Has anyone else had problems with the readability of older Evil Angel discs, from 2 or 3 years ago? I've been going back through some of my discs from that period and found almost all of my Evil Angel titles are nearly unplayable now.

I've tried two different DVD players and two different computer drives, and all have the same problem: freezing and unplayability after about 1.5 hours into the film. Is this perhaps caused by Dual Layer discs from that period, not being constructed very well? All my other discs from then, by other companies (Private, Hustler, etc) play without any problems.

Titles I've now "lost" are Animal Trainer 5 and 7, Fresh Meat 12, Rocco's Initiations 4 and some others. The one that does still work is Ass Collector, for some reason. These are all US originals, bought from various places over the years.

A bit annoying, as discs I've bought are now effectively useless to play and worthless to sell. I know some people use the term "backup" as a euphemism for illegal copying, but I actually now wish I'd made backups of these discs before they rotted! I wonder if EA would offer a media replacement service, for a nominal fee?

Be interesting to hear if anyone else has had issues with EA discs from 2002 and before. Do they still play OK?

I own over a dozen EA titles: mostly Ass Worship, Flesh Hunter, and Weapons of Ass Destructions. I have some problem with Flesh Hunter 2 not playing properly in both of my Sony DVD Players, but works in other players. And my most recent purchase is Flesh Hunter 7 that doesn't startup in any of my DVD Players (Sony, Toshiba, or Dell DVD-ROM drive) except it loads in my Onkyo player. But it failed to play the 2nd half of the movie properly. I have a thread on this in another forum. I bought it from ADE recently so I exchanged it for another one, thinking that the problem is probably just with that disc. But the replacement DVD also has same problem. Also, another person rented Flesh Hunter 7 from another store and has similar problem. So there might be something strange with how the Flesh Hunter titles are being made.

I don't own any Animal Trainer, Flesh Meat, etc... title you have so I can't help you out there. Sorry.

I tend to recycle (resell) my discs so I don't keep a deep backlog of older titles -- though, I've only been buying DVD porn for a couple of years anyway (for the most part).

But my copy of "Flesh Hunter 2" will no longer play in either the DVD player or on the iMac. I have a really old copy of a Buttman goes to Eastern Europe-type title, which predates the present style of Evil Angel DVD production/presentation (I got it more than 5 years ago), which is scratched to hell, and that plays fine!

Only discovered this recently.

This is a known problem with many EA titles produced between 1999 & 2002. In every case the problem involves discs produced by a single replicator. For some reason, the problem doesn't occur for everyone, but for people who it does occur for, it appears to occur for every disc that they own from this replicator. That probably means that there are some environmental conditions that exacerbate the problem.

Regardless of what causes the problem, Evil Angel will take care of the problem for you. Just e-mail Tricia Devereaux (triciadevereaux@aol.com) and she will tell you where to send your discs. After she receives your discs, she will replace them with copies of the same title produced by a different replicator.

Thanks for the info everyone - I will sift through all my EA discs and see which ones are faulty, then email Tricia and see if they match the description of known bad discs. I'm in the UK so I hope that will be OK to try and get replacement discs.

I look after my discs, so they aren't scratched or visibly damaged. I also just tried my disc of John Leslie's Voyeur 18, and that plays without any problem, so it's perhaps only some titles from that era that are rotting.

Ahh, just found the threads about this problem from June (sorry, my fault for not searching further back than 30 days!)
I will report the titles and storage conditions to Tricia.

I also have had problems with my Evil Angel discs. It is the one company that I consistently seem to get discs that freeze, won't load, lock up, etc.

But Evil Angel is my favorite company by far and I own more discs by them than any other company so I don't know if that's an odds thing.

Same here. Initiations 4, Animal Trainer 8 and Hardball 16 (at least) are all unplayable now.

mackie & Sbando Boy,
Go back and read my reply. It's a known problem and Evil Angel will replace them. It has nothing to do with odds and everything to do with a problem replication company.

My copy of Ass Worship won't play anymore. There isn't a SINGLE scratch on the disk. It's very strange.

How hard is this to understand? It has nothing to do with scratches. There was a problem with the replicator. The issues are with layer 2 of the disc. Sometimes that problem shows itself in the menus, sometimes the disc won't load other times the disc gets stuck during the layer change. There is no visible method of detemining whether you have a problem disc or not other than playing it.

I remember now ....

I had such a problem with an ELEGANT ANGEL DVD ...

I succeeded in doing it work : I needed a few tries every time but it worked every time : I put the disc in my DVD player .... it doesn't play ... I open ( let the disc in ) ... I close ... I push "play" ... sometimes it works the first time , the movie plays .... if it doesn't play I try again ... I open ... I close ... I push "play" or " menu " .... I do it again if it doesn't play .... but it always worked .

Try to do it ... and let me know if it works !

( It doesn't work with DVD-ROM players , only with DVD players ! )

Bill, Maybe you wouldn't feel so much like a broken record if Tricia's original post on this subject was given a permanent place at the top of this forum. I know this subject has come up periodically and that might help.

I have no problem answering this question from time to time. I do, however, have a problem with having to answer it 3 times in the same thread because either people don't read or have limited comprehension skills.

I heard you the first time bill, so thanks. Do you know how common a problem this was, a large number of the discs from that replicator or a rather small number? I have no issues with any EA dics, but I would just like to know how likely it is that it will jump up and bite me on the ass. Thanks for any help.

Does anyone know if there is a decent resource to find out if certain manufacturers had issues with certain discs, I doubt it but if anyone knows of any type of sites I would appreciate either a post or emial, thanks.

I'm guessing here, but I would have thought that you'll know by now if your discs are going to be playable or not. The obvious test is just to try the EA discs you have, and if they play fine today, then they're probably not from this problem replicator, and I would reckon they will be OK. Well, in as much as any DVD will be OK in the future!

But Bill is right - this thread (and a few others from a while back) is about a *specific* problem with a replicator's copies of certain EA titles. The more general issue of DVD disc lifetime is probably not yet known, unfortunately. But I'd like to see any info that people have on this generally, out of interest. Another thread in this forum discusses problems with Anabolic/Diabolic discs from a few years ago that now won't play, so it's certainly becoming a hot topic.

Anyway, I've sent my problem EA discs off to Tricia now, and hopefully the replacements will work fine. Fingers crossed!

Given that it seems that people to have a problem with one disc from this replicator end up having problems with every disc from this replicator, I'm guessing that the condition that causes the disc to go bad is probably pretty consistent from disc to disc.

However, it appears that it's a small percentage of people who actually end up having problems with any discs. That means that whatever external reason that triggers the problem (humidity, heat, cold, storage, who knows????) is probably not all that consistent from person to person.

Bill - thanks again for forwarding on the info about this.

I've been spending most of my time out of the office on another project lately, and missed this thread until today.

For those of you who have LOTS of Evil Angel discs, instead of looking at every one to see if it plays past the layer change (which is where most of the problems will happen, although some of the discs at issue here won't load anymore), here is the key: on the inner silver ring of your disc, look at the ID code. If it starts with DDVD followed by a number, it may potentially have a future problem. Not ALL Of these discs will stop playing, but 99.9% of the complaints I have received go back to discs that have DDVD as the first 3 characters of their ID code. This refers to a specific replicator that we used for a significant time period. To the best of my research, it appears that this replicator had something wrong with their bonding process which was not initially apparent. After a couple of years or more, the discs from that company started to stop playing correctly.

As Bill said, anyone who has discs that aren't playing correctly (but did at one point) should email me if they would like to exchange their disc. The disc needs to be the American version of an Evil Angel DVD and needs to be actually defective.

Thanks Tricia for the info on this.

Just wondering if you would know which other Adult studios used this particular replication company during that time? From another thread it seems some earlier titles from Anabolic/Diabolic are similarly affected by faulty discs, and it could be related - perhaps they used the same replicator.

I appreciate it is potentially awkward to name names, but I think for reference purposes it would be useful to know who else had their discs pressed by this company at that time. Anyone have any more info?

To be honest, I don't know for sure which other companies used that replicator on a regular basis.

You can do an informal test of your discs by looking for the DDVD + a number code on the inner silver ring of your DVD.

The only company I know for sure ran a few titles with that replicator was Adam & Eve, but like I said, I don't know if they used the replicator consistently, so please don't panic just because they may have used the replicator a few times or so.

Hmm - now I've just looked at the other EA discs I have, that currently play fine (Voyeur 18 and Initiations 3) and they both have the DDVD lettering on the inside ring! The silvery part is starting to look a bit worn where it meets the transparent area of the plastic ring.

All my EA discs are kept in the same storage conditions, so it would seem a bit random as to which of these replicator's discs go bad. Maybe these two will flake out eventually - I will keep an eye on them (always a fun job ).

It's usually very quick (1 or 2 day turnaround). However, I think that Tricia is still in Las Vegas overseeing the Fashionistas show while John is as a porn show in Europe. Depending on when she returns home, there might currently be a little longer wait than usual.

Oh ok, well the reason I brought this up is because I saw her make a post this past Tuesday (26th) in another thread in the Porn Pool (https://www.adultdvdtalk.com/forum/topic.dlt/topic_id=47817/forum_id=1/cat_id=1/47817.htm). I figured she may be back, unless she's posting from Vegas or just hasn't gotten around to our emails yet.

Hi guys -
I've been in Vegas 11 of the past 12 days. I got a chance to browse ADT a couple of times in between working on the show.

I will be sending out exchanges for all defective discs that are in my office today.

Thanks for being understanding. :)

Have the defective DDVD disks now been taken out of distribution? Say if I was to order Flesh Hunter 2, would it be a new press of the disk? Surely this is a wise idea, as some older Evil Angel releases are classics and should not be ignored.

Also, does anyone have a list of effected disks? So if they are still out there, I know which ones to avoid????

Schewwwwwwwwwww! I have watched a lot of porn the past week or so! 12 of the possible 18 Evil Angel DVD's I own that have this ID code are defective. All are kept in ideal storage conditions and in original DVD cases. On some its the entire second layer, and on others its only here and there where I get the pixelation and freeze framing. On Buttman's Toy Stories it starts freezing right when Tricia's scene begins! Kind of scary though, I wonder how many other DVD's in my entire collection may be defective. I just cant watch anymore porn right now to find out!

Tricia - thanks again and I will hopefully get these sent tomorrow!

There is no list per say but as Tricia stated in an earler post.

This is easier said than done. Without opening the packaging, it's not possible for EA to determine the replicator of a specific disc. As far as I know, Tricia does open the discs first to guarantee that she is not sending out a replacement disc from the same manufacturer.
If you're really concerned, look at the Evil Angel website. The problem occurred on discs released between 1999 and 2002. It's possible that any disc released in this time frame could have a problem.

However, with EA replacing discs as necessary, I wouldn't (and haven't) avoided anything. If I get one that develops a problem, I'll ask for a replacement.

Actually, we have removed EVERYTHING from our warehouses that was done by that replicator.
Most of the titles done by them, especially the earlier ones from when we first used them had sold out of the entire batch done by them and had already been done by another replicator.

I can't guarantee that something that you buy from a store will not be from the DDVD replicator. (But I can guarantee that if it is defective, we will replace it.) We put out a mass email/fax to all of our customers to let them know about the problem, but received very little stock back. I would think that buying any of our titles from an internet retailer would be fine because they keep very little inventory in-house. And since we pulled everything several months ago, I would think that the majority of stock in stores would have been sold by now too.

Tricia ... now I am worried. I just checked my "Ass Worship #01" and it has that code. It seems to be playing -- at least I can access all the chapters. Jade's "best ever" scene is at the end of the disc! Do you have to actual watching the entire movie to tell if the defect is present?

Also, is this the kind of defect that just randomly will happen after X number of days? Is it something like the glue that bonds the layers will suddenly fail?

Every time I've seen the problem, it has occurred immediately at the layer change and I can always identify it by skipping through chapters. The other place that I can sometimes see the problem is in the menus (I assume that they are on the second layer). If you can access all of the chapters, then you're probably OK for now.

I share the same concern as Snowman. I checked all my Evil Angel DVDs and Ass Worship and Flesh Hunter 2 have the DDVD code. Flesh Hunter 2 stopped working well before I found the info. on this thread, yet my Ass Worship still plays fine (I think). Hopefully, it won't go bad.

I too have Ass Worship #01. For me the problem started 1 chapter after the start of jewel denyle scene. The picture would freeze. I could not fast forward but I was still able to skip chapters. All the chapters I skiped from that point on, resulted in a frozen image. I would say if you want to do a quick check just play the movie and skip chapters. watch a min of each chapter and see if the image freezes on you.

Hope this helps.

I wouldnt say that either. For instance, Ass Worship 2 plays fine except for about a 5 minute section towards the end of the Shyla scene. It starts to freeze frame there then is fine from that point on. If it wasnt for that section, I would have assumed the DVD was fine. I have another title that is the same way but I cant remember offhand(I have 12 titles total out of 18 that exhibit flaws). But some are definitely completely ruined from the beginning of the second layer on.

This morning I received a complete set of replacement discs from EA for the titles I returned, and all of them play perfectly throughout the main feature and the extras. These new discs are pressed by a different replicator (not DDVD) so fingers crossed they stay playable.

I am extremely impressed with Evil Angel, and Tricia in particular, for providing these replacements. Thank you! I wish all companies offered such excellent customer service.

Tricia and others:

My version of "Animal Trainer" (1) has never played past the layer change, I only get the first three scenes.

However, it does not sport the "DDVD" code like other functioning EA discs I have.

Here's what it says on the DVD:

EVIL ANGEL PRODUCTIONS DVD04747-01

and backwards:

EVIL ANGEL PRODUCTIONS DVD04748-01

I am assuming that the 4748 is the 2nd layer that won't play.

Is this disc a candidate for replacement? Perhaps there are also problems with discs without the DDVD code 'cause this one is FUBAR. Thanks

I think that there's only one solid reason that a DVD should be candidate for replacement...it doesn't play properly. Regardless of what the code on the disc, I'd e-mail Tricia if I were you.

Actually, recently, I've been taking care of exchanges about once a week.

So depending on when I receive a disc, I will either send out an exchange that same day or up to 6 days later. The discs get sent out either standard US Mail or Priority US Mail.
For overseas, I let our shipping manager decide what's best to that country.

Must be so frustrating. You work hard to produce great shows to maintain your reputation as one of the best in the business and some cheapo smuck who manufactured the defective blanks messes up the mass DVD burner company who really did everything right. Then Evil Angel has to take the heat and loss. Yes, I understand what business is all about. Did insurance cover this kind of quality loss?

So frustrating. Hence the saying: How can you fly with Eagles when you work with Turkeys?

I emailed her and I didn't get a reply. I don't think I'll be wasting my money on Evil Angel discs if they are just going to fall apart on me.

1. All my disks are kept in a cool dark place.
2. No other disk I own has this problem.
3. When I emailed Evil Angel they ignored me.
4. When I used the email you supplied she ignored me (or didn't get the email who knows).
5. Upon inspecting the disk very closely I can see strange warping. There are no scratches. It's almost like the disk fell apart from the inside out.

When did you e-mail her? I recently found an EA disc with this problem and e-mailed Tricia on Friday 11/5. She got back to me the following Monday (11/8).

I suggest that you e-mail Tricia again.

That's exactly what's happening. Discs manufactured by one of the replicators that they used to use were apparently bonded incorrectly. That's why the problem appears right after the layer change.

Osmosys-
I would have emailed you, except that your email isn't available.

Please email me again, with the subject line a little more descriptive, please.
Unfortunately, I get dozens and dozens of spam emails every single day, and my email account would almost definitely send to the spam folder an email that simply says Hello in the subject line from an address that I haven't recognized yet.

Thanks,
Tricia
