I've been noticing a lot of missing emoticons (with the dreaded red "X" sitting in their place) lately.

What gives?

Could you point me to one? I don't know what gives until I see a broken X.

See this thread.

On page 3, you see emoticons on the top half of the page, then the "red x" on the bottom half.
Many on page 4 also.

I also notice the dates in the thread showing "June 2006." This strikes me as odd because I seem to recall this thread as being much more recent than that, certainly sometime in 2007?

I see what's going on. It's fairly easy to fix.

For a brief period in 2006 we used an outside hosting company to host many of the common images used on the site while the bulk of the site ran on our servers here at the house. Those images were hosted at images.adultdvdtalk.com. When we moved everything to a hosting company in May of last year I never updated the emoticons to come from forum.adultdvdtalk.com instead of images.adultdvdtalk.com. (I just made the switch transparent.) A couple of weeks ago I started laying the groundwork for our new user-uploadable images feature which will run at images.adultdvdtalk.com. That's when the emoticons broke. I'll fix it later today when I'm at the office. I didn't notice the problem because I use FireFox and it doesn't display a red X for broken images. It was only visible in IE.

This should be fixed now.
