If you're a fan of Mason than you know the shot. It recurs again and again in her tease footage, but captivates every time. Here's an example from Anikka Albrite's scene in Battle of the Asses 5:  Typically in cinema a low-angle shot serves to demonstrate the power of the person depicted. The audience is literally lower than the person and looking up at their towering presence. This totally fits Mason's themes of empowered women in control of their sexuality. These women are figures who literally dominate the frame with their beauty and we the audience are meant to be in awe of them. Also note how how the background diagonal lines pull the viewer into the picture and focus attention on the Anikka's magnificent ass. This is some top flight composition that gives the picture a real sense of dynamism. You can see the technique used again in this shot of Jynx Maze from Battle of the Asses 4:  Does it show much that I've taken a bunch of film classes?  Regardless of whether all this is intentional, there's little doubt that Mason captures the female posterior better than anyone in the biz. Its a rare thing when porn works on both the visceral and artistic levels, and Mason should be applauded for that. She is a true auteur of porn who knows what works and delivers every time. | NotMyRealName Member 487 Posts 6/13 | Posted - Jun 20 2014 : 2:57AM Synchronization between performer and framing - I'm not sure how much other intro tease footage is being considered here but in my viewing experience there is just a ton of bad camera work out there when considering the purpose of the action. I'm not sure how these things are worked out before the tape starts rolling but I've often found tons of missed opportunities where the girl is clearly out of place for where the camera is going to be framing her (the clearest example of this is when it's a close up on her face and she turns around to tease with her butt and the camera has to scramble to reframe the action). Or the framing is bad to begin with (for example a medium shot in a booty movies where the bottom of her butt is cut off and the top her is head is in frame - lazy camera). Editing - This might sound like a simple thing but the good editing is largely made possible by the good decisions made on the set. What really separates Mason's direction here is her ability to do longer takes without having to cut away quickly to keep the tease going. As an example of what I mean, checkout the Jayden Jaymes scene in HardX's BAA1 -- [06:12 - 06:50] (a 38 second clip!) That's a complete take where Jayden teases near a car with a soaked sponge, douses herself with the soapy water, flips around and douses her backside while doing a great, extended booty shake for the camera. HOT! In another director's care this would have been chopped up and the disjointed continuity would have disturbed the flow of the scene. Paying off the setup with a high tease to setup time ratio - Especially in the Buttwoman movies there is a kind of cumulative effect with each new setup. What is good here is that the establishment of these shots is a smaller part of the actual clip than the tease. What happens in a lot of lesser booty movies is that you get shots that have the girl facing the camera and swaying back and forth for up to 15 seconds then you get 2 or 3 seconds of real booty footage then the camera cuts to another setup with the girl dancing for another 10 - 15 seconds. A couple of seconds of tease in a 30 second clip = no heat whatsoever. The succession of shots in Mason's movies typically use less setup and more actual tease to keep viewer interest (instead of MTV style cuts which hurt, not help, the scene) and so when there is a cut away from tease to setup there is more willingness from the viewer to stay in the scene as the new setup promises to yield even more tease footage. I wouldn't necessarily call it tension and release but it's about as close as a way of explaining how you actually have 2 things going on and knowing the right amount of screen time for each is what keeps the energy of the scene high. Ebb and flow maybe? IDK Energetic performances - Another great thing is that the girls are ready to perform. I've seen a bunch of videos where the girl just looks sleepy and uncommitted. These always underwhelm. Good casting and personality - Of course there's good casting but I feel like Mason makes an effort to show the girl in the best possible light based on what's naturally attractive about her. I think the Keisha movie did this very well. Other directors will shoot the same way, using the same technique regardless of the girl. This is where I feel the other top directors are lacking. Often it just becomes another shoot for them while it seems like Mason is looking for that special thing that the girl has to offer that's beyond what she looks like or how much coverage you get for the scene. Part of what makes the girl sexy is her unique personality and some part of that is expressed in her sexuality.
