It probably started with Monica Lewinsky, and Clinton's assertion that oral sex is not sex (I had also heard young men assure me that if they received only a blowjob, it did not constitute an infidelity). Then, more issues were raised by two interesting questions I saw posted at different websites. One was a from 40 year old lifelong lesbian, who was tired of her friends telling her that she was still a virgin. The other was posted by a young man who had only had anal sex with his girlfriend, and wanted to know if he was still a virgin. Can one preserve one's virginity by indulging in unlimited oral and anal sex? There are cultures where a young girl's virginity is considered 'taken' at puberty by the ceremonial use of an older woman's finger. But in our society there seems to be an actual legal definition that it involves penile penetration of a vagina. That raises another issue - consent - whether virginity can be taken, or must be given. Another issue is completion - if a penis is inserted, but rejected without actual intercourse occurring, how does that affect the concept? Do we get a whole bunch of virginities to use up - oral virginity, anal virginity, etcetera? What's the deal? [Link] |

Of course, anytime anybody's enough of a zealot to want to dictate how others want to live their life, rather than going on basically a live and let live basis, seems idiotic to me. People mostly seem to want to remove that which they most fear from around them. I agree that it's a major rite of passage in many cultures. In some it's even considered fairly magical. One of the problems with AIDS speading in Africa is the large majority of blacks still go to the witch doctor for 99% of their problems (they will go to the doctor, but normally only if taken by a white person). The common witch doctor cure for AIDS is to go deflower a young virgin. Sadly, this means it's next to impossible to find a virgin over 10 years old in most areas. [Link] |

According to Webster Dictionary, a virgin is the following: Main Entry: 1vir·gin Main Entry: sexual intercourse I guess according to the Webster Dictionary, you can have all the anal sex, oral sex, dildo penetrating sex, and fisting that you want and technically still be considered a "virgin". The ES Dictionary defines Virginity as follows: Virginity: The first time one does something. The virginity list is indefinate, there is so much to try and so many things to do. One should not be fixated on a single act. The first time is often the worst time. If it's something you really wanted to do and the first time sucked, try it again!!!
