| jamesn Senior Member Cambridge, MA 750 Posts 1/04 | if you aren't all-analog, i could give you some links and some hopefully helpful advice since some of the better ways to encode losslessly or with loss but basically at 100% transparency never make it to cnet (partially because apple/musicmatch buy their ads). you can even scale down the clipping on what seems to be most cds recently released. as i remember, you told someone to get a terratec or an m-audio so you've avoided creative's bizzaro 48kz upsampling thing, you'll get impressive sound quality from either card, especially with some decent headphones that don't normally need an amp. if you own cds, they'll sound the same, in many cases with better clipping attenuation. just let me know and i'll hunt down a few decent links and post them here by the way, i'm jealous of your speakers, signing on to 3 more years in school means moving/space rules out anything that's hard to place or needs a sub. i think i've put together the heaviest/least-marketable mini-system between a 50lb krell kav300i integrated and the dynaudio confidence bookshelves(great sound, such truly ugly speakers) |
