I just read in the new AVN a little feature about the 25 milestones that changed porn
Obviously pirates was going to be in there, and it mentioned it is the most profitable adult movie ever made so I was curious as to just how many copies were sold or how much profit really was made.
Any ideas?

That's a question for someone at DP to answer or comment on. Will see if someone from there will.

All I know is that I still can't keep it in stock. People ask for it every day.

And don't forget it was also released in an R-rated version that is carried at Blockbuster.

Companies usually don't publish sales numbers.
According to DP "they currently maintain more than 40% of the adult DVD market".

Interesting thread about sales.

Deep Throat remains the most profitable adult movie ever made in fact it may still be in the top ten most profitable movies ever made (in terms of ROI and inflation adjusted)
Pirates did well no doubt about it.
DPs claim to own 40% of the adult DVD market is nonsense when you don't release numbers you can say anything you want but it doesnt make it so. Its all spin.
There are japanese companies that could buy DP with their petty cash.

I doubt the sales for any one dvd reach into the millions of units sold. There may have been a select few that have been able to do it over time... but I remember reading an article (that seemed fairly credible) where Larry Flint talked about his sales for the Hustler Snoop Dogg dvd. He didn't give an exact number but said the number of units sold were in the hundreds of thousands, and that dvd was supposedly awarded by AVN as the best selling dvd that year. Of course, this now relies on the credibility of AVN... so you never know.
