The legal age is 18 of course, but is 18 the right number? Is any number the right number? I am sure there have been many 18 year olds how jumped into porn, and then deeply regretted it. Had these girls been older, they might have known better. At the same time there have probably been 25 year olds who got into porn and also regretted it. So should you make the age limit 26? Or does it depend on the individual? What about Traci Lords? Was she 15 when she got into porn? How did she turn out? Did she regret it?
I don't know the answers. I think porn is destructive for many people, and it's something that needs careful consideration before sucking cock in front of a camera. My guess is it's the rare person who can handle living a lifestyle so looked down on by the rest of society.

Sounds like you're asking the wrong question, Arnold. The question you want is How mature is mature enough for porn? Unfortunately, while I can give you an answer, I can't give you a way test for the appropriate level of maturity. I'm sure some wag will say that you're mature enough when you know better.
As for porn being destructive for many people, that's doesn't seem entirely accurate, though I suppose you can find some examples to point to. I think it more accurate to say that the larger society's discrimination against porn is destructive to many people.
A number is set because it is an easy thing to check. Like age limits for driving, voting, drinking, and holding office the age chosen is no guarentee of qualification. Some people never mature in their lives. Nor is mental or emotional maturity an even process. This is often a reason why preocious children are often misjudged or handled incorrectly - they may be very bright and mature for their age, but don't have the depth of experience and perspective to handle everything an older person could reasonably be expected to handle.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if the age was 21. 18 is pretty young. But it's not like I'm losing sleep over it.
Sometimes i think 18 is too young. Maturity [IMHO] usually comes with age and experience. If you can not make the right experiences [due to numerous reasons] in a certain age maturing may become difficult. I often asked myself if all the girls that did those hard anal/gagging/pissing scenes knew exactly what they were getting into. Too often you could see the answer right on their faces. I came here to point out Sasha Grey as an example of why the legal porn age should be 20 or 21. No offense meant to her but I can almost guarantee she'll regret the acts she has done on video in a few years. Girls that young want attention and with today's porn environment, where freak show acts are a sure way to get noticed, the stakes are higher and the regret and infamy will be worse. The law may say that the legal age is 18 but I think theree should be some type of limit because it doesn't matter whether a girl is young or older it really takes alot to deal with the ins and outs of the business and typically a younger mind couldn't handle it. It's bad enough there are those out there who are there to take advantage of young gal's mind. I'd say have porn mentoring programs between newbies and currant gals. It sucks all alround for companies to put money into a girl or even fans putting money into a girl just for that girl to realize it isn't what she wants to do. Therefore she lets down a lot more people than she realizes. I just think the girl should fully be aware of what she's getting into regardless of age.

I agree with the sentiment that if you are old enough to die for your country, you are old enough to perform in adult films.
I also agree that regrets are part of human nature. Yes, one day after the spotlight fades, the calls for work stop coming in, when they try to get a civilian job, or dodge the stares from conservative PTA moms as they drop their kids off for school... well, then there may be some regrets.
HOWEVER...
I'm sure a great majority of the female stars today do not regret the choices they've made or the lifestyle that porn affords them. And honestly, who's to say that these women aren't empowered by their decisions and the freedom that sexual inhibition brings, regardless of their age.
Anyway, I suggest asking some of the retired stars, both male and female, if they have any regrets....

A great idea, only fully 95% of the retired ones disappear and are never heard from again. That fact alone should tell you quite a bit.
What are they supposed to do? Place ads in the paper every week so you can still find them and ask them if they regret anything? How many people in any industry do you know of who are easy to find (or even want to be found) by random people once they retire?
what do you do for a living ?...do you have absolute pride in those actions? I'm proud of who and what i do ...I'm not ashamed and I'm not afraid of the future and people who will judge me and might attack me. i understand it comes with the territory . i agree there is a large fallout with young women getting into this business and regretting it later (that's not me i will take the pepsi challenge any day of the week be it 2007 or 2027) and i have stated my opinion on the age question in another thread . If anybody read my mission statement then they would understand that i'm all about a no bullshit POV . hopefully in time i can be like Belladonna, Nina Hartley or Cosey Fanni Tutti hopefully i've illustrated my feelings on this topic adequately enough so i won't have to read anymore lame ass assumption about how i'm supposed to feel in the future.
