Some features may not be available and changes to your preferences will not be saved." I have done scans using three different anti-viruses and Crap Cleaner and I am still getting this. [Link]

Next time you open Chrome it will be regenerated, but you will have to reconfigure Chrome (unfortunately). or this Exit Google Chrome completely. Enter the keyboard shortcut Windows key+E to open Windows Explorer. In the Windows Explorer window that appears enter the following in the address bar: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data Locate the folder called "Default" in the directory window that opens and rename it as "Backup default." Try opening Google Chrome again. A new "Default" folder is automatically created as you start using the browser. [Link]

I don't seem to have a preferences file in my Chrome default folder. Other than some extensions I don't seem to have anything in my Chrome default folder. Select Bookmarks. Select Bookmark manager. Click the Organize menu in the manager. Select Export bookmarks. Chrome will export your bookmarks as a HTML file, which you can then import into another browser. and then try uninstalling chrome try deleting all chrome user files chrome program folder relating to chrome after you uninstall before you reinstall chrome again make sure you download the latest version then install again Edited by - jonnyharmony on 11/15/2013 4:17:34 AM [Link]

I got all the way down to the part where I was supposed to click on the security tab under Local State>>Properties>>Security Tab. Problem is there is no security tab in that window. [Link]

The only weird thing is that it went to a background theme I was using two or three years ago instead of the one I was using when all this started. Still have all my bookmarks just an old theme. Anyway I'll take the result. [Link]

Click to expand Went ahead and did this again because someone else had the same problem I have on that Chrome troubleshooting link Jacco posted and this was their answer. It seems to have worked but I won't be certain until I log off and back on to Chrome. Just looking at that help link I'm thinking this seems to be a result of Google's overly high opinion of their competence instead of my antique desktop. Google seems to be about as popular over there as bacon on Yom Kippur. [Link]

Given you're on XP, your battery could be on its last legs. If it's been more than three years, I'd go ahead and put a new one in (especially if you plan to continue using XP past April, 2014). It's only a couple of bucks, and will ultimately save you hours of hair-pulling when weird things (which this incident of yours reminded me of) start happening. [Link]

Easy to spot on your motherboard. (Of course, older OEM XP machines will likely have plenty of cables, including ribbon cables, blocking your view.) [Link]
