I used to watch some Max Hardcore movies when he first started making them. I don't like everything he does, but I see a lot of movies that have been influenced by his stuff. He was the first guy that I saw do some of the things that are in many gonzo movies these days, such as face fucking and deep throating, anal, teen theme, facial cum shot, talking dirty. He had these features in nearly every movie he did. I liked the facials, so I watched some of his movies for this, but I haven't watched any of his recent stuff.
Max loves to proclaim his influence. Having watched a whole lot of porn I can say that there's very little that he actually initiated. However, he did package the misogynist/abusive schtick, so I guess he gets some credit for that whole trend (I suspect the Germans were there well before him, though).

I actually liked a lot of his earlier work such as "Anal Vision", "Cherry Poppers", "The Hitchhiker" and the stuff he directed for Private. I never really liked watching anal sex until the Anal Vision series. However around the turn of the century his movies got really stupid with all the gagging, pissing and puking. So my question is "What happened to him?" He actually seems/seemed like a very personable guy in a lot of BTS outtakes.
I hate Max Hardcore, because its women degrading, women hating, mysognist ( is this the right word ? ) trash.
I dont have problems with hard sex, at the opposite, but I dont like the primitive talking and scenes where it looks, like the girls are forced to do it. ( But I dont like censorship either and the hassle he had with the law. ) If men want to watch this, ok. If these are the only type of porn they watch, then it really is dangerous. Yes, the Germans were the inventors of porn movies were girls/women were treated like dustbins. Max has some really nice asian girls, who did golden shower games, so I rented some movies, but I turned down the volume level, because I dont wanted to hear his sarcastic remarks.
Here in NL, there are more Max Hardcores for sale than in the US, some have a sticker "not for sale in USA/CANADA", because they have Golden Shower Scenes. Are this DVDs illegal in the US ? The girls are mostly french or asian, a few from UK and USA.

You know, Caroline, I have a real problem with people who misuse, abuse and overuse the word "mysognist." It's as though these people hate all men and seek their domination. In this case, however, you are absolutely, one hundred percent correct. Max is a mysognist, a woman hater, an abuser and is lucky he has the first amendment to hide behind, because if he were not a pornographer, he would have landed in jail a long time ago with these antics. I support the right of anyone to say, write, print, publish, film, exhibit or otherwise express whatever they wish, even if I don't agree with it. Especially if I don't agree with it, since that's the only way that my right to do the same can be guaranteed. But Max is walking a very fine line, and I daresay that one day soon, he's going to cross it. Violence ain't cool.
Max Hardcore's shtick got old with me about ten years ago. The sad fact is that there is still a market for his product. The guys who buy his stuff year after year are the ones responsible for the perpetuation of violent and misogynistic porn.

Misos = greek for "hatred". Gyne = greek for "woman".
==> Misogynist = woman-hater.
Andras = greek for "man" or "male" ==> Misandrist = man-hater.
Anthropo = greek for "human" ==> Misanthropist = human-hater. Anthropology = study of humans/humankind. And so forth.
Max Hardcore comes across as one that appeals to #1, personally I find his movies disturbing more than erotic.
I for one love your expansion of the "Miso" into other word means. I alway seem to misunderstand those two particular words Misogynist and Misanthropist. I will have to memorize them to really get there proper use.
Thanks.
As for Max Hardcore, I kind of find him; as a kinky type porn but I think alot of people get off on his style however. After all; he still going strong and now he is being distribute by JM Productions; which will provide a larger outlet for his stuff!

Sorry Hardware, but he started it. Besides, we're talking about Max Hardcore. It really doesn't rise much higher than the Junior High level. Nonetheless, I will try.

I agree with this. The early max from the 90s was influental stuff. Like Dean, I actually think Max is the one that kind of warmed me up to watching anal. He also pulled off some great facials too. The things he shot then would just be considered "normal" (even tame, perhaps) gonzo now.
But these days he just gone waay too far and out of my comfort zone. But I'll still give him credit for thos early Mr. Peepers episodes, Anal Adventures of Max Hardocre , AnalVision, etc...
(anybody remember that great AnalVision with Tami Monroe!!!)
it's impossible to wank to any of Max's creepy scenes, with the ugly wardrobe and clown makeup on the chicks.also Max himself is completely repulsive, some reviewer said, after fucking a chick ,he looked directly at the camera and said,"I know I'm going to hell, but I'm taking a lot of people with me".no thanks,I think I'll leave his junk on the shelf.
While I have definitely moved on and away from Max Hardcore, and haven't been moved to see anything new of his in at least eight or nine years, I can't be hypocritical and say that he he didn't entertain me, and in my view, influence porn in general, 10-15 years ago.
At the same time over a decade ago, that my personal porn tastes were being spoken to by John Stagliano and Rodney Moore, Max Hardcore was also part of that mix of pornographers who were doing something and doing their own thing, and different from what I'd seen before. And what he was doing then spoke to me as well. And even though they were three compeletely different guys doing completely different things, I found enjoyment in all three.
I don't know that he "invented" anything new in porn, or was "the first" to do something in porn, but if you look at some of the things that are going on in the porn landscape of today, to say that none of it is rooted in, or influenced by what Hardcore was doing, almost alone, 15 years ago, is to be in a little bit of denial.
He may not be your cup of tea, hell, he hasn't been my cup of tea for a long time, but for better or for worse, he does fit my definition of a person who left his imprint on porn, and one who did have a definite effect on the porn that followed him.
I am not a great fan of Max Hardcore's own poductions for a long time, but I remember owning the vhs of Private's "Costa Rica Getaway" which had some really great scenes in it!!
His approach to porn was far different in those days, and I think those who have not seen any of his work with Private should maybe check out the above movie if they have the opportunity, as they may be pleasantly surprised by what they see.
Agreed. I dunno. Maybe I was younger then and didn't notice it but I don't believe he was going so much with the teenie bopper thing in those days. I remember seeing his stuff from around 95 or 96 and it was pretty tame compared to what he's doing these days.
So did I. I think it was around 1992 when I started watching his Anal Adventures Of Max Hardcore and Ass Master movies and of course the stuff he directed for LBO like Anal Vision and Bun Busters. Those were the days! To deny the fact that Max set the example for hardcore porn is to deny the truth. I mean as far back as I can remember it was Max Hardcore who first started to shoot gapes, everybody else then followed.
I think John Stagliano was more influential in the whole gonzo style and butt fetish, and Rodney Moore was influential in areas such as POV and always completing scenes with a facial.
Max was one of the first I saw do the aggressive face fucking, and also the technique of lying the girl on her back with her head over the arm of the couch and doing his deep throating from this position.

Apology accepted, Bro. Slainte I haven't seen Ghetto gaggers. That's why I haven't commented on it. From what I read in the thread, it doesn't sound racist per se. But again, I'd have to see it to make a fair comment.
Ah Max! Where would porn be without him? He is a friend to the Mexican, practically as big as Cesar Chavez!
It's true: You find him repulsive and yet, Rocco picked up a lot of his antics from the cat in the hat. Unfortunately, Max is not a handsome fellow. None of the real pioneers are: The Ed Powers and Rodney Moores. I suspect their lack of handsome genes is what propelled them to do what they do. Max is porn's answer to "The Little Train That Could."
All I can really say is that for some girls, he is a rite of passage. He's that troll in the woods in the children's fairy tale that can only be subdued by anal sex, throat fucking and vomit. It's like Grimm's Porno Tales. And then you get warm cookies fresh from Conchita's oven!
I think he's rather sad, a bit like the guitarist who invented a crazy lick that everybody copied and made their name off of, while you can only recycle that lick to ever diminishing returns. Except, I bet he earns shitloads, and that he doesn't care if, aesthetics-wise, anyone finds his porno loathsome. Chuck Berry was into homemade shit videos, recycling those crazy licks. And we all love Chuck Berry.
It's too bad Max only makes porn and isn't the father of rock.
I was a pretty big fan of his videos in the early going ... though once Stagliano got into his Buttman phase, the relative sameness of the shoots and the girls that Max favored were not too interesting anymore. It's an extreme sort of kink, made more radical but its sheer repetitiveness and its reduction to the most blatant basic elements. He's practically avant-garde.
Except, he's also hermetic. And, again, you turn Manuel Ferrara loose on the same tangent and the girls just open up like blossoms ... while the Max vibe is nearly always one of creepy pedophile rape, and girls making ugly faces behind smeared make-up, and all of that ... If you are not shocked then you are beyond bored ... in fact, you feel like your intelligence is being insulted. Joey Silvera never insults my intelligence, and does Max 100 hex better than Max ... but there ya go ... porn sure isn;t about intelligence ... though I keep wishing it was ...
I think porn is pretty much winding down to an end point ... I mean, there will always be porn ... obviously ... but I suppose my enjoyment and terror related to porn is tied in with that generation of producers who are now in their mid-to-late 50s, and while I have some faves in the younger crew, and some of those who are about my age (mid-to-early late 40s), I think the overwhelming emphasis on reducing everything to a generic act or riff or attitude is going to leave me out as a consumer. It don't ring my bell. Maybe Max is not only the beginning of gonzo but the end of it.
Heh....come to think of it, maybe I shouldn't be so hard on Max.Skronk's post just reminded me of something. When I first started getting into porn, real, honest to goodness anal was about the rarest creature in all of pornoland. Max was pretty much the only one making decent anal movies....even if he was already doing some kind of weird stuff.
Probably the next best thing that came along was Rocco. But Max did undoubtedly give a lot of people something to watch in the meantime. I don't know what's happened to him now. Maybe the explosion of copycats just forced him to reinvent himself so many times and to such an extent that he's just a freak show now.
It's kinda hard to track who started what and who influenced who. Still, a lot of Max stuff pre-existed in Euro and Japanese fetish porn. What Max did was to introduce those...elements in his own way to the US porn audience, an audience at that time very unused to this kind of stuff.
If people are seeking the major influence and the first beginnings of the porn revolution that led to gonzo-style porn, they should probably look to late 80's/early 90's Euro porn.
Buttman set the most important example in my opinion with The Adventures of Buttman and then again with Wild Goose Chase. With Wild Goose Chase he showed you can shoot a feature/story movie with hot sex in it. I guess companies like VCA and Vivid didn't pay any attention.
Ed Powers and Rodney Moore I consider the pioneers of the pro-am genre. Like interview and sex and stuff like that. Speaking of that, will Ed Powers ever release Bus Stop Tales on DVD?
Butt when he first started he was pretty tame compared to stuff right now, his early stuff was more about anal/gapes while now it's more like a freakshow, I guess it was a natural evolution.
I still own the Buttman magazine where Stagliano says that Max Hardcore is actually his favorite director, after I read this I was surprised Stagliano never signed Max Hardcore. Maybe Stagliano didn't want to get into legal troubles Max's stuff.
Only if they're shot the wrong way. Gapes are the best during RAC and when the guy pulls the girl up while she holds the gape open. I call that the Jean Yves Lecastel gape.
There's actually nothing in Max's scenes, even now, that I don't enjoy watching as porn, it's just the trappings Max chooses, the types of girls (generally, with major exceptions), the whole pigtails thing, the "Yeeeeeuhhhh! Squeeze it out!" shtick, which is so hideous it's laughable ... who the fuck can jerk off to that? Jesus God.
I guess the barfing is his way of staying "ahead of the curve," but his stuff is becoming virtually unsexual, like so much other so-called "extreme" content. The usual "Euro version" antics can be pretty hot, though again when it's couched in the attitude of sexual abuse of jailbait, I can't really get my ::banananeech:: on.
I think Rogue brought it up to the point, Max Hardcore wasnt an inventor, but took elements from the worst german and japanese porn movies. He also added a childish image to his models, in one movie, its an european version, he is pissing two 18,19 year olds in the mouth and both demand a barbie doll to play with it, behaving like little girls. I dont like this..... Even if it is only a play, some sick minds can draw very weird conclusions out of this.
In Europe, he has some asian-french girls ( of course 18+), that are very attractive, so I rented some. ( I confess, shame on me.) But the more I read and saw in his movies, and the euro versions are much harder, I came to the conclusion that I never will rent a max movie anymore. This is giving porn a bad name.
What about all the women who repeatedly show up to perform for/with him? Surely they aren't all deaf/dumb when it comes to his reputation. If the women didn't work for him, he'd have nothing to sell the male perpetuators of "violent and misogynistic porn" right?
But I understand that we never hold the actresses responsible for their own actions in this industry...they are just victims, right?
I guess for most of the girls he is just another guy who pays for a scene and that's all there is to it. A few girls might get turned by his misogynistic abuse and others might regret they did that job (too late), but the majority is professionals that don't really care much.
And, believe it or not, i think many porn girls don't consider his scenes hard work, since it is usually an one-on-one with someone who is not well endowed and exhausts himself in verbal abuse and some pissing (oooh hardcore. NOT.)
Frankly, i consider his stuff unintentionally funny and not erotic at least. I give him that the choice of the girls and their styling is sometimes great, but his style that reeks of small dick angst and bitter rejection ruins scenes that otherwise could have been great. But, i guess the people who enjoy his stuff are the ones who sympathize with him.
My point exactly. Since porn is fantasy, even "sick" fantasy by my labels when it comes to Max stuff, then why does the porn community ascribe so much value to Max's behavior, both good and bad? It's make believe, the women involved with him aren't ritual abuse victims...they are paid performers who willfully sign up (some repeatedly) to do scenes with/for Max. It's a business, not a statement.
I'm actually glad you brought up the "accidentally humorous" aspect of his work. When I first saw some of his stuff in the mid 90's I was in shock at how "extreme" he was. Then after a few vids I realized it was all a big show and began to laugh at his antics. I didn't see any of his work for almost 10 years until recently. Now I'm seeing the punch line to his decade-long jokes.
It's an act. Don't take him seriously. If he's influenced anything in porn it's that.....that the "make believe" factor can be suspended if you do something consistently. People actually think he's extreme (in real life) and so they demonize him and that makes his stuff all the more "forbidden" to attract new viewers. In my world, we call that "schtick."
That's too much credit for Germany and Japan. Max didn't need their inferior product to make a superior product.
I will support a ban for pigtails in adult-movies ;-)
Porn already has a bad name and nothing Max will do will change that. People will never accept porn no matter how tame or hardcore it is. So it's the time to choose a side, you're either with porn or you're against it.
Well, it's Max. I don't think he's doing anything he hasn't been doing for years so if he's "giving porn a bad name" (which is about impossible. People who hate porn will hate it anyway....Max or no Max), he's been doing so for years.
Max is one of those people wheere it's really difficult to tell where the fiction ends and the reality begins. There's no question that some of his stuff is in poor taste but then, that's why he does it. He knows that. And most people who watch porn know that as well so his reputation undoubtedly sells a lot of porn for him. People will go straight to what they know is "the worst" or "the nastiest" stuff they can get their hands on because porn is supposed to be filthy and nasty and sick and Max is one of the few who's gioing as far as he legally can.
If we can trace rock-n-roll music to the Bluesmen of the Mississippi, Little Richard, and James Brown, I guess you can call Max Hardcore the "Godfather of Gonzo Porn".
Today's directors were raised on his "cutting-edge" films which were originally laughed off by the major studios who made every attempt to stay on the straight and narrow in an attempt to remain viable as a commercial entitity. They were not willing to jeopardize their business and risk judicial scorn by stepping out of line from what was deemed "acceptable porn" by the American public. They "played it safe" and produced porn that was marketable throughout the country where they didn't have to worry about checking their raincoat at the border before determining whether they could peddle their films.
They let Max do his thing on the outer fringe of porn and kept him at a safe distance letting him satisfy a "fringe market". He was relegated to the old days when the "creepy guy down the block"up a camera and invited Susie over for milk and cookies. Although his movies had a home movie-feels they were beginning to pop up in more and more porn collections. Much more than the highly polished feature products that by now had fallen into a rather boring rut of boring storylines, staged sex, and cheesy music.
Speaking from personal experience, I remember talking with a co-worker about Max once dressed in three-piece suits after a business meeting.
First it was the curiosity of HOW he was dressing his models (the whole baby-doll/school-girl look), then WHAT he was doing (medical instruments, lights), then it was HOW he was doing it,(slobbering oral to roguh anal) that struck a nerve with the Porn Public.
Once studios realized they COULD make money off of "Gonzo Porn" they were willing to finance young directors who had pulled their first pud to Max and copied his style thus creating the standard for the current gonzo explosion.

I like the way Max dresses his girls, I like the roll play. I like the way he moves in from the start and takes advantage. I like that he focuses on her pussy from the start. The little girl theme is nothing new in porn. It was a main stay of porn from the start. A lot of women enjoy the little girl roll play, even with heavy incest overtones. I have met women in my personal live that enjoyed playing it.
I like Max’s stuff right up until the sex stops and he turns it into a freak show.
If someone would take Max’s theme and just stay with sex and leaves out the freak show. I think he would have a winner. Even if it was rough sex.
If porn producers are copying Max. There not copying the part at the start of the movie max does right.
I haven’t seen Eric Everhard’s Jailbait 3 but I think will
But you can’t get a boner to Max’s movies, you can’t get your G/F watch it with you. There’s not much you can take to the bedroom.
Gonzo Porn is here to stay. Porn produces can’t write scripts, porn directors can’t direct, porn performs can’t act. When you watch them you end up comparing them to mainstream movie and they always fall well short.
What they could do, they all to often don’t do is roll play. Porn performs can be very good at roll play. They could use wardrobe to set the mood. Jules Jordan and a very few others does this.
All to often-porn producers have a couch, substitutes frat boy humor for sexual imagination and depends on the new girl in town to sell his movie.
You said "Porn already has a bad name..." I think the reputation of porn changed in the last ten years, or ? Jenna Jamesons Book is a bestseller, some stars are famous as Pop Stars, some film critics are at least recognizing the porn movie again. I think the reputation is much better than in the late 80s or early 90s, but the customer has to support the good porn movies. Of course these movies are a little more expensive than the last gonzo-gangbang sampler, but its worth the money.
Max Hardcore can rot in Hell. :-) ( But he seems to be the chief of this location.....)
I admit porn is getting more exposure these days but that doesn't mean society think it's more acceptable than like 20 years ago, at least that's the way I see it. But it's not important what society thinks and it also doesn't mean directors should tone down their movies just to please society. I don't believe in that kind of self-censorship.
But let the customers decide what's good porn and what's not. I don't believe in those soft tame couples-appeal PC movies being released by Vivid, Wicked, Shane's World and Digital Playground for example, my kind of movies are being released by companies like West Coast Productions, Hush Hush and Evasive Angles and I would like to keep it that way.
I wonder about Max Hardcore's influence on pornography and those who watch it.
A few weeks ago, I asked my boyfriend/fiance if there was anything in particular that he wanted me to do or wear. He said something about ankle socks with ruffles, among other things.
Immediately, I thought of the ridiculously dressed girls in Max Hardcore's films - the bright pigtails, smeared makeup, frilly costumes, and of course, ruffled socks.
He's never admitted to watching much pornography, so I was a little surprised.
At any rate, I consider myself GGG, so I did the ruffled socks and frilly costume, and followed up with enough blush and eyeshadow to make me look 14 years old. Very rough sex followed, but it wasn't anything near the level of Max Hardcore.
In the back of my mind, I keep wondering if he does watch Max Hardcore movies. I don't have any problems with how my boyfriend treats me - during sex and at all other times - but I am quite curious as to where he got the idea.
I think Max Hardcore is a smart business man. ( Thats the only positive thing I can say about him )
It is no coincident, that he worked in France in the last years, because there seems to be a big porn implosion. Many companys struggled and went out of business, because they dont were able to catch the cost of conversion to DVD. 10 years ago, NL or German were big markets for french porn, now a french porn movie is rare to find. French porn movies had to produce movies in different video norms, because they have the strange SECAM norm in the home market, rest of Europe has PAL and most other countries NTSC. Ive read, that they produced big volume of PAL/NTSC versions in the late 90s, eary 2000, but DVD demand raised enormously, so they were stucked with bins upon bins of unsold videotapes. So there were many starlets in the french region without work, and a MAX Hardcore, with $ in his hands, came along well. A girlfriend of mine was at a porn convention in france, and she talked with a young women, that made one golden shower movie with MAX Hardcore. I dont want to reveal her name here, but she tried to find a french company doing a golden shower movie, but it was impossible at the moment. So she joined MAX. MAX always thinks, that the girls are only doing it for the money, which is the truth the most time, ( because wet scenes are better paid ), but this girl really liked it. He insulted the girl in front of the camera, but because she didnt understood english well, she smiled, and enjoyed the wet sex play. Its a wonder, that this scene is still in the MAX movie. It really jumps out of his whole concept. Another Member of the Max crew, understanding a little french, said, that Mr. Max was really, really angry because of this scene. When the french girl saw the whole movie, she was shocked, because of the bad treatment and the insulting of the girls. She decided never to star in a MAX film again.
But to return to the track, MAX was only one time here in NL, and he almost found no girls, that wanted to be insulted. He is looking for regions that have structural problems, I am really astonished that he isnt working in Belarus or Cuba. ;-)
I agree about the girls but that's because he only uses skinny girls and I don't like skinny girls.
That's because Holland hardly has a porn-market, it's too small for that. I mean even Kim Holland is using girls from other countries so she can release movies on a regular basis.
