Probably a topic that has been talked about before on this message board before, but I am new and wasn't able to find them. But I'm with someone who is a little hesitant to watch porn and I want to ease her into it. Does anyone know any titles or movie studios that deal specifically with making porn that has, let's say, a plot, and has more of a romantic side to the movie? I guess more of a viewpoint for a woman, like more oral sex by the guy on the girl and what not. I don't want to expose her to guys grabbing the girl's head and shoving her into his cock and cum shots on her face right away, if you catch my drift. :) Any help would be appreciated!

Check out a bit of the Feature Side forum for plenty of responses to this type of question. Beyond that for very couples friendly porn, check out the New Sensations "Romance" line, some of Will Ryder's porn parodies, or most any of Stormy Daniels' Wicked features. Digital Playground has also been doing some really great things lately with lighter features. Although it's put forward for women, I'd avoid Candida Royalle's Femme line and be very careful around Nicholas Steele's releases as they frequently have a feeling like they're afraid of getting too sexy and leave things held back because of it.

Thanks astroknight. I actually checked out "Under the Covers" by Candida Royalle since I heard a lot of good things about Candida Royalle but it didn't really seem too great to me either. I'll look into your suggestions. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the links, Gore Gore Girl! She has specifically mentioned that she likes seeing more cunnilingus action and scenes where the guys weren't as aggressive. I know I've seen films where they play up the music in a more romantic setting and there is more foreplay involved, but I just can't seem to recall anything. I'd almost say she's looking for softcore but you actually see them doing it. :) If that makes sense.

I spent a huge amount of time finding "woman-friendly" porn for my wife. It turns out that she didn't necessarily want soft-lit and ultra-romantic porn (although she does enjoy a well done cinema style porn like Tinto Brass produces). Really all she wanted was male talent that didn't look like it crawled out from under a bridge.
It's really hard to find porn with good looking guys that don't look old and creep and/or pot bellied or meth-head skinny.

Have you tried anything by Nica Noelle? She is an amazing director and makes porn for couples and women! Check out her studio, Sweet Sinner.
She doesn't shoot it like typical porn in that each scene is shot from start to finish so yes there is lots of kissing, REAL orgasms for the women and tons of foreplay and real positions that couples do. Also she shoots Manuel Ferrara in tons of her films and I don't know any woman that thinks he's hard on the eyes.
Here are some links to her Sweet Sinner films--

Enjoy! :)

New Sensations's Romance series and Digital Playground's light features. Not all the light features are soft though. I wouldn't know which are because I don't watch them.

I agree with DustyMarie, Sweet Sinner seems like the go-to for "made for women" type porn. If she's into lesbian porn; she'd probably also like Girlfriends Films, Sweetheart Video, or Triangle Films.

I concur on Sweet Sinner, but it should perhaps be clarified that Noelle's flicks are not typically "soft." I'm trying not to generalize here, but "for women" is often interpreted as "soft" etc. so I think it's important to note we're not talking Femme or even Wicked/Vivid/DP here. Things get pretty down and dirty. There's little to no mediation in the form of editing, music, etc., which results in a raw and intimate tone.

^ Yeah, that deserves to be mentioned. I wouldn't necessarily assume that "made for women" porn is soft by design. There is definitely a different approach to it though. Since such a huge portion of porn is made by men for men, it tends to cater to us guys by delivering it from a perspective only men can completely relate to (POV for example, or all blowjobs and no pussy eating, etc.)
I know there is some "women's" porn that is surprisingly raunchy and hardcore, it just takes a different perspective.

Love Nica Noelle's work, and don't think of it as "made for women". It is simply realistic hardcore and so appeals to both sexes, my johnson included.
Tried a Playgirl film once that was for women. Lots of panning of male abdomens. Never again, but maybe some women would like that stuff.
Also tried a New Sensations film, but can't imagine that appealing to anyone. Maybe young men who have never seen a naked women before, so they like tantalising panning shots in slow-mo. Playboy isn't aimed at women, so can't imagine women liking New Sensations either.
But who knows what women want. I also love Girlfriends Films lesbian porn, again because it is realistic hardcore where the women are genuinely aroused. I'm curious whether straight women like Girlfriends Films also.
A final shout out to Mason (Elegant Angel), Nate Liquour (Zero Tolerance), and Erik Everhard (Jules Jordan), who to me are advancing porn into something both women and men can enjoy.

Fairly often I get emails asking for recommendations for movies to watch with the girlfriend or wife. Although I mention plenty of the Wicked, DP, and others many have brought up, I also mention Evil Angel stuff like the old Buttman movies and I think Everhard's movies and Manuel Ferrara's movies fit for the same reason. While so many think women don't like porn due to the sex, I think it's more due to poor chemistry and a fake feeling. If there's chemistry and a fun feeling I think women are not only more drawn in, but also more tolerant of some sex acts they'd be uncomfortable with otherwise.

I'm not sure which New Sensations films you've been watching, but the ones I've seen are either okay gonzo or okay-to-quite-good features. Neither fits your description.
+1 on Mason (aka. Sam No) and I would also add William H and some of Belladonna.

My wife was pretty hesitant about porn when we first got together. Like the OP, we talked quite a bit about what she would like to see. In the end, it took some time. Some things she thought she would like, she didn't, and vice versa. We just kept talking about it, and trying new videos. We were comfortable turning movies off, or laughing at them. I give her a mountain of credit for continuing to try.
In the end, she wanted attractive people, who were shot and lit well, and who looked like they were enjoying themselves. We also read the book 'The Smart Girls Guide to Porn' by Violet Blue, that helped some.

It does make sense, but I think it's a tough (general) find. Most directors can't seem to find that line between soft and hardcore. Can't really think of many you have or did.
What didn't you like about the Candida film? She was actually the first name I thought of, and that film you mentioned by her was only a few years old. Would have said Nicholas Steele since I always thought his films were generally female friendly, but Astro thinks differently.
Maybe try Andrew Blake, although I never really thought he ever really showed much of anything usually. Still some swear by him.
Maybe try Nica Noelle as others have suggested. while there does tend to be a lot of foreplay in her films, be warned that her sex scenes are quite long (around 30 minutes) and quite intense. Mostly vanilla and not that graphic, but performers do really go at it.
Paul Thomas earlier films almost seemed softcore to me at times.
There is a newer female director named Celeste who shoots softer with lots of music and (generallly) no live audio. Some women seem to like her style.

Steele can be good, but he can also have the feeling like he's afraid of where the sex might go. Maybe he's changed recently, but he's one of those directors where I frequently had the feeling that the performers were told how far they could go, do this, don't do that, etc. whether it worked for them or not. Candida was like that, only worse, which is too bad because she did have some nice ideas to some of her movies (FWIW, the Eyes of Desire movies stick out in my mind as being some of her best).
The analogy that came to mind replying to this is standup comedy. Although most standup comedians go out there with a set they're ready to do, the crowd makes it a living thing and who knows where the act might go depending on the crowd. The comedian may be out there to do a PG-13 set, but due to the crowd and how things go he may find himself doing a fully adult set filled with F-bombs. Odds are, that's going to be a much funnier set than if he's struggling to keep things family friendly. Or you can go with Eddie Murphy and think Beverly Hills Cop versus Beverly Hills Cop 3. Nick normally reminds me of Beverly Hills Cop 3. Candida was normally somewhere just above Norbit...
Blake has some great things, especially his early stuff. A lot of his recent movies are very female heavy and can get a bit rough. As much as I like Blake's stuff, I don't normally recommend his stuff for people trying to find that right movie to watch with a woman because he's all about worshiping the woman's body and he's very heavy towards solo girl and lesbian action.
I've only seen one of Nica's all girl movies so far, but I can see her Sweet Sinners line having great possibilities for couples. Nica did a great job building chemistry and letting the sex feel natural.
I really like a lot of what Celeste has done, but I'm iffy on it for new porn females. It's often heavily artistic, frequently had a lot of all girl action, and a lot of times had some very dark themes. Robby D. shot all her movies so they have a very similar style to Robby's movies, and I think Robby has a lot more couples friendly movies. The Smiths, Couch Confessions, and most any of the "big blockbusters" would probably be safe choices.

^ Oh, I liked The Smiths! Good choice...and of course, featuring a man who definitely does not look like he just crawled out from under a bridge. :)
I would also like to add that I thought Candida Royalle's AfroDite Superstar to be excellent.

I did a review of a playgirl movie. you might want to check it out. As a male porn lover, I can't speak for what the fairer sex wants, but if it's from playgirl, and given the cover art, this movie was aimed at women.

If you liked The Smiths check out some of Robby's other recent movies. Many of them have a similar style with some nice tease, a light story, and well shot sex with great chemistry.
Have you watched many of Candida's other movies? Looking back at my review (which it appears I had a lot of fun writing, drank heavily during writing, or quite possibly both), Afrodite Superstar seemed like it had a lot going for it but was held back by Candida's style. I'm curious if you have similar feelings to her other movies.

Gore Gore thank you SO MUCH for making that distinction for me - it's an important one! Yes I do make porn that appeals to women as well as men, but my own tastes are NOT "pretty, soft sex," i.e, hair blowing in some unexplained breeze, bodies posing in various "pretty" ways and never breaking a sweat, sweet little moans and coos. To me that's boring and you can't jerk off to it, whether you're female or male. (Not effectively, anyway.)
At Sweet Sinner we like the sex to be raunchy, raw, sweaty, intense, real. We love when we lose the hardcore shot for a few minutes because the couple is so completely physically engaged from head to toe that they don't care what the camera can see. Our scenes range from intense/romantic/sensual to yes, extreme and raw and as pretty much as "hard" as anything you've seen anywhere else. But it's extreme PASSION, not "novelty sex" where we do something extreme for the sake of doing something "extreme." It's all about the chemistry between the performers and the scene you see is what they were feeling together.
FYI, Manuel Ferrara has two upcoming Sweet Sinner/Sweet Sinema scenes (one with London Keyes and the other with Annie Cruz), and if those are characterized by anyone as "soft" in any way, I'll eat my hat. :-)

Manuel's scene with London tend to be quite intense (his latest with her in his own Slutty and Sluttier is terrific), looking forward to that. And him and Annie Cruz is a great match!

I feel that we should acknowledge that there's a difference between "couples" porn and porn that women would appreciate. I think that videos that suit a couple should be made with the intent of arousing them, but not totally sealing the deal. Features have always been the default vehicle for that, and tended to be shorter, less graphic, and should, by definition, be more story heavy, with compelling reasons to engage in sex in the first place. I think that has been changing over the years to a hybrid with less narrative and longer, gonzo style scenes, that to me don't serve anybody properly. What we watch alone is a totally different story. If you're trying to find out what any particular woman is interested in watching, it would be better to offer a variety and let her determine for herself. You might be shocked at what the results are. My last porn friendly girlfriend favored Rocco, Stefano, and Slayer. Surprisingly, she wasn't head over heels in love with Manuel. She also hated lesbian porn and long teases that had the camera worshipping the female form. Also, she was inclined to watch videos all the way through in one sitting, so too much similarity in the tone of scenes or location got her quickly bored. And not unlike many men, she would develop an empathic relationship with the woman on the screen, responding more positively to what she perceived was real pleasure, fun, or excitement. She was actually a pretty good gauge for quality porn. We broke up before I had the chance to introduce her to Mason's world, or Nica Noelle's, for that matter. It would have been interesting to hear her reactions.

We do use certain performers multiple times. For some people it's not enough diversity in terms of casting, sure. For others it gives them a chance to get emotionally invested in the performers, which adds to their experience. Also, not everyone can do what we require, so we tend to stick with those who can. There's plenty of porn out there that feature different girls in every scene and every movie, so you've got lots of other choices, fortunately!

Gee, is this a problem? If it's a performer I like, she could be on screen every second of the movie -- and the movie's sequel, etc. There are enough performers who don't overly appeal to me that I cherish the ones who do and will watch them endlessly!

You have got it wrong. I and possibly many other viewers do not want to see the same actors again and again in all the movies (whether porn or mainstream) because then the characters dont look realistic (your movies are plot based) and the viewer is reminded its the same actor/actress seen umpteen times. It has nothing to do with lack of romantic feeling or any desire to want sexual variety with different girls.

I noticed 1 point that is missing is women do enjoy good hard sex scenes but it the way it builds itself up to it. If you take it a momnet at a time like sipping a good wine. Yet I have met some (god bless them) that make most men I know look tame. This wonderful customer of mine comes in with her hubby and walks up to me and asks if I have any strap ons because and I quote, "I wanna ass bang him until he can't see anymore." lol Have another female customer that likes to go to a booth in my arcade and asks me to watch her and describe to her girlfriend what she is doing. >sigh< I think ladies sometimes feel more comfortable to slower moving sex because of the taboo that says they are sluts for wating to explore their sex. Typically after a lady has done the story line thing they like men tend to move on to what really interest them. sometimes it is nice to see a porn with a story line, like Fashionistas 1 and 2. Variety is the spice of life but dont forget we are creatures of habit.

I would say that mostly applies to me Nica. The one-and-done sex scene craze today frustrates me at times. Certain women deserve more than one look IMO, plus I simply like the approach.

If a performer is good I don't mind watching them in many scenes, it's only since gonzo became the norm that performers pumped scenes out at a crazy rate anyway.

I'll definitely have to check out Celeste's!
I am still partial to New Sensations Romance Series which I do know has a reputation for being softer but in their latest films have stepped up their game and the kink and the edge a bit. There is a fine line that I think directors of porn (especially porn geared towards women) are afraid to cross for fear of offending the less seasoned porn watchers. I think New Sensations actually successfully teeters that line by offering a variety of different sexual encounters in their Romance Films (there is typically a couple that is "making love" and then there are the couples that are just going at it and screwing <--my favorite):)
I've only ever seen one of Nica's films but I am not sure I understand all the accolades she receives. I paid $20 online to watch one of her films (Sinderella) and there was a shot of a crew member holding a boom in the middle of a sex scene!!!!! Seriously???? Given that Sweet Sinner tauts themselves as "high quality" I can't ever trust anything else they produce if a dude/chick holding a boom is not something they would have edited out in POST. To me, those kind of mistakes are not forgivable, even in porn.
Any specific film recommendations by female directors that are worth watching and actual high quality?

Nica Noelle just got some major love from celebrity Sexologist Dr. Ava Cadell on the Dr. Drew show on CNN. She suggests Nica’s Movies to Improve Relationships & Enhance Sex--so if you need another reason to try out Nica's Sweetheart Video and Sweet Sinner films just take it from a professional Sexologist. ;)
Woohoo congrats to Nica for making great female-minded porn!

Jackie St James, editing mistakes can happen. We work hard to make sure those kinds of things don't slip by, but sometimes the editor makes a mistake and something is left in. This is almost bound to happen from time to time, because the camera people are running around the room to shoot the couple as they engage in real sex - not posing the couple, putting the cameras in a set position, and then telling them what position to fuck in, and to "open up for the camera."
What you see in most porn movies is not only completely orchestrated and posed, but the performers never achieve orgasm, fake everything, and more often than you think the guy has to jerk himself off almost to completion and then come back and "pop" on camera to make it look like it happened from sex. There's a reason most performers prefer doing scenes our way - they get to really have sex. If that kind of authenticity and real connection isn't what you consider "high quality" then by all means watch something else. I'd rather have the occasional editing mistake slip through than have a technically flawless video of two people pretending to be turned on.

I don't want to jump down anybody's throat too hard, but imo, slipshod editing in what is supposed to be a quality, polished product, is never excusable. It's something that should be caught somewhere along the line. As far as the camerawork is concerned, I don't think it's as instinctive as it needs to be. Whoever is following the action has to have more than a bit of perv in them, and follow a shot because that's what they're interested in seeing, and hopefully feeling the direction that things are going in. The biggest problem is getting performers out of their pornification mode. Tell them you want real lovemaking and they go into Vivid, Wicked, DP, A&E mode. It's amazing how many scenes follow the same script, even without a script. Sometimes you get lucky and real chemistry is discovered, and with all due respect for people who need to see a vast variety of performers, there aren't all that many that let themselves go in their scenes. That's why Manuel works so well in Nica's productions, and his own Raw series as well. She appears to have discovered Toni Ribas, who is also capable of spontaneity, and it doesn't hurt that he's attractive. Not all the women are willing to get that deep in their scenes, so if you've found some, it pays to stick with them. I don't grow tired of women I'm attracted to, just the assembly line productions they often work in.

Sad but true.
I enjoy most gonzo porn. The problem is that no matter how good it is, in the back of my mind I know I'm watching a performance. Nica's movies have much more realistic style of sex in them without the crazy, uncomfortable sex positions. It's such a refreshing change of pace to see one man & one woman having passionate one-on-one vaginal intercourse on a bed, in a bedroom, like real people.
Another issue I have is if a company doesn't make movies with the extreme sex acts like DP or blowbang/gangbangs, they're designated as "soft" or "couples friendly" porn. Way too many people mistakenly believe that "hard" sex automatically equals good sex. I've watched many orgies, anal and DP scenes that have ZERO passion or heat to them. I'll take hot B/G vaginal-only sex over a scene of some girl who's faking her way through an anal scene just to collect a paycheck.
What makes a great scene is not how HARD the sex is, it's how GOOD the sex is.
I agree wholeheartedly. I'm the same way in that I normally stick to movies with my favorite performers. It takes me a long time to warmup to a new girl but once I do I'm usually a fan for life. I realize some guys need a constant flow of fresh girls but not everyone does.
One of the things i like best about the Sweet Sinner line is they use a rotating roster of about a dozen or so great performers. Girls like Lisa Ann, Michelle Lay, Darla Crane, Julia Ann, Melissa Monet and others. These ladies are some of the best at what they do, that's why they're still around after all these years. They're all beautiful, passionate and consistent performers. I never have to worry if I'm getting my money's worth when I see their names on the boxcover. The give 110% in each and every scene they do.

Yes, check out the stuff produced by X-Art. The scenes tend to be quite short, but they are very "couple-ly" and erotic. Lots of kissing and licking, and the hardcore part comes at the end. Oh, and the actors in the scenes tend to be beyond gorgeous. Definitely porn for the uninitiated.
I was using a girlfriend's laptop one day and I came across her collection. It was almost exclusively stuff produced by Marc Dorcel, which is a French label. Lots of movies from "The Russian Institute" series. High production values, very pretty girls, and the scenes are quite passionate. The scenes can get a little more extreme sometimes though, DPs are quite common. I never knew she was into porn, but it turned out she was a bit of a connoisseur. So maybe a label you want to consider after introducing her to something a little softer.
On another note, there was one trend I saw in her films. She tended to like movies with the European-type brunette with big blue eyes. Also, she seemed to like Stoya, as she had a few of her films from Digital Playground. So, I guess it's important finding films with stars she's attracted to.

My wife showed absolutely zero interest in porn until she was in her early to mid thirties. She always knew I liked it, she even bought me a few of the "bigger name" titles on occasion as gifts. When she went with me once to an adult expo show in Vegas (this was back in the CES days), her spark lit up. We sat down and went through some of my porn collection at the time and she gave me several hints of things she liked/disliked. She was into good looking men who didn't look like prison inmates. She was into attractive natural women (limited bolt ons), particularly brunette's and redheads. And she was into the woman being submissive in the role. Over the years, this led into her revealing several BDSM fantasies, most of which we now play out on a regular basis. This also led to some of the darker porn stuff, but it still has to meet the above objectives. She is particularly aroused by a clothed male/naked female scenario that involves D/s role play.
My point in saying this is that it took some time for her to reveal and develop an interest in porn. And although there are recurring themes, she's diverse. You can't say "Go Wicked" and find a perfect match. Invest time in conversation with your wife. And by time I mean more than you ever have before. The payoff is worth it, beyond just figuring out what porn she likes/dislikes (or even if she likes porn at all). If I knew then what I know now, I would have spent 75% more time communicating with my wife in the first 15 years of marriage. Ask her what she likes in an intimate setting and not talking about porn specifically. You will greatly benefit from that journey if done with sincerity and respect for her desires, not your own.

Picman, you're right that there's no excuse for poor editing or mistakes of that nature. We review the screeners 3 times before they're burned into final, and all corrections are supposed to be made by then. My only explanation is that this was caught and noted and the editor somehow burned the final without that change being made. There's just no other explanation. And it really never happens. I put out at least 48 movies a year and this is the first time anyone has ever reported something like this. I don't think that's a bad record. But mistakes do happen from time to time, even in mainstream movies with multi-million dollar budgets you can catch editing mistakes. You see boom mics in the shot in some very high budget mainstream movies. I've seen it myself. It can happen. What can I tell you.
As for which male performers are best suited to our style of shooting, I have a list. Of course Manuel is at the top of that list. Joey Brass is amazing. Evan Stone is always perfect. I've gotten some surprisingly great, understated performances from none other than Nick Manning. It has to do with the mindset of the performer and what they're willing to try and how they approach their work. Most male performers love the opportunity to really get into the sex instead of having to fake it. Just ask them.
