I know that there isn't any software of these types that is perfect, but I have tried plenty of different ones and have found McAfee to be the best of them, so ... I installed the brand new McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 on my PC yesterday. And what did I find? It is one of the most frustrating and useless pieces of software I have ever had anything to do with. First of all, it wouldn't let me do a custom install. Then, once installed, I had a look at the interface, and "user-friendly" it certainly isn't. I then went online to get the latest updates, and that took over 2 hours of downloading with my 56 kbps connection. And that was the least of my frustrations with it. Once all the new updates were installed, I went online again, and McAfee decided to take-over my internet connection! I could not even open my google mail, as McAfee was using at least 66% of my bandwidth for reasons known only to themselves. McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 is an absolute shithouse program! When I was a comp tech, I seen more viruses slip by McAfee than any other A/V. I'm not a fanboy of Norton, but at least it seemed to protect some One of the better A/Vs I have seen is a free one (AVG), same with firewalls. AoneAlarm is the best firewall I have seen. Even the free version! Although I would like to get my hands on that security app they have - maybe one day when I have money I'll buy it. I suppose I could still do the free version of it... It is ridiculously severe on computer resources, and in all likelihood possibly halves the lifespan of a computer. I have reverted back to McAfee 2006 edition, for its simplicity and effectiveness. It doesn't stop every virus, but, of course, no anti-virus program can. The McAfee 2006 firewall, especially, is a very good one. [Link] |
