does anyone have a preference, or even care? personally, i love ordering DVD's and bustin em out of that new plastic when they come in. and lookin at the great cover "art". plus the quality seems to be better, and its a lot more comfortable to watch. i can lay out on my bed haha.
I love DVD porn more than internet porn simply because I can watch it in high quality on my big tv screen especially when upscaled so everything looks even sharper. Blu-ray is even better but very expensive still. I love DVD's/BR simply because I also love the boxcover so I can place them on my shelves and look with proud at my collection. I can't do that if I had to look at my harddrives where my other porn is stored. But it's different when it comes to internet content to DVD. In that case I would rather stick with the internet simply because all scenes are being cut for DVD and I hate that shit. I want to watch the original scene so I would rather join the site and watch the scene on the internet. And of course some companies are only internet like Dogfart so I join them.
Only dvd. When I have added 10 DVD's to my wish list, I make a order. This can be once a month but sometimes once per 3 months. That's why I almost don't know the names of the new "stars" unless I know them from here. I used to have 2 subscriptions at bangbros/brazzers. But with so much porn that is being added every single week to those web-sites, it can soon be an addiction to check out this new material. Frankly, I have better things to do than watch porno for a couple of hours every day.... 1 of my little nephews has a subscription for a lot different online companies. Some other friend of mine has subscriptions of a lot of companies my nephew doesn't have. Both of them know which girls I like to see new stuff from. Both just download and burn that stuff for me on a DVD and give it to me when we see each other. Saves me a lot of bucks!
Dvds never even see the Dvd player. They're immediately ripped to my hard drive, where I can cut out the stuff I don't want. Pretty much every new tv can now accept input from a computer, making it easier then ever to watch it on the big screen.
For me, it isn't internet vs DVD content. It's windows media player/other video utility vs a DVD player. I prefer the time bar, where you can instantly skip to the time index you want. Maybe I have ADHD or something, but I skip around a lot usually, and the ease of that in windows media player is a little more important than the higher quality picture on my tv. Plus, I don't have blu-ray or anything, so i'm still watching in standard def anyway.
I'd like to do this. I have a few dvds, and i review a lot for the site here. For that, I like the DVD player, so I'm reviewing in the format most people will use, but for re-watching later, I'd love to have some of them on my 'puter. What do you use to rip them?

Internet Porn is the way to go. Editing the movies to take out stuff I dont like. Also its more private. It is easier to store and you can avoid having to amke a trip to buy it at the store. Some DVD stores are wierd, so I dont buy DVD's.
I believe a better heading for this discussion would be: Over the counter porn(mainstream) vs. Internet porn(niche targeted). Both have their merits. I give the edge to mainstream as far as technical polish goes. So much niche-targeted porn(and personality driven porn not LA connected)is poorly lit, composed, edited. Of course if the women you enjoy watching have sex is a super enthusiast she can make up for the lack of behind the camera skill. These performers just aren't that interested in sprucing up the video quality or coming to porn valley to increase their audience share. What I would like to see more of is if guys like T.Byron, L.T., Sean Michaels and others went out into the hinterlands and filmed a scene or two with a hot babe like Erin Daye, Jenny Seemore, Dawn Marie or Susan Reno. But its not likely to happen because so many women are breaking their necks trying to get to LA and become the next big porn sensation. are all DVD's shot in HD nowadays? i just bought an HD TV and started buying DVD's, and man i cant believe how much detail is it, esp. the blow me sandwich series. but what about the movies specifically shot in "HD"? are they any more clear?
I also do this all the time. Why carry your dvd collection along with ya if you have media laptop that has 500 GB on board??? Good quality is preferred of course, but I'm more than happy with my 1.3 GB files. I only have a 13,3" TFT screen, so it's like watching HD.
I enjoy going to the store to buy my movies - I get to chat with the owner and make the customers feel uncomfortable. I only buy DVDs (mostly online) simply because I like to have the full movie (or, a movie in general rather than individual scenes), I like to have the box art, and there's something nice about having a wall of DVDs at my disposal for me to grab and watch, check a credit on the back, or to simply sit and admire.
I prefer DVDs for one reason above all others... Once I purchase it, I own it. End of discussion. No DMCA issues. No "recurring charges" scams. No where-did-the-file-go issues. (Just had to mention a few.)
Having worked all winter at my friend's shop, I think I speak with at least some authority on this subject: The only customers you are making uncomforable are the ones who are embarassed to be there and probably won't buy anything anyway. It's the regulars like you who account for over 75% of the business a local shop does. On late night shifts we sometimes would get into discussions regarding the survival of porn shops with the explosion of internet porn. We came to the same conclusion I mentioned above; most business comes from people who come to the store for more reasons than to just buy a dvd and leave. They like to hobnob, shoot the breeze, browse, make special orders or order suggestions, etc. Those who exclusively use internet porn are usually those who weren't visiting shops in the first place (before the net).
DVDs for me. I haven't seen much internet-based content that comes anywhere close to DVD quality, although I haven't belonged to very many sites - maybe it's getting better? I rent a ton of DVDs and purchase maybe 2-3 a month - sometimes more. I too like the ownership factor, and I like building collections of different series/niches that particularly appeal to me, e.g. oral-centric series, throatfucking, cumswallowing, blowbangs, etc.. If I had to keep it all straight on a hard drive, I'd have to get much better at organizing my files (and I'd need one stinking huge hard drive!).
Thanks for the BTS. At my store, the guys are always buying stuff (stacks and stacks), but still seem embarrassed. The girl who works there said the guys will put the least offensive movie on the top of the stack (as if that will hide the others!). I always try to be breezy and not disconcerted so that the men don't get too weirded out (I've been the only woman on every occasion except two), but there are still those moments when you're standing next to each other looking at the wall of DVDs. I usually go and look in a different section until they've moved on. That's a shame stores are being run out of business - I'm glad to report that my local does good business though. Might be because I live in the bible belt (funnily enough, the store owner told me Sundays are the busiest).

I also prefer DVD's over the internet. Obviously there is the quality issue. While the quality of internet video has increased ten fold over the years, it still doesn't rival the crisp clean quality of the DVD image. But perhaps the main reason why I prefer DVD's is simply because I like the BTS features. I find that they help give the performers a dimension beyond mere porn performers. You can get an idea of their sense of humour, how they relate to the other people on the set etc. In fact I usually watch the BTS portion of the disc first as I find it much more of a voyeur moment than the actual staged, or semi staged sex act.
I prefer dvd quality etc. But most of the stuff I like is considered "fetish", and therefore gets half-assed treatment by the mainstream pornmakers. So lately, my money goes to Clips4sale and 1-girl amateur sites.

95% of every porn I watch is produced for the web. I rarely nowadays seek out dvd stuff its mostly if it is a certain star I want to watch. Nikki Jayne has made me a vividman for the first time ever for instance. I also watch the internet stuff on my hires Plasma and it looks awesome!
My porn viewing can be summarised as 20% dvd and 80% internet. The quality on the net has improved dramatically and now with HD downloads the difference between dvd quality and net quality is not that huge.
I have one argument I haven't seen here yet: If I buy a dvd, let's say I don't like it. I can resell it at adultdvdmarketplace or some other site and pretty much get my money back. Maybe even more on ebay depending on the title. Thus, I saw it for free essentially. Can't do that with a web site (without breaking the law-ie copying and selling). But personally, it's more about comfort. I'd rather watch it in my dvd player on my big screen than on my computer. I understand the 2 aren't mutually exclusive, I guess I'm just not willing to go through the hassle, especially since generally my computer (laptop) stays at my office all the time, no where near my tv. I was totally disappointed when Brandon Iron quit making dvds (the 1/year he puts out at JM doesn't count IMO) and went 99% web based. His stuff is in the top 3 on my list... yet I still don't go get memberships to his sites. So I prefer like Brazzers who puts all their crap out on dvds, and I'll go ahead and buy that stuff.
You've got it spot on, I'm one of those that watches the BTS portion of the disc first too. In particular, I really enjoy films produced by Mark Wood and Francesca Le, their BTS are funny and they look like a very cool couple....a lot of performers seem to be very at easy with them. I also like the fact that they don't ask the same tired questions to all the performers, unlike some other directors, John Strong's name springs to mind. Their BTS tends to be quite long too, usually in the 30 - 40 minutes region, and if I'm totally honest, it's probably the only part of the DVD that doesn't get fast-forwarded!!!
My thoughts are this: Internet porn Pluses - I get exposed to stars I may havnt seen before - Bonus sites to fetishes or content I never considered before. But the big one for me is the Photo sets of the scenes. I love both the staged and screen shots. There is a difference in video quality but for me its quantity not quality. DVD pluses - Quality - Ownership - If I see a sceene on a website that strikes me as a total winner, Ill look for a DVD version to have and to hold. Its kind of like a Hall of Fame. The only downside for me is as a married guy w/ kids I cant keep the boxes around but they are easer to hide DVD's than VHS thats for sure. I only wish the DVD's came with all of the photo sets from the shoots and less "junk" like "easter eggs" and BTS. I like both.
Just so there is no confusion, I had a period of nearly one year with no distribution. Platinum X dropped me and JM Productions picked me up. I now put out 2 titles per month. Some are cumshot compilations and others are new series such as SHE IS HALF MY AGE. I've maintained 3 sites at www.brandoniron.com since 2006 which developed off the dvd series BAKER'S DOZEN, A GOOD SOURCE OF IRON, and 50 TO 1. No worries if you don't want to get a membership. I'm from the dvd school myself.
Its BS that dvd is of higher technical quality than most webstuff. It might have been that a year or two ago but really not today. Most websites are releasing their scenes in higher resolution than SD (DVD).
BushDVD is excellent, they have a rapid return feature that you click when you drop the DVDs in the mail that auto sends out your next batch of DVDs often before they receive them. That way you constantly have DVDs either in your posession or on the way to you. They also have a great selection, reviews are tied to Adult DVD talk so you can quickly glance at reviews without having to leave their website. Plus they ship and work on Saturdays. AdultDVDEmpire and SugarDVD, last time I checked, do not ship on Saturdays, you have to wait until Monday. Which equates to a loss of 4 days during a month, leading to a loss of at least 1 extra shipment during your monthly rental cycle. Other things BUSHDVD does is they save your rental history so if you try to add a title you rented before, it lets you know that you rented it before. They also store your ratings on titles, so you can rate titles you've already seen to avoid seeing them again. If you cancel your account, they also save your list of titles so if you want to open the account again in the future, you'll have your list of titles still in your que. So you can buildup a massive list of titles you want to see, cancel the account and come back to it months later and your list is still there. You won't have to recreate/add the titles again. I'm sure others do that stuff, but I cannot confirm which ones do. I believe XRENT does ship on Saturday's also which is nice. I'm not sure about WantedList. What it really comes down to is which place has the DVDs you want to see. AdultDVDEmpire doesn't have some of the older teen DVD series that Bush and SugarDVD do. However AdultDVDEmpire is great with the new releases and will have some of the very newest titles available that the others won't have. I'd recommend deciding ahead of time what you want to rent and search for those titles first and sign up with the place that carries the most titles you like. I've only been downloading my porn for a year or so, but with the sheer quantity of material available on the internet and the speed and ease with which you can obtain it, I can't say I'd ever go back to renting/watching DVDs. Personally, I like to see brand new stuff mixed in with my reliable standbys and be able to jump around and access specific scenes on a whim. I can be picky too, I used to compile just the parts I wanted from DVD rentals and I'd usually only come up with 5-10 minutes of decent porn from one rental.. and sometimes nothing at all -- not a very economical proposition in the long run. I get a lot more for my dollar by joining a paysite for a month and rooting through their archives for stuff to download.
Another pain in the ass for internet content would be a slow server to download from. I mean I want to be able to download a movie with my 20Mbit max especially if it's a big HD movie.
Plus for the internet is that there seems to be plenty of fisting vids from the pro's (not just amateurs) that you don't get in American DVDs Negative for internet: can't imagine they're taking pad subscriptions from those of us living in the American Taliban states
My only problem w/ the internet is that I use DSL (i know,I might as well have dial up) and downloads of HI Def porn takes forever. Now with more trailers comming in Hi Def is frustrating. Some sites let you choose the quality and I hope that doesnt change anytime soon. Some scenes I just want to watch once but some are keepers. But the onetimes dont need to be Hi Def to get me off. Maybe so, if you're talking the top-notch companies which are essentially DVD-level outfits who choose to sell their stuff on internet. Or the various DVD studios who choose to distribute web content to supplement their DVD business. But there are plenty of smaller more "amateurish" companies whose product is (technically) not as pristine. But it is still plenty good and perfectly watchable, and the authenticity and uniqueness of content makes up for any lack of glitz. Also, there's more to quality than just resolution.
Internet or dvd? Well, the internet can provide everything a dvd can, while a dvd cannot provide everything the internet can. Plus photography on dvd sucks, so the internet is definately king. While the internet provides better resolution, pretty much everyone encodes in 30 full frames per second, while dvd is nearly always 60 half-frames per second for a more fluid motion. File-size be damned, let's get the ball rolling on 60fps internet video!!! I prefer dvds only when it's a feature film, or some other grand theme that ties the whole product together. DVD's over the kiddie re-encode scene (usually at reduced resolution). I also am ripping my physical discs to HDD-typically no CSS on disc, so no DMCA worries. (Who the hell cares about DVD protection nuisances anyways) Internet though for the more explicit/extremestuff & HD quality. I've not bought a BD porn disc yet (too expensive), yet have hundreds of regular BD's.
I've sorta wondered about this though I've really never felt the need to cancel even for a month. A couple of times I've pulled back to just 2 movies at a time. I've paid them much $$ over the years and years and in return they have sent me plenty o' movies!
