I quit buying DVD's over two years ago, except for the rare "Must Have" recommendations that come along. I have been an avid subscriber to literally dozens of websites over the past 2 years instead. For the price of about 1 DVD, I can gain access to literally terabytes of a particular studio, niche or stars best works, all in the same resolution/quality as they would release on a burned DVD.
People who repeatedly talk about the "poor quality" of internet porn (resolution, not content) really need to get with the times. Some HD content out there rivals what you'll see from a non-BR DVD at a fraction of the cost. Any decent TV can play it back and assembling a home media player (or buying one like the Western Digital TV Live set top box) makes accessing your porn incredibly convenient.
And for my DVD collection? Like others, long since ripped to ISO's. Full DVD features in digital format.

I hear you and thanks for the feedback. The movie you picked up is called A CUMSHOT EVERY 5 MINUTES and it was just a goof. Probably a one-off but I'll see if it reorders well. It's not a compilation. I just shot scenes that were 5 minutes or less, that's all. Gotta try something different. Also, I've always harbored an inner hatred of performers who can keep wood for 6 hours. Wish I could, too, but my body doesn't do what it's told.
I appreciate all feedback, good and bad, but I'm the type of guy who will spend what he makes and today's market is not the place to do that, I'm afraid. Everyone has all the answers, I know. It's just that I don't have all the money.
There are ways to stay relevant and competitive working within my means. SHE IS HALF MY AGE is proof of that. Some people like it.....a lot.

yes, I got the movie yesterday and I'll watch it within a few days. I thought it was a tag line, but now see that it is in fact the title (and a good title as usual from BI).
One thing though Brandon: My suggestions that I've given you in the past really never cost any money. They were merely more like this: "If you're going to focus on niche markets like fetishists, then be the BEST at giving them what they want [at which point I gave multiple suggestions on how to accomplish this]. This is very basic "differentiation strategy" in Business. And yes, I'm just another joe perhaps Brandon. But also know that I've built MY business up from nothing and am a Business Strategy Specialist (I've won awards for that specifically and am known in Business Schools).
So I'm not just a guy with a strong wrist and drool running down his chin... I'm quite serious when I tell you things and when I get some more capital together... I might very well make you an offer to buy in but I'd only do it, IF you agreed to try my ideas. Keep this in mind Brandon: An intelligent guy with a propensity for both business strategy and innovation MIXED with an extensive history of porn research would make a very lethal combo in your business. If you're going to peddle to fetishes, you should listen closely to those with the fetishes. Porn is really no different than any business, it operates the same way.
In my industry (real estate) there is politics, there is corruption, there is blackmail, there are lots of other dangers and speed bumps... but ultimately if you run your business straight up and simply aggressively attack certain markets, with a safe (protected, no verbal agreements, etc.) and sound strategy -you will get those markets and you will achieve results. For example: I bet the average Porn company doesn't even do a "SWOT Analysis" every month... yet it's a very basic tool of business that lots of businesses use on a regular basis. And note... none of these ideas cost a dime. However, the ideas I have given you in the past are mostly about what to do more of (this again costs nothing, I simply told you about certain camera angles that are crucial to certain fetishes that frankly ALL directors ignore....) Differentiation strategy... which is FREE... you're filming anyway, why not do it the way that the target market wants you to...
And lastly, while you're over at JM, will you please teach them about cameras, lighting, and angles?????

^^ You DO realize that each and every DVD you watch on your laptop is also logged, don't you? Title and name of disc at the very least. This is how most DVD software apps know how to "resume" when you close the lid and restart them later.
If you are putting your livelihood at risk by using company hardware to watch porn (which is stupid IMO) then at least learn how to properly cover your tracks. My suggestion to you here would be to learn a little bit about technology....you can download your porn at home, drop it onto a external USB drive or thumb drive and watch it via media player, learning to flush the "recent history" folder thereafter.
Again, people really reference rather old reasons for not liking internet porn. Popups? I no longer have them, haven't for a couple of years now. And a single USB drive of around 350 Gigs (less than $100 at the store) can hold approximately eighty (80) full ISO DVD rips. It can hold far, far more if you are downloading your porn in h264 codec or similar.

Believe me, I hear you. You are not a crackpot. You are sincere. I understand and appreciate this. I can learn a lot from everyone who has a suggestion. I'm still trying my best. I've invested heavily and hope to be around for a long, long time. Improvements come with time and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make them. I have to repeat, though, that each day brings a new panacea for all my ills from someone I've never met. They like this but would like it better if I'd only do it this way or with that girl next time.
I am running a losing race, it seems. Rather than be stressed over what I'm not doing well, I choose to celebrate what is being done right.
We aren't that far apart, trust me.

Well I have never been a buyer of dvds - always a renter for 2 main reasons - if I die I don't want a huge stash of porn to be discovered by my sweet innocent neice and secondly there is very little porn that I have any desire to see more than once. In fact there are very few actresses I want to see more than once. I mean after you have seen them naked and doing all the basics what's the point of a repeat. That is what makes the Internet perfect and its only been over the past month that I have discovered the Joy of Internet Porn Downloads. There is so much stuff out there it amazes me - has every woman in America been in a porn by now - so I never have to watch the same woman or the same scene twice. Watch it, delete it. And here is the really amazing fact - lots of it is free. Really. I have downloaded about 250 gig of free porn in a matter of weeks - enough to last me for ages - and in every size and shape, in every color and language and nationality. Pretty much anything you want is out there waiting for you. Dwarves with giant breasts and bigger dicks who dance around a campfire? I am sure its out there somewhere. And then from what I have seen, the good legit Pay sites are incredible bargains - volume is their game and the whole world is a potential customer so they give away the whole shop for $30 a month in which you can probably download everything they have. It makes no sense buying dvds, they are dinosaurs.

No, it's not free. Someone paid to produce that 250 gigs of porn you downloaded. You are a thief.

On the other hand, a website offers so much more quantity...basically: 1month website cost = 1 dvd cost. Generally you get 2 or 3 "worthy" scenes out of 5 or 6 scenes on a dvd. And you get 10+ "worthy" scenes out of 100+ scenes on a website, plus lots of high-quality photographs which DVD's don't offer at all. (Those DVD slideshow pics are crappy quality and crappy selection and small quantity)

There's been talks of doing one on here before I think. Someone mentioned that there's a really good one at another forum....i'm thinking FreeOnes? I was actually thinking about trying to find that thread/post/whatever today when i was daydreaming at work. I wasn't gonna look for it AT work, I was just thinking that it's something I need to do when I get online. Maybe someone will link to it? That would be bodacious.

I was hoping at this time I would have switched from DVD to blu-ray but the adult-industry is not very blu-ray friendly. Only a few companies are releasing blu-ray movies and they're expensive as hell.

^Maybe has something to do with the popularity of internet video and ipod video and such. If so many viewers are apparently content with postage-stamp sized video in crappy quality, it's quite a gamble for a producer to spend extra money to offer Blu-Ray. And the customer who really wants Blu-ray must be some kind of fanatic, so they will be willing to pay extra extra for it. That's what the producers are thinking. I think.

Internet porn is generally more raw and you can find stuff they just don't put on DVDs in America.
BUT, internet porn is also a pain in the ass unless you have a lot of time, a blazing connection and you want to mess around with constantly buying hard drives. Not to mention the fact that if you don't have a backup copy of anything you put on a hard drive, you lose it if you kill the hard drive somehow (Or it just dies of unknown causes).
DVD porn obviously used to be way better quality but some internet porn has caught up and in some cases, surpassed it. I would love to have the variety of internet porn available on DVD but it's obviously not safe for anyone to ship it everywhere.

Personally, I suspect that Blue-Ray will not have as long a lifespan as enjoyed by the DVD. Digital distribution, regardless of the RIAA's resistance to it, is happening. And happening quickly. It may not take the form of iTunes movies, but movies on demand are very big business and puts a lot of revenue into the pipeline.
We have a Blue-Ray player. And to be blunt, I feel like I'm looking at the future "LaserDisc" format. I had one of those too (still do!). I just think it will be bypassed by digital media altogether. That is where all the action and investment is right now.
I've a hunch that the future of recorded media will take the form of home media players where you buy a license right to a digital movie, have it xferred to your home media server (fancier DVR than what you get with cable/Uverse/Dish service, but very similar and easy to install/use for the average joe) and that box allows you to share the digital media on a limited number of other boxes on the same network, using a DRM mechanism that must "see" your network (WiFi or wired) to get an authorization token to play it and be refreshed every so often or the file locks.
I don't think physical media will be around a whole lot longer. The world is moving on.

^ The problem with digital distribution in the way you describe it is that these types of schemes are usually not as easy to use as they are envisioned as being conceptually. It is almost always more complicated than picking up a tape or a disc, putting it in your player and pressing play.
I still rent movies from a local video store nearly every week. I still see plenty of people in there. I can tell by looking around in there that the store doesn't do as much business as it used to. Things are looking a little run down and so forth but they still do good business. And frankly, I like going there and don't find it the slightest bit inconvenient.

I still mostly buy DVD's, but I have a 21Sextury membership that gives me a ton of content that I'll never have time to watch. I really, really appreciate the convenience of being able to store the internet content on portable hard drives and over the next year, I would like to start getting my vast DVD collection burned to portable hard drives as well.
Going forward, I would like to see studios sell scenes off their websites a la carte. So, if Elegant Angel has Tori Black in a new DVD, I can just go to the site and pay $5.00 (or whatever) for the scene.

On the quality thing, Brazzers do 1080p scenes, has anyone played a scene off there onto a big screen plasma? How does it compare to DVD or Blu-ray discs?

In my opinion, it isn't quite as clear as the hi-def Blue Ray/HD DVD porn discs I do have (I only have a few). But it is far clearer than any of my normal non-HD DVD's. In theory, it should look 100% the same but a lot of this has to do with codecs and the type of device you stream the image from locally. In my case, I was streaming over a wired network off a NAS.
To put this into perspective, your Cable/Dish/Uverse HD channels look really, really good right? They should if you have a good setup and decent signal coming into your house and set-top boxes. My Uverse HD channels look incredible and so did my Dish HD channels before that. But when I record an HD channel to my DVR for later playback, sometimes there are little artifacts that show up occasionally. This is almost always the result of streaming speed off the DVR's hard drive, little imperfections in the encoded file, etc. Internet downloaded HD content is no different really.

Streaming speeds of harddrives have nothing to do with that they are fast enough to be more than capable to stream full hd scenes! Artifacts in the picture usually have to do with the bitrate and the way it is encoded (TV channels usually encode their footage on the fly unlike downloads or footage on optical discs). Many TV channels have a bitrate that's not high enough for certain scenes (typically fast action scenes or burning fires).
It's the same with internet HD porn, when it doesn't look that good it is always due to the high compression the sites choose to limit file size. That's why so far none of the 1080p stuff you get on the web rivals Blu-ray in picture quality because it is almost half the bitrate and size (but the same codec). You will only notice a difference on very big screens though.

In my mind I just don't trust hard drives and "ephermal" data. I like that it might be possible now to get scene subscription service (download all web content from a favorite company like say Evil Angel or BangBros.
Hard core content from girls like Raven Riley from their webpage that usually isn't collected onto the diminished (as opposed to CD'sd ying) format of DVD
But utlimately, just like I do with my Ipod, I want to have the primay medium of aluminum (DVDs) as a back up and rip individual scenes to my hard drive.
I don't usually like every scene on a DVD, but often will buy a copy for a favorite girl and I just want a collection of those scenes tailor made to my tastes with folders.
Then if my hard drive pukes I at least have the DVD source as a backup.

One more thing, same as why I still buy CDs to try and keep my local indie record store alive, I buy most of my porn to try and keep that industry from being too diminished.
B/c the companies that get shaked out in this diminished paying market are gonna the ones that put out the stuff I like not the crappy major labels.

Indeed. All my media is stored on a massive server in the basement and served up to all the TVs in the house via media centers.

I have no problem having my porn out, but for various reasons I am "encouraged" to keep it hidden away by my SO. Luckily, it's my work, and I have a lovely office packed to the gills with movies, memorabilia, and posters. I just keep the door shut.

I only buy lesbian movies on DVD (and so far all ~25 I have are from one studio, Viv Thomas) - everything else, including a lot more lesbian scenes, I download/stream online. I rarely have fewer than five recurring paysite memberships at any given time (plus AEBN for almost everything else I need to find).
I've been thinking about checking out porn on Blu-ray (I've been buying all my mainstream movies on BD the last two years), but a few things have been holding me back, first and foremost that I'm not really sure where to order here in Europe (I don't feel like waiting a couple of weeks if I order in the US, and possibly ending up with extra customs fees), but also because several of my favourite studios/paysites now have 1080p, 8000 kbit downloads that probably aren't too far from the quality of the Blu-ray versions (assuming such where available, which they aren't in most cases).

Not true. What you are seeing on the internet is highly compressed. Just because the frame size may be larger than SD 72 hex 486 doesn't mean the quality is better.
The size of those internet files would be astronomical if they were at same bitrate as DVD. With respect to HD 192 hex 1080 is so huge that if not highly compressed you could never watch it on any browser and it would take countless hours if not days to download.

You know, I hate what the internet has done to porn. Porn used to have acting, costumes and really neat scripts. The internet is flooded with a bunch of naked asses. When you look at them for too long, they start to look the same. You never felt sympathy for the stars, because you knew that they were making thousands. Now, girls are probably making 200 and it's just sad.

Unless your a die hard fan of porn and it's stars, (Which most people on this site are) I think it's really stupid to pay a ton of money on porn.
I personally could care less about HD or BLUE-RAY, what IS free or what ISN'T free..etc...such as that. I get whatever I think is hot to me. This is why I generally toggle between DVD'S and the INTERNET.
I can get the scenes, or girls I want, either by downloading, or collecting them from dvd's. I only pay for the pay sites when enough scenes have accumulated with the type of genre, or girls, that I like. There's no need to pay every month when I will only probably download maybe 1 or 2 scenes in that month.
As far as the internet is concerened, I think it is the BEST thing that's happened for porn. There is so much more you can do today, as opposed to even 5 years ago.
I used to buy dvd's more, but now it's just not financially feasable, with what the internet has to offer.

I can't afford the dvds and even if I could I wouldn't go out and buy them because it makes me feel ashamed to be seen with porn in public. I can afford the internet. And there are an infinite amount of choices. Internet rules.

It's a bit of a double edged sword. I fully understand why the end users love the internet, but on the other hand it creates a real problem for producers. Since so much is available for 'nothing' it's driven down budgets and ultimately production value to produce... so there is much more available, but there is less quality for those who like a little storyline or interesting costumes, locations etc.

I am a DVD collector. My collection is pornstar driven, therefore, unless there is a website which offers the full range of porn across studio lines, online porn is an undesirably limited option and a financial identity risk. I am concerned that porn has not gone Blue Ray. Various studios could charge the same prices, produce a more appealling product and make more money by selling more discs. As long as the Blue Ray discs are truly HD, prices can stay relatively the same like those of the mainstream movie industry and sales will increase.

The Internet isn't to blame for that. Gonzo-style porn is to blame for that. Gonzo predates the internet, although the internet is almost custom-tailored for distribution of gonzo porn as gonzo is scene rather than feature oriented.

Money has nothing to do with whether or not I feel "sympathy" for the stars - that's a bit skewed, in my opinion. Besides, Georgina Spelvin says in her autobio that she was only making a couple of hundred a day, which isn't much even taking inflation into consideration. I never feel "sympathy" for stars if I feel they're doing something they are comfortable with, are proud of, or do a good job and feel good about it at the end of the day. Sympathy is the wrong word anyway.

Why not buy yourself a personal laptop computer and a cell phone stick and watch your DVD's or internet movies on that? No employer will question what you do with your personal computer on off time. Overly paternalistic companies think that their computers are only for business and make it a fireable offense to use it for internet surfing, so I would just use a laptop that I own, pay for my own cellular internet and do what I want with it (if I had a traveling job). You can even deduct part of the cost on your taxes! Also, most employers would approve of this because then they don't have to pay for it out of their budgets. Even if you have to carry around two computers, if you like porn that much it is probably worth it.

Blu Ray Rip->Blu Ray Disc->HD Download->DVD Rip->DVD Disc->SD Download.
I am moving everything to Hard Drives and plan on dumping my 2000+ DVD/BD physical collection after I rip them.
Physical optical discs + jewel cases take up a shitload of space on shelves.

You aren't alone. This is where porn collecting is heading for the savvy consumer.
I wish more porn producers who read this would realize that for those of us who still PAY for our porn, we want you to keep up with our needs and wants and we will PAY you to take the time to give us high quality encodes that we can download ourselves and skip all the time necessary to burn our own.

I have to disappoint you. Lately I work more for Internet companies than DVD.
