The announcement comes after the credit card company announced in December that it was cutting financial ties with Pornhub, and Visa said it was temporarily suspending payments on the adult website after The New York Times' Nicholas Kristof published a disturbing December 4 report detailing the abuse of minors and female victims on Pornhub including "child rapes, revenge pornography, spycam videos"."

Mickelwait previously told Fox News that people have been "deceived" by the "very successful marketing campaigns" of porn websites like Pornhub, which she said has presented itself "to the world as some kind of socially responsible, cheeky, ethical porn company.""
^The title of that article is pure click bait B.S but the core of the article makes complete sense. The porn industry has been living under 2257 regulation for long before PH was a thing or for that matter any other site similar to PH and somehow it took until last year for CC companies to issue warnings of what just about every other porn producing companies has known for decades. You need to know who your performers are prior to uploading the content but since PH and tube sites like it don't because they basically allow just about anybody to upload unverified content to their platform then they deserve everything that is happening right now.
Let's be frank with ourselves. PH and similar tube sites have never been pro-porn industry. They have always been pro making money off the back of the people that are pro-porn industry. If they go out of business tomorrow then none of porn industry producers will cry a tear that they don't have to deal with them because so much of their content was continually uploaded to their platform and they had to deal with the devil in the hope of making pennies when they used to make dollars.
^&^^I will repeat what I've written previously. Unless PH offered a significantly better percentage of the profit then models/performers already have at least two established platforms to upload their own content. Clis4Sale and Many Vids. The biggest selling point for PH was it's name recognition but for a person like me who has seen what PH has done to the industry over the years then it's more infamous than famous.
If PH is such a lucrative thing for performers then somebody else will come up with their own version that doesn't involve being associated with content thieves.
At the begining yes, they were predominately pirate sites, but they evolved to be essential marketers for porn sites. If tube sites disappear completely it will have a very significant effect on industry as a whole. The vast majority of porn sites that I have subscribed to I have found via watching clips on tube sites.
PornHub needs to be held properly to account for it's treatment of victims of child sexual exploitation that has included refusing to take videos of such rape down and doxxing victims. They got away with far too much for far too long.
I fully accept that Exoduscry and various #traffikinghub activists are using Pornhub's criminal negligence to boost their ongoing campaign against the entire porn industry fuelled by religious bigotry. These puritans would have porn banned in a heartbeat of they could and any effort they make to frame themselves as champions of women's rights should be met with grave suspicion. All that being said, it's very cynical of PornHub and their simps to hide behind this.
Ultimately the steps being taken by credit card companies and tube sites over age verification and allowing only uploads from verified users are positive even if it has come years too late for many.
"Essential" would imply that the porn industry would die if tube sites cease to exist. Your experience may be representative of some other people but if you are implying that it is representative of the wider fan base, I welcome you to demonstrate how significant an effect and culling of tube sites would have with facts and not opinions. The lamentations of performers and studios that the profitability of the industry is lower than "back in the day" as a result of piracy would imply that your demographic isn't representative of a majority of those who frequent tube sites.
Yes, there is such a thing as a loss lead in business but that should be voluntary, never forced or coerced. When other people distribute content without owning the copyright to it, I can't side with any attempt to rationalize or justify tube sites taking money from studios or forcing a studio's hand into taking pennies when it should be taking dollars.
^I completely agree with what you wrote. The only way his statement makes sense is if a porn site has a terrible preview section limiting fans from discovering if what is behind the paywall is worth it and somehow PH offers small portion of their videos thereby increasing the traffic to the site but I suspect that what I have just described is pure fantasy. To me PH like every other tube site is out to make money off the back of the people who produce porn and the only reason why they aren't as bad to the industry is that they own so much of it that many of the videos they have come from their own sources. In return that probably means they make less money now because they are stealing from their own pocket.
It would appear that PH biggest competitor "XVideos" is also in hot water and they may lose access to MC and Visa. They just lost Paypal and MC has issued a statement that they will stop offering their services to sites that can't verify the age of the performers(something really difficult for tube sites) to do.
I can't comment on what porn sites/studios uploaded to tube sites voluntarily but I have certainly seen miserly actions from some porn sites limiting the number of trailers you can view.
^Isn't the fact that we really don't know what is legally uploaded and what isn't part of the problem for sites like PH. Granted some sites could de a better job in the marketing department but I doubt PH is helping them by uploading better trailers. At least not if it isn't one of their own sites.
^ It's one of many problems. Some studios don't do themselves many favours by undermarketing their content as you alluded to or limiting the number of trailers a prospective subscriber can view per day but I don't think that "allows" unauthorized third parties to take the initiative to "promote" their content on tube sites.
You are an extreme outlyer. Signups through PH generally are counted in per million. Meaning you would get a few memberships out of 10 million views. They are scum and I hope they die.
^ It's also interesting that the number of websites subscribed to relative to the number of studios viewed on tube sites wasn't disclosed. My bet is on it being in the minority.
Do you know who don't have to abide by this? tubes, torrents and cyberlockers. I blame the adult industry, colluding with these disgusting tube sites, giving them legitimacy. Tubes are not and will never be apart of the adult industry but the public doesn't know that, to them tubes are the industry but they're thieves. They should've been nipped in the bud from 2007 instead they were allowed to fester and now they (adult industry) shall reap what they sow. More restrictions on legal producers. If you're a producer and continue work with tubes and refuse to file any copyright/trademark suits against pirates this year then I have no sympathy for you.
^ Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Perhaps the industry had become complacent in its victories against the high profile torrent sites that collapsed a decade ago after so many industry players issued copyright takedown requests and perhaps the industry underestimated the pervasiveness of MindGeek and the machine it would become today but hindsight is a wonderful privilege that allows us to reflect on what happened and assert what the industry should have done something early on to prevent or mitigate the financial trouble it's in today.
^^You make it sound like the porn industry didn't want to do anything about content thieves as though their situation was in any way similar to the music or mainstream entertainment industry. The only reason why the music and mainstream entertainment industry were and still are able to significantly limit content thieves is because they have the support of the Government. If it wasn't for that then they would be in the same spot as the porn industry. How many movies can you find on torrent sites or even on You Tube where I'm pretty sure the people uploading do not have the rights to those movies and tv shows.
Imagine if someone in the Government had given a shit about the porn industry early on and crackdown on content thieves when they were just beginning. What would the industry look like today? I suspect the number of active studios would be significantly greater. The simple truth is that the only reason why we are seeing any real changes is that tube sites got too greedy and were so self-confident in their belief that no one could touch them that they didn't see what was coming. Their own hubris was their downfall.
You're right, the FBI has told certain producers they won't go after pirates of porn unless it involves CP or human trafficking. Does that mean the industry put their hands up? no, they go after pirates via the civil route. I'm talking about the blatant colluding with tubes sites by giving them content for their premium tubes, selling websites to them, giving them positive articles in adult news and accepting money from them. By doing this, you have accepted tubes as legitimate members of the porn industry. As such Mastercard is able to create 'new' rules for them. While legal producers were always 2257 compliant, tubes uploaded without a care in the world. I repeat, in the eyes of the public, tubes are the porn industry. Tubes/cyberlockers/torrent trackers make hundreds of millions per year off their content, legit producers scramble to earn whatever crumbs are left. Speaking of Hollywood, there is no way you could make tubes with full length movies from studios and get away with it. mega/oron/rapidshare could never sit at the table with Universal, Disney, Sony etc. but tubes can, why is that? Do you think Netflix could offer brand spanking new AAA movies if they started out selling bootleg DVDs?
"...Repetition has been accepted as a replacement for evidence." - Thomas Sowell
I am a member of the public and I have never considered tube sites to be the porn industry any more than the dodgy VHS at a market stall to be mainstream Hollywood.
Do you have a study or survey to back up your claim a majority of an interviewed sample of the general public conflates tube sites with the porn industry or will you keep repeating this narrative until you think that seed has been planted in everyone's head?
My view is that the general public who frequent tube sites don't give a shit where porn comes from if they're not paying for it. I'd be surprised if they actively thought tube sites were the industry itself.
By your rationale, are Brazzers or Digital Playground for example not legitimate porn production companies for being owned by the same company that owns PornHub?
Featuring interviews with Lust, accused of sexual assault/on-set mistreatment, and Mills, who by many accounts covered up allegations of sexual assault and was a toxic presence on set. The concept is nice, but these are puzzling choices. The press release could at least say something like, these two had their own hurdles/challenges and learned from their mistakes and therefore are good choices for interviewees.

I somewhat agree but what do you aspect it's an Xbiz article, they'll going stay mostly positive. Are you talking about the xconfession scene that was shown in "Hot Girls Wanted - Turned on"? That show itself is problematic but Ekria Lust has commented on it and said it wasn't that bad. you can take it or leave it. Also, That Netflix show was most likely edited to make it look worse than what it was. I'm not trying to make excuses just listening to all sides of the story From Xconfessions comment section :
"roland A strange movie that gives some bad vibes. The sex is a bit brutal. A documentary about the film shows how Erika had to pause the recording when the woman felt pain. Some scenes have also been cut off because they were too brutal. A scene with cunnilingus also seems to be cut away. Maybe the whole movie should be cut away? See translation Icon E Erika Lust Hi Roland, thank you for your comment!
I'm sorry to hear that this movie isn't for you, I hope you find others on the site that you prefer. However, about what you saw on the Netflix documentary - when we interrupt the shooting because of the performer's pain, it's not because someone has been brutal with her, which is something we don't tolerate, but because sometimes in intimate situations there can be moments of physical discomfort, and, as I'm sure you understand, it's not a situation that we like to shoot. That's why there was a pause. As for having scenes cut away, we have to! We shoot for a full day end up with a 15-20 minute film. That means a lot of editing :)
That moment came to mind, but no, I was referring to the allegations of assault made by a performer called Rooster. I am unsure as to how credible the allegations are, but the performer didn't quit talking about it so they certainly think something bad happened.
^^ Good point. Even if the aim is to titillate, why can't it still involve an artist communicating their work and collaborating with the model(s). So, do you have an answer to the age old question: what is the difference between art and pornography?
But I looked through the article again, and I noticed I left these out.
LOL!
And from the comments.

Oh, and in the wake of the Nirvana album lawsuit, for those of non-legal age as well.
^ Yes. There are others, but they seem to be rare. Sasha Grey comes to mind as another. I suspect that Lexi Belle is in this group too but I don't know.
^ I think other members here who were born in the 1960s or earlier would agree with me that "finding porn magazines in a ditch" was a very common way of starting your collection back in the day. Besides a ditch, the woods was a frequent contributor too. I even had an old dyke that was great for porn stashes. No, it isn't what you think. Between my house and a friend's house we had to go by a low spot on the road and we were right on the coast so there was a large rock dyke there to prevent the waves from washing over the road. It was a great source of discarded porn.
Kids these days don't know how easy they've got it.
I might write to the Bavarian police to see if they'll send these to me. The musty smell of old, wet and discarded porn magazines holds some special memories for me.
