I think her time in the industry doesn't have that much to do with it. From what I can tell Lisa had 2 eras in porn. I didn't know anything about her early career but it seems she didn't have anywhere near the success she has now after starting her "MILF" era...which in porn terms may be considered long but not really. In my mind her early career has no real bearing on her current career success because it was so different.
I think Lisa Ann success is mostly about her working hard and being willing to appear in movies from most of the studios from the bigger to the smaller ones and building a fanbase that follows her from project to project. Plus she's just a very versatile performer that's able to appear in so many different types of movies/scenes from features to big butt to big boobs to MILF to IR to gangbangs, etc... A key part of her longevity is she's able to bounce around all over porn and leave a porn genre before fans get tired of her.
Someone like Alexis Texas for example couldn't maintain that type of success because she limited herself. Cute girl with the big butt with a long list of things she won't do can only last so long.

I have to disagree with you because longevity is everything in porn. Lisa was 22 when she started doing porn and about 26 when she left. She came back at about 30 and the bulk of her movies are before the age of 40 so she hasn't necessarily been a MILF for the bulk of her career. I usually consider that women under 35 aren't really MILF even though they probably are in real life. Any performer that can sustain a porn career for more than 5 years is a true porn star but any that can do it for a decade is a legend. After all no performer could work for a decade if she wasn't getting requested by the different studios.
Alexis may be considered a porn star because of longevity but she will never reach the level of legendary porn star like Lisa Ann.

Lisa Ann has really milked a couple of things to achieve achieve recognition. Specifically, her appearance in "Who's Nailin Paylin" and the ESPN coverage of some kid at Oklahoma State who got himself on tv with a sign referring to her. Both things got quite a bit of mainstream non-porn media coverage.
She's had a lot more succesful porn career than anyone would expect for a cum dodger who is [mod edit: comment removed. See the ADT forum etiquette, 3rd paragraph.]

Longevity doesn't really have much to do with Lisa Ann's current success from most fans point of view. The Lisa Ann of her early career and the current Lisa Ann are for the most part two different performers. Lisa Ann basically re-invented herself for the second part of her porn career. If Lisa can stayed the same type of performer and did the same type of movies and scenes now that she did back then she wouldn't have can anywhere near the same type of success she has now. Lisa's last few years in porn totally outshines most if not all of her output of her entire career before her comeback even though that era of her career was longer. Her "MILF" era is where she gained most of that success and popularity.
Yeah, but that your own made up criteria. Porn (and most of society) says otherwise.
I disagree with you on that one too. The term "Legend" should mean something more than being able to stick it out in porn or keep getting work. I think the term "Legend" should be more about doing work that puts a performer above her/his peers and having an impact in porn. There are performers who've been in porns for many years who never hae risen above "B" or "C" level pornstars. Then there are performers who made their mark in a short amount of time (or short amount of movies) and made a bigger impact. I'm not a fan of Jenna Jameson and don't think she was a great performer but I would say she's a legend because of her impact in porn. I would say Sasha Grey is more of a legend than most girls who've been around much longer and have done much work. The "classic" performers of years ago didn't last os long or work as much as many of the performers today but are considered legends because they blazed the trail.
It's not too late for Alexis Texas to become a legend or recapture her early success but she'd have to re-invent herself like Lisa Ann, Julia Ann or Alexis Ford did and become a more adventurous performer.
I named names to make my point but of course some people will dissmiss those girls simply because they don't like them, think they're over-rated or whatever.

A couple of things:
- The OP's original question was "Is Alexis Texas The Biggest Name In Porn Right Now." The answer is probably no, because she's been off the radar for some time. If someone compelled me to answer that question, I'd have to say Asa Akira, because of of her incredible body of work and the crossover success of her book. She's hot right now, probably hotter than everyone else, based on crossover potential. I'm waiting for the movie rights to be optioned.
- According to a biography, Lisa Ann left the business in 1997 because of an AIDs scare and spent several years touring as a feature dancer. Her returned to the industry as an agent, and in 2005 AVN announced her return to performing. She's been performing steadily since 2006, but she worked steadily in her early years, so I don't think her career could be classified as unsuccessful. Had she not decided to leave, she likely would have worked steadily through that period and her career would have evolved. I don't think Lisa Ann "re-invented herself." She simply restarted her career.
- The definition of legend is "an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field." Lisa Ann certainly fits the definition. She may not be an innovator or a pioneer, per se, but she's been in it for the long haul, worn more than one hat in this industry, and is a tremendous performer.

While I don't think her early career was necessarily the catalyst for her late-career success, I do think she wouldn't have reached the level she did in her "MILF career" without that early start. Without her already having made a name for herself, I don't think she gets anywhere near the amount of booking she did in her comeback in 2005, as she'd just be another MILF entering the industry in the mid 2000s, during which time there were a ton of performers entering the industry.
I think the bigger aspect was actually her running her agency for a few years before returning to performing, as that's why, as has been said earlier, when she came back she was able to shoot with a whole bunch of different companies and performers. She had relationships with all of them because she'd dealt with all of them as an agent.
But in the end the absolute biggest aspect of her late career success was the Palin parody. She was able to get in on that right as Palin was starting to get national recognition, and that basically spread her name as far across the country as any porn performer since Jenna Jameson (especially when it comes to people who don't necessarily watch porn very frequently). Because the hardest part about becoming famous as a porn performer is actually just getting people to find out who you are.

Well put. I can go with that. I wasn't sure about the background details but I think her actual actions of how she handled her career paid off because she was smart about it. We see many women who leave and re-enter porn and don't have that type of success and we see pornstars who get "mainstream" recognition and become well known but it doesn't seem to impact their porn careers in any major way. Mostly because they simply keep doing the same stuff they always have and porn viewers don't have much to get excited over or they don't grow their core audience because they don't venture out into other types of porn. There's a large segmen of the porn audience who will never really care about Jenna Jameson because she never did stuff that appeals to them. Many girls make comeback that don't work out that well because they come back doing the extact same type of stuff they did before they left and that audience gets bored with it rather quickly. Janine had a successful comeback because she did things she hadn't before (boy/girl).
Also, when I say Lisa Ann "re-invented" herself I can see how some would say she didn't really but when I look at what she looked like back then and wht she was doing I consider it a "re-invention". She came back with bigger breasts and a fuller figure and started doing Gonzo more and rode the MILF bangwagon. From there she started doing more and more hardcore stuff and different types of porn. Her later career is so diffrent from her early career I say she re-invented herself.

I think you are missing the point. It is impossible to remain in porn if no one buys your movies because studios will not hire you. The fact that Lisa Ann has been able to do so means that she is a true porn legend. How about you name me one porn performer that has been in the industry for as long as LIsa but isn't getting work?
I never said that it was too late. She is young enough to make a come back but she can't do so if vanilla porn is all she wants to do. I don't even think it's possible for her to make decent comeback because the infrastructures aren't there anymore. There are now too few studios shooting porn for her to become the popular star she once was.

I'd put Asa Akira up there and perhaps her book may put her over the top but it's hard to tell if it's affecting her sales in a major way. Last year I'd say the most popular/biggest names in porn were Lisa Ann, Asa Akira and Pheonix Marie because they seemed like they were everywhere and working like crazy. But that's only one way to measure that type of thing. One could argue that Riley Reed is just as or more popular because she is/was the hot girl of the moment in the same way Alexis Texas was for awhile. Riley is at a disadvantage because the porn industry isn't as strong during her time as it was for Alexis but I think Riley's popularity won't drop off as quickly as Alexis' did.

I don't think so. You said or implied that a girl should be considered a "Legend" simply for having a long porn career. I disagreed and explained why. Being able to sustain a porn career is impressive but not the stuff or legends or even meaning the girl had a large fanbase that kept her afloat.
I see getting hired and being popular or being a "legend" as completely different things. There are girls who aren't that popular that get work because they're easy to work with or dependable. They have their fans but they aren't "big' names in porn. There are girls who I think of as the backbone of the industry because they are the girls who directors/studios get to fill out the rest of the video/movie scenes when they use the big name performers up front to sell the movie. I hate to name names because some people may be a fan of that girl and defend her just for the sake of defending her but....I think Lucious Lopez is a great performer that always delivers but she isn't a big name. She worked a lot but I don't think she'd be able to move much product on the strength of her name alone. She didn't get that many covers, I rarely see her mentioned, and I don't think I've ever seen a compilation movie devoted to her. Yet she worked constantly during her time. There are many girls in porn like that. Nothing wrong with having that type of career but I don't consider it the career or a "legend"

Now that you put them all in the same line I couldn't help but notice that the last three you mentioned pushed their career up when they started doing IR. Lisa Ann actually did since her beginning but went on contract and was stopped she then reached new notoriety playing as Palin and doing plenty IR , Thelisaann.com was literally filled with IR scenes at first . Julia Ann begun later but was still under contract
both did so many IR scenes and so consistently that is even difficult to remember there was a time they didn't any.
Alexis Ford according to some interviews had even problems at home because she was dating so many black guys , but as it happened before for Lisa and Julia she was prevented from doing IR throughout her contract , her second life in porn took off after her Darkside and the fact she begun doing IR.
(there's another thing among them but it's unrelated to the topic, anyway here it is they're all of Italian descent)
I'm not much of a fan of Alexis Texas but she is so much requested for IR that she really might be rocketed up to a whole new career if she would do it , even more than the other three, in fact she's natural the other three got implants all

^It would definitely be a huge boost. I don't usually pay attention to the color of the dicks in porn yet I have Alexis Texas on a "1st IR" watchlist. Even TMZ had a video segment about her dodgery.

When I think of the term "biggest name" I think of someone who has made a breakthrough beyond the porn community and into the larger culture. Jenna Jameson did it. Tera Patrick did it. Asa Akira has done that this year. Lisa Ann did that. The other two you mentioned have not. They've worked a lot, which is great for them and their fans (in the end, it's about working), but outside of their porn community they're not known.

really?
That's called popularity , a big star in porn might not have such popularity out of it.
I mean good athletes are those who play well or those who are known out of their sports?

We're not talking about mainstream popularity. We're talking about crossover recognition, coverage beyond the porn press. There are no porn stars who are household names, but if some can gain recognition beyond AVN and XBIZ, to have people see them in three dimensions, that's a good thing.

Doing IR can have a big effect on a girl's career. IR fans account for a big part of porn's audience. It means more work and a fanbase that would probably not watch that girl otherwise. I don't doing IR will have a big effect on a girl's acreer though. There are some girls who are "B" and "C" listers that if they started doing IR not many people will care or notice. Or there are some so big it wouldn't really matter that much. I think Jesse Jane could do IR and it would be a big deal but I don't know if it would make her more popular to the extent it boots her career. It would be like when Janine did IR. That was a big deal but I don't think it made her any "bigger". Although...if she had done those IR scenmes for someone like JULES JORDAN or EVIL ANGEL it might've been a different story.
Girls some fans really want to see do IR like Alexis Texas or Nikki Benz I think would only be a big deal for that first movie and after that I don't think those fans would care much. Right now they're that forbidden fruit that they can't have and that makes them more alluring. If those fans ever got to actually "taste" that fruit they'd quickly realize the idea of them doing IR is much more exciting than them actually doing it.

I don't know if I agree with that. Mary Carey, Katie Morgan, Tabitha Stevens, and Stormy Daniels are known by the mainstream audience and it doesn't/didn't seem to help their porn popularity.

Mary Carey, Stormy Daniels and Tabitha Stevens were in the news for mostly the wrong reasons. Katie Morgan was clearly trying to transition out of the adult industry by with her HBO specials and the Zack and Miri movie. None of th ese women and good examples, IMO.

They weren't that popular or good at porn before they became known in the mainstream.

Well, that ain't right. Tabitha Stevens is an AVN Hall of Famer who appeared in over 300 films. Stormy was called "The New Queen Of X" by Girls Of Penthouse magazine. She also an AVN Hall of Famer. She didn't do IR, which pissed some people off (I didn't care one way or the other), but she was huge.
Mary Carey and Katie Morgan might not have been as accomplished and as popular as the other two, but they had their following.
Don't tell me they weren't popular. That's just wrong. Whether or not they were good is strictly your opinion.
