There have been lots of posts already about the nature of the downturn that the industry is experiencing. What are your solutions? What would you do to remedy the situation if you were running a company? I'm wondering if there are any good ideas out there.

If I ran a porn studio company my rules
Girls
Mostly Black Latin White
110 to 175 lbs
No really big noticeable tats
Girls need to be willing to suck and swallow anal is not a must but is a plus
Girls under 35
Guy
No black guys
No ugly slobs or creepy guys
No guys that are older than 45 or look over 50 you could have a guy that is like 48 or 49 and he looks younger now that is fine
Guy need to stay hard through the whole scene
Guy need to be a to give a good scene
Not a requirement but is a big plus guys that can cum 2 or 3 times in a scene
I would do more
Gangbangs with 5 to 7 guys
Gangbangs with 2 or 3 girls
Blowbangs with 5 to 7 guys
Girl swallowing 8+ loads
5+ guy creampies
Most Gangbangs would be a min of 45min
20 to 30 min blowjbos
Most scenes would be a min of 25min
I would shoot stuff at 1440p 60fps
My site site would have only 540p and 720p and some 1080p but not that much
Website will be good hardcore stuff and more closeups
Better camera angles
No talking from anybody behind the camera
More dirty talk from the girls in the scene
I would not do scenes like Passion-HD or Babes.com
Sites need to ditch all older non hd stuff and sell it off to a site so they can host it and have more room for new hd scenes

I guess we could breakdown the components of this proposal:
I was curious if there was an overall concept that addressed all 3 in a new or different way
- Content
- Delivery medium
- Price
I'm also kind of curious about what kind of market research you can do as porn company? How do you get people to talk about their porn consumption habits? There's a lot of instances where decision made by market research end up making a compromised product (which seems less desirable to porn fans.) I'm also assuming that most everyone on here is part of the target market (i.e. people willing to pay for porn.)

This is a complicated issue that I'm not sure has a true solution at the time. Content and Price fight each other. If you want to keep the price down for consumers then you have to make the content for cheaper. Delivery vehicle breaks down into two forms, physical and via the internet. Both flawed these days. In the past, one could go to a video store and get what they were in the mood for that day. If you buy or rent from the internet a physical form (ie. DVD or Blu-ray) you have to wait. You can buy or rent for viewing on the internet (ie streaming or download) but for many people that limits to watching on a computer. Personally from watching the evolution, I think the biggest hit is money in. Originally, you had to go to a theater (unless you owned a projector). No mass piracy (other than theaters stealing your work). So money in was from the theaters paying for the use of a print. Some companies owned their own theaters so the money in was through ticket sales plus other theaters paying for use of a print. Then came home video. Prices were very high, but not only did you have consumers directly buying but also every mom and pop video store stocking their adult section. Piracy was still very low. Now, with the internet and the death of video stores you have a limited sales area. Mostly online adult stores and streaming/download companies. Consumers are buying for rates that are far lower than they ever were in the past, with I suspect far lower sales numbers than ever before. Plus piracy is rampant throughout the internet. A simple Google search trying to find a title you are interested in brings up far more illegal venues than legal ones. How do you get back up sales? The Redbox model seems flawed for adult material (no way to check ID). Something that might help is an attempt to partner up with a company like Netflix. Try to re-emulate the video stores of the past where you can rent one type or another. The delay time still exists.
As for market research, I suspect that is an even more complicated animal. Visitors to a site like this are probably not the standard customers of adult films. Using a site like this, or visitors to a site like this, will only get the opinions of a certain market base and not the general consumer. Maybe setting up deals with places like Castle Megastore, which I suspect has a broader range of customers, to do customer research might give a more broader look into the average customer.
Maybe trying something to boost sales like DVD did in it's more fledgling days. Where a customer collects a certain amount of pull tags or upc symbols from physical product which would allow them a free release from a selected list. Yes it removes online only customers, but it seemed to help DVDs take off.

I will post something regarding the thread but I thought I'd add a few comments about your interesting post because I think you posted some good ideas but most are rather unrealistic.
1-I'm guessing you mostly want black and Latin women since these are the ones you named first. Good Luck with that one because we currently don't have many of these types of women in the industry so I don't know where you will get them. The no or few tattoos probably won't help in your search.
2-You mentioned willing to suck and swallow but not actually having sex except for the anal part but I assume you'd want these women to have sex with the guys. The sucking is standard in porn so not likely to be a problem but swallowing is getting to be a very rare thing so that will be a problem. Anal is also starting to be a problem but not one that can't be overcome and your age requirement is not even an issue since most active performers are under the age of 35.
3-You will have a much harder time with your choice of male performers because your requirements are a little vague and are so wide that very few active performers can meet most of them and if we include multiple cum shots in one scene then you can cross off the names of every current performer. I don't know who you consider to be an ugly slob and even less to be creepy but those tow descriptions could include a wide variety of performers if you happen to not like their type or their usual performance. Staying hard through an entire scene is also unrealistic but since there is something called editing then there is no need for this one to be included unless you are looking to shoot a scene in one take without editing. That doesn't happen and shouldn't.
4-We now get to where you have lost all of your money and are now destitute and asking for Chapter 11 protection. I know you are wondering how you got here so let me show you. I'm using Kink's posted salaries as reference since they are the only company to post them so a standard 1 girl, 3 guy gangbang will cost in performer salary a minimum of 2000$ but the amount is likely to be closer to 3000$ so by default a 2 girl, 5 guy gangbang will cost a minimum 3600$ but is likely to be closer to 6000$. If we do the math for a 3 girl, 7 guy gangbang then you are now talking about an amount that is at least 5500$ and likely closer to 7000$. Those are very high amounts on their own but since a website needs at least 10 scenes to warrant anyone joining it than you are talking a first investment of 20,000$ all the way to 70,000$ and that's' just in performer salary. Add another 20,000$ to 30,000$ for equipment, rental space, server time, camera operator, editor and what not. So your new company has already cost you anything from 40,000$ all the way to 100,000$ and you don't have a single customer yet. I don't know how much a credit card processors charges but let's say they require 20% of membership fee so if you charge 20$ for a 1 month membership(a standard price) and using a cost of 3600$ for a 2 girl, 5 guy gangbang then you would need at least 3500 paying member to break even but breaking even is not an option since you need to make a profit and worse need at least 15,0000$ in extra money to pay for the salaries of your next 4 shoots so that you can update with 1 new scene per week.
I fear that your solution is more your ideal scene and not a realistic option.

Now that I've bitched about somebody else's post then here I go.
1-I believe that there is currently no good solution for what is happening in the porn industry because too many players are out to fuck it up and those that aren't are losing out to the fuckers.
2-The best anyone can hope is to offer something that is somewhat different from the other sites and will cost as little as possible to produce en masse.
3-One possibility is a lesbian only site. As far as I know there aren't many of these in the US so no fear of an over saturation of the market. Having only women would cost more in salaries because women are by default more expensive than their male counterpart but if I use Kink's salary page as reference than the difference between a g/g scene and a b/g scene is only 100$ to 500$ so not exactly thousands of dollars. The first and in my opinion the most important advantage is that since so many women are now only willing to do g/g than that would give me access to much larger pool of performers than sites centred on b/g porn. I'm a feature porn film guy so gonzo only lesbian porn would not be the direction I'd want to go into so production cost would be higher but I think that after more than a decade on mostly gonzo porn. There is a fan base willing to pay for feature porn scenes. I'm not talking feature films so much as little scenario based scenes that can be enjoyed all on their own but I wouldn't mind doing small scenes that have a continuity storyline so that members would want to follow a certain plot line over multiple scenes. The best examples is the stuff Girlfriend Films does. Most scenes are stand alone but there is often a little story that connect some of these scenes.
I would want to have at least 3 scenes per week because anything less would mean years before the site would have a decent library and I don't think members would have the patience to wait a month or longer to see the end of a story.

There is a solution. But nobody is going to like it. Offer all new content only in streaming format. Zero downloads.

Going into semantics, it's not a solution if it alienates customers. That hardly solves the problem of losing customers and revenue.
I'd imagine streaming would only work if content if it was streamed through an aggregated service like Netflix or if there was an agreement between the companies to prevent them from offering downloads if it allowed them to undercut the other companies.
Frankly I don't see that either situation happening.

More downturns are ahead for all fields of entertainment, but I expect radio to have a revival in a few decades. For young entertainers who take the long view, microphone skills will be more valuable than gape lighting rigs.

There simply isn't much anyone can do. It's just to easy to get porn for free. The only thing a company can do is make porn easily available for the people left who still pay for porn.
I think the best answer is the EVIL ANGEL business model where they offer DVDs, stream, downloads, and their content is available through other sites like ABEN, HOTMOVIES, VIDEOBOX, etc...Anyone who wants any EA content can easily get it. Companies who have exclusive content that you can't get anywhere other than their site like BRAZZERS and DIGITAL PLAYGROUND, seem to be successful but I wonder if it's good or bad that consumers can only get their content by joining their site or buying their DVDs.

I think we have to consider that porn in its current form might, in fact, not survive.
With so much available illegally for free, there's a downward pressure on price that might drive some companies out of the market. With fewer competing companies, there's an upward pressure on price. There's probably a differential equation in there somewhere, but the point is that an equilibrium will be reached, sooner or later, and that's what the industry will look like.
That is, until someone/something changes the model by introducing something that doesn't fit the model, and the whole process starts again.
Throughout history, the person who changed the model becomes tremendously wealthy.

One thing people keep forgetting when they talk about performer wage costs is that they're much lower than a few years back. They're basically frozen to the levels from the 90s (at least in Europe), while inflation has not been steady. Raincoaters moan that girls these days don't seem to be of the beauty and raunchiness of 10 years ago, but why would a pretty girl like to have her arsehole abused by Rocco and his mates to make the equivalent of 30% less (and I'm not even counting foreign exchange movements, when it comes to European performers) than her early century peers? So the gonzo scene model of the last 15 years has reached the end of its useful life for me. The arms race to conceive of ever grosser, more ridiculous, sexual acts can't go on forever, and in any case it's now got proper competition from proper bondage porn (the absence of which in the past is in my opinion the real reason for the explosion of ridiculous anal-themed acts in compensation - you can't tie her up and whip her, but you can gape her and force her to do A2M). So you end up with a million interchangeable gonzo scenes, with ever falling margins and, because wages are now lower, ever lower quality performers (on average - there are always outliers).
So a customer is offered a very boring mass produced product with very little to distinguish it from the rest. So why wouldn't someone opt for piracy then? For me, getting porn through piracy is a bad deal, and I'm not talking morality here. Tubesites picture quality is shite, even if your browser extensions kill all the popups etc. Uploaders all have annoying captchas/limited download rates/limited simultaneous downloads to force you to buy "premium" service and risk giving your credit card number to a dodgy chap in Thailand or Russia, to download something that may have a world of viruses/trojans in it. It's cheaper and safer to buy a subscription to a massive network and get everything safely and as quickly as your download connection will allow. The problem is that the product itself is samey and uninspiring, for the reasons mentioned above. Not all of it - there's a lot of excellent stuff out there: e.g. all the posh porn sites like X-Art are good, a new niche, and genuine value for money. The DVD archive sites like videobox/videosz are likewise superb value. But there's so much sameiness that in the end you don't really buy too many repeat subscriptions. At least I don't.
For me the only sustainable model for porn that is fairly impervious to piracy and can sustain the customer's attention to ensure repeat business is that which leverages the "live" factor. Cams are pathetic in quality, and pathetic ripoffs as a rule, but they point one way to go. Then there is the taboo subject of porn being used as advertising for escorting services, i.e. a form of a portfolio for services offered. This is also kind of happening now, but again prices are too high (in the US - in Europe they are lower), and of course there is the issue of legality of prostitution in the various countries. Then there are the custom videos made for the individual specification of customers, or groups of customers. That's also kind of happening now in some single model sites, but there you have the issue of throughput: how many individual scenes can a model humanly film to get enough volume of sales?
But the "live", genuinely interactive, vibe is the only one I can genuinely foresee attracting and sustaining the interest of regular fans. Casual viewers wishing for a quick wank while the wife is away/on a business trip can always opt for something quick off a tubesite, but somehow I don't think that these are sales that the "industry" already has or could be easily increased. It's the regular porn user, usually but not always the single/divorced male, that should be targeted and the live vibe is the best one I can personally think of.

Here's what I think might work: A subscription based site with the output of Naughty America, Brazzers, Bangbros but it also includes some more hardcore stuff and lots of input from fans/production updates/voting etc. Here's an example of what I mean:
Content Updates:
Monthly hardcore updates:
1 Orgy (similar to the 3rd degree/ZTOD series Big Butt Oil Orgy, Bit Tits Oil Orgy, Gym Rats Orgy etc.)
1 Gangbang a month (similar to Devil's Gangbang with Lisa Ann/Chanel Preston, or No Limits series)
2 Blowbangs a month (similar to Mike John movies or DF's Interracial Blowbang)
Weekly Fetish updates:
Booty
Big Tits
Group
Milf
Asians
BJ / HJ
Basically it's attempting to join the production values and update regularity of Brazzers/NA with more variety of scenes that are a bit harder (and much harder to come by from the online studios.)
Delivery: Online Subscription (admittedly, this would cost more with the inclusion of the more hardcore scenes)
Price: $30 a month ($360 a year), $22 a month for 3 mo. (264), or $15 a month for a year ($180)
Video: The usual 1080 - 720 - 480, but original material would be shot in 60fps so there would also be an option for 1080/60, 720/60, 480/60

* Kind of bridging the gap between Brazzers and JulesJordan. Would you pay extra to get some more of the hardcore scenes (provided they are with the models you want to see and are professionally produced)?

You may have a point about JAV, although most of it is definitely fetish in my book. German porn however has long stopped being as gross as it used to be. If anything, it's dominated by mainstream labels these days.

I think a redbox type service is genius. As for checking IDs have the kiosks located where children aren't allowed i.e., bars, liquor stores, and strip joints. Have you heard the type of vending machines they have in Japan? That could be a possibility as well..

Basically, porn needs to take advantage of the volume of customers it has. The majority of people in the US watch porn; this is a huge audience. However, only a fraction of those people actually pay for porn. Pay-sites do offer a better experience, but most consumers do not find that this experience is worth $30+ monthly.
As much as we would like to think that the porn industry is this massive, competent, and calculated machine, it's really more like a metapopulation of small businesses. Instead of a handful of very large companies controlling the industry, it's controlled by a wide range of small companies. There are a lot of pros to this, but it's starting to leave the porn industry in the dust. Big companies have entire departments devoted to marketing R&D; asking questions like "how much will people pay for this?" "who will pay for this?" Most porn companies don't have departments such as this, so they're left guessing as to what's going to make them more money. From the perspective of a small company that doesn't have much access to market research, charging high prices seems like a good idea.
But only the "core" audience is going to pay the prices they're asking; only people who REALLY like porn, or people who feel paying is their only option, are gonna drop $30+ monthly. The bulk of american porn viewers aren't going to pay anywhere near that much, given that everything is available via streaming and piracy.
But, there is difficulty in streaming. Like a specific actress/actor? Good luck wading through 50 duplicate videos browsing tube sites, the bulk of which don't even have the entire scene. Most videos are incomplete and in poor quality. There is also difficulty in piracy. Torrenting runs the risk of downloading malware, not all videos get seeded enough, and most torrents die within about 4-5 years. Also, most people have no clue how torrenting works, or how to torrent something. The demand exists for an easier, better experience; it just so happens that the price point is very low.
There needs to be a streaming site which licenses its content in a way similar to netflix. There are a few of these out there, but they need to be under $5 a month. This website would need to have a VERY large selection of videos (we're talking pornhub-size). And, most importantly, this website would need to promote itself endlessly and shamelessly. Billboards, newspapers, television, porn streaming websites, facebook, etc. Make the name of the site ubiquitous with porn. Make it a household name. Make it the website that every high-school kid will want a subscription to. Provide the greatest possible experience; invest a lot of money into research to find out what people like. Stop doing this 39.95/mo bullshit, it's not 2002 anymore.

I would join your ideal website.
But...
The 1440p content needs to be shot and played back in 60fps. The key words are played back. It's fine to shoot in 60fps but the file should also be in 60fps. I think sometimes scenes are shot in 60fps and played back at 30fps. Also I don't know many software players that playback in 60fps. Maybe VLC does I'm not sure.
1440p at 60fps is a great starting point. But I would go with 2160p at 60fps Progressive. The actual file would be 2160 (60p).
File size would be too big at the moment. But when HEVC h.265 becomes common place it should be sweet.

For those interested in 60fps playback on their PC or MAC.
I googled exactly the following terms;
*******************
playback 60fps
*******************
There's quite a few solutions available. I don't know a lot about technical details. But I think the big problem is the vast majority of video files are played back on the Internet at 30fps. For example YouTube. Also I think it's a software player issue. Also I think that 1440p at 60fps would be quite CPU and or GPU intensive. I think you'd need at least a semi decent rig to play that back.

It will be interesting to see how the HardX subscription site does. Content looks good, the only thing that would limit it (at the moment anyway) would be the volume of scenes available and the update schedule. I think they are doing the 30/60/150 pricing.
* I wonder if it wouldn't make sense for all the studios to get together and put their movie/scene trailers in one centralized site that would make it easy to sign up for subscriptions or buy individual scenes like an iTunes or something. I wonder what the state of the industry would have to get like for that amount of cooperation between studios...
* Also, do you think there would be repeat business at a subscription site if they were making more scenes that were fan requested (assuming you could get people to agree for a moment)? As a unique feature of the site for instance, if you were paying $15 a month and some set amount ($5 maybe) was going towards the hardcore scenes (Gbang/Bbang/Orgy)? Do you think that would sell enough subscriptions to make money or win over people who are signed up on other online sites that don't do that type of content (ZZ, NA, BB)?

I know people want a site that offered a masive selection and also included new releases from the major studios but that's simply not going to happen at this point. A site would need to have a huge amount of subscribers to make a site profitable enough to offer prices below at least 20 bucks a month on a month to month payment plan. Getting that many subscribers for any one site would be tough because the people who still pay for porn are spread out among various sites.
I don't think the porn biz will completely go away but to be honest...there's enough porn already made to sustain the market for years. Of course there are people who want to see new stuff but I wonder what percentage casual porn watchers don't care how new a scene/movie is as long as it looks modern? With so many people complaining about today's porn anyway is it that big a deal to watch old stuff from 5 to 10 years ago or earlier instead of newer stuff?

I read that clips4sale gets 500M visits/day and does almost $1B/yr in revenue.
Most of it looks like junk to me, but with that kind of money, it's surprising porn producers don't try something similar.

I remember for a brief period of time there was rumored controversy with Sony (not the first time, Betamax) possibly offering Porn over their PlayStation Store. Could you imagine through the right protocol how much revenue could be generated through the XBOX Live service by selling porn? Again the whole ID for age restrictions comes into play but we have no problem selling violent videogames over the same networks to young kids... This is coming from a supporter of videogames and an avid videogame player.
This current generation who grew up in the internet age doesn't understand the idea of buying porn. They are under the impression that it's meant to be free since they discovered it on their own by a few clicks of a mouse. They weren't around when VHS tapes were being rented out. They don't realize that porn is a business. It's a lack of education if you ask me.

Speaking of clips4sale, if someone ever figures out how to put together crowd-funding and custom videos in an adult-entertainment oriented and consumer-friendly way, they're going to make a whole ton of money. Custom videos are, arguably, the closest thing to an individualized experience that can be provided outside of cam shows, but the prices for them are just too expensive for the typical porn fan to be able to pay on their own (c4s scenes cost upwards of $20 a scene for anything that isn't fetish, and getting your own custom made scene starts in the hundreds of dollars). If 10-100 could combine to pay for a custom video, get input on the making of the video (through simple voting), and then get a copy of the video with the actors still able to take said video and put it up on their own personal websites, that's a situation where everyone wins.

This wouldn't surprise me at all. With higher and higher resolution cameras, amateur porn is really going to start giving professionally made porn a run for the money.

When you've reached the amount of content that Brazzers can offer, it's probably good. The bang for the buck at the big portal sites is a big drawing card, and at Brazzers even moreso since they've begun to incorporate the other Manwin properties for pretty modest fees ($50 per extra site for unlimited access when a sale is on, which seems to be constantly). In fact, I'd say that when you're producing fairly cookie-cutter porn like most of the big portals do, the available amount of content is the single biggest drawing card altogether. Offering cookie-cutter porn in small amounts isn't viable, and I dare say that's why only a few of the DVD companies have established successful online presences - most of the mid-range studios don't produce enough fresh stuff anymore to compensate for having only modest back catalogues.

@whatsatelephonebill:
The model that you are suggesting is kind of what I am proposing - a fan friendly way of professionally producing content requested by fans. I was thinking part of your subscription could pay for it but I guess there could be some kind of kickstarted aspect (if not with real money then maybe some kind of point system that accrues based on how many months you sign up for at a time or some other metric.)

For companies like Brazzers, I suspect economy of scale helps. If you're shooting enough scenes, I'm sure you can lower your per-scene cost significantly.

I don't think that could/would work on a large enough scale for your suggestion because there would just be too many cooks in the kitchen, if you catch my drift. If you're looking to produce content at the Brazzers/Naughty America level, you're looking at somewhere between high hundreds and low thousands of members, at least. Making a custom video that would appease a few dozen people with its choices would be much, much easier than making one that would appease a few hundred people.

And I have a nice bridge to sell you if you believe that's even remotely true.

When thinking of DVDs: quality, quality, quality. And quantity too: orgies, threesomes / BGG, get the BTS back and rolling over the place, updated trailers. Last but not least: good guys that make instead of break.

New scenes do not need to be produced on a really big scale just remaster 250 to 1000 dvds from 2002 to 2009 to good 720p quality if you downloaded them they you be 4gb to 5gb range

The internet is starting to wind down now. ISPs are squeezing Youtube and Netflix for video traffic money. Porntubes will feel or are feeling the same pressure. When squeeze exceeds ad money, that's the end of them. Then the industry may have a revival until it's mostly ended by untreatable bacterial infections.

As in any biz, the key is to diversify the portfolio. More ME girls, more Asian girls, more theme specific stuff.
Also, as stated, the pay per site model is dead. Its a decade out of date.
Netflix type stuff is the key.

Then why has a studio like Tara Tainton posted over 3000 clips since 2008?
Brazil Fetish over 6000 clips?
Sweet Southern Feet over 6500?
A hobby for them?

I would say that, this is a very bad analogy. One steak can only be consumed by a single person whereas you can theoretically sell the same video to everyone in the world.
If enough people are ready to pay, it would be hugely profitable even if the subscription fee is 0.99 $ per month for all of the sites distributing porn. I actually believe that if the subscription fee is less there would be more people to pay. I don't know this, but may be most sites are charging more than the equilibrium price that offers the most returns.

This is neither possible nor profitable.

Internet porn mostly started like this: mediocre small-size streaming (and some mediocre time-limited downloads).
It's why I never joined anything... it sucked.
Videotapes and DVDs were still superior, rentals were readily available (even at local stroke shops) and back-catalog titles frequently were available.
I've now stopped buy or renting porn on media.
Instead, I'm now sold on downloadable DRM-free porn, and have yearly memberships at six networks with dozens of included sites.
Should porn go back to "streaming only," I'm done with it, and the industry loses another paying customer. A good 40+ years and still going paying customer.
FWIW, I don't have the slightest interest in uploading porn -- that I have paid for and invested time in acquiring -- so that pirate sites and douchebags can steal it for free.
I just don't get this

I think the DRM free download genie is already out of the bottle. It would be interesting to see how well the streaming only sites (VIVID, DP, TGF) are doing against the download sites. It seems like part of the business plan to include a streaming only site as part of your overall strategy (Manwin - DP, Naughty America - Tonight's GF) I'm hoping this isn't the case since I don't sign up for streaming.
But who knows. Now that Comcast can shakedown websites we might be living in a totally different world with its own set of rules. Stay tuned.

It's clear that you didn't do any research before posting this. I checked Tara's clips4sale studio. It does contain over 3000 clips but most of them are just different version of the same videos. Most clips4sale studios offer multiple video options as well as break larger scenes into smaller clips. I'm not going to count how many different videos she has but lets say that she has 1000. That is a very impressive number but since many of these are about 10 minutes or less and they are for the most part all solo videos so they easily could be taken from her cam shows as opposed to only being produced for her studio. Even if she only shoots them for this studio. A lot of them don't include anything sexual.

So what?
Brazil is 100% original and 100% sexual.
Why does c4s sell $1B annually and struggling porn producers ignore it?

the advent of tube sites should tell you that people want to stream their porn. but tube sites are far from perfect. the video quality is degraded, tagging is abysmal, and searching is iffy. the porn industry needs it's own netflix, with high quality video, meticulous tagging and advanced searching.

Isn't mainstream film distribution much more centralized than the porn industry though? To back this up, check out the following link:
http://www.the-numbers.com/market/distributors
According to these numbers, only six mainstream film distributors (Warner Bros, Disney, Sony, Paramount, 20th Century Fox and Universal) accounted for 64.21% of the total mainstream box office take for the 20 year period 1995-2014. Cut deals with those six distributors and you can be the next Netflix. In porn, everyone and their brother Guido is a porn distributor. Add to that, the high turnover and failure rate among porn distributors, and I see a situation analogous to trying to herd cats where, at any given time, half the cats are actually undead zombie cats.
