I bought a Sony HDR HC9 camcorder. It should arrive Tuesday. I can't wait to start shooting my own porn. I know of one distributor who will buy content from me. Any suggestions from the peanut gallery?
Heheheheh. I'm not sure how much money I'll have to spend on Talent initially, and you kinda get what you pay for. I'm sure the quality of my shoots and talent will improve steadily as I get more work under my belt. You gotta start somewhere.
It doesn't hurt get in some sort of practice before show time. Years ago I bought a fetish female bodybuilder video from a startup guy. This guy had hired 2-3 of the biggest names in the business to pose for him; it had to cost him big bucks. Anyway the quality was SHIT, looked like the guy had never even held a video camera before he was actually shooting the awesome Colette Guimond. Shaky cam, no lights, no direction, total failure. I emailed him to complain, and he suggested I buy a custom video from him for $200 to get exactly what I wanted. As if that would make a difference. He had demonstrated his incompetence, no way was I gonna give him front money. His site eventually disappeared. It was an excellent concept and he was in a niche all to himself with NO competition. I would have bought many of his videos, had the quality not been disastrous. Not trying to scare you or discourage you, but first impressions are important. Do some practice and experimentation on your own dime before you make stuff for sale.
Yes, I'm sure once I have a camera I will shoot all kinds of different things, not just porn. And having shot around 20 scenes, as on screen talent, I have a pretty good idea of how to light a scene. And I've watched lots of porn both old and new, and I think I've got a pretty good idea of what/how to shoot. My time in the valley taught me that there isn't some mysterious skill set directors out ther have. The big difference is that they have a camera, and the means to hire girls. If you've watched much porn since the mid-nineties internet driven "porn explosion", you know there's a bunch of straight up garbage out there. The J. Jordan, Mike John, Robby D types are few and far between. And those dudes all started out with a camera and an idea.

Woot woot! Shot a "scene" about 3 weeks ago, I sold it to HomeGrown Video. The payment for said scene, minus what I paid the girl, minus the cost of my camera, I'm now $125 "in the black". LMAO, when women ask what I do from now on. I'm saying I'm a producer!
In the black in a single scene?? Wow, that's great! I never thought HV paid that kind of real money. Keep us posted on when it becomes available to see on their website or DVD.
Yes, I was surprised by their offer to be sure. Especially on my first attempt. Was expecting some criticism about the footage, which might have been helpful. Oh well, I'm sure I'll continue to get better at it!
Well, my only expenses were a used Sony camcorder (a shade under $500) and the girl. Had to make do with a construction type halogen lamp for light, using a ceiling "bounce" to soften up that harsh light as best as possible. Real low budget, down and dirty, do it yourself type of shit. You don't need $5,000 to get started. Grab a camera and a girl and make some porn. Punk fuckin' rock!

Nope, the site I sold the tape to had a link to a printable (adobe) release form. Filled those out, and got snapshots of everyone's Driver's and social security cards and just included those on the disc I put the stills from the shoot on. Pretty straightforward deal.
A girl who answered an ad on Craig's list. Yep, go to home grown's site, click on the "submit video" link, it will walk you through it. Congrats, you're now a producer!
Quick money, fun time, blah-de-blah. Just look under adult gigs in your area for an idea. If there are none to look at in your area, check LA's, and Vegas and Miami. Any population center is bound to have some pro/am producers scraping up talent. Just throw one up. or two. or three. See what gets responses.

Did you edit up the scene and send it to them or did you send all the raw footage and they'll chop it up how they like it? I thought of that today when I was at work. Haha.
I think I've got another shoot or two coming together. Gonna be watching a friends place next week, and he has given me permission to shoot there. He has a hot tub, and an outdoor deck. I'm a little worried about the neighbors, but I should be able to set up some sort of temporary walls/barriers to keep the light from spilling out, and prying eyes from peeping in. And this girl is bangin'. Like 22 or 23 and a straight up 10. Think Bree Olsen with big ol' double Ds! She's gonna get pounded! I can't wait. I'm actually bummed that it will have to be sold to someone else for editing and distribution.
I'm unsure. I keep checking every day, or at least every other day. I haven't seen it up yet. I just found out there is like a thirty day check processing period at HGV, which seems ridiculous to me. So that means at least a six week turnaround, which blows. What can you do?
- NO stupid background music - When there is dialogue let it be heard, if I can't hear what she is saying it is annoying as hell - Have some asians and latinas who speak English clearly, YET they have their sexy distinctive accents on them, THAT is a turn on -Proper lighting, don't have it super bright or too dark - Have some seduction and tease, some opening of the present first, going straight to a fuck scene right out of the gate is kinda a turn off for some of us
My advice: Don't get too carried away with the hot tub. I've never seen anyone do a good job of shooting stuff in a bathtub or jacuzzi or pool; I suspect it's impossible. Of course, YMMV.
What means YMMV? I know about the technical difficulties of shooting and really, even fucking in a hot tub. I just think if the tub was used as a set-up and maybe there was some making out going down in there, it would give a nice feel or flow to the scene. Plus, titties always look better wet and foamy! It's still not up yet. Shot another scene last week. I haven't submitted it yet as the photo of one of the peoples IDs is too out of focus to be submittable, and that stud is out of town. Have another shoot tentatively lined up for Sunday. Oh, my second shoot went really good. Cute couple, 22 and 20 years old respectively. Just a nice looking couple who wanted to do something a little bit extra naughty. And they put me in contact with one of their friends who also wants to shoot one. I'll be back in LA in six months. Hello Ray, I'm also in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle to be exact. I'm looking to get started as well in a niche genre. How is the camera you selected working out? Have you been pleased with your choice or are there better ones out there? Would love to talk more about your experiences as I try to get off the ground here, insofar as how you got your talent, etc. Don't worry, we are not in competing genres since I assume you're heterosexual. So far I'm happy with my camera, of course I wish I had a better one, but I have to deal with a budget, and it shoots really well for what I paid for it. Need to start editing my own stuff next. Selling the raw footage to the next guy is okay, but I'm sure there is more money to be made if you edit and distribute your own content.

Hey raybbaby...on your HC9 did you ever end up using an external mic for the sound or anything? or did you just use the default mic? I was just thinking about that. I looked at some HC9 footage on Vimeo and it gets some very nice HD video. I was thinking of getting a D-SLR that's HD Video capable, but the focusing aspect of it seems like a lot of trouble when your subject is moving. Also, with the editing, if you're running a Mac you can do decent editing with iMovie or (better yet) Final Cut. You can get Final Cut Express for like $199 which is good for the money. I've got it on my computer. Final Cut Studio is like $999 but it's got a ton of shit with it. That's the best version of FC available and is what the pros use. If you're on a PC, Adobe has a video editing program but I'm not too familiar with it, as I've just done editing on Macs. Hope this helps!
It is all helpful. I just use the built in mic, but I'd like to get a little external one. But the sound seems to be OK, but I can't speak to how well the mic on an SLR camera would work. It may vary quite a bit from brand to brand, even from model to model.
