I'm planning on purchasing a new tv in the near future and thought I'd get some recommendations. I'm figuring on a bigger size 50 to 60 inches. I know there are varieties so feel free to give me a few options and I'll check those out. I don't care about gaming or 3D as I don't have either right now in mind, gaming perhaps some day but not a huge emphasis in what I'll buy. Basically looking for something that will show sports well and let me watch tv/ movies on a good quality screen. I'll probably add a blue ray player at some point but not initially.
Thanks.

Well, I recently bought a 32" Panasonic LCD. Everything is good except the speakers. If you're going to connect everything to sound system, this wouldn't be a problem at all. But one thing to watch for in these flat panel TVs is the sound. I don't think a lot of them have problems. I don't know if they use small speakers or what. The speakers in mine are in the back so that's not good.

Lately it seems like the LGs I'm seeing have looked the sharpest. I usually pop in to a big box retailer every couple of weeks just to see what is selling and what new TV toys are on the shelves (we need to keep up to date on potential platforms to build for). Definitely get something with an Internet connection built in.
For the Blu-Ray I'd recommend the PS3 even if you're not a gamer.

I've been very happy with my Samsung TV, it was a big improvement over the Toshiba it replaced.
I find them especially good for SD content (which constitutes about 95% of the channels I receive). Their internal processing seems to disguise the lower resolution better than a lot of other TVs. Of course that's not an issue if you're just watching in HD.

Are you planning on hanging the TV on the wall or are you going to put it on a stand/table? If you're not planning on hanging it, you may want to consider a Mitsubishi DLP. You can get a 65" 3D DLP from Amazon for $1000. The 60" version of the same TV is $900. I would think that it's probably cheaper elsewhere. It's only 16" deep. So it would fit on any stand that you would be putting a flat screen set on. It's just a whole lot less expensive.

Agreed on the PS3. I've talked about it in other threads.

51 inch Samsung Plasma tv, so far so good. Got the cable and dvd working though I think a blu ray will come in at some point.

After getting my 54" Panasonic Plasma, I'm not sure I'll go back to LCDs... The blacks are so deep it's not funny, and the colors are fantastic. I loved my P54G10 so much, when I needed a new TV for the bedroom, I got a P42ST30. It's a 3D model, but I didn't pay any extra for it, got a great deal on it on NewEgg for about $500 or so sometime back.
Only drawback I have with mine, of course, is the heat they put off.
My buddy has a Sammy plasma and he loves hit, so here's wishin' that ya lovr it [;)[

Hell yeah bono, looks sweet. Hope you love it, post a review when you get a chance. Even though I'm a Star Wars junkie myself, I felt it needed one little improvement.....
