Good things happen to good people. You guys are awesome. Congrats! (PS -- Also awesome how this community really put its money where its mouth was and ponied up. We may be a bunch of pervy weirdos, but we stick together and defend our own!)
Congradulations on this perfect news. Sorry u folks went thru so much stress because of what these misfits did. Based on how well you folks and other contributing moderators have done with this site ( which i believe is the best in the world) i believe u will do the right things with the funds u have. Now everyone and i can relax ( i was concerned) and enjoy this one of a kind site. Simply the best!

They were going to have to do at least some actual work, they were going to be hard-pressed to prove any damages beyond some token amount, and they probably figured that Judge Wright would be generally hostile to them and unlikely to give them an attorneys fees award, given how he treated the lawyers in the Prenda case. So, no real reason to go on with the case, from their perspective. Still, it's a little surprising they didn't try to get a nuisance value payment out of you. Or maybe they did, and your counsel told them to pound sand.

It's unprecedented that they didn't try to get something out of us. Which means they could come after us for something else. Or maybe being in Maine is our saving grace. Or maybe they realized we really are small potatoes. Mostly, I'm happy that our programmer (Drew) will no longer be printing out hundreds of pages of court docs every night, and we can move forward on to more interesting matters.
That's amazing news for you and us, the community you work so hard to support! As others have said, and I'm sure not surprisingly, I fully support donating the money to EFF.org! +100

I kind of feel this way too. Speaking as someone who made a contribution, I'm more than comfortable with Steph and Drew holding on to the remaining funds, at least for the near term. (Perhaps, those that gave the larger contributions might want some say as to what gets done?) Are there any tax implications if you retain the funds?
The funds are/will be reported as income. If we donate the unused portion funds we can offset that impact a bit. So we have until the end of 2016 to make a decision.
I was thinking ADT was part of a business, and the tax rules might be different based on the business purpose (it's not direct revenue). But that's a question for a good tax accountant. I don't have a star by my name but I contributed under the account I use to write reviews. I just want to make it clear: I contributed to ADT and as far as I'm concerned, Drew and Steph (and whomever else might be involved) can do with it as they please. I am not going to get bent out of shape if the money goes to something other than legal defense, now that there's no legal defense required. All I ask is that if it goes to something controversial like a political campaign, I'd rather not hear about it.
I am SO freaking happy this shit hole of a case got dismissed - congrats! It's nice to see the justice system working for once. Did you guys make enough in donations to defray the court costs? JAG can look in between the couch cushions for more spare change! 😀 " Corruptio optimi pessima est"
I tend to agree with the above sentiment. I donated money to help ADT, not someone else. If I want to donate money to some other entity or cause, I will do so. If I had donated $30, I'd probably have a different opinion and say do whatever you want with it. But, I didn't donate $30. So, I do care where it goes.
Drew/Steph - you had mentioned that there wasn't a Cease and Desist letter. Perhaps they knew that lawsuit would not have stood up in court without prior notification of the charges.

Even though I assumed, pretty much from the start, that this would be the outcome, I'm still somewhat ashamed that I didn't contribute to the cause. Actually, knowing that you no longer have to worry about mounting legal fees, I kind of feel more compelled to donate some $ to this site because, for better or worse, it's been an almost-daily part of my life for nearly three years now.

Great news, as for the donations, getting a lawyer to sneeze costs hundreds of dollars so I'm sure this probably already cost Drew and Steph a few thousand dollars at least.

^ it's true. We're still waiting to hear what one of those sneezes is going to cost. For now, we'll hold any extra aside in a just in case fund (still a little nervous.) If you made a large contribution and would like a refund please message Drew or me. We're going to continue the gold star program because in the long run contributions from forum members might be what keeps the forum going. Also, now that I have the t-shirts out of storage we should probably set up a means to order t-shirts. Also, need to shout out a Big Thanks to Videoboy who built a website for the cause - keeptalkalive.com - this kind of support is energizing us.
Haven't checked ADT the last few days as I'm on vacation here in LA. Awesome news to come back to obviously. Very happy for you and thanks to everyone for donating. YAY!!!! Edited by - bono-ONE on 4/18/2016 6:59:03 PM
Have barely been online the last few days outside of random emails and am THRILLED to see this. "With Prejudice" is especially welcome on the dismissal! “No man’s life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session” - Mark Twain
GREAT NEWS! As for the money , do what you deem fit , if you feel to repay those who helped you you may do, if you you want to drink it dry , it's good as well Edited by - LCF on 4/24/2016 9:28:28 AM
Bumping up an old topic. I've had some private messages recently that reminded me that I should go back and read this thread. I'm glad I did. I needed a kick in the ass.
We've been working on launching a redesign of ADT for quite some time. It's a lot of work and we're way overdue. The posts in topics like this one are highly motivational and remind me why I sit in front of a computer 50 to 60 hours a week recently coding away on this site.
We do have something special here. After 20+ years it's too easy to take that for granted. Thank you for making this place what it is.
You and Steph built a wonderful place. It is hard to believe that I first arrived here almost 20 years ago, just to ask a question (A question that was never answered even. Although, I do figure if I ever decide to stop visiting my last post will be to answer my first post. At this point that isn't likely though. I have a feeling I'll be helping to turn out the lights at the end reminiscing about the wonderful ride it has been.). What I found was a community where adult material could be discussed -- not as something filthy hidden under the bed -- but as art. A community where the industry itself listened and asked questions -- where the community has been able to help form the future of adult entertainment for the better. A community where I can talk with fans, industry members, and porn scholars. I've even seen two people -- who met here -- get married. How many forums can claim that?
How we consume adult entertainment may have changed over 20 years, the kinds of movies being made may have changed over 20 years, but the community that you guys built over 20 years ago is still going strong. Here's to the next 20 some odd years!

I gotta admit I was worried when I first saw that this thread got "bumped". My first thought was: "Uh, oh, are they getting sued again?!" I'm very happy to see that is not the case!
Anyways, thanks to Drew, Steph and the rest of the MODs for keeping this thing going! It's crazy how this place has been damn-near a daily part of my life for over 6 years!
