I often wonder who buys all the porn feature movies. I just have no interest in them. I did like some of the old porn features of the 70s and 80s, mainly when it was a comedy or sci-fi spoof. But these features that take themselves so seriously, please, it's porn, it's jacking off material. I often hear that women like them, but previous girlfriends of mine never particularly liked them. The male friends that are into porn are into gonzo. So, do men like gonzo, and women like features?

Isn't this a poll?
Anyway, even though I'm a guy I still enjoy features.
And from the last batch of porn I bought, the first dvd my girlfriend wanted to borrow was a Private bukkake title.
Go figure....

100% without a doubt.
As long as the feature includes slapping, spanking, hair-pulling, anal pounding, gangbanging, and nonstop degrading behavior towards the worthless whore.

False....I enjoy any kind of porn that interests my wife. She enjoys features, gonzo, acrobatic sex, all-oral, occasional anal....her moods change, her tastes in porn change. We have a large library of all kinds.
When watching porn alone, I watch mostly POV, which I think is considered gonzo.

More than a half of porn I buy is features. What comes to internet porn, it's probably 50/50. Gonzo is just too mechanical and boring for the biggest part.

I like features and I like gonzo. But if I had to chose either one or the other, it would be features (so I guess it's true). I like to see characters have sex, not just "random whore #1" fucking "headless torso and dick #2".
What I really would like to find more of is features with gonzo-style sex.

I just wish someone could mix the atmosphere, mood, chemistry, lighting and style of features with the hardcore filth of gonzo.

That ASSumption is so far wrong, it barely rates a response.
I have also read that younger men prefer gonzo, while its we older men, who like feature porn--THAT is closer to the truth than this "gender-bender" rationale.
Maybe, its that, "been there-done that" mind set, but gonzo, and the sexual overkill the genre thrives upon, is far too repetitious for me, and UNLESS the particular production has some truly dynamic sexual animal-- a Tiffany Minx or Tory Lane-- I avoid it like a buzzing mosquito on a hot summer night!
Feature films on the other hand, combine explosive sex with plot-driven themes and hopefully, if the directors and performers are worth their salt, in-depth character portrayals.
You see, when it "cums" to really finishing a sexy screen scene, what I like to call the "steam stream," has an overwhelming advantage over main stream productions.
For, just as the Hollywood sex scene "heats up," its OVER, while the Valley's screen version is ONLY BEGINNING, and what we are FORCED to imagine in the major studio's offering, we can see VIVIDLY through porn.
As far as the ludicrous idea that porn exists ONLY for jack-off material, I STRONGLY disagree--PORN, just as any main stream production, should exist to ENTERTAIN the individual at ALL levels, and to stimulate the ENTIRE body of the viewer, both MENTALLY and in the case of adult films, especially, SEXUALLY.
THANK GOODNESS!, companies such as Wicked Productions, Vivid, Adam & Eve and Private, figured that out a long time ago, and CONTINUE to make quality, thought-provoking explicit sex films for the HUGE number of we porn patrons, who not only EXPECT a REASON (plot) for the sexual dynamics taking place between the film characters, but DEMAND nothing less.--PORN PLUS, I call it.

I'm a guy and as long as the sex scenes are hot, I would watch either gonzo or features.

I'm guessing Savoy means that features should have hotter, raunchier sex scenes where the performers are really into each other rather than tame, boring sex scenes that appear in a lot of features.

i like both gonzo and features, but for different reasons. I watch gonzo for the sex, but I watch features for the plot. I agree that porn isn't just "jackoff material", and some porno films aren't that at all ("The Fashionistas", for example). There are porno films I like for reasons other than the sex (see example in the previous sentence). And yes, porn is first and foremost entertainment. I watch porn to be entertained.

It amuses me that some folks associate 'tame, boring sex' with features. I can't tell you how many gonzo titles I've seen that contained boring sex.
The fact is that I like what I like and I don't care where I find it. If it's in a Marc Dorcel feature that's fine with me. If it's in a wall-to-wall production that'll work, too.

Personally I don't have a preference, and neither does my husband. But if I were to generalize based on the clientele where I work, I'd say the stereotyping is fairly accurate.

ha ha. i've yet to see a porno that provoked me to think about anything, other than blowing a load. except maybe why on earth the directors or talent do some un-erotic things.
Danl again : "we porn patrons, who not only EXPECT a REASON (plot) for the sexual dynamics taking place between the film characters"
..but you're damn right here; a major problem with gonzo is its just some chick giggling & fiddling with herself and some guy on a horn just walks in naked and starts banging her with no "hello" or anything.

i agree with the title. true, yes.
although, i prefer features, because gonzo is boring to me.
circus acts aside, gonzo is almost always achievable (depending on who you are; i'm sure i could do it), whereas features are not. who has time to make elaborate sets and costumes and piss together a shitty script?

I have a hard enough time finding mainstream films that meet my exacting standards, what chance does porn have? Even the "better" features I've seen came off as buffoonishly amateur in many areas and just distracted me from the business "at hand", as it were.

Ok, I pretty much thought that. I guess I just disagree with the assumption. Maybe I just look for different things in a scene sometimes. The sex alone isn't always the only thing that turns me on. I'll agree that the sex is generally better in so-called gonzo's and especially all-sex films. To me, they generally lack imagination, variety, and true interaction to me. When done well and with imagination, which unfortunately is rare, gonzo's can rarely compete with features IMO. Now I don't have a problem with no pretense, but I really do prefer Some kind set-up and build-up. Just creates more intensity IMO...well if done right and with the right people.
It's all sex to me really though. In the end, I always go with the women, and let them guide me to the genre.

Thanks, matchmaker. You said what I meant. I was just thinking of the energy level and the raw feel of some gonzo. Not the lack of set-up. I can see know how my original post was contradictory.
I chose features because set-up and character is important to my enjoyment of a scene also. But for some reason - the heat of a really good gonzo scene is lacking in a lot of features. Maybe it's just how they are shot that makes the difference.
Feature scenes aren't completely dead in the water. Some of my favorites are from features. Overall, there's a sedateness and predictability to them.

I'm only interested in the sex scenes. I couldn't care less about character, plot, etc.
That said, I tend to like features because the whole production is often better. I'm only interested in the sex, but I don't like the "throw a sheet over the sofa and get going" stuff. I like lingerie. I like better lighting. I like a nice location. Features typically have that, where just "scenes" do not.
Ultimately, I really buy because I want to see a particular actress doing something I like. If I get that in a compilation or a gonzo, so be it. If it's in a feature, so be it.

No, I have to disagree with you. I like both features and all sex (which includes gonzo titles) films. My collection is 75% feature (including classics which takes up a large chunk of that number) and 25% all sex.

I'm open to either, but I rarely see a feature I'm interested in, but sometimes, good "vignette&quotups are a nice in between I guess. My wife thinks plots are stupid, so I guess she wouldn't be a fan of sitting through any porn features.

It depends. In US porn, I prefer feature movies.
I especially like WICKED, but also watch other movies,
if I like the actresses and/or the storys.
I dont like Gonzo, because its degrading women, at least thats the definition of Gonzo, or not ?
The term "gonzo" is used very negative in Europe,
"Gangbang" isnt.
I like "action only" movies too, but then the actress has to be super-attractive and red hot.
The negative point is, that so many US porn "action" movies dont have an erotic atmosphere the feature films have.
Its just too fast, the women enters the door and suddenly she is sucking cocks and fucking. But I know that most men
see it from the opposite, its too slow - they press the
"fast forward" button.
Now that we have DVDs...how about a female and a male version of the porn movie ?
( Or better to say a condensed action version and
the directors cut version ? )

I would say generally it's true. As for myself I like most types of porn. I enjoy features the most because it seems real. There is lead up to the sex instead of just getting right into it.

Not true!
There are very few gonzo productions that I like. In fact, some of the 50/50 old Christoph films is as far as I could go. The "new wave" of hard gonzo has pretty much dried my desire to buy adult DVDs. I am very selective now and only buy high-quality feature films (or European films) where clothing, kissing, etc are represented. As mentioned above degrading beautiful women to a degree where I feel compelled to turn off the TV...forget it.
A slow undressing, a passionate kiss, the camera focusing on the actors' faces...thats what does it for me. In fact, because of IT I have started buying old VCA, Wicked, Marc Dorcel, etc. films.
