I'll probably be in the minority, but here I go! Lexi Belle: I just don't understand all the hype around her, she just doesn't look as attractive as people make out, and her performing is just uninteresting for me. Remy Lacroix: She's a very attractive woman, but her tease intros only what gets me off. 9/10 in looks, 5/10 in performance. Chanel Preston: Again, looks amazing but her scenes bring nothing new or interesting to the table. Jynx Maze: Not for me, with a personality I do not want to associate myself with. Jenna Haze: Lots of praise but her scenes are pretty mediocre. Kendra Lust: Might need to see more of her but her fake tits and OTT acting in scenes ruins it for me. Audrey Bitoni: She looks way too fake for me. Not a fan. But this is just my opinion anyway.
I have to laugh at people stating Jenna Jameson was " overrated ". She WAS porn in the 90s and early 2000s. Unfortunately, for her, her brand got overexposed with Club Jenna and all the nonsense came with it. By 2007, when she made her famous " exit " speech at the AVN show, most people were happy to see her leave. However, she was NEVER overrated. She set the standard for " Porn Star " during her time in adult. With that said, I was never a big fan of Jenna's. I was way more into the likes of Shayla LaVeaux, Briana Banks, Racquel Darrian and Heather Hunter ( to name a few ). However, Jenna's star was the one that shined brightest during THAT era. Since Jenna left, few ( if any ) have reached the level she reached at the turn of the 21st Century. All THAT and she didn't do anal...go figure!!!

When somebody/something is very well known/popular, they are overrated. It's like when a performer starts her first year, people brand her underrated, but after she's hit the limelight she's overrated. It's sort of a hipster trend.

I'm not really a fake tits guy, but there are exceptions. The problem I have with Kendra Lust's is they make her look disproportionate with her athletic body. Now look at Romi Rain's, they are perfect.

What "overrated" means is "I set the bar, therefore people who rate her higher than me are overrating her." Ergo, I can declare anyone "overrated" if I see people rating them higher than me. I think that that whole concept is ridiculous, but of course people who don't are going call Jenna overrated if they see others rating her higher than they are.

Hmmmm have I seen alot of overrated stars . . . well so far the ones that come to mind are Lana Rhoades and Scarlett Sage, saw Lana paired with Melissa Moore and didn't even get a rise out of me. Scarlett Sage with the magnificent Jelena Jensen and the scene had all the heat of a Minnesota midwinter. To be categorized in porn as overrated, 1st you have to be popular. So, it's a compliment for a performer to be mentioned here. When you visit the underrated thread, often the 1st reaction is "who the hell is she".
Now that this thread is back alive I'm gonna say Kissa Sins. I think most of her fame is because she is the wife of famous Johnny Sins not because of her scenes.

Hands-down, Sasha Grey. I NEVER understood the hype for her back when she was still in the industry, nor did I find her attractive at all. That and stuff about supposed diva behavior elsewhere just lowered my opinion on her even more, although at this point it's all water under the bridge considering she's been gone for almost a decade now.

Not on account of not liking them - when someone uses the term Superstar in the adult industry, I think of Julia Ann - Jelena Jensen, Nina Hartley, Charlotte Stokely even Adriana Chechik who I am not a major fan of. The term superstar implies someone who has pulled off a feat or had the kind of longevity in this business that is unbelievably hard to pull off. Adriana's a superstar on account of being prolific, pulling off triple anal and still having the energy after all that to go home for a threesome. That's pretty damn impressive in my book because I'd be so exhausted after all that - a major snooze would be in order. Overrated for me is when your reputation and your performance don't match up. This is basically it. People have their own set of expectations and no matter how great a performer is otherwise if that performer doesn't meet the person's made up expectations they simply conclude that that performer is "over-rated" regardless of their actual performance skills and fanbase size. If someone likes really hardcore over the top performances and a particular big name pornstar is more well known for more erotic performances most hardcore fans will not like that popular pornstar despite the fact that they are actually a great performer but just not the type of performer they've chosen to like. Some people just refuse to acknowledge that not everyone likes what they like and not every pornstar or studio is putting out porn aimed towards their tastes. This is annoyingly common on this site. If a girl has a big fan following she's obviously doing something or has some sort of appeal that appeals to a large section of fans. I wasn't a fan of Jenna Jameson's type of performances but they weren't aimed to appeal to my porn tastes. So in my mind she wasn't "over-rated". Sometimes it's not even about performances....it's about the girl having a certain type of appeal. Sometimes it's looks. Sometimes it's just that certain something you can't put your finger on. Many of my fav pornstars aren't the best looking girls or strong performers but they just have that something that just appeals to me personally. There are times when a girl actually has all the right stuff about her but she still might not do much for me. Tori Black I think is very pretty, a strong performer and does lots of IR, yet she does nothing for me for whatever reason. So in my mind I wouldn't argue if someone is "over-rated" unless they were being hailed by a large number of people as the best at something and it wasn't factually true. If someone says Jenna Jameson was the biggest pornstar of all time...I have no problem with that. If a lot of people said Jenna was the best performer of all time then that's highly debatable.
I always thought it was mostly just because she did anal all the time and was one of the prettiest ones to do so during the gonzo era. ("Pretty" in the sense that she had a type of look that tends to sell well in porn.) A lot of the high-frequency anal performers of that era were only so-so in the looks department and the prettier ones rarely stayed long. Sasha Grey did stick around and kind of became #1 by default, IMHO, regardless of her performances not being much to write home about. (Suffice it to say I don't "get" many people's nostalgia for that era altogether...)

Average face (not seeing the "striking beauty" that so many claim, or even a look that sells/sold well in porn), muted expressions and one of the most androgynous bodies ever (probably my least favorite thing to see in porn). I'd say she was a good performer, she definitely had some crazy sex, but still nothing that was *too* rare for that era.

I commented on this thread months ago and I'm going to be honest, the one and ONLY pornstar who deserves to truly be called "overrated" who I can think of is Mia Khalifa. She barely had anything interesting and she all of the sudden got popular and became a celebrity for no damn reason, and even if there was a reason it was nothing special. Stars like Alexis Texas, Lisa Ann, Sasha Grey, Kendra Lust, Lexi Belle, Adriana Chechik, etc. whether you want to call these folks overrated in your opinions or not, they absolutely deserved to be legendary pornstars because of all the legit work they showed for. Sasha Grey won performer of the year 10 years ago, so there was a reason she was really hot at the time. Kendra Lust is the top MILF pornstar of now the last few years like Lisa Ann used to be back then. I can go on and on, but all of these stars had legit reasons for being popular with legit awards, legit scenes, and legit followings and there was a reason they became big names, and they absolutely deserved it, and I can understand why some people may call them "overrated" because deep down inside they are tired of hearing about them over and over again, but there's nothing we can do about that. However, I never saw any of this I mentioned with Mia Khalifa at all. She was just generic and boring. I think Mia's popularity was based on multiple things that all came together to make her a big deal. Her popularity comes from her ethnicity, her looks, her boobs, and how she got noticed by the mainstream. Again, I don't see her as over-rated because no one was saying she's a great performer, or was doing exceptional work. She just became well known fairly quickly and people wanted to see more from her. This happens sometimes...a girl becomes popular because lots of people take notice of her and not necessarily because of her work/performances.
The only hot scene I've ever seen Lana do was an FTV Girls scene with Stella Cox. The rest of her stuff, meh...

Chanel Preston's underwhelming scenes are kind of a testament to how much of a professional she is (she works pretty consistently). To use a mathematical term, her scenes have a fairly normal distribution. She's more or less run the gamut of major studios and therefore has done some edgier, raunchier stuff like kink, some more vanilla run of the mill productions like naughty america, and then a bunch of stuff in the middle. Her dogfart and evil angel scenes are pretty hardcore, and if she had swallowed in her wet food scene it would've been my favorite blowbang scene of all time.
If you think they're overrated, they're overrated for you. Someone else probably loves them. Mia Khalifa doesn't get you hard.....Oh, Boohoohoo....find someone that does, bright boy. I agree with you, mostly about Alexis Texas. She has been in the industry for practically 12 years, has one of the greatest asses, has performed in over 600 movies and also directed a few, but some people brand her overrated all because she hasn't done IR and is not as hardcore as the other performers you've mentioned. This is just me so don't shoot me. Lisa Ann does nothing for me. Just too overdone. I was never into the woman who's look screams "I'm a porn star". I tend to like one who are just pretty but can blend into the background. Not knocking her at all.
it's a matter of taste. I think that she was good looking but there were many others performer as hot or hotter than her. Then and after her. But what it's not a matter of taste is the fact that as a performer there are literally thousand performers better than her.
