What I personally know is that some of the "Private" films are now less popular in the UK amongst regular moviegoers.
The criticisms include the the "flashing lights" business, "black & white scenes interposed" "over-brightness" and "weakly focussed or hazy photography" and also sometimes "too much scenery and travelogue"! and the "lack of group scenes".
I have heard reliably that this is the criticism of film fans who watch these movies week after week, year after year and have seen thousands of movies over the last 25-30 years or so, - more than most of us.
For myself, I dislike "anal" altogether and would be quite happy for this omitted.
In the old days, there was little "anal" evident, and especially in American movies.
The main culprit was "Marc Dorcel" (directed by the famous director Michel Ricaud, who made great films). *
"Private" movies didn't exist in those days but they have made up for lost time! I couldn't bear to see Pierre Woodman slobbering over the young lovelies and fingering them crudely (to my view) in his so-called "anal" process!
What I did notice in the very new "Private Extreme" film is much more emphasis on ample breasts and breast action and handling by the female rather than the male at the end.
That's basically what I personally thought was much better.
The other people who I have described above would probably be mortified if "anal" was to be dropped, however I would point out that if cinemas were only showing soft porn, people would still go and watch and be satisfied.

* You can get an idea of what is was like being directed by Michel Ricaud (who lost his life while filming for "Private" when he was swept off a rock by a huge wave) if you get hold of the DVD "La Femme En Noir" (The Woman or Lady in Black) on VMD where a long "extra" section shows the movie with Mr Ricaud heard shouting frantic directions to the two persons involved. They get no peace at all and every movement is directed - a bit harrowing for them I thought!
I wonder therefore what Mario Salieri's direction was like as the lovely redhead Hungarian star Erika Bella (Erika Rouge) described working for him as being like "torture"!
Erika also said in an interview in a "Private" magazine that she didn't like "anal" but the pay was better!
Silvia said "it hurt" (at first) and reiterated it was for the girl to decide when answering questions on her Fan Club Site. One of the questions enquired about pre-filming "rectal cleaning pumps" - that about sums it up for me! I believe someone said that "God must have been a town planner - putting a pleasure centre next to a ----house!"
Seymore Butts' famous dark-haired star (A.K.) was advised to stop it altogether by her doctor otherwise he said she would suffer in later life.
