per-sex-act probability of HIV transmission: unprotected receptive anal intercourse 0.82% unprotected insertive anal intercourse 0.06%
You can do the math how many sex acts a male individual can do until he reaches the same threat level or risk of a female individual with one act.
Sure both can be infected.
But if you look on the anatomy or histology of anal sex (and also vaginal sex) (microlesions on vaginal/anal canal/rectal mucuous membrane vs. microlesions on penile skin), it is more likely that a female individual gets infected than a male, if the bug is transmitted by exchange of body fluids (mostly viral) - even if there is no internal ejaculation.
Then add that the population of porn performers differs from the general population: It is a (quite) well monitored group on STI. You can view it as a "clean and healthy" subpopulation which awaits an outbreak or rather is monitored until someone brings in an infective agens from the general population into the porn subpopulation.
So let's say some porn performer contracts an STI from outside the subpopulation, let's call him or her patient zero.
While in the general population a bug may spread from individual to individual for quite a long time, infecting both male and female before the "bug carriers" are singled out, in the subpopulation of porn performers the bug has a much shorter window of opportunity.
E.g. if patient zero is female than the chance to detect the bug before a (male) individual is infected is quite high, while the other way around it is much lower.
Hence in the population of monitored porn performers the female subgroup is at higher risk on many infections.
Remember in kindergarten when every group you were a part of was the best group, merely because you were currently it's member?
"Boys" versus "girls", "left section of the room" versus "right section of the room", "red nap pads" versus "blue nap pads"...
Man, manipulative adults sure could get us kids to do anything just by promoting the competition between those groups. And, clearly if you were a girl in the girl group, girls ruled and boys sucked. I am sure the same was true for those "nasty boys". :)
Porn stars have their own kindergarten wars: male porn star versus female porn star.
Which one is more important? Who has the hardest job? Who should be paid more? Who are the porn fans buying the videos to see?
I have heard AVN Performers of the Year get sucked into this decisive debate, while porn fans also seem to have their hard and fast opinions (mostly based on what gets them off, which determines what kind of porn they buy and for what reasons).
Ryan, Zatyr wants to tell you, that you have to fuck 14 HIV-positive girls condomless in the ass to reach the risk level of a girl who was fucked in the ass by one HIV-positive man.
In a free market, it is always the buyer that determines what something is worth. This is true if one is selling one's house, pencils on the street corner, or one's time and labor.
It is only worth what somebody else will give you for it.
And here, you've exactly summed it up very well. :)
Well, we could also look at this in terms of screen time. Show me a video where the male performer's entire body (and not just his dick) is in every frame, and I'll show you a video where he is getting equal pay with his co-stars.
Of course, in most of these videos, he is also the one getting it in the ass . . .
cool, i'm buying your family tony, do they have all of their shots?
the real question is, name me five pornstars who've gone on to a career in the outside world that's say, somewhere above or at the six-figures they made at 20. entropy's a bitch, everyone else gets more until a point. even if you have a good degree, the jobs that start in pornstar-range don't fuck around with the three years that's sitting on your resume like a black hole begging for explanation-you lie you're eventually going down for it if the interviews don't pick it apart enough. if you tell the truth, most of those jobs would be absolutely correct in discriminating against you, you weren't born a pornstar and you're potentially-damaging to their image or client-relationships.
if you're cut out to work in finance, law, medicine you've just imposed your own glass ceiling before you've even started. you would have a shot at making a few-hundred grand for 30-years instead of two or three. and it may not be such a high-salary by year three given the half-lives of the girls without the push a stormy daniels gets. gonzo girls have a pretty short time from when they film their final scene until their names fade away, which is going to mean your dancing or hooking rate goes down pretty soon after you lose the shooting-income. selena's a pr-machine and save for those here loyal to her, i can't say you hear her name with any regularity. while she may have taken a break and wankus, fm-guy that he is tried to ruin her name, it's an example of overall-buzz lasting around six months before there's 4-pages about a girl who just appeared on ladirect or speigler's site and you're not getting the "WOW! TEAGAN!"deal anymore.
maybe i'm wrong, but if you can do one of the 3/4 major ways to earn 250k without luck or freakish-talent, just go do them. porn actor/actress isn't a job that requires a lot of the talents this century will demand. you show up and perform an act your cat can do, you just have to have to be tough enough to take an hour or so of an extra-steve holmes-cat in your bum while vince beats you with a broom and eric makes weird noises. ultimately, you could send a mentally-handicapped person of above-average looks onto a set and they could pull it off and sexual-trauma's kinda par for the course anyhow and she'd forget it fast if you had gummi-worms handy.
Guys get paid less because, as a whole, they are willing to work for less. End of story.
If a producer couldn't find a guy to work for what they are offering, they would have to pay more. The fact is, that they are able to get guys to work for what they are offering. So, that's where the bar is set.

risk is relative guys. Just because statistics says that an act is more risky than another doesn't mean it is. All you need it one hiv viral particle to enter somewhere and that's it. They are both risky for men and women. It doesn't matter. If u had a gun with 1 bullet and 10 empty slots versus 1 bullet and 100 empty, would u still put that gun to ur head for any amount of money.... i can understand why people get paid so much but men should be too

i think bush should outlaw porn...haha just kidding
Because it is harder to shave balls than it is to shave pussy guys should definately get paid more than their female co stars. esp if they have a long dick because it must suck so much to roll it all up to the front to reach the balls.
This goes hand-in-hand with what Katja Kassin wrote earlier.
With the possible exception of a few "confuzed" men, porn is bought so guys can watch beautiful women being fucked.
Many young women might fantasize about doing porn but few act on that fantasy to the point of contacting an agent/production company to be booked on a scene. How many flake before that first scene? How many flake/retire after the first scene?
So we are paying Top Dollar for the women who shrug off/dismiss the social implications and are willing to bet their lives on the health risks.
Top dollar? IMHO all porn performers are underpaid...but most especially the female performers by virtue (an odd word to use in this context, lol!) of the STD risks.

maybe i was a bit harsh, but it wasn't about what's interesting to do, it was about numbers and in most cases i think you could do better in other professions provided you had the talent and resume for them. i do think the stigma would be a very big deal in some of those jobs, whether i think it's right or not. if you had to choose between two similarly-qualified applicants but one might offend a client or put your name in the papers in a sensationalistic-light it's a no-brainer if you want to do the best thing for the company.
do i think there are capable people in porn? yeah. many? not compared to a cross-section of other professions that start in the six-figure range.
Its not just potentially hiring a client. The women in the office acting like bitches makes it an unworkable atmosphere. The gossipping. The men harrassing her - walking lawsuit. Questions of character - right or not, porn stars are not seen as the most dependable people.

I'd hope they have to work more than that, if not at least harder than that. I make a fraction of that, and I put in at least 2000, if not 2500-3000 hours each year.
The money is meant to be saved in such a short term "job" (as opposed to a career), as VVG mentioned, these girls aren't just going to walk into law school & be respected by their peers. They were fuck pigs, cocksucker & cum dumpsters in their past life. I'm sure, however, there are some stars who party their earnings into oblivion and will rely on a sugar daddy who'll get semi-hourly blowjobs by the time they are 30 years old.
Not to mention their bodies will have suffered from the gangbangs, cock-gobbling, & sperm swallowing they were put through 100 times in their short 2-3 year careers. By the age of 30, they'll be lucky to be dancing at the local strip club in the town which they grew up b/c their bodies are so worn out.
Ryan, sure, the guys get the diseases because they can't control their wild dicks in foreign countries (no names will be mentioned, oops - Kami said it! lol). As Hills said, longevity in males = Peter North, Vince Voyeur, etc. Unless something goes wrong with the plumbing - you never run out of cum, and it's not like your cock is drooping like the Arby's Big Montana that some pussy turns into after years in the biz.
Katja...hun, far more than I wanted to match a visual with! Alas, it's an accomplishment, something to be proud of for sure!
Speaking completely off the record, if I could retain my current job & take "breaks" to fuck on film in California (esp. with some of the gorgeous ladies on this forum), I'd do for damn near free. But that said, it'd be a hobby (and one I likely couldn't keep my dick hard enough for!)
Cougar, well put. I think we are all trying to relay the same point one way or another. There are implications & risks to this job - regardless of future social standing or personal health & hygiene. However, "housewives" to me sounds more like sugar babes (as mentioned above). Financing tuition? Sure, local strippers do it...why can't pornstars? :) However, ANYWHERE you work with the public, your past could be saught out - make no mistake!
Its about demand, not how much you work. As for saving, if a person does not understand their limited shelf life and plan ahead, that is their problem. Escorting is in the future.
Sure there will be people with another perspective.
Which arises the question: What is the ratio of people with two doctorates and a job offer from McKinsey or people with another perspective vs. people with no high school diploma and no job offer, who choose porn as their career path?
I'd guess there will be a significant difference in this ratio to every other branch of the entertainment industry, which allows a career switch from privateer/amateur/hobby status to professional (some forms of music, some actors, some sports, e.g.).
That the social stigmata is not fair is another issue.
You can whine and go into hysteria about the human resources manager who is a porn addict in his private life, but is an ultra-conservative bastard when he chooses someone with no sex work in his CV for the job as secretary in the Vatican, Even if the former sex worker is more qualified otherwise. It won't help the former sex worker.
If you want to make quick and lot of bucks to finance your studies using sexual talents, go into some high society bordello, which keeps up high levels of discretion. But even there you will not be able to work without at least some high school diploma.
Or even better choose to be some lover of a post midlife crisis lawyer/physician/businessman. But even there your chances are higher if you have the ability to come across other than a weed smoking high school runaway.
These are far better uses for sexual talent if you want to avoid a self imposed glass ceiling.
Otherwise don't be surprised if you end up as a dish-washer after your porn career ends, if you haven't invested some brain cells what comes afterwards.
Or have a job already, where you know about the tolerance levels and don't go a full-time porn stint but restrict it as a weekend job, which of course isn't feasible to do until you are at least 20 or even some years older.
P.S.: I have problems to see the appeal of living like an exotic animal (the wife of a rich man, who shows his eccentric ways by "keeping" a former porn star as his pet^W wife).

FWIW, while the demand for people in my chosen vocation may not be as great as porn, I can say they've hired over 40 people in my terminal over the past year. Of course, that is quite considerable since we average about 140-160...so almost 25% increase in labor to replace prospective retirees in the coming years. So yeah...umm, demand is in my industry as well.

Higher emotional, or "moral" status? I fail to recognize who you're talking about here.
This thread has pushed the boundries of getting lost within, me thinks.
As for the "I married a pornstar" issue, what does marrying into money have to do with hypocricy? Marriage these days is far from true love many times over. Sure, there are couples who actually get married by the will of god (blah, blah...etc, etc.), and then are there those who marry, suck & fuck for the ability to use hubby's charge card. Don't kid yourself otherwise!
I don't know what country you're from if you believe this shit doesn't happen...but it's not pornstar specific. However, try getting yourself a high-class pornstar (or stripper) for a girlfriend if you only make $25k a year.
I read some time ago about this topic in case study in a sociology case book and it was around $35K. It was dated about 5,6 years ago.
So I don't think the salaries have gone up that much. It stated that the top 1% make more then $100K but in general; the average earnings was around $35K! A good percentage of the females like 40% were around the $20K range!
The male side made even less! They were averaging $25K and had to perform many more times then the female counterpart to even achieve that amount of earnings!
I think then gave the number of pornstar in the U.S. at around 7,700 - alot; and most are working on a part time basis. Full time workers were given numbers around 600-1,200 range!
It stated that it was very hard to get exact numbers because of the number quiting vs. getting started in the business varied widely in any given year!
Most pornstars are in the business less then 2 years! Around 20% have a drug habit! They have trouble substaining a relationship and tend to be lonely! Male pornstars have trouble in dating because it a big turn off to give ones occupation to a potential date as a pornstar. The males say they are actors or models as occupations. The females have no trouble getting dates but have trouble in keeping relationships going and few are offered marriage.
That was the main points I can remember from the study!
Strange...I see no problem discussing the salaries of other vocations...attorneys, mechanics, maids...being in HR, you tend to discuss things like that alot.
So why did I find it slightly distasteful to discuss porn salaries?
Like in any other part of entertainment industry. There aren't many Tom Cruise or Michael Jordan or Oprah Winfrey people out there. Most are "Wasserträger" for the star.
Man, If i were a rich man, I would never marry a porn star. You'd have to be crazy to do so. First of all, there's only one reason she's marrying u(money!)How long will that relationship last, especially when she's used to big cocks banging her ass. Also, who know how many dormant diseases she has. HIV can manifest years after contact. Not to mention dormant syphilis, chlymdia gonnorhea etc. Also, she been around the block so much that she probably won't even enjoy sex with you. She probably needs 6 dicks to satisfy her or at least 1 18" dong. Sugar daddies are so dumb!

Robertpalli, you seem to forget that sex for the camera and sex for sexual pleasure itself is something completely different. Female pornstars prefer big dicks in front of the camera due to visual aspects. It makes you see what happens and will more likely make a good scene. That doesn't mean that porn stars necessarily need a big cock in their private lives. Many prefer a normal sized cock. They may truly enjoy their scenes, but in another way than the sex in their real lives. Exposure makes sex feel different than intimacy.

i know this is off topic, but i just saw a tv ad for alias's jennifer gardener on TNT and wow, how awesome would it be if she was porn star. How many of you would buy a video if she took it up the ass...i know i woiuld
Well, you could have tried to make your post fit into this thread. "What do you think guys, how much money could Jennifer Garner charge Brandon Iron for letting him fuck her in the ass?"
OK FWIW I talked to a couple of my porn industry friends in the past few days. For a gonzo girl that isn't new, isn't famous, 750-850 a scene(with anal). For a certain large company with a lot of leverage I guess, $1250 for a DP, give or take. Couldn't tell you how famous the person is, but they'd have to be at a minimum pretty hot.
Like I said before, i'd take it with a grain of salt what the girls claim in public to make.
If you're a name like selina silver or whoever, I coudn't tell ya what they make. But for an average girl, those are the figures I was quoted.
My take, since this industry is all about the hot, new chick, I would think that the hotter the producer thinks you are, the more he's going to be willing to invest to get that anal scene. So, like Selena said, I'll take the flat-rate theory with mucho sal, por favor.
