There many negative stereotypes about those who watch porn:

A) Antisocial
B) TErrible at Sex
C) Nerd
D) Potential Rapist
E) Misogynist

I just don't see how being involved in porn in any capacity is seen as a good thing by society. Just because jenna jameson and Ron jeremey are somewhat mainstream celebrities doesn't mean at least 1/2 of society does not have a disdain for porn performers and even those who watch it.

There are many negative stereotypes about unfamiliar men who don't have lots of friends and a regular companion.

They include:

A) Antisocial
B) TErrible at Sex
C) Nerd
D) Potential Rapist
E) Misogynist

I just don't see how being a single man in any capacity is seen as a good thing by society. Just because Tiger Woods and George Clooney are somewhat mainstream celebrities doesn't mean at least 1/2 half of society does not have a disdain for single men and those who associate with them.

In my experience, stereotypes have a kernel of truth to them. However, I think it's more a case that the stereotype hasn't changed since the days of the guy pulling his hat low over his face and playing with himself under his raincoat in the XXX theater. The modern porn watcher is everybody. With the availability and the anonymity of the Net, plus the advent of home video (VHS then DVD), people can watch it in the privacy of their own homes. That means that everyone is watching porn now.

I think the types you mentioned, are all apt to turn to porn because of their particular problem.

A) The Anti-social: Cannot/will not form meaningful relationships and cannot exist peacefully with other humans in the outside world. Uses porn as a masturbatory aid during solo sex.

B) Terrible at Sex: Used to be ME! Guess where I learned how to give a great blowjob? From porn. People that know they're not so great in the sack turn to books and to porn (the visual demonstration) for help, misguided though it may sometimes be.

C) Nerd: Yep. Nerds sometimes watch porn, just like anybody else. I speak from experience, nerd that I am (I went to band camp!)

D) Potential Rapist: I'm assuming you mean the characterization that if a sexually-frustrated man didn't have porn for an outlet, he'd become a rapist. That's the misconception people have about rape, not about porn.

E) Misogynist: Particularly with the type of porn that's most prevalent and popular today, there's lots of porn for misogynists to like. I just wish more misogynists would sit home and beat off to porn, rather than form abusive relationships and beat their girlfriends, wives and daughters.

I spent 7 years working in video stores, all of which had rather expansive porn sections. When I have some more time to post, I'll profile some of my customers. They fit many of the stereotypes.

That's fucking sad. People misunderstand my activism. If something is wrong it needs to be attacked, not accepted. I am not one of these guys who says, "Hey, murder has been around for ages, you can't convince murderers not to kill therefore, just accept it."

Fuck NO. Evil is evil and it must be attacked. Don't get me wrong, people who share these beliefs are not neccessarily evil people but they have possess ideas that in some ways contribute to the degradation of certain people that I find unjust.

Just sitting back and saying that is the way it is will NEVER be my attitude. Others can do that if they want but occassionally I am going to speak up on it.

I am not just going to speak up on it. I promise I will find other ways of experssing my disdain for it and better yet find images that challenge these harmful and unjust perceptions.

I see too many people in the porn industry and fans alike who are so non-chaulant about poisnous perceptions that effect them and performers. I just don't see to many people who ready to engage the negative smack written about them in writings or on television.

I just don't get why people take bullshit. Why? Are we too afraid to fight. Does it cost us our health? Why is it do we accept heinous stereotypes?

I am sorry but the shit has gone on too long and we need more people to start confronting the negative bullshit aimed at us as fans and as performers. Yes stereotypes at times have a kernel of truth but are usually completely false and ignorant opinions. Why should we accept them rather than confront them.

We need activism. I am waiting for the patriot of lust who is willing to challenge what the secular and religious activist say about lust outside the context of love and all art that supports that idea.

I don't see it. I see most people on this board willing to take anything their oppponents dish out. As if words mean nothing. Well they do mean somethign and it is about time people like me take them personal.

Am I angry yes. Am I justified in being angry fuck yeah. And people on this board should not only be angry they should show it.

Offcourse we have negative stereotypes. We're all wankers after all, aren't we?

But seriously, with the ammount of money going around in the sex-industry, the mentioned stereotypes would have to hold true for the mayority of the western male population (unless you believe only few people are responsible for sustaining the pornindustry all over the globe. - Sorry, I'm not that rich).

Is this activism enough for you? It's a work in progress, and will soon move to a permanent commercial server, where I'll actively recruit good girls the world over to porn fan-dom. This Seattle housewife is looking to change the world and better the sexual lot of women everywhere.

There's no point in doing it here at ADT--I'd be preaching to the choir.

And therein is your answer. Stop waiting, and be the patriot.

I'm not quite sure what the point is of your post, Huggins.

I'm going to assume you want to change the stereotype. So let me borrow a chapter from other groups with negative steretoypes: The best way to counter a stereotype is to come out to other people as a member of that group and act against type (this is assuming that you don't fit the stereotype). If people are remotely open-minded, their perceptions change based on personal experience. If they're not, nothing you can say or do will change it. There will always be people like that. You want to identify people who are open-minded and flexible and demonstrate how reality is different from their preconceived notions.

Go ahead and try it. It's never easy but I can tell you it does work. Not overnight and not for everyone, but you'd be surprised on the impact over time.

Why negative stereotypes? Perhapsthis has something to do with it. Is there anything in porn that is as good as this gem from Mr. Johnson is bad?

What are you going on about? Activism? 2 angry-toned posts on a porn message board?

Angry posts complaining on message boards do nothing. If you're so fired up about this "issue" then pull your fist out and be that "patriot of lust", whatever that's supposed to mean.

Don't talk about it, do it! Do it!

"Waiting" is weak. No fist.

You should reach out to Violet Blue; the real one (I've seen her driver's lisense). She been doing what you're talking about for a long, long time; long enough to write about a dozen books including, The Ultimate Guide to Fellatio, The Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus, and The Ultimate Guide to Adult Videos .

Most recently she's been featured in Newsweek magazine and The Wall Street Journal. She just completed [ invalid url ] and she's currently working on The Smart Girl's Guide to Porn .

If you're serious about doing something she's a powerful ally.

I worked in two different video stores over a course of 7 years. The first was a place less than a mile outside the gate of Ft. Lewis Army Reservation. Those of you who live in military communities know just how dicey those parts of town are. By-the-hour motels, strip clubs, pawn shops, adult book stores, and lots of dry cleaners. It was a very interesting place to work, that's for sure. We rented regular Hollywood movies, and about half our store was the "adult room."

Because we were located outside the gate near the Special Forces compound, a quarter of our customers were Green Berets. They rented a lot of porn (except Mr P, but I found out later that he just rented his porn elsewhere because he had a crush on me and didn't want me to think he was a pervert), and they were constantly late returning it because they deployed a lot. Green Berets are like rock stars to single women in an Army community. They have their own groupies. Shit, I was one. They're confident men with laid-back, easygoing personalities (they get stereotyped with gung-ho Marines and Rangers), fierce intelligence, rebellious natures, open minds and soft hearts. They're the coolest, nicest, smartest, fittest and sexiest group of individuals I've ever come across. They have zero trouble getting laid, and they all watch porn. Of course, porn has always been consumed by military personnel. I find it amazing that the neo-puritans want to take away a long-standing, traditional vice of the soldier/sailor/airman/marine that helps them secure their economic superiority.

Anyway, I worked there during the first Gulf war, and holy crap we rented out a lot of porn during that time. We also rented a ton of extra players and patch cables. Women were copying and sending porn to their husbands under the guise of "baby's first birthday" home videos. Some Army wives had genuine cottage industries going, shipping contraband, pirated porn to Saudi Arabia for their sex-deprived men.

So there's two types of porn consumers. Soldiers and soldiers' wives. And just because you don't see the wife, doesn't mean the porn isn't for her. She just sends the man to get it because she's too mortified to go herself.

Then we had the locals that lived in the slum apartments and trailers around us. They were all races and degrees of attractiveness. Not a single one of them ever gave me the creeps, and I worked alone at night there. Sure they were mostly drug dealers, gangsters and pimps, but they weren't rapists. Rapists don't ask the clerk how her weekend was, and say please and thank you to her when renting their porn. In fact, the only stalker I ever had while I was there--the only guy that ever followed me home, threatened me, and tried to attack me in the parking lot--was a medic at the Army hospital. And he never rented a single porno movie. The resident pimp (picture Huggybear--he actually dressed like that) who always had one or two teenage crack addicts on his arm never rented porn. He only rented westerns.

Of course we employees rented more porn than anybody. We got it for free! That was back when I watched all-girl porn exclusively, which because that was back when there was not a single good-looking man in straight porn. At the store we had 1 single guy (who was dating my sister), 1 married woman in her late 30's, one divorced single mom in her 40's, and me, the hot 21-year-old single girl. We all took home free porn, frequently.

The one porn-renter I'll never forget was a gal named Michelle. She had cerebral palsy and was confined to a wheelchair. She'd roll in and usually rent porn. She had great trouble speaking but I could usually understand her. This was a woman that didn't have many opportunities to have sex. Whenever I did see her with a man, he was usually exploiting her severe disability, taking her money and treating her like crap. Porn was a major sexual outlet for her at times when she was single. She couldn't reach the higher shelves, so I'd usually go back in the porn room with her and help her shop. I'd spend an hour in there with her while she perused the covers. After a while I finally created a small section just for her, with the type of stuff I knew she liked, on some lower shelves, easy for her to reach. That way she could shop with some privacy.

At my other store, which was in a better neighborhood with more wealthy clients (like Yanni and Linda Evans), we had all kinds of porn renters too. We had a handful of couples that were unashamed of their rentals, and would joke about the wild night they planned to have when they got home. We had 2 lesbian couples that always rented male gay porn. I wish I'd asked them why, but I was too professional at the time. We had single guys rent, too.

There was only one man that fit the stereotype. He was a nice enough man, but he was a slob. He always smelled, his clothes were always stained, he never shaved, bathed or brushed his teeth, and he was always waiting for me to unlock the store every Tuesday morning to get all the new porn releases. He wasn't mentally ill--we were 1/4 mile from the state mental hospital, and I dealt with the insane every day--he was just a pathetic slob. But again, he's the ONLY porn buyer I've EVER come across in all my years purveying porn that fit the stereotype.

I know of whom you speak, TonyC, and I admire her a great deal. I've actually read a lot of her stuff and I think she's great. My purpose is slightly different at this time. I want to reach the woman that really has no clue about her own sexuality, her own tastes, and has been a good girl all her life. Violet Blue seems to aim to a slightly more worldly/sophisticated group of women. Let's see if I can word this correctly. From what I've read of Violet's, she writes to the woman that lives the lifestyle in Cosmo magazine. I write to the woman that lives Better Homes and Gardens. She would be a powerful ally (you sound like Emperor Palpatine) in my eventual goal to integrate those two groups of women until there's no distinguishing between them. Every last woman will be a sex goddess, whether she's a corporate CEO, a porn starlet, or a stay-at-home mommy. There will be no good girl or bad girl. There will only be complete, total woman. But FIRST, we have to reach that embarrassed little prude, the one with her nose stuck in a romance novel.

Having ventured into the proverbial woods myself so recently, I think I can be a fresh guide to those newborn babes. This is something that I have to do now and with as little outside influence as possible in order to present it with any degree of innocence. And that's my target audience: innocents. I'm writing all the content myself, with an aim toward easing newbies into porn viewership. I have a few questions about 2257 stuff, image rights, and the pitfalls of running an adult oriented site. I'm certain Violet could help me with that stuff. She'd be a great interview subject as well, as would the founder of Eve's Garden. My audience is the woman that was me two years ago, and is still me sometimes now. The one who's literally shocked and embarrassed by watching attractive people fucking on her TV. I want to help those women while I still find it somewhat shocking and embarrassing.

To give you an idea of just how powerful, when I came onto ADT in the Summer of 2003 we had one shot on video release. Late that year Violet put her considerable reputation behind our work and named Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story one of the top five adult films of the year.

When our second film Xana and Dax: When Opposites Attract was released, Violet called it one of the best adult films ever. With in a few weeks, X&D had sold as many copies as M&J sold in it's first year.

In no small part, the strength of Violet's support allowed us to elavate our production standards. Before Violet singled us out we were shooting MiniDV; now we're shooting Super16 and mastering in HD. We use every trick in the book to save money by doing it ourselves, but if it comes from yellow box from Rochester it costs money, money that has to come from moving units. And with Violet on our side we're been able to the move units neccesary to pay for filmstock and lab bills, and still keep a roof over our heads!

Again, I would urge you to reach out to her. If anything the fact that you're speaking to different markets (though not as different as you might think!) even easier for your efforts to have a synergistic effect. Although her writing education work keeps her on a punishing schedule, I'm sure she'd love to hear from a fellow porn patriot !

Sorry, but I hardly see the need for "activism" on this issue. So many people watch porn, it's idiotic for anyone to be critical of the "porn fan". At worst, hardcore porn fans fall into the same category as Trekkies and pro wrestling marks. It's just not an issue.

You know who's done the most for making porn-watching less-guilty pursuit? The writers of the sitcom, "Friends." By portraying Joey and Chandler as porn fans, they greatly dispelled the old image of the porn fan as the creepy loser. They're just regular guys. Unless you count Chandler's foray into shark porn.

Lets see:
I have a knack for talking to people when I am in the mood. People open up to me, yet I rarely form close relationships. Some people say I just don't waste time with those who aren't worth getting close to.
Practice and be willing to listen.
I got the engineering degree, so that means I am a permanent member of the Nerd/Geek society.
Well I own guns too, so some say I am also a potential murderer. Just so much noise to me.
I look down on women for the same reasons as men. Were all kind of fucked up.

Also the writers of "The X Files". They incorporated star David Duchovny"s porn friendlyness into the character of Fox Mulder. In his Playboy interview many years ago Duchovny related that Alicia Monet was his favorite star and she helped him get through some lonely times back in the late '80s.

I don't get it. ADT is a porn forum of porn fans correct. Porn fans are getting blasted by society right. Therefore, preaching as you call it is neccessary.

If something is wrong thant attack it. That is my philosophyh. If that is preaching then I will preach till the day I die.

Will I change the world by myself. We as fans need to change it together we must unite and fight as a team. If we all have this mentality that "I can't change the world therefore, I will lie down and accept the perception aimed at me." We will never change the world. Will this perception change within a year nope? That is not the point of activism.

Actvism's main point is to confront evil ideas with the goal of eradicating it within decades maybe even within a century. But lying down and saying, "I can't change the world of corrupt ideas, therefore, I will just ignore and keep quiet about them will change nothing FOREVER! If black revolutionaries had the mentality that "preaching" to the world won't do anything, trust me blacks would still be behind the bus.

What I am hearing from many is that we are monetarily succesful and we don't need to do jack. That is sad and disappointing underestimation of forces that are intent of destroying your industry and the cultrure you reflect.

Partially, correct I want to assist in changing the sterotype. I am not Moses or Malcom X. My point is that porn fans need to do something to change it rather than ignoring it is a problem and it is wrong. Frankly, telling one person who is bold enought to complain rightly about it, is preaching tells me how we have conditioned our minds to take any negative perception aimed at us.

Exactly, and trust me I am working on that as we speak. The second thing, I feel I need to do is to make an effort to fire some people up on this board who feel lying down is acceptable. Some people are saying that I am complaining without even knowing that most of my activism is indirect and subtle. Why they consider my anger as unjustified and anger that gays feel for being considered immoral is justified is beyond me.

Sorry bud that this approach offends you but part of actvism and being a revoltutionary is to point out "corrupt" perceptions aimed at destroying a culture or even a people. This is done by writing.

And from the activists that I have studied very few can have a "be happy" approach to EVIl. Malcom X, Black Panthers, and even Ghandi harshly pointed out the evils done to their people. THis was done by writing and it much if it was done in anger.

ACtually they have done a lot compared to writing a non-emotional response toward the evil inflicted toward my peer group. I mean what gay activist is going to have a calm response toward the hideous perceptions of gay people? Anger is part of activism. If I said this in a calm and neutral manner, more people that have your mentality would think confronting negative perceptions toward our peer group is someone else's job.
Well sir or madam, I am. Most of my revolutionary tactics are quite subtle and lead by example but part of being a revoltionary is to confront evil with hatred and anger. Why should I be happy that my cultural praticed is hideously percieved by many who make hiring decions at firms that I want to work for and use this negative percetption to block me from being employed? I am just supposed to take it without speaking up about it. Sorry no more.
I agree and I am doing something about it right now. My question is why can't the rest of us chip in confronting these negative images aimed at our group?

I hate to break it to you but if a politician admitted to watching GAngBang USA, he will not win a race. If I were on the job and just said I watched adult videos, I could be fired, I would at least get a talking to by my supervisor.

Many people watch porn but a lot of them don't admit it. Why? If porn is so acceptable why do we have to be so careful who we admit this too. Unless you are Howard STern on most jobs mentioning you watch porn without going into the explicit details of each scene can get you in troulbe.

If porn watching is so acceptbable, I would not feel the need to hide my porn from my parents particularly my Mother. Trust me if she sawn the covers of what I watched, she will react very negatively. She may probably assume I have some deep seated hatred for women. A facial to many women and men doesn't reflect eccentuating a women's sexuality, it refelcts a contempt for women on some deep seated level.

Porn watching may be popupular but admitting to certain people will get you scorn or the assumption there is something wrong with you. I wish this were true but the fact remains that many women and men hide the fact that they are porn perfomers because they think their parents will be disappointed and even disown them. Many men and even women hide the fact that they watch porn because they are afriad people will think they are sluts who fuck everyone that moves or people who have a deep seated contempt for especially women on a romantic or in general.

I see a beautiful young fragile build teen-girl smiling and waiting for the things to come. Then I see five beer belly bums enter the room, slapping the girl around , spitting in her face, stomping on her head. They crudely deform her face to a ugly grimace and laugh about her. Then they take turns gagging her as awkward as possible while one guy holds her arms in a firm grip so she can't even tap off.
The girl starts to cry her "punishers" laugh. After the second mental break down and the girl nearly passing out from choking they decide it is time for the final cumshot. I hear some comic like voice saying "hey, look at that" and one big hand smears a drop of makeup and cum in her already red eyes. "Here you are stupid bitch your parents can be proud of you lil whiner". The girl says nothing anymore. "Talk to me" the hand comes fast so quick you can hardly see it without slow motion but you hear the clapping sound of a slap. The screen fades, credits.

The company which produced that crap might even get an AVN award for it. Some retarded reviewer at an online store gives the product five virtual stars and writes "great stuff!" What do we think of him?
At the AVN awards the producer will shake hands and exchange fake smiles with many known and not so known folks posting right here at ADT. It's business after all, you have success putting out such bullshit equals you do right and well -- no further justification necessary.

Am I a religious activist because I tell you to fuck off with this sick shit? Nah, it must be something different don't you think?
How come I enjoy sex and luv to share that enjoyment with others but still think people who want to watch this girl break down are losers full of shit?
How come I think the producers shaking hands with these male freak performers are full of shit too?

Is a glamourus porn movie like Pirates! really what stirs up all the hate? Maybe for your grandma but certainly not for society in general. So what is it that is wrong here? Once you found out you can start your operation.

Huggins293, I think you are searching for answers looking at the wrong people. It's not fanatically religious activists, politicans or old fashioned people responsible for the contempt you might experience in some circles of society as a pornfan or even as a porntalent. It is stuff like that which makes you wish morons and other wretched failures would not be allowed to buy a camera and destroy what should be the most fun thing in the world: FUCKING!

But X-Ray most of us don't watch that shit. I find that shit reprehensible. It is unfair for society secular or religous to brand me in that group when mainstream porn is not even close to what you described.

You imply that the vile porn that you described is the reason why secular and religous people are after the porn industry as a whole. X-Ray hostility toward porn has existed in the 70s even more so due to the ever more legal hostility. People just find the basics in porn just simply fucking revolting visually and more importantly legally/morally. People find blow jobs and facials degrading and most importantly a sign of hatred and cotnempt of particularly womeon on some level. Therefore, they don't need to view or hear that type of vile porn you described in order to have outright contempt for the ideas and images that our industry generally presents. Vivid, JKP, Wicked and even our more hardcore genres like diabolic, Devils films in my mind defy the type of scenario you described in porn. At least the first three are mainstream porn companies.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Utah a state that bans all forms of explcit material?

Many secular and religious people find that movie revolting because it is porn. Unfortunately my friend, even if a poltician admitted to watching pirates. Once the media finds out there is oral sex, hard or soft fucking and facials, asslicking, a lot of people will still find it revolting morally and visually. They'll just think you are dressing it up to appeal to the mainstream. That politicain is quite frankly history during a race or re-election.

Secondly, the notion that grandma is generally the porn hater is false. There are young men and women of a secular and religous background that find porn morally detestable and that includes shit like even playboy and especially means shit that JKP and Vivid produce.

Perhaps most people on ADT don't share my sentiment because most of their peers and parents think porn is a good thing or their parents casually disagree. In the real world that is not the case.

Okay if porn watching is so acceptable in society in general, how come there are very few politicains that want to admit watching porn. HOw come many of us who are not on ADT feel the need to hide porn from parents who find much of it revolting? Sorry a ton of men and women with no religious affiliation find the notion of someone wanting to watch sex very disturbing and espcially find the someone who is very hardcore in watching sex very distrubing.

If porn was so acceptable why is the mere mentioning of porn in many professions a legal defintion of sexual harrassment. I mean dude you can say, "I love watching porn" and if a woman finds porn revolting she can accuse you of creating a unfriendly environment. The mere showing of adult covers that are not even explicit or even show nudity can be legally constructed as creating a "hostile" environment. I know this because I work in such a profession.

If had more than one woman let's say 3 or 4, I would be completely drained, and porn would be boring.

Here is the most daming evidence of how much porn is seen as anti-spirtual and against most theological teachings. Do you notice that very very few preachers admit to watching porn? Why is that because most of them find even mainstream porn morally revolting and worse "diabolic" against the teachings of sexuality of their church.

Preachers that are from jewish, christian, muslim and other eastern relgiions, find porn morally revolting and preach serious hostilty toward ALL pornography and inherently degrading to especially women. Yet, porn is fucking acceptably by society. Our religious instituions dominant the moral attitudes of our society if they render it negative and most of America is religous, how can we deny the still dominant negative attitude toward all porn in society.

So X-Ray I am afraid that our religous leaders and many secular groups equally as well share a contempt to any form of porn especially when it celebrates lust outside a romantic relationship. I hear this constantly in their sexual tirades on the pulpit. Porn in general promotes that idea.

Here's an idea for you Huggins;

Go get out your favorite porn DVD and put in the player during primetime

Turn the sound off.

While the DVD is playing, switch back and forth between the DVD and whatever is on your local ABC affiliate.

Try to imagine you're someone who "doesn't get" porn. Does the polish of what's on the DVD come anywhere close to what you see on the TV?

As has been already said, it's vicious circle. Pornographer can't make the kind of money networks and movie studios can make. Without that kind of money, we can't make shows that are anywhere the quality of productions that is expected from any other form of entertainment. Without that level of quality, we depend on the titilation of sex. Titilation become trasgression, and transgression moves from playful to poisonous.

And as the barriers to entry fall to almost, it's easier and easier for a Grip Johnson or similar to eek out living a few hundred DVDs at a time. The $1000 video camera, and $.45/copy DVD replication create a nitch that doesn't require skill or experience or a love of sex to exploit; only the willingness to be the most offensive kid on the block.

Do the 1500 or so copies of MILF Meat or Donkey Punch that Grip is going to sell define the industry? Of course not. A lot more people are going to hear about Pirates, and it's going to make a hell of a lot more money. But MILF Punch and the rest of the industry that relies on pure shock to sell will get attention that is hugely disproportionate to the effort it took to make them, or the financial rewards they garner. In the minds of many, Pirates, and all the respectablity it's enjoying right now, looks like an aberation.

Violet has put a lot of effort into helping women and couples navigate their way through the dizzying world of porn, which can seem and very often is hostile to women. But I think it would be gross mischaracterization to say that Violet is hostile to men watching porn, or thinks that watching as a part of a couple is a morally superior experience.

From a the last note Violet sent me:

"Blogger is being pissy about my comment, but I love it. Porn for
Lovers... it's just lovely. Plus it's a positive statement. Keep the
word 'couples' out of it -- not everyone fucking to your films will be
in a couple anyway. Couples is a bad word to use in conjunction with
porn; it raises too many anxieties,

Violet does have an edge, and she's not afraid to say "this sucks" when she thinks something sucks, especially if she thinks it's dishonest too. That's made her a few enemies, but her fans are legion.

Try giving her another read, with the presumption that she very much wants you to watch good porn and have great orgasms. I think you'll have a change of heart!

Fuck no! Should it have to? Nope. My mission is not to make everybody like porn. My mission is to lessen the moral and yes still present legal hostility toward porn. The best way to do this is to aspire to attract a large fan base of porn voyuers.

Tony, do you know of any senator who has admitted to watching GAngland 123 in public or on radio show? I would like to know? I am just amazed that politicians even democrats never blurted out their liking of porn. And porn watching is so acceptable.

You won't get a senator to talk about sex or masturbation either, but they do it. That doesn't mean those acts are unacceptable to them either, politically. Just that they won't talk about it.

There's a difference between the public and private realm. People in the political world don't talk about the private realm except in the most vague, PC of terms because they seek to avoid controversy. That's political survival. So what they do in their private life and what they'll admit to doesn't necessarily correlate to what they think, and what they think or do doesn't necessarily correlate to how they'll vote. Plus, politics is historically more conservative in ideals and values than in general society.

That said, porn is not mainstreamed yet. It's under the umbrella of sex and American society is still too repressed to bbe comfortable having it out in the open. But you won't get a slap in the face if you ask your SO if she'd like to see a porn. You got teenagers who will wear little playboy bunnies on all their clothes and call themselves pornstahs when they're all hoochied up going to the clubs. People know a couple pornstars as household names. All that wasn't acceptable a generation ago.

Progress is incremental. Surveys have it that the vast majority of Americans have seen porn at some point in their lives. So I really don't think they think of themselves, their buddies, their gf they talked into watching a porn with them etc. as some trolls in a basement for watching it. But if you're a serious porn fan, well then yeah they'll probably think you're a little weird. It's like it's acceptable to like the Lord of the Ring movies, but it's weird to be able to be too knowledgeable or god forbid go to conventions and try to talk to the stars etc. So in that respect, "normality" or "acceptability" might be seen as a matter of degree when it comes to porn.

WTF????

So as long as someone fits in your narrow view of what should be acceptable, it is okay, but if they don't, even if they are pro-adult films, they are wrong?

Your crusade is going to go well.

I suggest finding and joining forces with Arthur as his crusade needs some help too.

No politician is ever going to talk about Gangbang Girl anything. Nor will they talk about Deep Throat anything. Then again, I don't see them talking about Pulp Fiction or Batman either. Maybe you should include them.

I'm sorry but I'm never going to walk around work talking about Shoot Cum in Her Eye 42, why, it isn't appropriate. Adult films will probably always stay an underground enjoyment. Because it isn't appropriate for the work place, children's story hour, PBS, etc.

Uh a politician doesn't have to go into details about Gangbang Girl. What I am saying is that if the media found out that he watched a video like that and if he admitted it. He'll be bounced out of office or fail to win an election. That is unacceptable period!
Uh you don't even have to go that far. And I did not say talking about porn in great detail was appropriate for a politician. What I am saying is that if you had a porn video in your locker which showed no nudity and a woman or even a guy saw it and found it revolting it can constitute creating a hostile working environment.

Let's say you were gay and I am a homophobe. YOu got some gay porn in your locker at work and accidentally you left beside your locker with your name. The porn cover and back have no nudity. Guess what I can have your ass fired. Now tell me why our legal system has gone to that extreme. Please.

They really don't have to talk about it. The only thing that has to happen is for the news media (tabliods) to get some source that a politicain was seen at an adult convention with Jenna jameson or some other porn star. They get more information on what porn he likes. If that includes shit that a lot of his voters are not down with. His political career is in jeopardy. So really a politicain doesn't have to publicly say, " I love slutfest 05" in public.
You hit the nail on the head controversy. Porn is still controversial, but too many people are deluded that it is mainstream.
I could have not said it better myself. Very good observation.
They might not slap you in the face but she may be offended greatly. And trust me a lot of women would consider breaking up with a guy if they even asked such a question. There are women who love porn but there are plenty of women who can't even deal with a women wearing mini-skirt in her private life. I know women and men who would disown their friends and daughters if they found out they gave blowjobs. As a matter of fact I have a cousin who will disown any of his friends if he found out they ate pussy. These people exist. Although, porn has shown me evidence to the contrary but the black community is rumored to have a strong hostility toward oral sex.
That is true but remember you still got tons of parents that will disown them if they even think about being a porn star. Most parents and the so called fans will not date any pornstar regardless if they have fucked a few people on film.
Yeah, most Americans viewed porn just to see what it is like doesn't mean they respect it as a business or find it morally respectable.
Watching it to see what it is like is one thing. But if a guy said he likes watching ganbang to a potential mate, he might have some problems. Sure there are women and men who find porn disgusting but won't use this as a factor to eliminate potential lovers. But many of them do.
That is the best thing they could think. Trust me hon my mom is not only going to think I am a littler wierd for being a serious porn fan. And there a plenty of moms and dads like my mom out there.

Exactly, Flash. Porn is inappropriate conversation in most circumstances. As is sex in general.

Huggins, I want to know who has criticized/stereotyped you. Have you personally been persecuted for your porn viewership? Exactly what happened?

Porn is a private pursuit. Now with the internet, one selects it, views it and interacts with it in private. Porn is readily available, including the type that you personally like to watch. You are not barred access to it. There is no reason at all to publicize the fact that you enjoy porn. None. If you choose to do so, you may be confronted with stereotypes. That is a risk you take.

You want to know what stereotypes affect me in my daily life?

1) I'm a woman, so I don't know shit about cars and therefore deserve to be ripped off by mechanics and car dealers. Total bullshit.

2) I'm a mother, so I should be completely selfless. Total bullshit.

3) I'm a mother, so I'm a shitty employee, not worth promoting. Total bullshit.

4) I'm a woman, so when I complain about something important, my complaint's not valid--I must have PMS. Total bullshit.

5) I'm a woman, so when I'm decicive in the corporate world, I'm a bitch, not a leader. Total bullshit.

6) I take anti-depressants, so I must be a flake. Total bullshit.

I've got bigger stereotypes in my life to contend with on a daily basis than any that might pertain to my porn viewership. I loudly fight for myself every single day, combatting misconceptions and refusing to be subject to social stigma. I have chosen to go public with my porn viewership because it has enhanced my life and I think discussing it with other women might enhance theirs. I have been stigmatized for it--yes. I combat the stigma with humor and gentle education, and I only engage in that battle with people that actually matter to me. Porn's a good thing in my life. I enjoy it. I can't be bothered with those that refuse to give it a chance. It's their loss, not mine.

basically, you're right. but there's some regression-my grandmother saw "behind the green door" in a movie theatre. the day "o-ring blowout" makes itself something other than disposably-appealing to the raincoater crowd isn't going to come. honestly, it's too hard to seperate the sex from the hostility with everything short of pirates and tonyc-shit. it's almost unthinkable for an intelligent white woman to walk into a building and sit down and watch fundmentally-fucked up things done to people who look just like them, the novelty's worn off for many. ages ago, it's not hip or art or avant-garde. the problem's the product. everybody likes sex. the concept got old white broads into a theatre to watch people fuck a few decades ago, it can be done again.
