In large part there seems to be two different opinions about Sasha Grey. Depending on what porn board you are on, those opinions range from bright new star in the business who can do no wrong to over-hyped pretentious blowhard. I'm not in either of these camps. She looks good to me but I have not seen enough of her movies to form an opinion either way. However I do not see how a porn girl cast in the role of high dollar prostitute is not a stereotype or at least typecasting. That is like saying that Steven Seagal's role in Under Siege is not a stereotype because he appears to be cooking in a couple of scenes.
I believe the stereotypical role for a pornstar in a Hollywood production is a bimbo. At any rate, if Sasha performed will enough that viewers were watching the character, as opposed to the performer, then she did her job, and everything else is just hot air.
Case closed. It has to be Sasha Knox--she is prominent in that reality show. The poster didn't even know which Sasha he was talking about and made a really ugly statement about the WRONG Sasha to the WRONG Sasha. Not that the statement would have been called for either way--I actually liked Sasha Knox's acting in that show, and I loved Sasha Grey's acting in "The Girlfriend Experience".

You haven't seen the movie. The fact that she is a high dollar prostitute is almost secondary to the story. If you were to imagine a porn girl being cast as a prostitute in a movie, you wouldn't expect this.
The weird puritanical bitter sniping is not unique to porn message boards. Go to any website with one of the approximately 1,237 Sasha Grey interviews, and if there's a comment section, there is sure to be all kind of negative shit-throwing/flame wars/etc. It'll never end.
Of course it won't end. Some people can't bear the thought of someone whose lifestyle they don't approve of being placed above them in the social order. Hence, the childishness of their attempts to belittle the target of their resentment.
You are right. So many deep down HERE hate porn stars, but what they hate to begin w is obviously themselves. They are not centered and cannot handle their desires or habits well. Deep seeded guilt or anger over their intimacy issues. Not the performers fault.

Obviously Soderbergh is using the frisson of casting a porn star to play a prostitute to not only create hype for the film but as an ironic layer to the film (both the character and the real life Sasha are paid to sleep with strangers). That doesn't mean he cast her just because she's willing to get naked, my understanding is that the actual nude scenes in this are few and far between.
Sasha has a real passion and energy for what she does more than nearly any other star I know. If she can show the same passion for acting she will do fine.
The words "someone down the line" or "would possibly" did not appear in your original post. Instead, you wrote, "[T]he only reason Sasha would even be granted an audition . . . ." But by all means, feel free to revise and qualify your original post so that it's not so idiotic.
You know what you're doing.If it was up to me, you'd have been banned about 200 posts back.

Since you asked, the someone down the line would be one of Soderbergh's casting agents that you felt the need to mention, the same ones you swore would never take a quick one from someone looking to be in a movie. And FYI, if you ever bothered to read a magazine instead of making 10000+ posts of drivel, you'd know that my comments are not idiotic, they are right on the money.

. But guess what? It's not up to you. Question for you, do you have a job or a life at all? A quick review of the number of posts you make indicate that you make about 467 posts a month or roughly 26 posts a day. What's with that?
The movie is surprisingly good (given the surplus of publicity, which always has me lowering expectations). There are too many pockets of undeveloped narrative – holes, if you will – that make the whole thing more of a sketch than anything else, but I was impressed by the results SS got from his non-pro cast. On reflection, the 77-minute runtime is just about how long a "professional liasion" actually lasts (if you factor in the time it takes to check into a hotel, take a shower, make sexy time, and do the post-show pleasantries), and it feels like the design is intended to leave the viewer not entirely sated. Sasha/"Sasha"/Chelsea/Christine ... it all gets as meta as a Charlie Kaufman movie, which is part of the genius aspect of the film (+ the amazing cinematography by "Peter Andrews"). The materialism + anxiety/collapse of late Capitalism scheme ... very 60s/70s Godard. But the more relevant film it reminds me of is "American Psycho." It's deeply, if casually, satirical.
I know. I don't envy the mods but every now and then, I'd love to pick that stick up for about an hour.You actually took the time to do the math? I enjoy ADT. That's all you need to know. If I had as little respect for the people who make porn as you apparently do, I'd find somewhere else to hang out.

I really want to see this movie, but don't know when (or if) it will be released in Australia. I may have to hunt down some arthouse in LA whilst I am there. Like most career progressions, the best way to become a mainstream success is when the chorus is obsessed with bringing you down. It is when there is no agenda against you that you struggle - you are not interesting enough to the media unless somneone hates you.
My favorite part is when Sasha is stranded with her fellow revolutionaries in the wilds of Bolivia after they've run out of supplies, and they are pinned down by the government troops. She's so defiant, bravely leading her men forward ... even though it's a kamikaze mission.
I can only wish Sasha well in all her endeavours - she has given 100% of herself in virtually all of her performances and in the process given me some happy moments in the past If she is able to make the transition good for her.
Or how about the one where she's a hitman who casually seduces Peter Fonda and then tries to kill him between flashbacks. Very sexy British accent. I liked her in that one. "A girl and a gun," and all that.
