What does one thing have to do with the other? Everyone was shocked when Mike Tyson claimed he was broke. They are like, "how could a guy make $250+ million and be broke?" Easy! He had a 7th grade education and got punched in the head for a living. People seem to forget that just because a person is using their "body" to earn a living; whether it be porn, sports, or some other form of show business, it doesn't necessarily mean they have intelliegence or disipline to manage large sums of money. Perfect example would be a recent story about a Miami Dolphins player, (think he was a rook, not sure,) he thought he was a hotshot and lost a $50 grand diamond in practice, uninsured and never to be found.

Dollars to doughnuts two years after his career is over, he'll be broke also.

Well, I already explained my point: In a multibillion-dollar industry, more than 1% of the actual performers should end up financially secure. That's not happening. (And yes, a lot of athletes go broke, too, but not 99%.)

Why would you expect them to? A quick spending of your $100 grand example. Estimate of 35% tax rate and assuming no agent fees to contend with.
Down to $65K
Apt Rent $15K
Car Lease $12K
Support of child and/or BF/SP/Mgr until he gets a music career going $15K
Boobs/Nails/Hair/Tan $5K
Food/Dining out/Partying $8K
Sunglasses/LV Purses $2K
There's $57K right there, and we don't have to itemize and dispute totals, but the overall jist is where the $ goes based on other "I made all this money doing porn, and now I'm broke" articles.

I guess we could do a list of which performers have earned a hundred thousand or more but don't have money for rent because they burned it away. It's a fact that most people that make alarge amount of money also spend a large amount of that money. It's even more so if you get paid cash. Having work in the bar business. My tips got burned quickly while my paycheck stayed in the bank. Add the fact that many performer sre quite young and most young people never look at 20yrs in the future. it's usually the here and now.

Sadly the problem with many of the performers in the adult film business is not that they lack capital, but instead just do not make good financial investment decisions. I am more surprised that some of the agents and/or agencies do not provide free counseling to many of the actors and actresses in order to ensure that these folks do not wind up broke and destitute.

I'm not suggesting porn actresses should retire with a bank account that looks like Michael Jordan's. My point is simply that the actual performers seem to get paid a far smaller % of the porn industry's revenue than performers receive in just about any other industry, whether it's sports or Hollywood or the music business.
Just as a round number, let's say porn is a $1 billion business. Does anyone think the performers are receiving even 10% of that amount? I certainly don't. But in other performer-centric businesses, the performers usually get 40 to 50% (or more).

^ Performers in sports, music, tv, movies and entertainers of all types in every genre/medium started out getting ripped off and exploited back in the early days. The difference with porn is no one of power or in power wants to deal with it to try and make things right because they don't want to seem pro-porn. So porn has never and probably never will have people in power forcing companies or owners or whoever to do the right thing by performers and the people who make porn and have public support making changes happen.

I have worked in music too, and I have never met a musician who got 40-50%. Back when CD's where new I remember that some band managed to get more than a dollar per CD and everybody was impressed that they got such a good deal.
In porn it is as in any business where young people get a more than average disposable income, whether it's sport, music, IT, banking, whatever, they spend it. Hell, if I would have had an income like that when I was 20 I would have spent it on booze and drugs too.

For one, porn isn't unionized and performers are independent contractors. Secondly, as with any company, the owners reap the rewards for taking the risks, while the employees just get paid for the work they do.

Jacco -- I know musicians get a lousy cut of CD (and now iTunes) sales, but they get a lot more than 10% of the revenue from concerts, etc. Pro athletes get close to 50% of league revenue, while Hollywood actors are somewhere between the music biz and pro sports.
The lack of a union is a valid point. I'm less sold on the second sentence above ("risk"). The owners of porn companies don't really risk all that much compared to what an average porn performer risks, either in terms of health (HIV/AIDS, other STDs, etc.) or reputation/future employment.

They're risking the chance that they could lose money if what they are shooting doesn't sell enough copies or site memberships for them to earn their money back, much less earn a profit. And if porn doesn't work out for them, they are also risking their future employment chances with "respectable" jobs, if future potential employers do deep enough background checks. And the porn I watch the most has performer/directors and performer/director/owners doing the hiring, so the directors also know what it is to put their health at risk.

Some of these posts are funny. It appears Lisa Ann is a hard working lady with smarts, I would point out however, that in this economy neither real estate or porn are very profitable.
Someone who may have made real estate investments is probably lucky if they only lost 50% of their investment over the last 3 or 4 years. How many ways can one spell foreclosure? So I wouldn't go counting Lisa Ann's money quite yet.
Porn is equally bad. I bet that the few performers that are stiff reasonably active are working for 1/2 the rate that they made even a few years ago in the "salad days" of porn. The depression in the porn industry has sent most of the girls to escorting along with striping.
Get a grip.

I understand that, but none of the above are GREATER risks than the performers' risk of contracting HIV/AIDS or having explicit pictures/videos available online ad infinitum.
