Regardless, if we do something to make it easier to administer the forum then it benefits the whole community. I'm sorry you don't see it that way.

Sometimes it takes me awhile to post my comments, either because I got overly wordy or I got distracted. Maybe I was replying to what was the last post in the thread when I started writing, but when I finish there will then be three new messages between my post and the post I was replying to. I don't always remember to include the other poster's name when I reply. I don't feel comfortable starting a sentence with a lowercase letter or capitalizing a poster's name that is all lowercase. Do I start a post, "Croy, yadda yadda" or "croy, yadda yadda?"

If I'm halfway through writing a reply when I realize that I want to quote someone, but the thread is already too long for a complete thread review, it is inconvenient to go back and copy the relevant text. Not that I can't do it now, and not that the quote button made it that much easier, but it did make it a little bit easier.

The worlds' record is 212 words per minute, set in 2005 by Barbara Blackburn. You just typed (does math in head) 23 words (one was a numeral) in 3 seconds. That's an astounding 460 words per minute, more than TWICE the world's record!!!! And Ms. Blackburn uses a DVORAK keyboard and was transcribing, whereas you were composing text, which means you are even faster than what you are claiming here!

Steph, you need to go for the record! You could sooooooo beat it!

First of all the "Add Reply" buttons are at the top/bottom of the page so its a minor inconvenience to scroll down and click them.

Next, if there is text you want to quote you'll have to scroll through all the posts and find it.

Before you could just hit the "quote" button and then edit everything accordingly to come up with a properly formatted quoted post that falls within the ettiquette rules.

Its really a pain now. Was the quoting abouse really that widespread?

Can you at least add a "reply to topic" icon on each post so we won't have to go to the bottom/top of the screen if we want respond.

No big deal, though. I guess I'll just be quoting people a lot less simply for the fact that I'm to lazy for all that cutting and pasting, and I also hate hitting the back button.

I would go the other way. Rather than having the reply icon at the bottom of each page, I would only have it at the bottom of the thread. That way, people would be more inclined to continue to read the thread before posting exactly what has already been written in the thread.

EDIT: I now see Bill's point about reading the thread before posting.

As it is now, I just open a new window when replying, so I can view the post I'm refering to simultaneously. But I'm just a mook who is lucky enough to post here once each week.

Another way to see the right codes is to click on the edit button of a post with the feature we want and see how it has been done in the written text showed by the editing form
Since we're not moderators we can't edit anything except our own posts so we can't do any damage.

Those who have powers here are obviously skilled enough and don't need any tutorial

Of course I understand the problem that the quote button gets klicked more often than appropriate, but let's look on the bright side, it would be even worse with a quote butt.
