I tried pornspective a couple of years ago, but I was never really satisfied with it. Recently I discovered StashApp (https://stashapp.cc/) and this has become my favorite program.
I have everything on an external hard drive which is plugged into a USB port on my computer. If I want to watch porn I just turn on the drive, wait for Windows to "see" it, then browse. To make that easier, I have a separate folder for each performer.
One of these days I'll get off my arse and copy everything to a backup hard drive.
Personally, I'm not keen on software that scans my files, both from a security and accuracy perspective. I use a HDD (with a backup), folders, and Bulk Rename Utility to label files consistently and descriptively. My collection is also relatively small and contains only exceptional scenes, including C4S, some OF, and self-shot content. I guess scanning software is good if all your porn is from bigger studios (assuming they use IAFD or similar).
does this require an internet connection though? is it a cloud system? basically in the off chance it is hacked or government goes nuclear and bans all porn is your information and collection potentially somewhere where others can access \ see any info of it? its a shame i have to ask this question but in these times 100 percent legal amendment protected adult content seems to be entering a dangerous territory.
I just have them sorted by websites - a directory per site, and each porn star has her own directory for her scenes. As my collection has expanded, I have dedicated external hard disks for certain sites.
Totally get where you're coming from - it can get out of hand fast! I've been using an Excel spreadsheet for a while, just to keep track of titles, categories, and where things are stored (folders, drives, DVDs, etc.). It's simple but works well for me.
Some people take it a step further and use media cataloging software like Plex, Emby, or Kodi - especially if they have a large digital collection. Those can help with thumbnails, tags, and browsing like a streaming service.
Whatever you go with, just make sure you back it up - losing your "hard work" would be tragic
I keep all of mine on an external hard drive in folders labeled by the site that I downloaded them off of Bang Bros, Naughty America, etc. For those sites I have a separate folder for each of the sites in the network. For example, for the Bang Bros folder I have one for Ass Parade, Big Mouthfuls etc. It's just easier for me to organize them that way.
I have 2 Giant Folders called "PERFORMERS" and "PRODUCERS"
Inside PERFORMERS I have subfolders, each with a name, for example "KARLIE MONTANA". Inside of that I will have miscellaneous stuff from her like Custom Video, etc that doesn't fit neatly in PRODUCERS. If it's GG or doesn't fit neatly inside anything. I will leave it in PERFORMERS or put it inside a subfolder called "_MULTIPLES", the underscore "_" is there to move it to the top above "A".
Inside PRODUCERS, I have subfolders, each with a name, for example "BANGBROS". Inside of that I will have subsubfolders for each model like "KARLIE MONTANA BANGBROS". Inside of that I will have all her content from that particular Producer. For GG or something else, put it in the main subfolder, your preferred Performer subsubfolder or create a special subsubfolder. The reason i have subsubfolders with both the Performer and Producer name inside is because before, I would search "X" Performer and get results of a bunch of folders "X", "X", "X"... all the same and wouldn;t know which was which. Now for different "Yn" producers, if I search the full database for a model "X", I get "X Y1", "X Y2", "X Y3" ... and it makes it easy to see which PRODUCERS/studios I have for a particular PERFORMER.
Wherever I need, I drop txt files if I need to write myself a note about whats missing , what's a highlight, or where to go for something similar or whatever.
For photosets, I make sure to store them in individual zip files (usually how they are downloaded anyways) and then unzip them when I pull them from storage and want to enjoy them. Keeping each image as a separate file will vastly slow down your systems.
I keep everything backed up to the cloud, so i can be on the move and pull something whenever i want.
Wow, and I thought my humble 2TB was too much. Do you just compulsively download everything that comes out? I can't imagine all those scenes are your favorites.
Absolutely not. I have a specific list of performers (and producers occasionally) I like and I stick to them for the most part. I'm just thorough in collecting everything for a particular star. Factor in HD and picture sets and it adds up fast. Sure i have favorites, but I don't keep anything I dislike or a performer I don't think is hot. I find most of what's out there with the fake cosmetic enhancements to be repulsive in fact.
Most of my files are sorted by pornstar/model. For videos and picture-sets, I’ll usually include some extra details that would interest me (e.g., lingerie, stockings, anal, squirting, oil, rippling, etc.) in the filename of a video or the directory name of a picture-set. I’ve also recently started to include the year it was produced as over time models change their looks, hair colour, get implants, etc.
Here’s an example (first in alphabetical order):
I like picture-sets as much as video. For picture-sets with multiple pornstars or models, they get their own top-level hierarchy, sub-divided into Lesbian and Group (hardcore B/G and orgy scenes):
I also like various type of boobs and lingerie so pictures of these both have their own directory structures:
I have a few complete DVD rips (but not many):
I also like to watch interviews and Behind The Scenes so they get their own separate directory:
This system has been working well enough for me over the past few years.
Apologies for the visual misalignment of the directory tree structure. It would be much more readable if they were displayed using a monospaced typeface.
