| Melvyn Senior Member 2797 Posts 12/12 | A thug or gangbanger is interesting. Hollywood for about a century has romanticized gangsters and thugs and it's always been a theme that captivates audiences, even back to the times of the 19th century when they would sell nickel books about outlaws like Jesse James. And even before that time was a cultural fascination with pirates. People have always found bad guys compelling. With that said, what does bother me, not just from the consumer perspective but also as an aspiring artist, is laziness. I don't like cookie-cutter, rote portraits. So I don't think we should object to portrayals of thugs or criminals, but rather if that's the only role. And I think most audiences actually appreciate the same thing Escaped_Slave is getting at. It's actually refreshing to just show regular and varied roles of brothas. It's more relatable now too. But that's the thing about escapism. Some folk like fantasies that are very far removed from their real lived experience, while others prefer more identifiable and relatable themes. Everyone has their own preferences, and for many, they probably have a mix of both. So I'm also a fan of the direction things are going with this IR renaissance. Yet I will continue to defend everyone's entitlements to their own fantasies, however politically incorrect or bizarre. I believe everyone has their own blend of appreciation for neutral+natural or freaky+fantastic, whether its 1:1, 9:1, or 1:9, I think diversity of opinion as as important as diversity on the surface. | Melvyn Senior Member 2797 Posts 12/12 | I wonder what the research shows about correlating data of girls with tattoos and sexual experience. Sometimes results are surprising. Other times, it merely confirms a bias or stigma. For my two cents I think the aversion to tats, to such an absolute intolerance, is highly lame. But I dont think anyone can really to tell Lansky and Co. how to run their business, can they? Perhaps is a poll is made, and enough of their members are open to getting a babe with ink on her, I don't see why they would resist that. I bet if Christie Mack approached Blacked they would have to reconsider. It may just take a superstar. Who knows? |
| Melvyn Senior Member 2797 Posts 12/12 | I understand the "motif" of the plain skin "pure" inexperienced young ladies. It's why the "teen" genre is always among the top selling categories. But it's not the only one. MILF genre is highly popular too. I hear what you are saying and a brand should not compromise their integrity or forsake the principles which gained them success, but there is also the virtue of diversifying appeal. Not only does it not hurt to experiment with formula, it can result in an unexpected boon. If I was calling shots, I wouldn't hesitate to cast Katrina Jade. She doesn't fit the type, someone says? Then come up with a more interesting scenario for a new type, whatever you think her type is. This presents a new challenge, and IMO rising to this challenge is exactly what improves a brand. Make the story about a girl who is very rebellious and individualistic, and yet sexually repressed. Blacked likes to use voice-over narration. So write up a simple story for Katrina's character where she explains to the audience how she never got intimate with a guy, or she never found one who interested her. "Until one day..." Honestly this isn't hard. |

Again, if the demand for...whatever they aren't doing is strong enough, better that they start a new line than compromise the success they have with this one. I'm not even talking as a big BLACKED fan because I'm still indifferent to them. But talking from the point of view of someone who a person who likes having specific types of entertainment without it being compromised/changed/ruin by people who insist it changes to suit them. Particularly when there's plenty of what they want already being produced. My opinion. Maybe BLACKED will change but I don't think they should. |

| whatsatelephonebill Senior Member 2935 Posts 10/11 | Except that Blacked DOES make exceptions. Ever since they first started, to be honest. Cherie DeVille was one of the first scenes they released, IIRC. Kendra Lust has a scene. Chanel Preston has a scene. Capri Cavanni has a scene (not a teen, has implants, and probably has the biggest tattoo of anyone they've ever shot). None of those women fit their type. Asking them to make another exception shouldn't be seen as a huge deal. |

| whatsatelephonebill Senior Member 2935 Posts 10/11 | But where that point is such a nebulous idea that thinking that people shouldn't be asking in the first place just doesn't make any sense. The honest truth is that if they think the scene/girl will be popular enough (not just to their fanbase, but in general), they'll make an exception. I'd honestly make an argument that with Katrina Jade specifically, the biggest issue isn't so much the tattoos (don't get me wrong, they are an issue), but a combination of her already having shot a good amount of interracial scenes (which is the thing that most of their exceptions do have in common, a lack of overall IR scenes before their Blacked scenes) and the fact that she's not quite popular enough to warrant an exception. In other words, while Katrina Jade probably doesn't get that exception, someone like Peta Jensen might. Edited by - whatsatelephonebill on 2/6/2016 10:53:58 PM |
| Draxxx Senior Member 3831 Posts 2/07 | Again, just my opinion. You obviously think differently. |
| misspornUSA Senior Member I ♥ the male gaze (and Palestine). 8737 Posts 11/13 | I recall hearing that Lansky did a Reddit AMA recently. Perhaps someone brought up the tattoo issue there? |
| whatsatelephonebill Senior Member 2935 Posts 10/11 | I bring up Peta because Blacked avoids implants almost as much as they avoid tattoos. Peta has implants but minimal tats, Katrina has visible tats but no implants. And I'm saying that if Katrina hadn't shot IR up to this point (like Peta), the conversation would be completely different. They did bring up tattoos in his AMA. You specifically don't have to find anything wrong with it the "thug persona or portrayal". If it doesn't target you or your ethnic group then what the hell does it matter. Speaking as a man of color I know this fits into the perfect stereotypical way of how a majority of white American's, who watch porn, see black men and men of color. A singer, a dancer, an athlete or a thug. A thug is a piece of garbage and NOT a bad boy. I'll get a little personal here and give a story of when I was in college and I was talking to two very professional black women who worked in the admin office. They made it pretty clear I wasn't anything for them. I didn't have enough "pimp juice" to talk to them. Funny since they were educated themselves. But when two idiots from the hood somewhere walked up on them they quite visibly got all hot and bothered. Yeah, makes perfect sense. They had college educations so why not get with a guy who would do not jack shit for them. Just ignore the guy who is getting an education and would graduate with a degree in electrical engineering. BLACKED stays the hell away from such stereotypes in case this hasn't been made abundantly clear to you and others. There is no "thug" persona on their site or involved in their storylines. The black men are professionals whether you can see that clearly or not. Even the others portrayed as athletes aren't falling into the BS stereotypes. I haven't seen 100% of their scenes, but this is my take on it and YES, it has evolved the genre. Whether he is the nicest guy in the world or not this is why I didn't like seeing Prince in BLACKED scenes. I don't want one dude with boots and knee pads in any scene. I saw enough of that with the Justin Slayer movies in the late '90s. |

To me, a thug is a violent person without respect for others. They can be smart or stupid, but mostly they are ignorant and psychopathic. And it should go without saying they come in any color or class. I've never heard about Wesley being violent, or any other black porn performer for that matter. None of them are thugs in my book. Take note of who has a problem with it and who ascribes such terms to black male performers. It's almost invariably the people complaining about some IR porno who are the ones calling them thugs. Prince wearing boots doesn't make him a thug. I'm so fucking sick of reading shit like this. Just let the performers do what they want to do. I promise you'll get much better results that way. We have to stop micro-managing and handling every aspect of their personal expression. What we should find is that some performers are keen on the accoutrements of a so-called "thug" (which is still far from constituting actual thuggery, bc it's only superficial) while others are not. We can and must respect both. That's real progress. That's real tolerance. Show respect for both. Quit shunning performers. You know how there's slut shaming? There's a similar thing happening with black culture called thug-shaming. And it operates with the same sense of misappropriation. Just because a female is sex positive and not inhibited about her sexuality does not make her a slut. Just because a brotha is into flashy jewelry or rocking Timbs on set doesn't make him a thug. It's a shame stuff like this has to be spelled out. These dudes are not ACTUAL thugs so quit calling them that. And just because now and then a porno script may entail some thuggish CHARACTERS does not make the PERFORMERS thugs. It makes as much sense to call Al Pacino a drug cartel cuz he played one in Scarface. Denzel is not an actual corrupt cop just cuz he played one in Training Day. Sometimes those goofy fucks at Dogfart do some provocative scenarios which entail some form of physical intimidation (pretty much exclusively targeting some white male punk) but how is that any more at the expense of black men than white men? I'm quite sure for any of their audience who feels any type of way about that, one way or the other, is glorifying the black guys. By far the most degraded demographic on Dogfart is the wimpy white cuckolds. But I don't see white dudes up in arms to take down Dogfart. |

See, we both appreciate Blacked, but where we seem to diverge is I appreciate a lot more than just Blacked. FWIW, the industry is sorely missing Justin Slayer's productions. That represented black adult filmmakers running the show and doing what they want and getting the girls they wanted. Why must there be something wrong with that? You act like there is something dangerously harmful happening with letting black men running the show. But I could be conflating yours with the arguments of some other outspoken critics of traditional IR. What do you think of MimeFreak's product? Blacked has many things going for it, but they are certainly the vision of a white man, one Greg Lansky, and increasingly the product comes off as a mechanical and corporate thing. It's so oppressively inhibited, I'm just waiting for more people to realize. In my eyes, Dogfart and Blacked could represent the polar ends of the popular IR spectrum. But they are BOTH missing something. Where is the freakiness? Go back and watch Friday's scene with Justin Slayer from 2006's "Big Booty Moms." Rewinding the clock 10 years, let's take a look at what ADT's own Long Noel had to say: https://www.adultdvdtalk.com/review/justin-slayers-big-booty-moms "HIGHLIGHTS: The biggest highlight of this flick was the scene with Friday. Friday starred in “Ass Worship 4”, but in here, she’s gained a little weight and got some real booty up under her back! Her scene with Justin was very enthusiastic, rough in some areas (thanks to some face-slapping and rough ass slapping) and this was the best that I’ve seen her and it made me like her fine ass a lot. Now, Friday wanted Justin Slayer to fuck her in the ass. After two attempts, she just couldn’t handle it, because he was too big to get in that ass. So, since he was too big for her, they just stuck to vaginal sex in various positions, which was very, very hot. The sex in this scene was off the hook and included some drawn-out booty shots! And so, this is one of the best interracial scenes I have ever seen in my life." In his LIFE, fam. lol But he left out the best aspect of that scene, which was that it goes from the from the bed to the floor, from inside to outdoor, and even for an impromptu dip in the pool in the middle. It's a world-tour supreme gonzo fuck with more energy and authentic passion than we get in most entire skin flicks. So there's some mild slapping. Does that make him a reckless thug giving black men a poor image? Come on. She LOVED IT. He knew what he was doing. I sometimes get the feeling dudes like you worry about what happens when brothas have control. That's why yall don't like HushHush or Justin Slayer or Rico Strong and Alexander Devoe. Forget Dogfart, I've never been wild about that brand. They don't represent brothas in control anyway. But neither does Blacked. The control or agency you think Blacked presents black men with is just ostensible. They aren't calling shots or controlling the camera. The closest I've seen current IR come to reigniting that totally uninhibited and authentic passion of those J-Slay scenes was with Karmen Karma and Rob Piper from Karma's a Bitch "Hard Interracial Fucking". http://www.archangelvideo.com/tour/updates/Karmen-Karma-Hard-Interracial-Fucking.html MimeFreak is a talented and creative force behind the camera, and he knows how to keep things fresh, when to seize on an idea, and when to just let performers fuck and do what they wanna do! I'm sick of this current self-conscious and inhibiting repression coming from the corporatized gatekeepers at the top who are too scared to let freakiness happen anymore. Being progressive is one thing, but being so overly critical and worried about someone else saying "that's too freaky" or "That's too debauched" or "this just won't do" on account of 1 in every 1,000 porn fans possibly being "offended" is no longer progressive. It's regressive. When 999 people who want to see freaky sex have to kowtow to the 1/10th of 1% who goes into a tizzy about how "unseemly" a particular porno is, you're killing humanity. Seriously. Fucking killing shit with lame and boring snoozers. Let pornstars fuck hard. Let them slap each other and smack titties around and slap asses if they want to. If they are feeling each other and want to go for it, why should anyone try and regulate and stop that? Stop worrying about every little potentially un-PC glance. Anyway I'll leave it with that for now. Rest of what I've spoken on this matter can be read in the "Is IR becoming too PC" thread. Edited by - Melvyn on 5/3/2016 3:18:17 AM |
| DVDstuff All-Star Member 2966 Posts 9/14 | Hard to explain to you, but I'll try again. You don't have to be "in charge" to be some thug ass fool with your pants hanging off your ass. You don't have to be "in charge" to have any of the other stereotypical bullshit scene in thousands of porn movies before perpertrated! As I said you can be a black man in business, just like myself, or even in the NBA (which one of the scenes in that BLACKED shot is) and not fit these stereotypes!!! The name of the thread is ... "Is the IR genre going through an evolution?!!" ... And the answer is a most definitive YES specifically because of companies like BLACKED that started showing up. And their popularity isn't because they keep doing the same shit that Slayer was doing going on 20 years ago. With more interracial marriages in this country than ever before you would be hard pressed to show me the numbers that say every white woman marries a black man who dresses like he's 15 years old and hangs out doing nothing all day. But hey, go for it. I dare you to find this sort of evidence. To evolve doesn't mean to try the same things over and over again. You evolve by becoming more than what you were before. And by the way I have seen and own "Big Booty Moms". I know that scene and loved it for all the reasons you described. I love and watch adult movies for chemistry, which is exactly what they had in that scene. |
| Melvyn Senior Member 2797 Posts 12/12 | You said "You don't have to be "in charge" to be some thug ass fool with your pants hanging off your ass. You don't have to be "in charge" to have any of the other stereotypical bullshit scene in thousands of porn movies before perpertrated!" I think the point you're trying to make is, you don't have to be some thug ass fool with your pants hanging off your ass to be "in charge." That was the point I was already making. There's different ways to do it. But your take is that if Rico wants to rock the chain and fitted and have his pants sagging, then he's doing it wrong. That's your OPINION about how he wishes to express himself. There is nothing objectively wrong about it. It seems your take is when Shane and Boz and Richard Mann were doing their thing, running the show on HushHush, then you felt they were doing it wrong. But that's just your OPINION about how they wished to comport themselves. You cannot tell me they were not doing things how they wanted to do it. That much is abundantly clear. My take is we should RESPECT that. You and too many others seem incapable of respecting that. I understand your demand for classy and glamorous. That's fine. I can respect either route performers wanna go. That's the key difference here. You get caught up in stereotypes and stigma, because you think there's something inherently wrong with them expressing themselves how they want to if it doesn't suit your sensibilities. Sorry man but I just can't be so judgmental. What is most important to me is not putting on airs and presenting oneself as hoity-toity, regal, dignified and all that. There's nothing wrong with that, if that's how you want to do you. I'm just saying it is not important. What is important is the result. Is the product exciting? Does it looks like fun? Or does it look like they spent too much time polishing and refining? You know good and well that the current scene is sorely missing Justin Slayer's brand. It doesn't mean everyone has to copy that model, but running from it is a bad idea. J-Slay and co were scouting bodacious babes of all colors. They showed love to not just diverse ethnicity, but diverse body types. This new wave is too afraid of diverse babes. Too afraid of big booties. Too afraid to let the black male talent just be themselves. It feels like IR porn now is the white-gloves version of what it used to be. |
| 2fXZ5yn6vqqC Member 135 Posts 3/16 | Among porn buying white men, they might be into asses, boobs, milfs, teens, IR, erotica, anal. There's a lot of competition for those guy's dollars, so no one site/DVD or genre dominates among the porn buying white consumer. But I suspect that most of porn buying black male consumers prefer IR porn, and they have embraced Blacked more than the white male porn buying consumer has embraced any one site or DVD series/genre. So is the boom in IR porn b/c black men have poured their dollars into just a few sites/DVDs while the white male audience remains fractured? I wouldn't say that would be a big evolution But if IR porn is bringing in women or seeing an increase in white male buyers, then that is a big deal. |
