said above, too, occasionally we'll use porno as a mutual stimulant. It's all good.
Dude you should start converting from VHS to hard drive ASAP!!! First of all magnetic tape recordings will eventually degrade in quality. And believe it or not DVDs also degrade over time. You will start having problems playing DVDs after few years, less if you don't store them right or scratch them. Then you have huge storage requirements for all that. When DVD recorders came out I copied by VHS collection to DVD. When digital media players came out I copied my DVD collection to hard drive. I still have some "loop" tapes I need to convert but its only a couple boxes now. For example, 6 hours of VHS video can fit on a DVD9 blank (using my Philips DVDR to record in LP mode). A DVD9 is 8.5GB so you can store about 250 of those on a 2TB drive which cost about $100. Now you do the math for your collection. The advantages of storing digital video on hard drives ... 1. very convenient (i.e. large collection readily available to browse at your fingertip) 2. easy storage (i.e. one hard drive = hundreds of VHS tapes or DVDs) 3. more secure (i.e. no conspicuous X-rated box covers, can encrypt or password protect drive) 4. backups (i.e. can make more backups to protect from loss, theft, damage, etc) It will take time to convert a collection that large but its worth it. Imagine having spent all that time and money over the years building your collection and then losing it within few minutes to something like a fire, water damage, etc. Just my 2 cents
Really? "Skinemax"? The cable semi-softcore crap? Yeh, sorry I do like all the stuff you mention and if you "Can't see how a girl would be willing to watch such nasty stuff" I'm sorry. I give a lot of latitude to others whose tastes might not match mine and I appreciate it when they do the same to me. I hate, "blockbuster" special effect movies but I realize other don't and that's fine. By the way, why can't a couple who have similar tastes enjoy the same things? I love femdom and fetish themes as well as gangbang. If my partner does also and it excites us, where is the harm?
I think for a lot of women, when they find out you've been watching porn and whacking off over other women, in their minds they see that the same (or at least in the same ballpark) as you cheating on them. Which is nuts, but that seems to be how their brains work (the one's I've had relationships with, anyway).
I'm really into the hard stuff.... particularly anal, dp's, gangbangs (a HUGE fantasy of mine). No softcore for me. The only thing I really don't care for is abusive stuff. That's a total turn off for me. I like to watch the kind of sex that I enjoy in person - hard and nasty but enjoyable to both partners. My favourite video ever is "Young Harlots Gang Bang", in particular the scene with Andi Anderson. She takes on a whole bunch of guys with plenty of anal, DP and massive facials at the end. I also like that all the guys are really good looking in that one (not always the case for a gang bang video), it makes the viewing experience even hotter for me. There's no abuse going on, the guys are there to give her the hard sex she desires. That is one video scene I would love to re-enact myself someday.
Sorry, could you just clarify exactly how DVDs degrade over time? I download a lot of movies but I always convert them to disc because I prefer watching on a television to a computer.
^^^ Vanity, what a wonderful reply to what you like as regards watching and doing sex to the max. Your lovers and I hope they are many of both sexes are so privileged to be able to get off with you, damn I am jealous of them all.
That's assuming that these activities are done separately and are not integral aspects of your relationship.

Here's a story that fits in here, sort of. I've been married for 13 years. For the bulk of that time, my wife has said she's not into porn, always changed the channel if something porn is on TV, etc. But she's never outright said she hates it. She knows I watch porn. She's seen it on my computer screen. she makes fun of me for it, but doesn't flip out about it. She doesn't know I have a Terabyte or more of it on my hard drive, but that's not really the important part. Out of respect for her, I don't try to get her to watch it with me. But what I've found is that just because she pretends not to be into it, doesn't mean she necessarily hates it. We, as guys, often keep porn and masturbation private - turns out, so do the ladies. So one day my wife says she's got a virus on her computer and can I clear it off.. so I do. I'm an IT guy, it's what I do for a living. She's got the dreaded "MoneyPak" ransomeware virus. Easy enough to remove, but scary as hell to the uninitiated. Makes you think your computer is locked out by the FBI for looking at illegal stuff. Lots of disreputable porn sites have it lurking in their adware. So as I'm cleaning it up, I take a peek at the browser history to see if I can figure out what caused it. Lo and behold the wonderment. She's been searching for interracial and gangbang porn on the internet. Watching videos on tube sites. So she's into it, but keeps it on the down low! I got creative. I set up VNC server on her machine, so I can monitor real time what she's watching, and dumped a few really good interracial and porn vids I have in avi form on her machine, so they show up in the windows media player history. She's not technically savvy enough to know that I put this there, and she might think the virus did it. Some nights, she works late to meet deadlines. a Few nights later she did. So I fired up VNC viewer on my laptop after I'd gone to bed and she went upstairs to "work". Within 1/2 hour she was watching the vids, rewinding her favorite parts, and OBVIOUSLY, she was masturbating. and Now I have my Office computer webcam set up so I can watch while she masturbates - and so do I. and we still have great sex on the regular, and I watch less porn now, because I'd rather watch her watching it! So just because she isn't into watching it with you, doesn't mean she isn't into it.
I will never understand the inclination of people toward certain activities, let alone sharing them in public...

Being called creepy for enjoying voyeurism of your own wife, on a porn message board that is filled with guys who are hiding their porn because they are ashamed of their habits of wanting to see young women defiled on film for money. Priceless.

I do love blankets. So warm and fuzzy. By all means, keep projecting your fallibilities onto the rest of us.
Just copy those DVDs to a hard drive and you can play them on your TV using a media player that can read DVD files and has HDMI or component outputs (e.g. WDTV Live Hub). You put the disc into your computer attach external drive via USB and simply do a copy folder and your done. You may find that some of your DVDs will have read errors while doing this. I personally noticed about 5% of my DVD collection had read errors after about 5yrs. What causes the errors .... It' called Disc Rot. Discs can become damaged from general handling and storage problems also. Do a google search and you'll find plenty of articles on this topic. Here's a couple ... When optical discs go bad CDs Are Not Forever: The Truth About CD/DVD Longevity, Mold & Rot Care and Handling of CDs and DVDs: A Guide for Librarians and Archivists BTW SSDs may be even safer than hard drives because they have no moving parts. But they don't have the capacity of large hard drives yet and they are more expensive. This has gotten more technical than I intended. If you really want to talk more about create a thread in the tech talk section.
Thank you! I live in a fairly conservative country so most guys here, while they deep down inside WANT to get deep down inside me, are often too scared of me, because I go against all the religious drivel that's been forced on them from a young age. But I am fortunate right now to have a couple guys right now giving me what I need... I just hope they don't find out about each other. ;-)

Says the guy with 1300 posts on a porn discussion board. I find watching my wife masturbate to be a turn on. Most idiot guys would get jealous and pick a fight with their wives for watching group sex vids.

Did I say she was being "filmed"? That would indicate some sort of recording is taking place. What I'm doing is a technologically easier method of looking through the proverbial keyhole. How that is construed as creepy on a pro message board of all places is beyond me. My wife knows I watch porn and doesn't have a problem with it. And now I know she does to, and I don't have s problem with it either. And because of it, I'm more attracted to her than ever. I'd say that's about the furthest thing from creepy there is.

And there is no recording going on. I like to watch. It's called voyeurism. It's a fantasy. Not unlike cuckolding or swapping. But I guess those are concepts that are too lowbrow for a board full of guys who demand every girl get anal and DP and be choked nearly to death.

Out of respect for her BEFORE I knew she liked porn, I didn't watch it in front of her. Shehad always gave me every indication that she didn't like it. So I didn't try to force her into it. I don't know if she always liked it, but was ashamed to admit it, or if it's a new discovery for her sexuality, but it's not like I was "spying" on her always. She asked me to fix her computer, and in the process of doing that I discovered her previously unknown porn appetite. That turned me on tremendously. It's not like this was born out of jealousy. I know she's not cheating on me. But the thought that this stuff is her fantasy is a big turn on for me. Also, watching her masturbate is a turn on. It's genuine and raw. There is no sinister ulterior motive here. Im not trying to gather evidence or shame her. Exactly the opposite. I love it.

Again with that nice, warm blanket. Not a fan of those niches personally, but I guess those are too high-brow for a creeper that records his unwitting spouse.

So now it's an issue of verbiage? Nah, I don't think so. But if it hurts you so... then apologies for the mistake.
It's interesting how you are invading your own wife's privacy in her own home where she, reasonably, has the expectation of privacy, and rationalizing it at every turn. I guarantee that your wife will not reason the same way that you do. No woman would.
Thanks. Just read through a couple of those links you provided & can't say I'm too concerned. As you rightly said in your original post, the biggest bugbear with physical media is finding the space to store it. I'll always prefer it, though. You just can't beat the simplicity of inserting a disc & pressing 'play'.
